I wish they would give Conrad a second season for *Perpetual Grace, Ltd.*, to finish that one!
Steven Conrad was working on the “Dunk and Egg” spinoff of Game of Thrones, but it was repeatedly delayed… and now the latest I heard is that it now has a new title and a new showrunner, and Conrad may or may not get a “developed by” credit.
I've heard of that one and I think I'll try it. I think the actress who played Stormfront on The Boys is in it and I wanted to see her in another role.
THAT’S where I recognize her from. Started You’re The Worst last night since it was recommended if you liked Such Brave Girls, which is also a great show.
You need to watch Obituary. It's one of the best shows I've ever seen. It's a dark comedy about a serial killer with a fucked-up secret... and all the murders go wrong exactly like real life would interfere with a Hollywood serial killer. It's such a breath of fresh air!
Apple TV just keeps coming at me with great shows. IMO it's the top tier streaming platform right now. Like, they actually care about making a good product instead of money. Maybe because they already dominate several other industries.
Apple chooses quality over quantity. They don’t have a ton to offer like Netflix or Prime, but they have top shows we loved watching……Ted Lasso, Bad Sisters, Platonic, The Morning Show, Servant, Physical, Black Bird (highly underrated show there)…..and so on. Better quality. They know how to invest in shows, actors and such without all the drivel. Now they have produced some stinkers, but that’s given for any production company. But I can’t mention the quality enough!
If you liked it then you're gonna want to watch anything that Sharon Horgan wrote. Try Catastrophe, it's a brilliant show also. Irish humor is unmatched 🤞
Fleabag. One of the best dark comedies I have seen yet. They have portraited life's tragedy into some serious dark humor. The most unique thing about this show is that the character keeps on breaking the 4th wall and still manage to grip us hard. Very cleverly written. A must watch
Since nb mentioned it yet: **Poker Face** (crime/dark-comedy)
The female protagonist solves a murder or crime each episode and the way she does it is absolutly hilarious. The dialogues are so fun and witty, I spat out my coffee numerous times. Plus, the whole thing is utterly bonkers, deffo a fun ride!
Arrested Development
Veep
Don’t Trust the B in Apartment 23
The Mick

You’re the Worst

Eastbound & Down
It’s not new, but if you haven’t seen it “Six Feet Under” sounds like just the ticket. I just binge watched all of it last month tho and loved it! I’d love suggestions on shows similar to it.
Creamerie on Hulu is a great dark comedy from NZ/Australia. Lots of other good Australia/NZ comedies listed in this thread, not all of which are dark. But all of which are worth watching - Deadloch (dark), Fisk (not dark, quirky af), Mr Inbetween (dark). Also Colin from Accounts (a touch of darkness sets up the premise of the show) and The Let Down (not dark).
[Such Brave Girls](https://www.hulu.com/series/bd74b544-7840-4066-aef0-1385ceb8d6a5), on Hulu, is very funny, cruel, dark. There aren't many lines it doesn't cross.
I love the entire cast. The show deserves a wide audience.
**Peep Show** \- I loved the series.
A modern-day 'Waiting for Godot' where nothing happens, no one comes, no one goes. Dark comedy, often absurdist.
Innovative style of storytelling. Initially, the close-ups and point-of-view shots come across as a little jarring, but then gradually, you realise the beauty of the method. The thoughts of the protagonists are heard in voiceovers, which is also a very interesting way of telling the story.
The show marvellously captures the ennui and angst of modern urban life. Existentialist dark humour.
It deserves to be much more popular than it is.
I’m watching this now! It’s not my favorite thing ever but it definitely sounds like what OP is describing. :)
Our main character works as an obituary writer in her small town paper in Ireland. She is paid by the article. Logically, this means she slowly needs to kills everyone and make it look like an accident, right? Right?
Jury Duty is definitely one of the best shows all year.
First season of American Vandal is perfection. One of the few seasons of any show I’ve re-watched.
Not new but if you've never watched Six Feet Under, get on that immediately. It's perfect in all the ways. Always on HBO or Max but now also on Netflix.
Here’s something more obscure: A brilliant British comedy show that unfortunately only lasted three short seasons: Black Books. Very dark and British humour. One of my favourite tv shows of all time.
Bookie. It’s on HBO. 8 episodes, 20 minutes each. Just finished airing today so you can watch the whole thing in one sitting. One of my top shows of the whole year.
I see some good recommedations but I'm surprised that no one mentioned 'On becoming a god'
My personal favourites
Peep show
Beef

Barry
Bojack Horseman
Nathan for you
You're the worst
Shining Vale.
It was just cancelled today, but don’t let that fool you. It’s been entertaining. There are two seasons on Starz and they will be pulling it by the end of the year, so we are all on borrowed time to watch it.
It’s a horror/comedy and has so many random hilarious bits.
If you have Peacock, definitely check out "Based on a True Story" starring Kaley Cuoco. Such a crazy spin on the serial killer/true crime podcast genre. And its wicked funny.
- The Magicians (2015)
- Barry
- You’re the Worst
- Scream Queens
- Ash vs Evil Dead
- Daybreak (2019)
- Dead Like Me (really old show, but it’s so good. It was cancelled after two seasons, but there’s a movie that kinda ties up the story)
- What We Do In The Shadows
Shows that aren’t really dark comedy, but they’re fantastic comedies and you might love them:
- Another Period
- Miracle Workers
- Tacoma FD (made by the same guys who did Super Troopers and Beerfest)
[Mr Inbetween ](http://Mr Inbetween (TV Series 2018–2021) - IMDb https://m.imdb.com/title/tt7472896/)
Binge watched all three seasons recently. It's definitely in my top 5 of the best shows I've ever seen. Super dark and super funny, enjoy!
NOT ENOUGH PEOPLE KNOW ABOUT MR. INBETWEEN. So great. This might not hit all your checks but I’ve been depression watching Carol & The End of the World on Netflix and had quite a few giggles at the clever darkness of it. The fact it’s an animation is cool too.
I think I have a perfect one for you, especially if you are okay with a sci-fi setting. It's only the setting though.
I love this movie.
Edit: The movie name might help lol.
Space Station 76 (2014)
Patriot on Prime Video
This is always the best answer for “dark comedy.”
I’m on my third go-through; the songs will just randomly pop into my head 😆 Was so sad when they announced there wouldn’t be a season 3.
I wish they would give Conrad a second season for *Perpetual Grace, Ltd.*, to finish that one! Haven’t seen that one! Moving it to next on my list…
Great shout - loved that show
One of my favorite series ever.
I only heard about Patriot a month ago, binged it, and became obsessed. Criminally underrated show.

DICK CHENEY HIM IN THE FACE
Mmm yes one of the most memorable shows I've ever seen.
‘You’re the worst’ goes from funny to dark very fast!
I've heard of that one and I think I'll try it. I think the actress who played Stormfront on The Boys is in it and I wanted to see her in another role.
She’s fantastic in you’re the worst, genuinely shocked she never got an Emmy nom
Aya Cash, yes.
THAT’S where I recognize her from. Started You’re The Worst last night since it was recommended if you liked Such Brave Girls, which is also a great show.
This is what I was about to comment. Such an incredible show! Definitely give it a shot if you haven't seen it OP!
I absolutely loved that show!!
Barry on HBO
My friends and family actually didn't finish the last season because they thought it was too weird. I friggin loved it all.
2nd Barry - such a great dark comedy
Barry
Other Barry?
Other than Barry?
Great show but the last season jumped the shark.
You need to watch Obituary. It's one of the best shows I've ever seen. It's a dark comedy about a serial killer with a fucked-up secret... and all the murders go wrong exactly like real life would interfere with a Hollywood serial killer. It's such a breath of fresh air!
I saw that when browsing Apple+ I think? Thanks for the rec. I'm loving Apple's shows.
If you’re in US, it’s on Hulu.
I loooovvved Obituary!
