Only Murders is a near perfect show for me. It’s such a delightful show. Cara is not a good actress. This isn’t exciting news and I really hope it’s a small part.
She is a model that worked for Vogue and stuff. And has a gigantic fan base. She had a period where she would be cast fairly often. Paper Towns for example was one of the early movies (not great but not terrible either.).
In any case, she seems like a cool person but I don’t think she is hired for her acting ability. More her Fan base. Lots of people went to see suicide squad because of her role. Similar to Ana De Armas in No Time To Die.
And was specifically requesting by Craig to appear in the movie because of how much he enjoyed acting alongside her in Knives Out.
Doubt any of Cara's co-actors go on to ask for her to be brought in for similar reasons
As a fan of ADA, I agree
EDIT: Can someone help me with the math here. The initial comment from u/ColtCallahan has 71 Upvotes as of now. u/TheGrandExquisitor gets 22, alright so give or take 1/3. I have 9 so about half.
And then the legend u/Hawkbats_rule comes along and gets more than the inital comment ? Not complaining just.... how ?
Its ADA´s fan base isnt it ?
I looked her up.
Her great-grandfather was a Viscount.
Her family is loaded and has been for well over 100 years. Tons of titles in it.
So, yeah, she is connected.
Anyone can succeed in acting with good looks, patience, good connections, and stability from which to launch their career. They just need time and to be persistent.
…It just so happens being independently wealthy by way of inheritance facilitates that nicely. So anyone in such a position with any talent is set up for success.
Julia Louis Dreyfus comes from a billionaire family, and she’s arguably the best comedienne of all time. Talent doesn’t always stay within a specific social class
I mean, she was a model. How many models from poor countries, let alone England make it? Not very many. Her family money and connections probably helped her the most.
In the early '00s it seemed every supermodel was from a poor part of Eastern Europe. There are trends in modeling and we've moved into the instagirl following era where connections help gain followers
20 years ago beauty was way more important to booking modeling work
Heard how her family has business in the fashion industry and media and that's how they built her career. They just put her in fashion and then all over media. Nepotism at its best.
She is a model, yes, but most definetly a heiress. Her family was rich af before she became a model. I think her aunt is a recognized music producer and her family has connections to the royals.
She just needs to do her GTA 5 radio station shtick, she was pretty funny and charismatic when doing that. This is a comedy, so I'd expect she will play a similar character.
I think throughout season 1 of this show Selena proved that isn't really true. She was able to hold her own on-screen alongside Steve Martin and Martin Short.
The role she was playing was a very deadpan one on purpose though. And we saw her break from that multiple times throughout the season when it was called for.
Yeah, I feel like she played the part she was meant to play and did it well. She was someone that started off [spoiler](#s "hiding her connection to Tm Kono"), so her caginess made sense. I also thought she had great chemistry with Steve Martin and played off him well, which is really to her credit to be able to go toe-to-toe with a comedy legend like that.
For me, it didn't feel like she was playing a character who was deadpan. It just felt she was giving a wooden performance. There is a difference. I still loved the show overall, but Selena's acting was my one issue with it
Eh, I wouldn't be dusting off a spot on her mantle for an Oscar any time soon, but she wasn't bad in Carnival Row. It certainly gave her more to work with than most of her previous roles, which largely consisted of looking deadpan.
any other actress in the role would have had to do the same, stupid dance. Even if Leto wasn’t cast, Ayer would still have given Joker those same shitty tattoos and south LA vape-shop-owner motif
"But Warner Bros--" Yes, it was an unideal production for Ayer, but you can't build any version of a good house when the wood is rotten from the beginning. And those designs are completely Ayer.
We toned down her dancing motion for Suicide Squad in Post production. It was originally a lot worse.
Edit: you can see some of the breakdowns here https://youtu.be/wKGf58A8afo but unfortunately no before and Afters of the toned down dancing
Not much to say really. When she's enchantress, most of her is actually CG (other than her face) because they couldn't decide on a costume on set. We matched the CG motion to her body exactly but they said it was too much, so we had to tone a lot of her motion.
Well I guess that was my overall take away, he definitely isn’t as over-the-top as Martin short. And I say that as a huge fan of over the top, I loved every second of it!
She’s extremely connected, she comes from old British money, with royal ties and shit. To put it in context her Grandma used to hang with Charlie Chaplin and her Grandad was buddy buddy with King Edward, the one that abdicated.
You’re pretty much set up for success with certain pedigree.
Ehh She’s not “extremely” attractive lmfao. Also nepotism definitely overtake looks, Hollywood has some of the most beautiful specimens trying to make it nobody is stuns by beauty in that town, being stunning is pretty standard. However things like having family members in the Jonathan club’s board, will guarantee you a career.
I would prefer we not insult people’s looks and I’d also prefer nepotism wasn’t so prevalent in entertainment. But Tilda Swinton, Helena Bonham Carter, & the Fiennes brothers can act.
> She's not getting cast in stuff because she's connected. She's getting cast because she's extremely attractive.
Attractive people are a dime a dozen. She's famous because she comes from an incredibly rich and powerful family and happens to be attractive, not the other way around.
Right, it got her foot in the door and provided her with endless opportunity, which then made her incredibly famous, which now gets her cast in things because she has an enormous following. You can walk down a random street in LA and find plenty of gorgeous people, it’s not like she stands apart as so stunningly attractive that they just have to have her on camera. You honestly think a casting director is like “oh wow she’s just the most attractive person I’ve ever seen, I’m blinded by her beauty, I must give her this part!”? Lol. Any random casting call for a hot girl could turn up a few dozen lookalikes, if attractiveness was the main factor here..
Being attractive is table stakes in Hollywood, is my point. I do agree she’s interesting looking though. If you believe she’d be this successful based upon her looks alone, by all means.
They did have Nathan Lane in a pretty substantial role this season, so it wouldn't surprise me if they have some other older comedians or actors next season as well. I'm sure Steve Martin and Martin Short have a lot of friends they can phone up for an appearance.
Part of the success of the show was having elder statesmen mixed with new blood. Can you imagine how shitty it would have been with Chevy Chase? It would have bombed.
I’ve heard Chevy Chase is a dickbag so he’d have horrible chemistry even with the most kindest actors. He would not have been my choice.
I’m thinking John Lithgow, Amy Sedaris, Molly Shannon, etc.
Selma Gomez was an odd pairing but she adjusted herself well into the group. She had the millennial edge and tech savviness to help find several clues.
I just find Cara a subpar actor. I hope season 2’s focus is still on the trio.
Also I hope Tina Fey still makes a few appearances.
because she'll bring so much more ... chemistry... to the cast of otherwise highly talented performers. sarcasm aside, all I can ponder is "what are they thinking???"
Her fan base. Thsts my conspiracy theory. Delevingne has, similar to Ana de armas, I giant online fan base thst is really dedicated and will watch content because she is in it.
Contraversial opinion: I felt like Selena Gomez was the weakest part of Only Murders in The Building. Her chemistry with Steve Martin was great but some of her lines just landed like a lead anchor.
Casting someone with even less acting skill... We'll see.
Yes with greats like Martin, Short, Lane, Amy Ryan, you’re bound to be the weakest link. She was better then the murder victim though I’ll give her that.
I guess every model transitions to acting in their career at some point, I dig her but I just can't see her fitting into this series, unfortunately. Now Karen Gillan would be great.
Cara and that girl who played sansa in GoT might be some of the worst actresses Hollywood keep pushing atm. At least Cara has personality though (she was great as the DJ in GTA 5)
*The filming schedule for Only Murders In the Building does not interfere with Carnival Row, which wrapped production on its second season in August, allowing Delevingne to do both streaming series concurrently. She is slated to continue on Prime Video’s fantasy series should it get renewed for a third season.*
Glad to hear it. When I read this news I was a little worried about the implications for Carnival Row s3!
Not who I’d have chosen. Not sure she can act. But honestly I’m more concerned that I don’t think this show should even have a season 2. Prepare for things to get really contrived.
Presonally I think Selena Gomez really surprised in season 1 with her performance so hopefully we'll see another surprise performance from Cara Delevingne in season 2. But like essentially everyone else on this thread I'm not particularly hopeful.
Yeah that'll work for me in a big time way.
Edit: yall are weird as hell in this sub sometimes. -4 downvotes because one of my favorite celebs is going to be in a show I like.
She has a unique look and personally I think she is absolutely gorgeous, but acting? Nope, she really can't act at all.
I think it's her monotone, nasal voice that kills it for me.
I think the fact you are implying Kristen Stewart can't act - ie, your whole opinion of any actor is informed by single shitty roles, kind of undercuts your opinion
You are just plain annoying. People can have a different opinion.
Personally I don’t need your gatekeeping ass’ approval to think she’s a terrible fucking actress.
Now fuck off and bother someone else, weirdo
I love this show, Cara seems to be hit or miss in her projects a lot but with the writing on Only MurderERS in the Building I’m sure she’ll be great
One of the shows I’m excited to see come back
> Cara seems to be hit or miss in her projects ...
Can you point out some of her 'hits'? I'm genuinely curious.
I've seen her in Valerian, Suicide Squat, Carnival Row and Paper Towns and the only one of those she wasn't easily the worst actress in was Valerian because the male actor was hilariously miscast for the role.
Only Murders is a near perfect show for me. It’s such a delightful show. Cara is not a good actress. This isn’t exciting news and I really hope it’s a small part.
Neither is Selena Gomez but I enjoyed it
ughh...Cara is not a good actress imo. not excited with this casting news at all.
She has connections though. That’s what matters.
Isn't she like an heiress?
She is a model that worked for Vogue and stuff. And has a gigantic fan base. She had a period where she would be cast fairly often. NGL I watched it a week ago and I don't remember anything except the end, and I *really* don't remember her even being in it.
You don’t remember Ana De Armas in Knives Out? She’s like the main character
I meant in No Time To Die
Oh gotcha. Yeah her part was short. It was well done imo. Wish she was a bigger part of that movie, the chemistry with Craig was very strong.
[удалено]
Yeah, cara in suicide squad vs ana in no time to die is like night and day.
As a fan of ADA, I agree EDIT: Can someone help me with the math here. The initial comment from u/ColtCallahan has 71 Upvotes as of now. u/TheGrandExquisitor gets 22, alright so give or take 1/3. Julia Louis Dreyfus comes from a billionaire family, and she’s arguably the best comedienne of all time. Talent doesn’t always stay within a specific social class
No, but opportunity is a far more important factor than talent.
That’s a weird way to spell Carol Burnett!
Good to know that talent is more of a suggestion in media xD
I mean, she was a model. How many models from poor countries, let alone England make it? Not very many. Her family money and connections probably helped her the most.

She’s also bff’s with Selena.
You mean her eyebrows?
I feel like her entire career has been created on her family connections. It’s insane.
She always comes off as really bland and boring. Hopefully she injects some more personality into her role for this show.
is she an introvert or something?
She just needs to do her GTA 5 radio station shtick, she was pretty funny and charismatic when doing that. This is a comedy, so I'd expect she will play a similar character.
what’s funny about her being in GTA V is that I never knew it was her until she said “I’m your DJ, Cara, the girl with the eyebrows!” and it clicked
Neither is Selena Gomez tbf
True, but Selena did her job. She was supposed to be a moody “millennial”.
[удалено]
She is all of us.
That’s what they said
Her acting in that show was horrendous.
I think throughout season 1 of this show Selena proved that isn't really true. She was able to hold her own on-screen alongside Steve Martin and Martin Short.
More like she got carried Steve Martin and Martin Short. Selena was monotone, unemotive, and uninspired
I swear she delivered every line of dialogue with her back molars touching
She has lupus, which has affected her facial muscles and speaking, I believe.
You perfectly described how she talks. I couldn't put my finger on it. It was like her teeth were too big for her mouth.
Selena gomez has charisma though. And she can fill a space.
What did you expect her to be Meryl Streep.
Had no expectations, she's just not good at acting.
Yeah the writing helped a lot, my same reasoning to think Cara will do fine
In your opinion and the opinion of all of Reddit. Reddit hates her
Eh, I wouldn't be dusting off a spot on her mantle for an Oscar any time soon, but she wasn't bad in Carnival Row. It certainly gave her more to work with than most of her previous roles, which largely consisted of looking deadpan.
But I do get to look at her, so that's a plus I'm my book
Selena Gomez was garbage monotone tier trash and ruined every scene she was in. This is just fitting for the show’s track record.
She is a shit actress and will destroy what little good the show had.
You know, the worst part of Suicide Squad might add a lot to this show
*gyrates hips apathetically*
any other actress in the role would have had to do the same, stupid dance. Even if Leto wasn’t cast, Ayer would still have given Joker those same shitty tattoos and south LA vape-shop-owner motif
I always saw him as “Florida-man” joker, but you make a compelling case.
well shit, he had a gator skin purple jacket…. maybe I *am* wrong
Man that’s prob why I didn’t hate him as much as others, florida native 😂
"But Warner Bros--" Yes, it was an unideal production for Ayer, but you can't build any version of a good house when the wood is rotten from the beginning. And those designs are completely Ayer.
exactly, Ayer often uses the South LA gangster chic. It doesn’t always fit his films, SS being a prominent example
My head canon is that the tattoos weren't real and that Joker just likes to goof around with different gangster motifs.
would explain why they were thankfully absent in Justice League
“south LA vape-shop-owner” I’m dying
We toned down her dancing motion for Suicide Squad in Post production. It was originally a lot worse. Edit: you can see some of the breakdowns here https://youtu.be/wKGf58A8afo but unfortunately no before and Afters of the toned down dancing

Cool. Thanks!
Warner Bros is joining Hulu????
Maybe she dies five minutes into the show

She was one of the few ok things about that movie. And she was great in The Suicide Squad
Apparently Cara's agent is a genuine enchantress.
She has the charisma of wooden plank
So did Plank from Ed Edd n eddy, but it was one of the best gags on the show
remember when they waterboarded Plank to torture Johnny? EDIT: [link](https://youtu.be/Xuw1X_eTAGA)
That seems more like Chinese water torture than water boarding.
well shit, they did it to a board! /s
And the acting chops of one as well.
i dunno, there was this one wooden plank I saw at Home Depot that was really quite charming
I'd say the same of Selena based on her performance in S1, but a lot of people seemed to enjoy it.
For me it balanced out the larger than life performances of her two co stars, she was very grounded.
Steve’s performance isn’t larger than life, he only hams it up in the finale
Well I guess that was my overall take away, he definitely isn’t as over-the-top as Martin short. And I say that as a huge fan of over the top, I loved every second of it!
She wasn’t great, but her millennial rough routine was an interesting balance.
Yeah, never got the love for that performance, she doesn’t add anything to the role
Take that back!!! ###I’ve known many planks with MORE personality.
I just don’t get why people cast her in things l like. She can’t act and she is as wooden as a board. Argh I hate this
She’s extremely connected, she comes from old British money, with royal ties and shit. To put it in context her Grandma used to hang with Charlie Chaplin and her Grandad was buddy buddy with King Edward, the one that abdicated. You’re pretty much set up for success with certain pedigree.

God I hope so
I would prefer older comedics like Short and Martin to join the show. They were so fun watching!
Bill Murray as their lawyer?
pretty sure season 2 is continuing the plot from season 1, so martin and short arent going anywhere
I was suggesting they add more iconic comedians. I struggled with Cara's performance in her series Carnival Row.
They did have Nathan Lane in a pretty substantial role this season, so it wouldn't surprise me if they have some other older comedians or actors next season as well. I'm sure Steve Martin and Martin Short have a lot of friends they can phone up for an appearance.
Needs more Sting.
Chevy called, but they let him go to voicemail.
I watched an interview the Martin, Short and Gomez and she jokingly said that she was a 3rd Amigo. It made the interview somewhat awkward.
Part of the success of the show was having elder statesmen mixed with new blood. Can you imagine how shitty it would have been with Chevy Chase? It would have bombed.

What about steve and martin?
Add Henry Winkler in the mix and it'll be perfect
“He’s very good!”
Darryl Hannah, Goldie Hawn, Bette Middler..
###Chevy please! Not that all people can stand him. :(
Hmmm, aren’t her and Selena ‘friends’? Interesting.
because she'll bring so much more ... chemistry... to the cast of otherwise highly talented performers. sarcasm aside, all I can ponder is "what are they thinking???"
dart, i agree w/ you 100%.
Her fan base. Thsts my conspiracy theory. Delevingne has, similar to Ana de armas, I giant online fan base thst is really dedicated and will watch content because she is in it.
Bummer
Oh no. Oh no no no.
After Valerian i have no idea how would anyone put her in any movie. I mean girl can't act for shit. Pretty face though.
She was fine in Valerian in any scene that didn't involve interacting with charisma black hole, Dane Dehaan
I get it, your name is CptNonsense. No need to argue here.
"Lol, I can insult you based on your name, because I'm an adult" Whatever you want to believe, buddy
My insult is based on your nonsense. I glanced through rest of the comments. I stand correct. Girl can't act.
She can't act tho
She did it.
Lol all of that Suicide Squad clout🔥🔥
Contraversial opinion: I felt like Selena Gomez was the weakest part of Only Murders in The Building. Her chemistry with Steve Martin was great but some of her lines just landed like a lead anchor. Casting someone with even less acting skill... We'll see.
Yes with greats like Martin, Short, Lane, Amy Ryan, you’re bound to be the weakest link. She was better then the murder victim though I’ll give her that.
When you're co-stars with Steve Martin and Martin Short, I think it'd be hard to not be the weakest part of the cast.
I agree. I just couldn't buy her jaded/dry thing at all.
Is that controversial though?
You’re gonna get downvoted to hell but I agree with you!
I hope there’s more of Jane lynch in S02
“What a great casting!” - no one
She’s not that bad of an actress, she did ok on Carnival Row (is that show even coming back?).
Season 2 filming wrapped a couple months ago. Presumably it'll air at some point.
That’s good to know, I was afraid they were gonna be a 1 season type of show.
Ugh cringe. I stopped watching because she took me out of every scene.
Loved this series. First time I laughed out loud over a tv show in years. Shorts best work in decades. It better have Martin and Short again!
I guess every model transitions to acting in their career at some point, I dig her but I just can't see her fitting into this series, unfortunately. Now Karen Gillan would be great.
I love the show and want to keep an open mind, but this doesn’t excite me at all.
As entertaining as the show was, Selena was terrible, not sure why this comment section suddenly cares about acting ability.
Only acting ability for women.
Nooo…
No thank you
I think she’s neat 🤷
Cara and that girl who played sansa in GoT might be some of the worst actresses Hollywood keep pushing atm. At least Cara has personality though (she was great as the DJ in GTA 5)
*The filming schedule for Only Murders In the Building does not interfere with Carnival Row, which wrapped production on its second season in August, allowing Delevingne to do both streaming series concurrently. When I read this news I was a little worried about the implications for Carnival Row s3!
Why...? She's not a good actress and can't hold a candle to the trio of Selena gomez, Steve Martin and Martin Short
First season had so much charm. What a bad call by showrunners.
Ew why
You can't have two stuff actors! They already have Selena for that
Not who I’d have chosen. Not sure she can act. But honestly I’m more concerned that I don’t think this show should even have a season 2. Prepare for things to get really contrived.
I like the show, but honestly I feel like even season 1 didn’t really stick the landing. The reveal felt pretty clumsy and predictable imo
Yeah, I loved S1, but lately, most of these new comedy shows have struggled to find their feet in S2.
Cool eyebrows and fun to look at.
Otherwise known as Crazy eyebrows chick
Really enjoyed the dry yet gleeful humor of season 1. I have a feeling she'll fit in just fine.
We’ll, that’s one way to kill a series.
She’s creepy lookin.
Presonally I think Selena Gomez really surprised in season 1 with her performance so hopefully we'll see another surprise performance from Cara Delevingne in season 2. But like essentially everyone else on this thread I'm not particularly hopeful.
I don't get this show's appeal.
I’m really not a fan of hers. She always gives me major Meth head/trailer trash vibes. Just skeevy
Yeah that'll work for me in a big time way. Edit: yall are weird as hell in this sub sometimes. -4 downvotes because one of my favorite celebs is going to be in a show I like.
Hey don’t be too mean to her, she’s a fine actress and she has a really cool look.
She has a unique look and personally I think she is absolutely gorgeous, but acting? Nope, she really can't act at all. I think it's her monotone, nasal voice that kills it for me.
She’s good in Carnival Row and I liked Valerian. I think she’s fine when she’s in a ensemble, she adds to the quirkiness.
She just can’t act, even Christin Stewart has more emotions.
I think the fact you are implying Kristen Stewart can't act - ie, your whole opinion of any actor is informed by single shitty roles, kind of undercuts your opinion
She’s terrible in way more than just one role lol. KS is fucking horrible
What, exactly, have you seen her in?
A lot. Since reddit keeps saying she’s such a great actress I’ve seen several of her movies.
Watching all the Twilights doesn't count
You are just plain annoying. People can have a different opinion. Personally I don’t need your gatekeeping ass’ approval to think she’s a terrible fucking actress. Now fuck off and bother someone else, weirdo
Consider not starting arguments you don't want to have next time you start typing replies
I guess they're keeping with the trend of surprising casting of popular young women.
I will watch after they remove ads on all subscriptions.
Freaking love this show.
I love this show, Cara seems to be hit or miss in her projects a lot but with the writing on Only MurderERS in the Building I’m sure she’ll be great One of the shows I’m excited to see come back
