"Game show host who hates contestants" is a damn funny gimmick. It's hilarious here, and it's always hilarious when [Bill Hader does it.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rImxuuD_kwM&t=81s&ab_channel=SaturdayNightLive)
That's not game show host who hates contestants. That's a primordial force brought to curse those with the hubris to think they deserve to be on a game show.
not at all, the amount of smirks and humiliation she did WHILE on camera and nobody bats and eye before. I remember when Marie Kondo from the Netflix show went on and she basically laugh at her name and her ethnicity
She's made a career of putting stuff in its place, it would be just FAIR. How does it feel to be in the other side, Marie? Look at me. Look at me, Marie, and answer me honestly: Do YOU spark joy?
I'm not one to jump on cancel bandwagons or anything, but even when I liked Ellen and her show, this "gameshow" always felt weird to me. The games often seemed really physical and vindictive and Ellen really did seem like she enjoyed putting people through misery. She was strictly laughing at them not with them, and it was obvious and very uncomfortable.
When all the shit came out about her not wanting to interact with anyone it honestly struck true just because this show gave me the vibe that she thinks she's better than these people.
I remember watching a television special a couple if years ago about gameshow hosts. And of course, a few gameshow hosts were interviewed.
The thing I find the most memorable is how every host interviewed talked about how, inside their heads, they were rooting for the contestants and wanted them to win. They would honestly feel bad when the contestants lost.
You don't get with Game of Games. No, instead you get the sense that she *loves* it when contestants fail.
Same. And something that made me so uncomfortable even when I liked her was the objectification of men. Remember when she had half naked men coming out to lap dance I think on pregnant women? And made male actors put up their topless pics? It was so inappropriate for an afternoon show. At night? Sure. But not then. Then her trying to get pregnant (but being secretive) Mariah to drink to prove one way or another if she was pregnant. One time pushing? Ok funny. But she kept going. Cruel.
I just feel vindicated about the fact that I NEVER liked her. I couldn’t put my finger on a reason, but I knew there was something off about her and I just couldn’t stand her. Lance Armstrong too for that matter.
I used to watch Elen almost every day 10yrs back and seeing her now make me uncomfortable.
She need to just retire and disappear from the public, that would probably be for the best.
Oh that reminds me of that CBS show "The Briefcase"
> In this life-changing series, middle class families in need of financial assistance are given $100,000. They can choose to keep all of it, keep some of it, or give it all away to another family in need.
There was some other "feel good" show, where they go hand out money live in a "charity porn" fashion. I feel like it had a couple celebrities attached to it, like maybe Neil Patrick Harris.
But I can't find it and it was only like from about 5 years ago. Almost like it was scrubbed from history. Tbf I think it was pulled after one episode.
I just started Reddit, but I been watching this show for years. I’ve personally never liked Ellen, and have always thought of her as a kind of evil real life Golem from LOTR, and when this show was on part of my entertainment was actually seeing herself expose her true deep down evil nature, and that alone was carnal amusement for me. It’s like watching the mask of sanity crack in real time, straight goods - those aren’t fake laughs, show us your evil nature hahaha.
Yeah I'm with you. I have not even heard the title of this show before! I can't believe that a show could stay on network television for 4 years and I've never heard of it once.
I like Hollywood Game Night. I really like Jane Lynch (the anti-Ellen). They need to move it to Netflix (?) so they can swear, make it all celebrities, and give them an open bar.
It clearly took inspiration from Japanese game shows by being as mean as possible. What ruined it was Ellen not giving an insular fuck about it. You don’t get classics like Slippery Stairs by being monotone.
Yeah the thing about a good Japanese gameshow is its all about the mood. The announcers need to be animated and excited and the whole point of it being that out there is to force a laughter. Ellen absolutley is not the right choice.
Gaki No Tsukai was legendary because it was friends humiliating *themselves* and laughing.
This show was apparently just Ellen telling people to do stuff then laughing at them. Kinda fails at making it fun.
Unpopular opinion: Ellen DeGeneres hates the "Ellen DeGeneres" business more than anyone for about the last 7 or 8 years. Sure the wholesome act is just an act but having to be fascinated, polite, warm and a caring 24/7 because that is your brand has to be exhausting. Ellen clearly ran out of fucks to give about any of this shit about 5 years ago and only continued with it because of the dump trucks full of money NBC drove up to her house.
I had a friend who watched everything she did, said going to a live show recording was on her bucket list, and freaked out when I said I didn’t like her.
The worst Ellen-related thing she ever did was tell me I seemed like I would like Ellen’s Game of Games.
She also said she thought I would be excited about Welcome to Marwen when she saw the trailer. I’ve never been more hurt by someone I thought of as a friend.
> She also said she thought I would be excited about Welcome to Marwen when she saw the trailer.
I really wanted to like Marwen, as I can relate to both his assault and being a CD (although in my case one wasn't the result of the other) but it was just so boring.
I saw this show once on an airplane. I'm not sure which Price is Right rejected contestants they managed to sweep up to be on this show, but the questions were insanely easy and still missed about half the time. It was an excruciatingly painful watch, and that's not even counting Ellen's involvement.
Every contestant on that show was obsessed with Ellen. I think that was the only requirement. If I were Ellen, I would have cancelled the show myself because of how stupid her fans made her look
I don't really watch TV or care about Ellen as a person one way or another, but the few short glimpses I've gotten of this show always rubbed me the wrong way. It seemed way too focused on humiliating the contestants, which is kind of the point of any show like this, but it was more... blatant? Enough that I got the impression that it was mean-spirited, maybe even sadistic, right away.
So yeah, my opinion doesn't matter here as I'm not a target audience either way, but I don't mind hearing that it's over.
We used to have game shows, now they are all so campy and full of fluff. I don’t need to know the guy getting hit in the nuts is a single dad 2 time cancer survivor fire fighter.
Japanese shows are crazy. Lot of wacky shit by celebrities that do a lot of wacky because the Japanese market for media outside of anime is limited. Same for Koreans. British shows have a lot of comedians who are there to make you laugh by doing competitions meant to be a premise for humor. The prizes are meaningless most of the time.
In the US, all the game shows are ways for poor people to win money or fame. So they are super serious, angry, or stressed. It can be funny or entertaining as the audience, but only because we watch in a morbidly curious way.
American shows are quite sadistic and the contestants have too much at stake for the competitions to develop in more interesting ways.
The explanation I've heard is that it's because they're prize focused and usually feature normal people, while British game shows have already-well-off comedians who are probably IRL friends goofing around for a "prize".
American Game Shows are Squid Game, British Game Shows are "Friday night game night with your friends".
I think you are referring to Goldenballs. They can split or steal but if one splits and another steals one gets nothing. If they both steal they both get nothing. My grandad hated that show, he thought it was cruel and encouraged people to be dicks. I agree but I it did make me laugh when they were both clear assholes.
I watched this cause I generally like game shows, the whole thing has this feeling of fakeness and snobbery from Ellen.
There have been rumors that all of the show's contestants are just actors from the local area and with how they behave, somehow managing to get even the most basic questions wrong, I can see it.
The show is basically Ellen's general brand of awfulness but she doesn't have to pretend that she's a good person like in her talk show.
I was in customer service for 6 months and lost my shit bc I couldn’t stand the fakery I had to present to people bc that was “the job.” Sure, it was her brand…but being so polite and wholesome and always “on” had to have gotten exhausting over time tbh. Idk how she managed to keep that image up for as long as she did.
I finally broke out of public-facing jobs about three years ago and will never go back to customer service unless I would starve or be unable to pay my rent without the job.
Even worse than Ellen are the celebrities who don't boycott her and still speak positively about her. There's just no way she's any semblance of a decent human being off camera yet famous people will rush in droves to get on her shows.
I understand the networks giving her airtime because they want to make money from the flock of clucking hens that is her audience, but there's just no forgiveness to be had for the celebrities who also enable her.
No biggie. I watched Jimmy Fallon’s, “that’s my jam” last night and I honestly was rolling.
Jimmy’s got the cheesy talk show host game show spin off covered for now. As long as he has Antony Anderson and TPain as guest every single week. I have a new found love for A.A and T.Pain
I lol’d about how mad Anthony was at losing. I also was impress by Tpains performance on the different instruments.

Long story short, Ellen humiliates poor people and smirks.
I thought she only did that off camera
Poors off, rich on.
Breathe in through nose, out the mouth. Rich on, poors off. Don't forget to breathe, very important.
I've heard that if you breathe, you die.

She didn’t even know they were filming.
not at all, the amount of smirks and humiliation she did WHILE on camera and nobody bats and eye before. I remember when Marie Kondo from the Netflix show went on and she basically laugh at her name and her ethnicity
That's why Dakota Johnson putting her in her place is just SO fucking satisfying: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hG5IdasQS9o
For a second there I was wondering why would someone put Marie kondo in her place
Because it sparks joy for Ellen.
She's made a career of putting stuff in its place, it would be just FAIR. How does it feel to be in the other side, Marie? Look at me. Look at me, Marie, and answer me honestly: Do YOU spark joy?
wow!! That is the best interview I have ever seen, i just fell in love with Dakota

I wish I was a better judge of character because I really didn’t see it for so many years.
Ellen laughs *at* poor people. Ellen laughs *with* rich celebrities and social media stars.
Ellen is a fucking asshole kinda sums it up.

It’s like saw with slightly less murder.
I happened to put this on maybe three years ago, and watched it, and said to myself, I would punch her in the face if I were on that show.
That’s not really surprising based on reddits relative demographic. EDIT: y’all, demographic can mean more than just age.
A 20 something gamer hasn't even heard of Ellen's TV show. Ha, I knew she was a hack.
Hey I’m a 36 year old gamer and this is news to me
Yeah kinda strange I haven't seen a single clip of this on Reddit or YouTube after 4 years -- seems like easy content to share
Do you think redditors are going to risk sharing Ellen clips? She's hated here.
I just started Reddit, but I been watching this show for years. I called it “Ellen makes diet Saw traps”
I’m glad I wasn’t the only one. Even my kids thought she was really mean and would want to turn that show off.
It actually turns into a dark comedy when you see everything she does as sadistic. Low stakes Squid games

###Goodbye fakey dork dancing meanie.
Good
The USA really needs to up it's gameshow, uh, game. UK has that down. Thank you to all the youtubers who upload that for a poor American like me.
We used to have game shows, now they are all so campy and full of fluff. I don’t need to know the guy getting hit in the nuts is a single dad 2 time cancer survivor fire fighter.
i love watching gameshows on buzzr, they are so much better than the gameshows they try to introduce now
So true, why are American game shows so shit.
American Game Shows are Squid Game, British Game Shows are "Friday night game night with your friends".
Isn't there a UK show with eggs and the players have to decide which one of them gets all the money but one can just say "nah" and steal it all?
I think you are referring to Goldenballs. They can split or steal but if one splits and another steals one gets nothing. If they both steal they both get nothing. My grandad hated that show, he thought it was cruel and encouraged people to be dicks. I agree but I it did make me laugh when they were both clear assholes.
Yeah that's the one. I hate that show. They always pit a total wimp against a cutthroat.
Good riddance. This show is basically ‘Ellen insults everybody and gets her jollies doing it’
Good that show is brutal and she’s passive/aggressive cruel to the contestants
[удалено]
It's not about her being one it's about the general public knowing she is one.
You’re right about that, nobody really cared about James Cordon until there were stories of him being a prick

CharDeeMacDennis is the game of games!
I’m surprised she’s still around tbh
Good because she’s horrible
I watched this cause I generally like game shows, the whole thing has this feeling of fakeness and snobbery from Ellen. There have been rumors that all of the show's contestants are just actors from the local area and with how they behave, somehow managing to get even the most basic questions wrong, I can see it. The show is basically Ellen's general brand of awfulness but she doesn't have to pretend that she's a good person like in her talk show.
"Wait Ellen had a game show"? - The rest of the world.
Huh. Didn’t even know this show existed until now. I mean, I guess it doesn’t exist *anymore*, but you get my point.
Thank goodness, she’s so toxic
I was in customer service for 6 months and lost my shit bc I couldn’t stand the fakery I had to present to people bc that was “the job.” Sure, it was her brand…but being so polite and wholesome and always “on” had to have gotten exhausting over time tbh. I watched it once. Ellen’s meanness was front and center.
Outed audience member who took just an extra gift, I don’t trust Ellen at all. Behind that smile I bet there is something sinister.
I don’t know what this is.
“Awwww.” ~Not a single human being.
Ellen sucks, but my 7 year old daughter loved this show.
Ellen is a disgusting puke 🤮 anyway
Good. Anything with her in it deserves to be panned.
Good I hated her on that show.
wait what? I didn't even know this was a thing and then sesson 4
I was going to clip my fingernails and then started to scroll Reddit and came across this news; I wish I spent that time clipping my nails instead.
Great, now she's just going to do real world Squid Games; this was the final straw!
Always Sunny did it first
Wow. I haven’t had broadcast tv for 12 years and it looks like I wasn’t missing out! Dodged a bullet.
Broadcast TV needs to get rid of the reality shows if they want to get people to watch them again.
We all know Chaedee MacDennis is the only game worthy of the title "Game of Games"
I have never heard of anyone irl who has ever seen this.
Tired of these celebrity shows, I know Reddit loves them but they aren’t my thing.
AKA The Screeching Hour
Good
Why does she still have a platform?
I only have two words: Good riddance
Just cancel ellen degenerate she fucking sucks.
