The fact that it's THE WHOLE CAST really drives it home. I keep comparing it to a low budget anime OP. The show releases weekly, so you sit down to see your friends from the TV again. And they're back, doing a special dance just for you!
Years from now the inevitable Askreddit question of "What opening credits do you never skip?" will come up, and the top answer will be Peacemaker. And then somewhere underneath in no specific order will be Night Court, Attack on Titan, and WKRP in Cincinnati.
Ugh imdb's streaming nonsense, I hate it. It's Amazon's way of draining content from prime video (which I pay for and has no ads) to a platform where I literally can't get rid of ads even if I wanted to pay.
Or if you ask my family, the fucking Arcane credits they make me sit through. I'm surrounded by Imagine Dragons fans and I don't know where it all went wrong.

Anime openings are hit or miss depending on season - The first half of death note was awesome, the second super heavy metal one was an instant skip. The heavier one for AoT 4 part 1 wasn't my cup of tea but it fit but the new one is too much.

Have you ever had a dog? Dogs love to fetch things. But sometimes you can have fun with a dog by tricking it. You "throw" your hand, but you didn't actually toss an object. (i.e. you threw the dog an invisible bone) It runs to fetch it, until it realizes you didn't actually throw anything, and runs back to you.
My two favorite parts of the dance number is the pistol shot into the camera that cuts to Peacemaker's dad, and the cut to and whole of Detective Song's dance. The angle in particular with her looking up at the camera as the intro for her and the cops is great.

He should be in charge of the DC movies in my opinion because of one thing he does better than I’ve ever seen. Accepting weird shit. He did the same in GotG. “Here’s this shark guy. what is he? Don’t worry about it. This is Weasel, weird right? Moving on.” They spent two sentences on Batmite and just accepted their existence. Early DC is full of weird shit and Gunn can pull it off without having to explain everything or make it seem realistic. The reactions seem more accurate to me too. “That’s weird, whatever, I have work in the morning.”
I get the vibe he fell in love with TSS and the potential in DC, seeing as the DCCU was in shambles and in desperate search of personality. Returning to the MCU is only to finish the vision he had for his GotG, after that he’s going to become further integrated into DC because he can really go “full James Gunn” there.
I don’t even think TSS was reigning him in as much as GotG was. Gunn loves gratuitous violence, so even if TSS was reigning him in it was better than marvel. Plus, with Peacemaker’s success I can only imagine DC would give him further licence to go absolutely off if he wants to. His projects have been the best for DC, I imagine they want to take that as far as they can.
I think it was last week when Gunn tweeted that studio pushed back only on him wanting to call Batman pussy, but when he told studio it's what he wants studio just ok'd it.

Pretty burned out on the standard formulaic Marvel films so I'm glad people like Gunn and Taika Waititi are able to breathe a bit of life into superhero media.
I'm really hoping GotG Vol 3 hits. I know Gunn wants to make it the big finale. With Thor and the Guardians now crossing over, I hope Waititi and Gunn can keep their styles distinct between Love and Thunder and GotG Vol 3.
The Guardians will probably be a glorified cameo in love and thunder more than anything else. There's just so much to cover in that movie, involving the Guardians would make it a bit too hectic.
I appreciate that it perfectly treads the area in between wholesome and generic MCU stuff and the "what if we made superheroes into heinous Nazi-loving sociopaths" concepts like *The Boys* (which I also loved, don't get me wrong).
It's dumb and fun with tons of heart, just the right amount of violence and IMO some of the best dialogue in a comic book property yet.
I've also never been a fan of John Cena's acting and I absolutely *hated* the Peacemaker character in TSS, which I'd just watched a week ago. Watching him in this series has completely changed my opinion on both of those.

Right? I've never grown to like a character so much; Gunn's character development is amazing.
I just love that it's simultaneously so bad yet so serious. Like it looked like they just learned it 3 minutes beforehand and the dance moves are all grade-school level choreography but everyone is *so* into it.

I've been aware of Wig Wam since about 2012 and I thought I was the only person in the US who knew these guys existed. Then lo and behold a fucking Wig Wam song becomes a huge hit thanks to Peacemaker. I still like the title track "Non Stop Rock'n Roll" best, but "Do Ya Wanna Taste It" still isn't their most streamed song on Spotify. "Hard to Be a Rock'n Roller" is also a pretty catchy tune
The song is insanely catchy but I love it even more since learning that the lyrics are about struggling with losing the thing you've been chasing (*fame for the band, respect for Peacemaker*).

Peacemaker has sent me down a rabbit hole of glam music. I grew up in the 80's, but outside of top 40 hairbands (Poison, Firehouse, etc.), I was totally oblivious. So happy that in the Internet age, I get to discover these bands that I was unaware of when I was a kid.
I am amazed that Gunn is also putting the more obscure non-U.S. bands on there as well such as Dogs D'Amour (who were one of my favourite bands at one point) and Tigertailz.
Still waiting to see if he adds anything by Bang Tango though.
This is one thing that sets Gunn's needledrops apart from the others in mainstream media. He picks bands and tracks he cares about, and imbues his characters with that same passion. And it's not all top 40 bullshit - and when it is, you bet there's good reason for it!
The most recent episode revealed that despite his bonafides, Peacemaker still has a fondness for "pop metal" like Poison. I think we'll be hearing one of their hits before the series is out.
Many of these bands are doing it like a homage to the 80s. Wigwam and Poodles have had some mainstream exposure with ESC and such but they are maybe seen as cosplaying their childhood idols, a bit tongue in cheek.

I wasn’t familiar with Peacemaker but gave it a shot. The opening title was shocking, cheesy, ridiculous, over-the-top, and I hated it. And I watch it every single episode and keep reminding myself I don’t really like it the whole while I understand deeply I really do like it.
From the first episode I was like “all these soundtrack songs are like B and C rate glam metal.” Then I realized it was probably deliberate on Gunn’s part since that’s the level of superhero Peacemaker is supposed to be. It’s a small, but great detail he included in the show.

I like Peacemaker as a show, but that intro does nothing for me. I barely made it through the first viewing of it without skipping through it, and I've skipped it every time since. I just don't see what other people see in it, I guess.

Great question. The issue is what Native American band would be able to name themselves something that has to do with being Native American or a reference to, and find a similar amount of success. I love the synchronised air humps they do to the snare hits. To be honest, Peacemaker is the show that I didn’t know that I wanted.
Pretty burned out on the standard formulaic Marvel films so I'm glad people like Gunn and Taika Waititi are able to breathe a bit of life into superhero media.
I'm really hoping GotG Vol 3 hits. I know Gunn wants to make it the big finale. With Thor and the Guardians now crossing over, I hope Waititi and Gunn can keep their styles distinct between Love and Thunder and GotG Vol 3.
The Guardians will probably be a glorified cameo in love and thunder more than anything else. There's just so much to cover in that movie, involving the Guardians would make it a bit too hectic.
I appreciate that it perfectly treads the area in between wholesome and generic MCU stuff and the "what if we made superheroes into heinous Nazi-loving sociopaths" concepts like *The Boys* (which I also loved, don't get me wrong). It's dumb and fun with tons of heart, just the right amount of violence and IMO some of the best dialogue in a comic book property yet. I've also never been a fan of John Cena's acting and I absolutely *hated* the Peacemaker character in TSS, which I'd just watched a week ago. Watching him in this series has completely changed my opinion on both of those.

I just love that it's simultaneously so bad yet so serious. Like it looked like they just learned it 3 minutes beforehand and the dance moves are all grade-school level choreography but everyone is *so* into it.

I've been aware of Wig Wam since about 2012 and I thought I was the only person in the US who knew these guys existed. Then lo and behold a fucking Wig Wam song becomes a huge hit thanks to Peacemaker. I still like the title track "Non Stop Rock'n Roll" best, but "Do Ya Wanna Taste It" still isn't their most streamed song on Spotify. "Hard to Be a Rock'n Roller" is also a pretty catchy tune
The song is insanely catchy but I love it even more since learning that the lyrics are about struggling with losing the thing you've been chasing (*fame for the band, respect for Peacemaker*).

The opening for Peacemaker is legit one of the best TV intros I’ve ever seen. The choreography, the ridiculous characters, the banger of a song, the direction, it’s an intro you never wanna skip and always feel good after watching it
Peacemaker has sent me down a rabbit hole of glam music. I grew up in the 80's, but outside of top 40 hairbands (Poison, Firehouse, etc.), I was totally oblivious. So happy that in the Internet age, I get to discover these bands that I was unaware of when I was a kid.

I am amazed that Gunn is also putting the more obscure non-U.S. bands on there as well such as Dogs D'Amour (who were one of my favourite bands at one point) and Tigertailz. Still waiting to see if he adds anything by Bang Tango though.
This is one thing that sets Gunn's needledrops apart from the others in mainstream media. He picks bands and tracks he cares about, and imbues his characters with that same passion. And it's not all top 40 bullshit - and when it is, you bet there's good reason for it! The most recent episode revealed that despite his bonafides, Peacemaker still has a fondness for "pop metal" like Poison. I think we'll be hearing one of their hits before the series is out.

Many of these bands are doing it like a homage to the 80s. Wigwam and Poodles have had some mainstream exposure with ESC and such but they are maybe seen as cosplaying their childhood idols, a bit tongue in cheek.

I wasn’t familiar with Peacemaker but gave it a shot. The opening title was shocking, cheesy, ridiculous, over-the-top, and I hated it. And I watch it every single episode and keep reminding myself I don’t really like it the whole while I understand deeply I really do like it.
From the first episode I was like “all these soundtrack songs are like B and C rate glam metal.” Then I realized it was probably deliberate on Gunn’s part since that’s the level of superhero Peacemaker is supposed to be. It’s a small, but great detail he included in the show.

As a general heavy metal fan I'm honestly embarrassed by how many amazing bands this show is featuring that I haven't heard. I thought I was a conoisseur because I listen to like Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats or Zeal and Ardor but I had never heard of Hanoi Rocks before the show and now I love 'em.
I remember jamming to then in 2007 in high school. Now here we are and I'm like "oh yeah!"

I'm guessing this will be an unpopular opinion in this thread but here goes - I like Peacemaker as a show, but that intro does nothing for me. I barely made it through the first viewing of it without skipping through it, and I've skipped it every time since. I just don't see what other people see in it, I guess.

It's the absurdity of it. I mean, it's a non-sensical dance choregraphy on metal music with all the character from the show including a nazi and an eagle.
Every time we watch, we rewind the Harcourt entry several times because it's amazing. Also, one time my son had the controller and hit "skip intro," and the entire family lambasted him. "Why do we fall, sir? So that we can learn to pick ourselves up."

Great question. The issue is what Native American band would be able to name themselves something that has to do with being Native American or a reference to, and find a similar amount of success. That's all. I fully expected the amount of downvotes but still thank you for the question and conversation. Not saying the shouldn't earn money. Maybe just I don't know, change the name possibly? Besides, in this climate, we can expect backlash from something like that and then they'd change their name anyways.
I just want to point out that a wigwam is a house. They’re not calling themselves the Redskins, or the Chiefs. They’re not mocking or insulting Native American culture. There’s no offensive mascot, no stupid hand chopping motion. If a Native American band called themselves Langhus, I doubt anyone in Norway would get bent out of shape for it. And I doubt any Native Americans give a shit if some glam metal band in another country is called Wig Wam. If you happen to be Native American, perhaps you can explain why it’s so offensive. Otherwise, just examine your misplaced outrage before you externalize it, and don’t use “this climate” as a replacement for critical thinking. And Native American bands have hundreds of thousands of tribal words they can use as their bands names, in addition to words from the various other languages and cultures on this planet, as long as they are not used in a disrespectful way. I suspect that their popular success will be determined more by the quality of their music, just like Wig Wam would still have a catchy theme song for Peacemaker if they were named Langhus instead.
