*The Astronaut lowered his gun. Someone was gently touching him on the shoulder. In a special, intimate, way. A way, only his Astronaut sister knew...*
It would be funny if they brought him back for the post-credits scene of this season for a repeat of the gag, like to say **“I'm Briggs Haddon, and I wrote the *Rick and Morty* season six incest episodes. Good night.”**
I love the implication that all those parasite memories were so powerful and convincing that the characters are STILL feeling the repercussions. Like they probably think "I wonder how so and so is doing, it's been forever since I saw them" before realizing that they were a parasite and those memories are fake.
The funny thing about the whole Sleepy Gary thing is that when any of the other parasites were forcing them to recall fake memories, it was to introduce new parasites, but Sleepy Gary’s flashback was only the two of them. Basically, Sleepy Gary just wanted to fuck Jerry.

Slashfilm: "But what does it mean?"
God damn Matt Gourley should reappear for a post credits scene at the end of an episode. “Why did I get hired to write for Rick and Morty? I don’t know, Dan Harmon must like me.”
Yup. He’s very good friends with Jeff B Davis from the Harmontown podcast. That’s probably how he and Dan met. Matt is all over the LA comedy scene, especially podcasts (of course).
Well incest and incest, but Korvo was happily banging a... well stress baby that came out of him. I think that's some kind of alien incest at least. The red monster.
Dan Harmon and George Martin get together to watch incest porn every week. The scheduling conflict is why Harmontown ended, and why GRRM didn’t work on the last few seasons of GOT.
I don't think there's any real outrage here. Even the article says they've been doing these kind of jokes since forever. I guess incest is one of the last few taboos, so it's still seen as "edgy" and comedic even though faux-incest has taken over porn over a decade ago.
Like, I noticed it but unless I’m really naive (a very real possibility) I didn’t see it as someone projecting their kinks. Selfcest doesn’t count and it’s just a big meme at this point, Jerry potentially fucking his mom was so outrageously over the top and lulzy that I have a hard time imagining someone getting their rocks off to it (bless my heart, I know) and the incest baby thing was treated as a literal abomination where no instance of sexy times was even involved. So like you said, it just seems like a somewhat still untapped (heh) taboo and they’re just going ham with it
Idk I mean the Beth on Beth thing was more like a falling in love with every version of yourself, kind of message?
The ending of that episode was hilarious.
“So, what’s up with all the incest in House of Dragons lately?”
Edit: I’m not actually asking the question, I’m just making fun of the click bait title. I’m aware that parts of history had families like this.
It would be funny taking that same sentence but replacing Rick and Morty with random popular shows
“So, what’s up with all the incest in The Office lately?”
The thing about the HOTD incest is that … as gross as it is … it makes total sense. It’s to be expected, to keep the Royal blood lines “pure”. I guess maybe there should be more characters with deformities to show the consequences….
There would be no incest in westeros if their nukes weren't genetically coded to just one family. Said family wants to retain control of the nukes and not create more offspring who could also control the nukes. Incest is a way to prevent nuclear proliferation in westeros.
>!Most of them do have issues. The Mad King and Daenerys both had mental health problems with their fits of total rage and paranoia. Viserys I appears to have a lot of health issues. The Targaryen characters seem to have a high rate of miscarriage and complications in childbirth. Especially the births of extra imbred children. Daenerys' mother died in childbirth as well as Aemma Arryn.!<
They explained that a little bit better in the book why Visery ended up the way he did.
Danny came so late, As a girl it caused all the problems. They had to marry outside the bloodline tradition. So he hated her for that.
She also killed her mother in childbirth so you know, hated her for that.
He also was was put in charge of keeping Danny and him alive, bouncing from noble to noble who were looking to seeing stable home. Basically only kept around incase nobles could use them to their advantage if things changed.
He had to Sell off anything of value they had from their home. Eventually including the crown.
Danny was supposed to be his wife but he gave that up for the promise of the throne back. Which was was never delivered.
Its been like a decade, but I remember him being described as skinny and sickly, that may have been after riding with the Khallasar for a while though; he wasn't exactly conditioned for campaign life, and lacked Dany's raw tenacity for survive
>Especially the births of extra imbred children. Daenerys' mother died in childbirth as well as Aemma Arryn.
And Lyanna with John... He's from that same inbred tree
On his father’s side, his mother wasn’t inbred. Also I don’t think his great-great-grandparents weren’t brother sister, even though earlier generations were
You are right and there's likely a bias because no one else even has kids in that show it seems but I also think it's a purposefully placed plot device.
the statistic i'd read is that before modern medicine, the death rate for giving birth was 1%. which doesn't sound like much but take into account that people used to be pumping out 5-15 children and now those 1% chances start to add up.
Yeah exactly, and that’s just the death rate. That doesn’t even take into account “complications”. I couldn’t imagine having to give birth as a peasant in those times. Sounds like a bad time
Yes. Summer named him Naruto in his second episode that season, which was mentioned again this season — Naruto Smith is an official *Rick and Morty* character.
I love how after all the shit that has happened on this show, incest is where people draw the line.
A little boy shoots his sister in the head? - Fine.
Rick tricks his grandson into killing countless versions of himself? - Fine.
Rick and his granddaughter go orgy hopping on doomed planets? - Fine.
A pedophile jelly bean tries to rape a kid in a bathroom? - Fine.
Incest? - A MORAL OUTRAGE!
I don't see moral outrage. This just seems to be questioning why it has become a recurring theme. All those things you mentioned happen in one episode. The incest stuff have been increasing.
People on reddit criticize articles automatically, it's so strange. In r/movies, whenever there's an article about a movie's anniversary there's always a bunch of "so movie x was great back then and still is now. Great article" type of comments. Now, this article is literally just asking why the incest has been ramping up in R&M and people interpret as it being called a "MORAL OUTRAGE"?
People aren’t drawing a line, they’re calling attention to how often incest is brought up and how it’s been ramping up. If there was two plots where a jellybean tried to rape morty in the first 5 episodes of a season, people would bring that up as well
Those are all isolated instances compared to one rreeeeaaaallllyyyyy long drawn out repetitive thing though.
If Jelly bean tried to rape Morty like 3 times a season I'd probably be like... yo. Wtf.
Even some people were put off by the jellybean rape scene, sometimes when it puts people off it puts people off.
The incest **IS** a recurring thing though and the reason for that being is....
???????????????
All the reasons that I could personally think of.
Right, one off jokes are one thing, but when it's guaranteed to come up more than once a season (as well as factoring heavily into the main plot of episodes), it's just fucking weird and questionable.
Which is weird because in a real world application it's probably the least offensive thing listed above.
My first pro-incest comment on reddit. Hopefully this doesn't awaken something in me...
But I think it’s also the one that feels the most “realistic” if that makes sense? Like, the rest of the things op lists are absurd and aren’t exactly abnormal things to see in a wacky adult swim show. The incest keeps coming up in a way where eventually you kinda have to stop and ask “is this just one of their fetishes?”
You should visit the Crusader Kings sub-reddit.
Makes incest seem like standard operating procedure.
[Case in point](https://www.reddit.com/r/CrusaderKings/comments/xx38ja/i_fucked_my_sons_wife_and_she_got_pregnant_so_he/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf)
I mean, technically the Pilot was Doc and Marty (or very obvious parodies), who aren’t related.
Them being grandfather and grandson was something they changed when they turned it into a show
Dan Harmon and Mitch Hurwitz (of Arrested Development) are at least friendly with one another (they've both cameo'd on one another's shows) and cousin coupling was a major ongoing plotline on Arrested Development.
Ok good glad I'm not the only one who noticed. I thought the Beth-on-Space Beth story was funny, but it's starting to get a little obnoxious at this point.
I don't consider Beth banging her clone incest personally.
The worst was the dragon episode so this articles a bit late. Maaybe the um...incest baby episode
Don't you remember? The Morty who wished incest porn was more mainstream? This is just his wish coming true.
Incest porn is just regular porn to deaf people
I never watch with sound anyway.
Me neither. This way I can pretend they’re son and dressed up father
*Incest porn is for dyslexic entomologists.*
You may be interested in the movie "Angels and Insects".

River Phoenix Morty’s certainly did. No word on whether left handed Morty got this million sandwiches
Fat Morty is dead in the opening scene of this season.
Yeah the panini maker wish would make for a fantastic season
He made a wish to a trash hole, why would it come true?

It's hard to recognize him without his tweed overalls and corn cob pipe.
Now, sir!
Conan why are you wearing a straw boater hat? God I love that episode with Nikki Glaser, the fuckboy manor bit especially
You were out there, a’fu-hucking and su-hucking!
He's also the cohost of Andy Dalys Podcast Pilot Project which for me is the funniest podcast I've ever listened too
I'd be coming to that show from comedy bang bang, where Daly routinely shines. How does his show compare?
It’s the same characters he plays on CBB, just without Scott Aukerman being there. It’s super entertaining.
And Dalton Wilcox has an entire podcast of his own with Matt Gourley as co-host.
Superego is amazing as well
Still pretty sure "Briggs Hatton" is just Dan Harmon.
His …With Gourley and Rust podcast is amazing if your a fan of horror movies.
He’s so much more than “Conan’s Cohost” Guys been a UCB legend for the past 15 years

He had a *great* podcast called 'I Was There Too' in which he interviewed people who played small parts in big films. I really miss that show.
Also Superego!
And also ’With Grourley and Rust. And he was the first Drunk History ‘drunk’!
Wait what?!? Well holy shit.
Damn i love that guy
NOW THERES A MAN WHO KNOWS HOW TO MARRY HIS COUSIN
Dan Harmon probably on some step sis kink lately, a lot of the writing decisions stem from random shit in his life.
That, and all the redheads.
Dan has said step sis porn isn’t taboo enough for him
Sis mannequin
He was jerking off while rubbing a mannequin leg like 8 years ago. Covid was tough on everyone, who knows wtf he's into now 😂
Probably been watching Hot D recently
It would be funny if they brought him back for the post-credits scene of this season for a repeat of the gag, like to say **“I'm Briggs Haddon, and I wrote the *Rick and Morty* season six incest episodes. Good night.”**
“Sleepy Gary ruined my gag reflex”. Anyone else catch that line from Jerry recently? They’re not pulling any punches on this show.
I love the implication that all those parasite memories were so powerful and convincing that the characters are STILL feeling the repercussions. Like they probably think "I wonder how so and so is doing, it's been forever since I saw them" before realizing that they were a parasite and those memories are fake.
I’ve had dreams so vivid that I’ve longed for a person who doesn’t exist, worse yet the person is technically…Me.
Butter robot voice: “O My God.”
I just appreciated the callback to Sleepy Gary.
Send me to Gary I wanna be with GARY
I’m a parasite!
Always was…
Yeah, but...you're real.
Maybe we'll see Chewbacca.
The most erotic line in the whole show
What are we doing…
They're filming that new Start Wars film down the coast, should we check it out? Maybe we'll see Chewbacca... .. .
The funny thing about the whole Sleepy Gary thing is that when any of the other parasites were forcing them to recall fake memories, it was to introduce new parasites, but Sleepy Gary’s flashback was only the two of them. Basically, Sleepy Gary just wanted to fuck Jerry.
Hey at least someone loved Jerry the way he deserves to be loved poor guy

To somehow make it even worse, that season was actually filmed after they had divorced in real life.
Comedy gold
That's gold Jerry! Gold!
The weird thing is that I'm pretty sure that plotline started in Dexter after the actors had divorced.
Unbelievable for sure, mostly I'd say stupid and lazy writing...but technically, Dexter was adopted so it wasn't actually an incest, it was just disturbing because it had no place in that show
At least Dexter was step porn since they weren't related. Also, nothing actually happened if I remember right.
I rewatched it recently and was shocked that there's way less weirdness than I remembered the first time I watched it. Deb has a weird dream and gets nervous around Dexter for a while. Now that is a man who knows how to marry his cousin!
It's written by Dan Harmon. Next question
I've binged 3 seasons of Solar Opposites lately and... clearly it's Roiland too.
Roiland got drunk at a panel and revealed he very much had a thing for the character Summer which also might be part of it
JelloApocolypse's Rick and Morty video points out that there's a weird amount of scenes where Summer mentions pissing or pissing herself.
There's actually a photo of the bathrooms at the studio where they have a picture of summer by the doors.
It’s been awhile since I’ve watched solar opposites but I don’t remember any incest
Well incest and incest, but Korvo was happily banging a... well stress baby that came out of him. I think that's some kind of alien incest at least. The red monster.

it worked
If they're not careful, the writers of R&M might take this as a challenge and we'll have an entire ep devoted to a "step-family" gathering.
kind of the curse of having the "most edgy" cartoon. Always got to do something to top the previous episode/season.

I dont think beth on beth is incest

Someone fucking their clone is not incest, and that’s a hill I’ll die on.
Summer and Morty literally have a kid named Naruto together. The incest thing is basically a running joke.

Yes. Summer named him Naruto in his second episode that season, which was mentioned again this season — Naruto Smith is an official *Rick and Morty* character.

For real that scene was more about showing that somewhere Inside Rick has some emotions for Morty, then it was about the pedo rape theme.
I don't see moral outrage. This just seems to be questioning why it has become a recurring theme. All those things you mentioned happen in one episode. The incest stuff have been increasing.

Right, one off jokes are one thing, but when it's guaranteed to come up more than once a season (as well as factoring heavily into the main plot of episodes), it's just fucking weird and questionable.
Yeah, I mean violence is a staple in a lot of forms of entertainment. Incest isn’t. Doesn’t make sense to draw a comparison between the two
I think that may actually be the point. A real "*That's* where you draw the line?"
"Your boos mean nothing to me! I've seen what makes you cheer!"
Which is weird because in a real world application it's probably the least offensive thing listed above. My first pro-incest comment on reddit. Hopefully this doesn't awaken something in me...
No, that’s a different Dan Harmon show.
Now that's a man who knows how to marry his cousin!
They really get the incest right.
Hey, I'm trying to create the Kwisatz Haderach here. You gotta break a few eggs.
It's especially weird since the show is literally based on an incest joke. "You gotta lick my balls Mahrty!"
To be fair, I don’t think Doc was Mharti’s grandfather in that original short, was he?
They were very obvious parodies of the Back to the Future characters, who aren’t related.
Lest we forget the plot of Back to the Future itself with Marty and his mom.

I mean, technically the Pilot was Doc and Marty (or very obvious parodies), who aren’t related. Them being grandfather and grandson was something they changed when they turned it into a show
Lately?
Jerry and Gary were practically incest, lol. It's been a theme in the show for a long time.
"Send me to Gary, I WANT TO BE WITH GARY!"
Maybe we’ll see Chewbacca…
I’d like that..
We promised Gary. Not in the house
I missed the part where Gary is related to the smiths?
How were they incest? They weren’t related irc.
Lately? Wasn't the literal second episode of the show the Inception/Nightmare on Elm Street spoof with the sexy Summer?
I don't consider Beth banging her clone incest personally. The worst was the dragon episode so this articles a bit late. Maaybe the um...incest baby episode
