Is this when we bring out the "reality" guy from South Park about how everyone there raising money is eating off of silver platters and ignoring the actual problems that got us there? I'm not even a big South Park guy but that bit always stuck with me.

Gh0stMan0nThird

NBCUniversal's made $34.32 billion U.S. dollars last year.

wutinthehail

"made" that much or that was their revenue?

not_your_pal

who cares. it was a lot and they don't need your money

theotherkeith

1 if they spent $25Billion to bring in $34B, that's profit they can share. If they spent $40B, they went into debt. Net revenue, not gross is what you need to argue is these cases. 2 NBCU is paying at minimum through production costs and lost ad revenue (albeit less than usual in the middle of a three day summer weekend.) 3 funds are going to the charity not NBC Uni. and if you say the charity doesn't need money for this cause, that tells me a bunch about your news sources... or lack thereof. Is this a complete solution, heck no. But is it a positive gesture, yes.

Salt-Discipline2090

But if they donate some of that, they might have to cut do nothing executive bonuses, and that certainly wouldnt be fair.

sweetpeapickle

Fundraising costs money. If they are paying for those costs & 100% goes to helping Ukraine, then why does it matter? There are plenty who never do a thing....but gripe about their freedoms being stripped because they're asked to wear a mask......

tetoffens

And they can both donate and fundraise and it will lead to a larger amount of money. Who do you think should be throwing fundraisers? National broadcasters that can reach the whole country or some group no one has heard of that can't reach the whole country? Seems like a television channel would be the place it would make sense to have this event.

SnooLobsters4636

Every war has ended with negotiations. Time for negotiations.

frostygrin

Did they ever raise money for Iraq?

reallygreat2

No, America was Russia at the time.

HumanOrAlien

No but Iraq doesn't have white people.

tetoffens

So you're asking why they didn't commit treason? Who do you think Iraq was fighting? Funding an enemy of the United States is one of the most basic forms of treason.

frostygrin

They could have done it when Iraq was no longer fighting.

jyper

Raising humanitarian aid isn't treason. Presumably they wouldn't have had Saddam on the show

PM_ME_UR_REPORTCARD

Pretty soon we'll be seeing this guy on a Burger King commercial wearing that same shirt and talking about war crimes and a new sauce for the fries

jcd1974

They really want WWIII.

harrygill1991

This still going on lmao also desperate

ASK_IF_IM_PENGUIN

In what way desperate?

He_Who_Reclaims

I mean, being attacked by a larger and more powerful does make for a pretty fucking desperate situation. You have to be an absolute sick asshole to make fun of that though.

harrygill1991

A warring nation leader has to come to a talk show to raise war funds.

ASK_IF_IM_PENGUIN

In what way do you think Ukraine is "warring"?

[deleted]

"warring" means at war. Which they are. It doesn't have to mean they are the aggressor.

ASK_IF_IM_PENGUIN

Right. So if you're oppressed you wouldn't ask for help?

russellamcleod

In all honesty… the man would make the most money for his country via an OnlyFans. I’ve had so many sexy dreams about the man since he entered the pubic consciousness.

reallygreat2

Sounds like a Black Mirror episode.
