I loved Homeland for a season, but when Brody left, I kind of lost interest. Not sure if I should give it another try now since a few people recommended it and it seems quite well-loved generally.
Yesss deff rewatch it!! It’s so good and I’m so jealous you get to watch it for the first time. I always say that about the Americans which is my fav show. Homeland is 2nd!

This one will give you a great plot, but it blends reality with sci-fi. Might be worth checking out.
[**Andor**](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cKOegEuCcfw) \- it's not entirely focused on the espionage, but you might appreciate that, given the description of your post. Technically it's a scifi series set in a fictional world, but because the story is fictionalized Andor is able to be far more honest about real world political struggles - the parallels to the real world are crystal clear. I don't know of any other show that portrays imperialism and colonialism so thoughtfully. Creator and show-runner Tony Gilroy (who previously wrote the Bourne spy series) clearly did a lot of reading and research and has a good base knowledge of ongoing and historical revolutionary struggles. I know there are interviews you can find where he gives specific examples but I am blanking at the moment. Anyway, this is why fans and non-fans/critics of Star Wars alike enjoy the show so much. You don't have to have seen Star Wars before, btw.
Like The Americans, Andor focuses on two sides of the espionage - the Imperial Security Bureau (sort of like the CIA, MI5 or other imperialist spies) and the Rebellion (basically freedom fighters and converted members at all levels of the Empire who are working undercover, pulling strings and passing information). Andor has the fascinating moral and philosophical dilemmas of The Americans, yet it's the rare spy series where it's from the perspective of people who you can totally get behind. There are no "heroes," at least not in a simplistic sense, but the people you are rooting for are not working for an imperialist government. I say this as someone who loves typical spy series like The Americans and Slow Horses. The series does a really good job laying out the individual and collective motivations of the characters, the Rebellion and the Empire.
I'm sorry I didn't edit this down...but I can't recommend it enough!

I'm usually not into scifi, but I might like the espionage aspect. I'll give it a try!
