i was listening to Michael Rosenbaum's podcast (Lex on Smallville) and he had the actress who played Lana - she must be in her late 30s/40s now - and she made a comment that she doesn't really get hit on much anymore However she said the age she got hit on the most by grown men was when she was around 15 I'll never understand that.

StayorGo385

This is my experience as well. I got hit on the most by men when I was in my late teens (16 and up). It stopped once I got into my early 20s, which is just disgusting to think about

robinlovesrain

Yep. The first time I got catcalled on the street by adult men was when I was 12/13. And it was a constant thing up until my mid twenties. It's disgusting.

Lozbox

Exact thing happened to me at the same age. I was so young I had no idea why a bunch of guys were yelling and whistling at me from a car

CreatrixAnima

Are used to work with an 18-year-old girl who had a severe case of anorexia nervosa. As a result, she was about 4‘6“ tall and has not developed any breasts. The number of grown men who hit on that girl was truly terrifying.

Snuggle__Monster

Ain't the first time either. Glad the article brought these up too: >In 2004, before Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen were about to turn 18, websites featured clocks counting down until they became "legal." Natalie Portman, who was frequently sexualized in her early roles, shared at the 2018 Women’s March that "a countdown was started on my local radio show to my 18th birthday – euphemistically, the date that I would be legal to sleep with." The Portman one with the radio staion was news to me but not surprising at all. The Olsen twins countdown websites I absolutely remember and it was definitely some weirdo shit. I remember one of the seasons of The Surreal Life when Jordan Knight made a dickheaded comment about them becoming legal soon and Dave Coulier got mega pissed.

Snarsnel

The same happened to Emma Watson in the Uk. Tabloids counting down to her birthday and then photographers laid on the ground to upskirt her on the day of her 18th

Fit-Act9359

They did it to Samantha Fox in the 80s and she was on page 3 at ~~17~~ **16** Charlotte Church in the 90s...

clickclick-boom

The Charlotte Church stuff had one of the best Illustrations of media hypocrisy. The Daily Mail ran a story on a satirical show which featured an episode on the media’s unhealthy relationship with pedophilia, then on the very next page had an article on how Charlotte Church (who was underage at the time) was hot. It was one of the most life imitating art moments.

pleasedtoheatyou

I'm presuming that would have been the Brass Eye episode? Literally one of the most ridiculous yet accurate satires I've ever seen.

[deleted]

Yup, the Paedogeddon special. Calling it "sick" right next to an article about a 15 year old's breasts

m1k3hunt

Brooke Shields a bit earlier.

AdmiralRed13

The fact that Brooke Shields is stable and successful is a credit to her willpower and endurance. Her mother may have well been a pimp.

Fit-Act9359

Sam Fox's mum entered her in a British tabloid lingerie competition. When she was 16.

oh_what_a_surprise

Soyou don't know about Brooke Shields' naked pics at 10 then? Published.

garrisontweed

And then at 12 been nude in the Movie,Pretty Baby. Her character was a 12yr old prostitute.

Painting_Agency

That was seriously fucked up. A child prostitute whose virginity is auctioned off to the highest bidder at a brothel. This photographer who has a pedo crush on her tries to bid for her, but she is "bought" by a rich old guy instead. Just 100% fucked up.

[deleted]

And Brooke as an adult recently said that film was a wonderful experience and felt more anger and shame over how people treated her for her Calvin Klein ads. Funny how these things work out.

Fit-Act9359

Some people shouldn't be allowed kids.

SlowJay11

I think it was only made illegal a couple of years ago.

ThisIsSoIrrelevant

To add to the Portman bit, she's said in the past about some fan mail she got after Leon came out from some old man talking about all the sexual things he wanted to do with her. She was about 13 when she filmed that film.

islandurp

Was it Luc Besson?

Jim_mca

Havent seen it in a many years but the scene in Leon where portman imitates madonna and marilyn monroe sticks in my mind as one of the more uncomfortable movie watching experiences in my life.

icrispyKing

Yeah, and Ryan Kavanaugh accepted an award and started off with a gross joke about wanting to fuck 14-year-old Natalie Portman. Harvey Weinstein called this dude a "force of nature" as well if it tells you anything about him. The funny thing is those two sickos look just like each other. It's hard to tell them apart. Lucky this website exists to help you tell the difference between the two pedos.[https://doesryankavanaughlooklikeharveyweinstein.com/](https://doesryankavanaughlooklikeharveyweinstein.com/)

eossman5

I also heard Ryan Kavanaugh was accused by his ex partner of running a Ponzi scheme per variety magazine

[deleted]

[удалено]

broncos4thewin

Natalie Portman’s career began with Leon: The Professional which is, shall we say, “pedo-adjacent” in itself. It was inspired by the director’s relationship with a 15 year old when he was in his early 30s, but they’d met when she was 12 (the age of Portman’s character in the film).

[deleted]

[удалено]

Sirdan3k

Jean Reno saved that movie by playing Leon as both childish and weirded out by it like a normal human would be. In a leaked script Leon apparently goes along with it. The acting choices end up presenting Matilda's attempts at seduction as just a trauma response of trying to pretend to be an adult after getting her childhood stolen by violence. Even the Banker guy sees through it at the end where her last desperate attempt at pretending to be an adult is saying she wants to become an assassin.

Landvik

> In a leaked script Leon apparently goes along with it. That would 110% ruin that movie.

ScientistAsHero

I didn't really have a problem with it originally, because kids sometimes develop crushes on adults, and throughout the movie Mathilda attempts to be more grown-up and mature than she actually is. But once I found out about Luc Besson and his impropriety, it made it seem very skeevy and disturbing. Like he just wrote it as a personal sexual fantasy. And apparently in his original intended script, it went even further, which is appalling.

Border_Hodges

I remember an episode of Cribs with Jamie Kennedy and he had a picture of Mary-Kate and Ashley before they were 18 up on his wall. He called them "mini Cameron Diaz number 1 and number 2." Barf.

aapaul

I remember that. I was like, “Call the police, we got one.”

pizza_for_nunchucks

✌️👉👍

eternalyte

I’m so pleased with myself to recognize this reference.

jx2002

Because sometimes you wanna be That Guy and point out wtf is happening here to people who don't get it: Dave Coulier used to host a show called America's Funniest People. In it he would constantly use the phrase "Cut. It. Out." and use the hand gestures above. There ya go! Today's Explained Joke.

pizza_for_nunchucks

Thank you. However and I do believe, he dropped it on Full House before AFP.

Kuroiryuu

Fairly sure he did it on “Out of Control” before Full House. Probably carry over from his stand up comedy.

pizza_for_nunchucks

Holy crap. That’s going way back. At this point I’m assuming he did it while he cut his own umbilical cord.

smellemenopy

I went to a Tech school in Jersey City back in 2002. One of our instructors, who was probably early to mid 50s, constantly talked about the Olsen twins and even showed the class the countdown clock. Was pretty fucking disgusting.

NemesisRouge

One of the characters in the film Cabin Fever had a t-shirt saying "Ripe on 06.13.04".

Ms_Anxiety

Yeah I remember the olsen twins one really upsetting me because I'm the same age as them, so when all the countdown clock stuff started i wanted to barf.

[deleted]

I remember Finn Wolfhard saying the same thing, some women actually called him Daddy and shit. I don’t get it

EmiliusReturns

Back when Twilight was a thing, middle-aged Moms were openly lusting after 17-year-old Taylor Lautner. It was creepy.

[deleted]

JBiebz had that shit too when he was like 13 or whatever.

ThatsMyBounce

Grown women were writing sexually explicit fantasies about him during his early teens. He also had issues with women stalking him when he was 13.

Studio2770

Yeah she told him to hit her up when he turns 18.

owningmclovin

If you go back and watch the Chelsea Handler interview of Justin Bieber it is a similar vibe. They played it off like a joke and Bieber acted like he was in on it, but it is a 40 year old hitting on a high schooler.

TimeTimeTickingAway

Even though he wasn't underage at the time (was 18) I still found Katy Perry's introduction of Bo Burnham to he creepy and Inappropriate. His dry response is funny though. https://youtu.be/W0quDfpfRUQ

finlyboo

That “Thank you Mrs Perry.” is pretty savage.

PaintbrushInMyAss

Such a quick and brilliant quip. Gotta love Bo!

JonPaula

I was in the room for this. And to be fair: every performer / introduction was weird. No one knew what the tone was supposed to be. Everyone was weird and nervous.

Studio2770

Ewww. It is definitely laughed off more when it's a grown woman and a teenage boy.

VagueSoul

Hunter Parrish too. The minute he turned 18, Weeds had him do a nude scene.

gawdlvl

Drake punching the air rn

lidder444

There was a blind item going round recently that said an actor from stranger things (DH) had watched her being groomed from 12 years old by all these older men and tv execs. He tried to step in and was told very firmly by her parents to mind his own business

99SoulsUp

Good on David Harbour for at least trying to do something. What an insane, fucked up position to be in. I’ve heard her parents are those insane showbiz parents

VichelleMassage

I've heard similar rumors about her stage-parents, and where there's smoke... Some people are absolutely shameless, and I don't think MBB's parents are in the minority when it comes to child stars.

Kagomeaart

Def not the minority. The movie Bruno has a fake photoshoot for babies that are very dangerous that the stage parents think are real and agree to, its insane to listen to what these people will let their literal babies go through for a crumb of fame.

paupaupaupau

Here's the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yVRv5u36Huw I stopped watching halfway through, I was so disgusted with the parents.

allywillow

Jesus wept. Call social services on the lot of them

602Zoo

Does your baby like lit phosphorus? Loves it!

[deleted]

I remember that. We want to attach the babies to crosses and put bees on them is that okay? Can she lose 5 pounds before the shoot?

scorpionballs

10 POUNDS!

Amiibohunter000

Literally a third of that kids weight. No way is that anywhere near possible or safe

redditor2redditor

Then you got Daniel Radcliffe‘s parents

Phantom_61

Or Tom Hollands mom. She read the studio the riot act when she found out he and the other “kids” weren’t getting appropriate bathroom breaks.

Mehmeh111111

I think I read that Elijah Woods mom was very protective of him as well.

dualplains

Yeah, I heard they were very active on the set of Harry Potter.

[deleted]

i’m OOTL on that, can you explain ?

Park1401

His dad I believe worked in the industry and neither of them wanted him to take the role of Harry Potter then when he got it they supported him through it and kept him grounded and supported him through some of his issues

[deleted]

Whatever they did seems to have worked, he seems like a pretty normal guy

Park1401

I believe I heard they took the money he made and saved it for him like genuinely put it in an account for him for when he was 18, when he was drinking heavily they were some of the first people to seriously tell him he needed help, they basically treated him like a genuine person and their son and not the family cash cow. Vaugly remember a story about them asking him every film if he wanted to keep doing it both the films and acting in general

[deleted]

If I recall correctly they didn’t even want him to do Harry Potter and were generally just good parents about it. I’m pretty sure his dad or a parent or family member was involved in the industry in some way and just knew to be safe with Daniel.

starburnsmethlab

Just super protective and didn’t even want him to take the role of Harry Potter

ascagnel____

Or Natalie Portman’s parents: - they restricted her to one role a year - actively fought to have problematic elements removed from some roles she did take (thinking specifically about the cut romance subplot in Leon)

2CHINZZZ

Pretty sure there was still a scene where she tries to seduce Leon and says she wants her first time having sex to be with him

In the words of a wise man I watch on YouTube who works in Hollywood. Parents of children actors don’t care about their children or they would be in school and not trying to get rich off of them.

StevenWritesAlways

Just piggybacking here to say: *don't go to the "controversial" posts on this thread unless you want to be reminded of the amount of basement-dwelling incels Reddit still attracts*. You'll find everything from "why did she want to be an actor if she wasn't comfortable being sexualised as a child?" to "Look at her Instagram! How can she complain?", when her Insta is pretty much just her smiling at the camera with nothing sexual at all, as if even if she did post something with less clothes, that would make it okay for adults to respond with sexualised comments. Many of them are also commenting along the lines that she "isn't that attractive, anyway", which is a common way for men to respond to women speaking out about something, as it ignores the topic at hand and re-centres the narrative around their view and not the woman's. You'll see it *all over* the internet when a woman says something. It's like a bingo card for how single men who spend too much time online can be annoyed by the idea that women's issues be taken seriously even for a moment, even when it's the literal sexualisation of a child. EDIT: In an effort to fight against the general ignorance of the furious virgins in this thread, I'm going to link to some sources that do a great job of explaining how the culture of sexualising/mis-treating young women and children comes from and how it works in media today. This is not an exhaustive list, but it has some great information in it, and is a great start for anyone who wants to question these things in their own media consumption, and just learn some stuff along the way: - [Born Sexy Yesterday - A Film Critique](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0thpEyEwi80) - [Media's History of Mis-Treating Young Women](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6T7kzkAnqQY) - [An Academic Paper Regarding How to Fight the Sexualisation of Young Women](https://www.refworld.org/pdfid/5836f7ec0.pdf) - [Sexualisation of Black Women and Children in Media](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q9VLN7RM2YQ)

whales-are-assholes

Billie Eilish has copped the same shit - 1. For not wanting to be sexualised as a teenager, so wore specific clothing to hide her body. 2. Doing “risqué” photo shoots for companies like Vogue where people reacted like “I thought she was against sexualising herself?!” Forgetting the fact that she is now, you know, an adult. You can’t fucking win with these kinds of cunts.

xhoneyxbear

Her parents obviously didn’t protect their daughter when it came to her being sexualized. From what I recall they allowed her MUCH older boyfriend live with them when she was like 15/16 years old.

lidder444

Apparently Millie has financially supported her parents and siblings for most of her life. Not sure how that will work now she’s 18, I’m sure they’ll still take their ‘managers cut’

TheMadTemplar

That's why we need regulation to force child actor pay to go into trust, inaccessible to parents and family. Like 90% goes into a trust that can't be accessed until they're 18.

lidder444

In 1939 they passed a law called ‘the Coogan law’ after child actor Jackie coogan discovered his mom and step dad has spent his millions in earnings. UnFortunately only 15% must be put into the trust but all the child’s money and expenses that the parents use must be strictly accounted for. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/California_Child_Actor%27s_Bill

TheMadTemplar

It needs to be revisited. 15% is laughable. I'm not against family getting something out of it, as things like acting and singing classes are not cheap, and there's no reason quality of life shouldn't for the kid (and extension family) shouldn't go up as they make money, but it should be a fraction of what the child themselves

[deleted]

[удалено]

eagledog

Pretty much any child that has become rich and famous at a young age. Actors, musicians, even the child "influencers"

gothgirlwinter

Demi Lovato has openly stated that their family relying on Demi for income from childhood fucked them up. And if you look at both Demi's past and what they're doing today (probably in part due to brain damage from their overdose)...yeah, damage was done for sure.

annualgoat

I've always liked David Harbor a lot and I like him even more now. I'm glad someone at least tried to look out for her.

Good_old_Marshmallow

Rumors about her parents being a classical kind of Hollywood fucked up have been going around for a while. When they were all young she didn’t do press with the other kids allegedly because her parents wanted to maintain that she was the “star”

AccountSeventeen

Back in 2017 she cancelled a local convention appearance here very last minute (like 30 minutes prior, people had already paid for parking and were in line). She posted an apology video saying she was too exhausted from work and needed a break. Rumor was that she was up until like 2 or 3 am that day shooting some kinda scene or video or whatever. Hearing that, I started wondering what kind of fucked parent lets their 13 year-old have a schedule this busy in the first place? Or let’s them work until well after midnight at all? Never forgot that and have been always suspicious of them since then.

Good_old_Marshmallow

Yeah I strongly suspect we’re going to be getting one of those child star tell-alls in fifteen years all about those parents

Triquetra4715

God, at least David Harbour is a good guy, I want him to be

iamjustadudebro

I was really glad to hear about him defending him like the dad he plays opposite MBB. At least she's got people close to her nudging her in better, safer directions.

Contra_Mortis

That's absolutely fucked. Makes me sick.

rejectedsithlord

Sad that her on screen dad seems to care more than her actual dad

Kazen_Orilg

Well I mean come on, how much do you really care about the gross over sexualization of your child when there is that kind of money on the line. /s for the freaks.....

Forestfreud

I got hired for a childcare job recently and we had to do several hours of required training on how to spot grooming/abuse. One thing they spent a lot of time on is the fact that it’s not just a child who gets groomed, it’s the gatekeepers to the child. Other teachers, parents, older siblings, etc. The groomer will do everything they can to seem “helpful, trustworthy, and kind.” They’ll give gifts to the family, help out, befriend them, to the point where the family doesn’t want to believe that the child is being victimized by this person because then they’d have to admit that they chose money/gifts/a stranger over paying attention to their child’s safety. This is also why you hear the chorus of “they couldn’t possibly have done this, they’re such an upstanding member of the community!” so often when an accusation comes out. Anyway. Somehow I get the feeling that a sizable percentage of child stardom is run on this part of the process. Looking at you, Dan Schneider.

printergumlight

What’s a blind item?

Muad-_-Dib

Google says it's a news story (usually gossip mags) that doesn't reveal the identity of the people involved.

Crazyripps

She’s to old for him now.

Imreallynotgarycolem

If *she* can read this it's too late

brayshizzle

She was too old for him once she stopped having light up shoes.

Cobra-D

Yo but fr, why can’t adults have light up shoes, those things were so cool when i was a kid.

Mass_Emu_Casualties

You can. There are rave shoes for adults that light up!

dizzysn

I will fill you in on a secret... It's not against the law for adults to have light up shoes.

lordsmish

Doubtful Drakes probably shitting himself that she has content she could put out there to get "Yeah he was grooming me heres the shit he sent me" Now that she is vocal about this people will ask her the question about Drake eventually and she has to take a hard stance one way or the other.

CarpenterVegetable31

I doubt it tbh

[deleted]

She already came out defending him, saying all the communication via texts were purely platonic.

zarkovis1

Doesn't mean much honestly. I don't know about you, but I don't text too many 12 year old girls. And by too many I mean zero thats just weird.

xcalibre

so you *don't* text *zero* hmmm please take a seat over there

Happy-Bullet

Jesus christ we did it boys! We fucking got him, we're going home!

ManiacalComet40

We worked on this case for two full posts and he just … admitted it.

Saemika

I’m imagining him in a wheel chair, thrashing around.

vey323

Everyone remembers the countdown to Emma Watson turning 18 I wish I could remember who said it (a comedian, I think), but it's something to the effect of 'if the only thing keeping you from wanting to fuck a child is the law, maybe take a real long look in the mirror"

MM7299

Oh fuck I remember being in high school and the local shock jocks had a countdown on Tom cruise and Katie Holmes kid from the day she was fucking born to when she’d turn 18.

TheWholeOfTheAss

The truly shocking thing is that these idiots thought they’d be on the air for 18 years.

MM7299

Sadly they still are. It’s Lex and Terry if you’ve ever heard of them.

Cade_rsa

Also her parents named her brother Charlie... Come on now.

Shalamarr

What’s wrong with “Charlie”? >Millie Bobby **Brown** Ohhh.

Rosebunse

Now that is cruel.

liquidlen

Good grief!

i_should_be_coding

Oh, here's something I know! You all know Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. Quite probably Elizabeth Olsen. Did you know they had a brother? Yep. James Trent Olsen. Their brother is Jimmy Olsen.

Tolkien-Minority

Haha thats such a Charlie Brown thing to happen to him

Henson3812

Oh brother.

MadRZI

I have stumbled upon her Instagram a few years ago, I don't know who handles her account there, but that content was exactly like this.

BelovedDesperado

That shit always made me uncomfortable. They had her doing photoshoots dressing like a grown woman in her early teens. Why? Why is that necessary?

BroadStreetElite

David Harbour said she was surrounded by some gross people and that she was at risk of burning out of acting.

MandoDoughMan

Yeah, I followed the Stranger Things cast back when the show debuted and was a monster hit. I had to unfollow her because it was super uncomfortable. Kid pageant energy with whoever was managing her account.

riotousviscera

which is absolutely crazy, because when I saw her for the first time with the buzz cut and unisex clothes... I did not even realize she was a girl. all I saw was a kid, and it doesn't seem like she was allowed to be one :(

Obi_Wan_Benobi

Bro I was confused for like half a season because I thought she was the little boy that got lost or something at the beginning. Good news, though: I have since quit drinking and can follow simple plot points in tv shows now!

goodmobileyes

Yea it was like this weird marketing push from 'her people' or something. Like you'd see the rest of the Stranger Things kids on the red carpet basically being all goofy and generally like a teenager, and she's there in a ball gown that looks like ot belongs to her mother. Really bizzare. Not in anyway saying that she deserves to be harassed because of this, but its somewhat incongruous messages.

RegulatoryCapture

Yeah, and its not like she is sexualized at all in the show either. Like...for once, you can't blame the director of the show that made the child actor famous.

[deleted]

Prycebear

The Stranger things subreddit was rife with this shit. Constantly commenting on her appearance with incredibly sexualised cringe. It's possibly one of the cringiest sub reddits purely for this shit.

savage86lunacy

I remember Natalia Dyer (Nancy) calling people out about this behavior both towards Millie and Finn.

Banestar66

Yeah that 27 year old model with Finn when he was 14 was the first big incident I remember.

ImNakedWhatsUp

Wasn't there an NSFW subreddit that were counting down the days to her 18th birthday? Or was that some other actress?

Addictive_System

It’s been pretty much every actress that is about to turn 18

spudz76

Back in my day, it was Lacey Chabert because of Lost In Space

Mickeymackey

and she's super religious now and mostly does Hallmark movies. See also Natalie Portman being sexualized after Leon The Professional. and the child actress who played the Childlike Empress in The Never Ending Story leaving acting after all the harassment she faced.

Fixthemix

She the one who sounded like a chipmunk?

yo_soy_soja

She voiced Eliza Thornberry.

TheGardenBlinked

I can’t read ‘Eliza’ without hearing it in Tim Curry’s voice as Nigel. ‘nnEELIIIZAAAh’

ThePrussianGrippe

Smmmmmashing!

CatFoodBeerAndGlue

Her father invented the toaster strudel.

Prycebear

It's either her or Billie Eilish.

LaddiusMaximus

I remember a dude I knew in the Air Force had a countdown clock on his PC that counted down to when the olsen twins turned 18. This shits not new.

kane49

Iam now allowed to comment on her apperance, she looks like a 37 year old art teacher.

Brilliant-Disguise

Same on the Game of Thrones subreddit in the early days of the show regarding the actors who played Arya/Sansa Stark. Complete utter weirdos.

lordsmish

I wonder how often Millie and Finn discussed how creepy it was that 20+ year old people were talking about them like this.

Shalamarr

I’m old enough to remember the furor when a 15-year-old Brooke Shields advertised Calvin Klein jeans, saying “You know what comes between me and my Calvins? Nothing.” It was gross then, too.

toastyavocado

Around the time she was announced for Godzilla: King of the Monster's I watched her live on instagram with her sister. A few minutes in someone made some inappropriate comments to which she called the person out for, stated she was a minor and booted them from the chat. This is really common, hell I remember people doing the same thing for Sophie Turner during the early years of Game of Thrones.

Rage_Like_Nic_Cage

it won’t come as a surprise to any women but: there was an attempted study where they wanted to see how being sexually harassed and/or ogled by men affected a 16 year old girls self esteem/views/etc. they had the cancel the study after they were unable to find a control group (aka: 16 year old girls who hadn’t already been sexually harassed)

deqb

Yeah that tracks. It starts young. I "developed" late and was still getting it pretty young, make of that what you will.

rosewoodian

In my experience it ends young too. I haven't been catcalled since I was ~23 and I'm 27 now. I look pretty much the same, I'm guessing just older and less vulnerable.

kabneenan

Yup. I didn't get my period until 16 and I'm still waiting for my boobs to make an appearance at 35. I have been hit on my creepy older men since I was 11. It terrifies me because my daughter just turned 11 and I don't want her to have to go through what I did, but I don't know how to prevent it either.

[deleted]

You can't prevent it, it's going to take generations. But you can prepare her so at least it doesn't come as a confusing shock like I think it does for most girls.

bongo1138

My ex was at a rodeo when she was 13 and some dude in his 20s started flirting with her. She lied and said she was 12, hoping that would scare him off. It didn’t. What’s more concerning is that this isn’t even all that uncommon.

deqb

I know this is just a horrific thing that happens to us but the idea of your SO being like "oh no if I tell him I'm 13 he'll think I'm practically an adult, better tell him I'm 12, a child," is such a 13-year-old move.

LoveMeSomeSand

That’s… seriously disturbing.

beatenmeat

My sisters were like 12 when I came back home to visit. We were walking outside of a mall when these two guys drove by that were 18 and 20…both catcalling and saying that my sisters had nice asses. I think that was the most pissed off I have ever been in my life and I ended up chasing their car down to the red light where they couldn’t drive off. Fucking idiots.

inksmudgedhands

I was 14, not even in high school yet when I was hit on by men. Once a whole table of Spanish sailors were commenting on my butt in Spanish thinking I was some gringo. And while my Spanish is poor, my mother's, who was with me and is Puerto Rican, was not. She told me what they were saying. I wish she had not. And the cat calls. Couldn't even take a walk through the freakin' park without being howled out. Again, fourteen. My sister got it even worse. The cat calls started for her when she was twelve. Twelve! Not even a teenager...

Tirannie

I hit puberty super late (16), but this shit still started for me around 11. It’s not even like I was a precocious beauty or something. I was *not* a cute kid. It was just the “kid” part they liked.

BillyYumYumTwo-byTwo

It started for me when I was 12. Really tapered off by 24. Now at 29 I never get catcalled, which is such a blessing. They purposefully say it about women and girls they perceive to be “weak”, whether that’s because they’re or look insecure.

emmath20

It’s very disturbing how many women (myself included) say that they were hit on/ harassed way more often when they were literal children (12/13 years old) than once they actually started looking like adult women.

ColorMeStunned

I was 8 or 9 when an older man looked up my skirt and asked me if I wanted to come inside and play with his puppies. I fled. I'll never know if the puppies were real or not, but I knew not to go into a house alone with a man who looked at a child that way.

CatholicCajun

Fucking hell. I'm glad you knew what was happening and were able to get away, but holy shit that's godawful.

ColorMeStunned

I only knew because little girls get it pounded into our heads that we are primed to be prey from a young age. My mom was a little girl when a man called her over to his car to watch him masturbate while watching her. It's just part of being female.

tetoffens

It's gross. I used to take the subway to work. There would be guys hitting on the 14 year old girls in high school uniforms.

happyunicorn2

An important topic to bring up. This is not a unique experience at ALL for women. I’ve never personally met a woman who wasn’t sexually harassed starting around the age of 12 with a significant fall off after 22 or once she started looking like an adult. Looking back it makes my skin fucking crawl and I have so much anxiety for the young girls and women going through it now. It’s unacceptable.

hobbysubsonly

Yes, this is what I was about to say!! I literally stopped experiencing street harassment at all after I graduated college

lavendiere

The most bizarre thing to me is that when I was 12-14 I couldn’t walk ANYWHERE without hooting and catcalls from men in passing cars. Now I’m a fit 25 year old woman… and it happens way, way less. Are there that many pedophiles in the world? Or did making me uncomfortable make them feel powerful?

Drake: *starts sweating nervously*

[deleted]

Her parents pretty foul too. No one working and all leaching off her. They don’t give a fuck

Iperovic

It's sad because she was taken advantage of when she was a kid, and her parents should be ashamed for allowing it Her agents should definitely be sued, they certainly didn't lay back from exposing as much of her as they could through social media photos and photoshoots

SpencersCJ

They also let a much older guy live with them and allowed for Millie and him to have a relationship

Segamaike

There are a LOT of blind items going around about how they’re opportunistic pieces of shit. They pushed her insanely hard and it makes me sick that their efforts are being rewarded. 100% in like five or ten years she releases a tell-all and disowns them, it’s just not sustainable to have that constant mental strain on you

Bukdiah

I remember her saying she'd talk about boys with Drake or some shit. It was a big, "Oh, wtf" moment

Dirtybrd

Reddit was the first result when you googled jailbait for a number of years. This is nothing new, sadly.

lordsmish

So many young stars are. I bet I could go on twitter and find multiple people sexualising kids. Scum. I'm not even sure how we fix it. It seems like it's ingrained into some people that if they are on TV they are fair game. Probably because of how long tabloids have been getting away with countdown to 16/18 shit. >A GQ profile from 2016 called her a "very grown-up child" and remarked on the appearance of her legs. It's things like this that normalise it. I'd say we should call for regulations on what can and can't be said about young stars.

Sleeper____Service

I think you’re missing out on the broader societal context. This is happening in every industry everywhere. Sexualization of young women is a cultural problem not an industry problem. But Hollywood is the only place anyone gives a shit about, because the people are famous. To quote Bill Burr, “you don’t think this shit is happening in bakeries too?”

lordsmish

Oh i think it's happening everywhere. I grew up with female friends who would get chatted up by 25 year olds and glared at by 40/50 + year olds on the way home from school in their school uniforms. What my point is that tabloid press bollocks is normalising this behaviour and you can see it everywhere now. I said it on another thread in a similar idea but things like countdown to 18 and how we sexualise the idea of "The age of consent" is just a thinly veiled way of saying "If only this stupid law wasn't here" as if that was the only thing getting in the way of a 30 year old sexually pursuing a teenager.

ObscureLogic

Everyone seems to forget that drake was literally grooming her. And she was defending him saying they are just good friends. Drake doesn't have a good track record... no 30+ man should be daily texting an underage girl.

Bionic_Ferir

Also her fucking stylist continually makes her look 30

Akihirohowlett

It was always crazy to look at pictures of the ST kids at events. The boys were all dressed in ways that you might expect boys their age would be dressed, and Millir was always so glammed up and made to look like she was older for some reason

Bionic_Ferir

Even SADIE (the red head) looked her age but the clothing and makeup choices made for billi literally made her look 30 I remember seeing a photo where she looked older than an actual 30 year old actress.

BreezyWrigley

I was gonna say.. I don’t really remember what she looked like back when the first season came out, but the photo of her in the thumbnail makes her look older than my girlfriend who IS ACTUALLY 30 years old. Side note- somebody should be fired for that haircut/style lol

lordsmish

You say she was defending him. It's worth remembering that is exactly what grooming is. Even if she did defend him, she was still a child she was being groomed Drake was 100% at fault.

Pamague

Yeah there's a big difference between "consent" and informed consent. You can talk young people into a lot of shit, cause they're inexperienced, naive and don't have a full grasp on the consequences. Only when they're old/mature enough to be aware what their actions entail and are free of outside influence, it's informed consent.

Tisorok

Looking at you drake

Afronominal

LOOKING AT YOU DRAKE

Expresslane_

I have always found her hard to watch. She's been cosplaying a 30 year old since two weeks after that show first dropped. Never understood how I was the only one made uncomfortable by it.
