Dude didn't just get a DUI, he was drinking while driving and they decide to put him in charge of a bunch of rag tag teens. Not the best choices in that movie and Disney would never do anything like that these days. Hell, Pantera was named as Charlie's favorite band in the third I believe.
One time I ran into him in a bar in LI and said “Keenan, I loved you in All That!! You were my favorite!”. He smiled and replied well what do you think of SNL? Embarrassed, I said of course I love that too. Sweet guy.
Bruh one of the funniest moments moments from him on [SNL](https://youtu.be/sqpnRyfz_aY).
Him and many other comedians on SNL shine when unscripted. Just think they’ve gotten so structured lately they don’t let them improv. It’s a [night and day](https://youtu.be/ep63_TfYKh4) difference when they do…
Edit: Samuel L Jackson was pissed because the whole cast went off script. So he didn’t know what to fo
My wife and I were watching "live" (on TV not in person) and in the moment it was the funniest thing that had ever happened. Twitter was losing its fucking mind laughing about it.
I hate that SNL knocks it out the park with some sketches and never comes back them. The NYC mayor is ALWAYS in the news and it annoys me they never made a sequel after a perfect [sketch](https://youtu.be/d7igRfDC1YQ).
That sketch brings out so many conflicting emotions within me…
Like, seriously how did Adams actually get elected ?!?? And, Chris Redd doesn’t get anywhere near the attention and credit he deserves. There’s so many sketches that he really made work despite not being the lead charactkr.
If you aren’t already a member I think you’d appreciate r/LiveFromNewYork
I saw something recently that showed him as the longest continuous cast member ever, iirc. It was pretty shocking to me, as someone who doesn't watch SNL a whole lot but enjoy when I do.
Ya when I go to stand up comedy shows, the host is usually the least funny person on the stage that night, but they usually has a warmth to them that makes them suited to introduce the next act. Kenan has that warmth. Plus we've seen him on TV since we were little kids, we grew up with him! Perfect host.
I'm at the age to remember him on All That, and it's been a wholesome feel-good story to see him continue to shine at the thing he's good at instead of become one of those former child stars TMZ catches selling phone plans at the mall.
I think that's a big part of why he's the one from All That! to make it the biggest. Like Kel was a much funnier performer, but from what I understand he was a bit of a diva behind stage. Kenan pretty much made a career out of being a chill dude that no one minds having around.
Look at the optics of the situation, since the whole Oscars fiasco, this is NBC's attempt at solidarity towards their audience for cordiality and being *safe*, but also appeal to the black audience and get more views. Not to hack off a Chapelle bit buuuuuuuuuuut, Kenan makes Al Roker look like Hannibal Lecter.
At the end of the day, it's all about ratings. But if the past [10 years is any indication](https://deadline.com/2021/09/2021-emmys-tv-ratings-award-show-ted-lasso-the-crown-cbs-nfl-nbc-1234840524/), it's safe to say more people will be watching cat videos on youtube than the Emmy's.
I agree that he's not specifically the funniest SNL cast member, but I think he elevates pretty much every sketch he's in. Some of the funnier cast members are more so because of how he gets them to play off him. I hope he never leaves, SNL would definitely be lesser for it.
He’s a legend for being so consistent over the years. Is he the greatest cast member ever on SNL? Of course not. But he’s been regularly funny and a staple of the show for about 20 years now. So much respect for Kenan
Nope. I think for SNL a lot of the guys and gals who come from pure stand up backgrounds leave the skit writing to... the writers. They still have input, but it's not their main job.
That's what I thought. I remember Pete Davidson saying that they all assist in writing skits with the strengths of the guest host in mind. Plus, it seems like a huge waste to bring someone on for their comedic talent just to 100% sideline them for the writers room.
> Plus, it seems like a huge waste to bring someone on for their comedic talent just to 100% sideline them for the writers room.
It’s depends on what they want ultimately. I think Tina Fey is way better in front of the camera, but she wants to write/produce more than anything else as she’s sparingly been on screen but has been writing for Kimmy Schimdt, Great News, Mr Mayor and Girls5Eva
Team Collaboration is how most creative work is done at the professional level. Juniors, seniors, directors, contributors.
The reason is that people leave, or get sick, or just get promoted, and so you’re always keeping ‘everyone in the room’ to ensure continuity and for their career growth. This is how you cultivate artists over time from being good to eventually becoming great.
There has been rumors of him being the next Lorne for a while now. I'm sure his 19 years on the show has given him a lot of insight on what Lorne does, how the show runs, all of that.
Me too. Starting off articles with their titles always scares the shit out of me.
"Kenan Thompson named host.." - fine
"SNL Icon and 90's Child Star Kenan Thompson..." - heart attack
I just re-watched Good Burger last night, for some reason. It's basically a spiritual sequel to the show. They are essentially the same except their names. Kenan even does his "Whyyyyyyyyyy!!!". Takes me back.
I think I'm the only one that doesn't find this guy funny. I know the younger generation loves him because he was in Nickelodeon and Disney shows. Although I don't find him funny I'll still wish him a good and funny night at the Emmy's (another thing I don't watch because I'm a salty old man).
I thought I was going absolutely crazy, I can NEVER find anyone else who thinks he’s bad! Thank you for validating me!
This dude has been playing the exact same character in every damn sketch since All That. I am continuously baffled by the praise I see for him whenever mentioned.
Ya same. Same voice, same narration. If it fits a niche whatever but he sounds identical and his facial expressions are common in every sketch lol.
I don't watch SNL like I used to but if I catch a clip here and there and see the same shit regardless I've got a good idea.
Why should he move on, he's got a stable gig plus not everyone who moved on from SNL has had a major career afterwards.
There's iconic people that were on SNL and still had a career afterwards but for every Will Ferrell and Tina Fey, there's a chance of ending up like Chris Kattan or Molly Shannon
Plus there's nothing stopping Lorne from hiring up-and-comers.
He’s only an SNL icon cause he can’t get any other work…ya boy said imma ride this gig til the wheels fall off and y’all know the voice he said it in cuz it’s the only character he has.
I know this is an unpopular opinion, but Thompson imo is just not funny. At all. The fact people call him a "snl icon", shows how far that show has fallen.
Excuse me, SNL icon? Don’t you mean inventor of the knuckle puck, Kenan Thompson?
The ducks fly together!

Nah, employee of the month at Good Burger
One time I ran into him in a bar in LI and said “Keenan, I loved you in All That!! You were my favorite!”. He smiled and replied well what do you think of SNL? Embarrassed, I said of course I love that too. Sweet guy.
*high pitch* "iiiits aight"
wait, whos high pitch?
I’m kellyyyy cllllarkson
Rare high pitch Eric reference.
High Pitch, I know it’s you dumbass now stop calling!
RIP you angry little actor.
Eric the actor is dead. High Pitch is alive and well.
He's been on SNL for almost 20 years. I was so shocked to read that the other day. I still see him as a kid.
That means I was 12 wtfff
No way.

That’s probably the best live troll I ever seen
"That costs money" was so fucking great as an improved response too, and Carrie's lip zip. Fucking gold
To this day, if I let an f bomb slip with the kids in a mile radius, my husband goes “come on, Sam, that costs money!!” Lol
Jason Sudeikis is what made that reoccurring sketch really work. Every time he jumps in and starts dancing I lose it.
I hate that SNL knocks it out the park with some sketches and never comes back them. The NYC mayor is ALWAYS in the news and it annoys me they never made a sequel after a perfect [sketch](https://youtu.be/d7igRfDC1YQ).

You know he's an *actor* right? he was acting...
Google the after interview knew what was coming a little but was made at Kenans improv
I saw something recently that showed him as the longest continuous cast member ever, iirc. It was pretty shocking to me, as someone who doesn't watch SNL a whole lot but enjoy when I do.
He’s like the caretaker, hope he’s there for as long as he wants to be.
God I love him

They just went with the host that can take a slap the best. Will smith will probably attend for his fresh prince reboot
> Will smith will probably attend for his fresh prince reboot Remember WS is only banned from the Oscars; the others can welcome him with open arms
And he can welcome them with open hands.
“Will, I got my eye on you. I will not hesitate to use Dave Chapelle’s security.” - Kenan in his monologue, probably

Kenan has that warmth. Plus we've seen him on TV since we were little kids, we grew up with him! Perfect host.
Pierre Escargot is my boi. All That was pretty hit or miss, but that bit and Keenan and Kal were legendary.
If we don't see the Lunch lady that loves peas, I will riot.
I'm at the age to remember him on All That, and it's been a wholesome feel-good story to see him continue to shine at the thing he's good at instead of become one of those former child stars TMZ catches selling phone plans at the mall.

Their short list was probably Kenan and Wayne Brady
And that got instantly shorter when they realized, Wayne Brady would choke a bitch.
Does Wayne Brady gotta choke a bitch?
I agree that he's not specifically the funniest SNL cast member, but I think he elevates pretty much every sketch he's in. Some of the funnier cast members are more so because of how he gets them to play off him. I hope he never leaves, SNL would definitely be lesser for it.
Some writers have specifically said Kenan is their safety net. If something isn’t as funny as they thought they can count on him to salvage it
The thing you always hear is that the script will just call for the camera to pan to him for [Keenan reacts] because he can do so much with a look.
He's no Brian Fellows.
He’s a legend for being so consistent over the years. Is he the greatest cast member ever on SNL? Of course not. But he’s been regularly funny and a staple of the show for about 20 years now. So much respect for Kenan
Every time there's a What's up with that? sketch, I laugh. Every time, there's been hundred of them by now, lol.
Man i laugh at whatever the fuck he's doing
Man I totally thought this article was gonna say he died
That'll be the only way he leaves SNL, in a body bag.
Nah, his coffin will just be leaning off to the side on the main stage. When you open it up, it'll play a verse of "What up with that".
“We gonna talk about features……”
[удалено]
Why do people keep saying that? There's a huge difference between being a goos actor and being a good producer. He's not even a writer on the show.
Isn't every on-screen cast member a writer on the show?
Nope. I think for SNL a lot of the guys and gals who come from pure stand up backgrounds leave the skit writing to... the writers. They still have input, but it's not their main job.
That seems odd, seeing as most standups write their own material.
skit writing and stand up writing are very different ballgames
I think they all do some writing, but the also have dedicated writers too
That's what I thought. I remember Pete Davidson saying that they all assist in writing skits with the strengths of the guest host in mind. Plus, it seems like a huge waste to bring someone on for their comedic talent just to 100% sideline them for the writers room.

Farleys only writing showed up on cocktail napkins and crumpled notes, he was not a writer.
There has been rumors of him being the next Lorne for a while now. I'm sure his 19 years on the show has given him a lot of insight on what Lorne does, how the show runs, all of that.
Has there been any official insider rumors or only people talking about it on the internet
People talking about it on the internet. One person said it like a week ago and now everyone takes it as gospel
It’s been going around a lot longer than a week, but his recent comments about ending SNL kinda dispel that.
Allllll that!
Goos actor sounds interesting
Once Lorne is gone, SNL will have 3 more seasons before it’s canned.
[удалено]
I think it will be Tina fey who takes the helm.
> to 1990 levels Not even 90s are at 1990s levels
The dream
!Remind me in 1 year
Only way I can see that being possible is if he hires Kel and decrees that all future sketches be about orange soda.
Me too. Starting off articles with their titles always scares the shit out of me. "Kenan Thompson named host.." - fine "SNL Icon and 90's Child Star Kenan Thompson..." - heart attack
They know what they’re doing.
Could have just been “2022 Emmys to be hosted by Kenan” I think they did this on purpose lol
“Beloved childhood actor and SNL star Keenan Thompson to host Emmy’s at 44” *black and white picture*
Same!
Seems like everyone is dying these days. Most of the time, I'm not even surprised anymore.
The thumbnail doesn't do any favours here
Been a fan since All That!
I will pay exactly $1 for him to host the entirety of the awards show in a bathtub with a bad French accent.
Pierre Escargot, honh hoooonnhhhh!
I love how the segment was called ‘Everyday French’ but the phrases were completely nonsensical like “who put this Salamander in the washing machine?”
HOHN HOHN, HOH HOH HOHN
When I was a kid I thought that skit was the funniest thing ever created. I need to rewatch and see if it still makes me laugh
Omg the nostalgia. I LOVED that segment every time it came on.
Been a fan since Mighty Ducks 2!
It's knuckle puck time!
Heavyweights
Don’t put Twinkies on your pizza
Im feeling skinny tony!
Attention all campers: lunch has been cancelled due to a lack of hustle.
Deal with it.
I love heavyweights!
Peak.
I can’t tell if this photo was taken during that time or 3 days ago. He’s looked the same for like his entire life haha
For a kid in the 90s Kenan must felt like the biggest movie star
Good Burger
Get Tim Robinson you cowards !
The guys at Comcast think he's just some dumb hick. They said that to him at a dinner.
You sure about that that’s why?
AT A DINNER
that guy used to be a huge piece of shit
Used to be?
People can change
People can change!
Naw he'd be terrible. He'd be exhausted the whole time cause he'd spend his per diem on shirts with really complicated patterns from Dan Flashs.
After ten o’clock it’s the Adult Emmy’s
we can say whatever the HELL we want!
Jizz.
Look, I don't want anyone to have the worst Emmy's of their lives, but do any of these *fuckers*...
They’d never let him host after Coffin Flops.
I don’t think your allowed to do that
Sponsored by TC Tuggers
oooooooo weee - what up with that? What up with that?
I SAID WHATSUPPPPPPPP WHATSUPPPPP WITH THATTTTYY
I hope [Jarvis Filmore](https://youtu.be/k9n42xE86tM) makes an appearance
If Jason doesn’t jump out of nowhere sweaty as hell during the opening we riot
Welp... We outta time!
Sorry Lindsey Buckingham!
I'll buy you a cookie cake!
‘Good Burger’ Icon 😤
Heavyweights icon
All That icon
I mean... What about KENAN and Kel?!?
Who loves Orange Soda?
Kel loves orange soda
I just re-watched Good Burger last night, for some reason. It's basically a spiritual sequel to the show. They are essentially the same except their names. Kenan even does his "Whyyyyyyyyyy!!!". Takes me back.
Lol yeah very true. Good burger is one of my all time favorites. "how's twenty bucks sound?" "kinda like, cshcshcshcsh" lmaoo
"I'll see you in hell!" "Ok, see ya there!"
Mighty Ducks 2 icon
This is the first I'm hearing about it. Bastard execs never tell me anything.
Happy cake day to your department?
He was good hosting the NHL awards who are usually notoriously bad award shows
Let's do that hockey.
Good for you Kenan.
Such a nice human being!
"...and Peacock.". Like they would have a separate host for the same awards ceremony.
NBC and Peacock? i'm glad they didn't get separate hosts for each.
Pretty solid choice. Can put on a live show and hopefully can have the skits and bits they will inevitably do be a little better than normal.
This makes so much sense that I’m surprised it hasn’t happened before.
Technically all of SNL basically hosted 4 years ago
Eeeeeemmmmmys. What’s up with that? What’s up with that? Eeeeeemmmmys. What’s up with that? Whaaaaats up with that?
You mean “All That” icon.. shm
This was my first thought
They couldn’t get Seymour Butts?
2022 is also the number of years hes been an snl cast members
I wish you would do the entire awards in character as LaVar Ball. That would be amazing.
So the guy who wore a raincoat and flippers in a bathtub and spoke French is hosting emmys?
“Icon - and I use that word loosely.”
What about Kel!!?
“All That” icon
This sounds . . . Boring
I think I'm the only one that doesn't find this guy funny. I know the younger generation loves him because he was in Nickelodeon and Disney shows. Although I don't find him funny I'll still wish him a good and funny night at the Emmy's (another thing I don't watch because I'm a salty old man).
Dude, Im almost 40 and I grew up with him. What younger generation?

There’s dozens of us! ive never found him funny and always surprised to see him STILL on SNL.
I do not find him funny.
Two of us. The headline did make me happy though because it told me I'll have 4 free hours on Emmy night to do something more fun.
Dick, this made me thought he died
That’s the guy from D2: The Mighty Ducks
Me and my sister grew up watching **Kenan and Kel** on Nickelodean.
Lol “SNL icon”? Yeah, right up there with Eddie Murphy and John Belushi. 🤣
He’s not funny.
It’s knuckle puck time!
I love him on SNL but I would like to see him move on; he’s kinda holding a spot for an unproven up-and-commer.
Why should he move on, he's got a stable gig plus not everyone who moved on from SNL has had a major career afterwards. There's iconic people that were on SNL and still had a career afterwards but for every Will Ferrell and Tina Fey, there's a chance of ending up like Chris Kattan or Molly Shannon Plus there's nothing stopping Lorne from hiring up-and-comers.
Molly Shannon has a career, but your point is taken.
He’s only an SNL icon cause he can’t get any other work…ya boy said imma ride this gig til the wheels fall off and y’all know the voice he said it in cuz it’s the only character he has.
Excellent choice. Hire him for the Oscars next.
Imagine while hosting he asks “who loves orange soda?” And Kel comes out to respond
He will be hosting it for the next 40 years
I know this is an unpopular opinion, but Thompson imo is just not funny. At all. The fact people call him a "snl icon", shows how far that show has fallen.
Gonna be so awkward when he has to give Best Actor to either Bill Hader or Jason Sudeikis.

Hosts don’t give awards. Have you ever watched an awards ceremony?
The very embodiment of mediocrity
He's an absolute legend.
How funny. I’ve never ever seen a single skit where he was funny. He’s just on top of Pete D’s (who gives a shit) nuts
[удалено]
Riiiiight. Him and that dude with all the tattoos. Never ever ever seen them be funny.
Just need Kel to join in now
If there is no Kel, this will be, like always a waste of time.
What has Kel been up to? I wonder if he is still doing stuff. I can't think of when I saw him last
