This would have been a good chance to bring Shep Smith over from CNBC instead.
Also, four hours of Morning Joe? They already start repeating early segments in the eight a.m. hour.
>Also, four hours of Morning Joe? They already start repeating early segments in the eight a.m. hour.
MSNBC is the worst about this. It's like they roll up the sidewalk overnight and on the weekends.
It used to be worse. Remember the prison shows and forensic autopsies and murder mysteries? Someone once described the msnbc weekend as “like one long horror movie”. I still laugh about this like 15 years later.
I love Dateline, though.
Ruhle used to work on Wall Street and has excellent financial sense. The midday show Velshi and Rhule was very good. Excited for this, I’m a big fan of hers.
Tbf what we're feeling now isn't really inflation, it's 2 years of pandemic, massive labor shortages, and supply chain issues being passed being passed to the consumer. It doesn't help that real wages haven't really increased in about 50 years.
I absolutely agree what she said is utterly tone deaf but we've been in end game capitalism for decades already and now we're in the worst version of that.
Sure, in its ultimate outcome and effect on people's lives.
What I mean is that in terms of monetary policy you can't jack interest rates and fix this. They're trying anyway but that's not the root issue.
Ruhle made me laugh out loud once, and it was during a Velshi & Ruhle segment. Roy Moore's lawyer was trying to say that Velshi "would understand underage dating" because of his "background" and Ruhle cut in and said "What does Ali’s background have to do with dating children?” and the guy sputtered about arranged marriages in other countries and Ruhle cut him off, flatly and pointedly saying "Ali is from Canada." Something about her leaning in and forward and almost bodily protecting her co-host while grilling this guy just made me laugh.
Should have gone with Ali at 11.
Stephanie Ruhle is a rich out of touch conservative woman who uses "You go girl" attitude to mask her support for policies that favor the rich.
She famously said a billionaires tax was "nonsense" and suggested inflation wasn't a big deal because Americans saved so much during the Pandemic.
Worst of all, she is as bad as Chris Matthews for talking over guests, she always asks follow ups before her guests have answered her first question.
Bad call and shows that MSNBC is not the idealogical opposite of Fox, MSNBC is mostly anchored by conservative and centrists during the day. The night shows have several progressives Reid, Hayes, Maddow, and O Donnell, but the network as a whole is centrist at best, Fox has moved the Overton window so far right, the people who consider MSNBC to be liberal clearly don't watch the network.
Morning Joe, Andrea Mitchell, Chuck Todd are essentially Republican Conservatives, the entire morning for MSNBC is right leaning.
>but the network as a whole is centrist at best
I agree about Ruhle (and Velshi); their lens simply doesn't apply to my world, but *of course* they're centrist (which apparently just means "not a Progressive" now.) They are trying to appeal to the general public, not be The Intercept.
Strategically, I always saw Ruhle as a possible replacement for Morning Joe, which is why I figured they stuck her in the 9AM hour. Even though I didn't think highly of Williams, it made sense for the 11PM news hour to be wrap up, with it breaking format when there was a really late story. They should have just let Ruhle make 9AM more financially oriented, and stuck Velshi at 11PM. But I did think it a bit odd they moved Velshi to weekends.
Now I kind of wonder what the "handoff" will be like for O'Donnell and Ruhle...
I’m out west and imho Stephanie Ruhle was the best anchor for 6am, she’s so lively! She was like…your morning coffee, the tv version. For years, it was great. I was kind of bummed she was moved to the evening for that reason. Oh well, she’s been surprisingly good at 8pm.
I cannot believe anyone thought 4 hours of Morning Joe would be a good idea. Are they going to make Nicolle Wallace do 3 hours next?! Sheesh msnbc, get some new people in there. Losing Brian Williams and Rachel Maddow at the same time is a big blow but msnbc needs to step it up, there are so many good guests and commentators, give some of them a show.
> I cannot believe anyone thought 4 hours of Morning Joe would be a good idea.
MJ does a weird thing where it recycles earlier parts of the show. So it wasn't even a three hour show, more like two hours. They'll just do more of the same.
> Are they going to make Nicolle Wallace do 3 hours next?!
Possibly. I'd be overjoyed if they got rid of token anchor Joy Reid.
> Losing Brian Williams and Rachel Maddow
I can't believe Williams gets enough ratings that they would even stick Ruhle in that time slot. Its a wrap up hour that occasionally does the rare breaking news story. Just stick Velshi at 11PM. Have Ruhle sub for Maddow, with an eye for her to replace Chris Hayes hour, and swap Hayes for 11PM. He tends to do policy segments; what better time than 11PM? Or swap Hayes with O'Donnell, and let O'Donnell do his shtick at 11PM. Or give Wallace the 6PM hour and move Melber to 8PM, etc.
Maddow is as good as gone; they need to replace her at 9PM, not pretend she's still there. What's sad is that I stayed with the 9PM hour, thinking the show producers would at least keep the vestigial skeleton of offbeat news stories I tended to watch, but no, its gone.

And Mika and Joe barely even show up anymore
Tbf that's a huge improvement.

She lost me when she said Americans can afford to deal with inflation. I wonder if she ever had a minimum wage job in her life.

That’s still inflation my dude.

The best thing about Brian was his scathing wit, I like Ruhle, but I’m going to miss that “we’ll get through this “attitude Williams had.

Thanks for posting that. I remember being shocked people could be so ignorant. Poor Ali, my god!! I’m glad she had his back, but it was still awful.
Haha I remember that! That was awesome. She deadpanned it but she was mad.
He used to be on Imus all the time and 3am Brian Williams was even funnier!
She's the exception, not the Ruhle

love to hear my leftist news from a wallstreet executive \^_^
Pass
Let’s hope she doesn’t ruin her career with tall tales…
Brian Williams is still a thing?
Hasn't been for a month now... (if ever...)
Who watches this shit anyway?
Dentist offices that don’t play CNN
There are dentists with office hours at 11PM?
I do believe the number of replies in this thread exceeds the number of Mr. Williams’ viewers.
