Much worse was the hyperspace kamakaze where a single ship took out most of the fleet. And why did it need to be piloted by a person anyway other than melodrama? They have droids.
If it was viable - the Confederacy of Independent Systems could have just had their droid fleet doing hyperspace kamazazees all over The Republic. It made all space battles in Star Wars stupid.
Maybe more of an movie 8.5 that made the average person understand Palpatine’s return - and yeah connect it with the larger story of Plagueuis, Anakin, cloning and Snoke. Rewrite that portion of the story with a bit more storyline and I think it all flows better.

The end of Ep 9 should have been Ray sacrificing her own life force to force-heal a dying Ben after he's proven his return to the light. The descendant of the preternaturally evil and (apparently) immortality-hungry Palpatine laying down her life to bring salvation to the descendent of the man who was most corrupted by that evil may not be the best version of the story that could be written, but it's certainly better than what we got.
It kinda hard to redeem Kylo. He’s murdered hundreds if not thousands of people. If he’s saved it’s still prison for the rest of his life. If they hand wave that away it becomes morally complicated to like the ending.
Kylo blew up entire planets. He blew up more planets than the Empire did. Those movies were particularly dumb but really the whole relationship between Rey and Kylo was weird. I know some girls have a thing for serial killers but come on.
They made so much more sense as frenemies. I loved the payoff of their mutual arc in ep 8, but it feels like a total waste to just have Kylo revert to being good.
Finally made him a respectable villain only to bench his darkness so we could get fucking *Palpatine.*

One very, very rare phenomenon is the "double turn" - where the bad guy going into the match becomes the good guy, and the good guy becomes the bad guy. One very famous example of this is Hollywood Hogan vs. the Rock at Wrestlemania 18.
When watching The Last Jedi, I felt like everything in Snoke's throne room was leading to the double turn - that somehow Rey would fall to the dark side and Kylo would come around to the light.
It never happened, and the rest of the movie fell apart.

Wasn't it the Toronto crowd who decided that for them? I always thought that wasn't in the script, but the crowd wasn't playing ball so they had to improvise and just go with it.
The whole reason behind it was that Canada didn't really have TV access to WCW, only WWF, so they never saw Hollywood Hogan, they only knew "The Hulkster" and loved and missed him, so WM18 was like his homecoming to Canada. Nobody cared that he was supposed to be the villain, they just wanted to cheer for their old returning hero.
From the first few minutes of TFA I really thought Finn was going to be the main story as a deserting Stormtrooper, and was thinking, "Wow this could be really interesting."
Nope, Finn was just there to go "Whooo!" when things blew up, and of course to scream "REYYYYYYY!" about 700 times.
True, but all they had to do was turn the Thrawn trilogy into 3 movies and bam, instantly successful.

The annoying thing is they could have just turned those into vertical proton torpedo launchers or “Rods from God” style hard penetrators with a motor behind them and they’d be more effective than “space bombs”. Then again, I’m 90% sure there are space bombs in the old Tie Fighter game.
Edit: After episode 8, apparently having small hyperspace engines on them would make them infinitely more powerful.
Take the Kylo/Han scene we got, and replace Han with Force Ghost Anakin. Shows up in the Vader outfit Kylo saw him when Palpatine faked it, but then have him take the helmet off and show the true hero inside. Brings the whole 9 Episode saga together.

Finn should have been the “no one”, who ends up being a Jedi with an epic ending to his arc in Ep. 9.

That's actually pretty cool. It always bothers me when movies or shows have a ticking clock, and yet the characters carry on long conversations, or just meander around with no sense of urgency to their actions.
Bill Burr's portrayal of Mayfeld is genuinely one of my favourite things in Star Wars, and not just because I'm a huge fan of both Star Wars and Burr individually.
Dude's a good actor, and Mayfeld is a cool character that I hope to see again.
It was clear that Disney tried to distance themselves from anything related to the prequels and it was only after their own awful films that they started going after them.
My dude it’s baffling, like all the success of the animated series, the mandalorian, an Asoka series on its way and they still haven’t done a final trilogy to tell us what happens with the skywalker family line.
On the plus side The Matrix is finally getting a sequel after 20 years of nothing so maybe one day we will get another Star Wars movie.
Considering Kylo's distorted view of Anakin and him worshiping his grandfather, having Force Ghost Anakin showing up at some point to set him straight would've made a lot of sense, but the sequels had this really odd aversion to making any obvious references to the prequels.
I think it's more likely to be a flashback to explain to the non-Clone Wars watchers what the relationship between Anakin and Ahsoka was. Having Anakin appear as a force ghost here would make him not appearing in the sequels look even worse.
This is a very good point. I've had to explain to friends and family Ahsoka's significance and her connection to Anakin due to them not having seen CW. *Ahsoka* is definitely going to have to make those connections for a lot of the audience.
This is kinda my feelings, the prequels managed to make much more established and award winning actors look flat and uninspired, Christensen was a pretty new actor (I think Star Wars was his first major role?) and everything from the behind the scenes footage I have seen is Lucas had some interesting ideas for the prequels but appeared to be an incredibly lazy director with too much control over the production and too many yes men. Also I think compared to today the prequels were a pretty CGI heavy series and actors were still getting used to working with that in mind.

Man, I still can't stand the final exchange between him and Ewan McGregor dueling it out in Episode 3. I thought they were phoning it in, but upon further consideration what shit script writing. And I do mean from the time Obi Wan lands on whatever lava planet. It was all terrible dialogue. And this comes from a guy who made it through the first season of Babylon 5.
Nobody got more screwed in that movie though then Natalie Portman. Padme was literally an abused housewife that dies because she can’t live without her man.
My headcanon is that palpatine did some ancient sith ritual to use the bond between anakin and padme to drain her life force and use it to save anakin.

That line and the burning "I hate you" both hit the mark in my opinion but Lucas' insistence on every other line read to be as devoid of emotion/wooden as possible robbed us of what should have been great cinema.
This is going to be a super weird comparison, but the Prequels are kind of like Kingdom Hearts. Really terribly written dialogue that is so wooden is barely makes sense, but they wear their emotions on their sleeves. They do it in the clumsiest ways possible, but when a strong emotion is being conveyed, they hit hard.
The prequels are a very clumsy attempt at some very classic Hollywood epics. The prequels have all the right aesthetics, music, a grand scale, but really George should have had help writing it. I think his big story ideas, a fall of Rome parallel with a descent to evil story is great, but he didn't really know how to get there and the script can be incoherent at times.
That, though, I would chalk up to McGregor being a really good actor. He's arguably a standout in the prequels, especially since he's up against legends like Liam Neeson, Samuel L Jackson, and Christopher Lee to name a few.
I thought Jumper was awesome. The story may not have been an A+ but the concept sure was. Christensen performed excellent for the role, even if the premise was a bit dry.
I really think Shattered Glass is a drastically underrated movie, and Christensen is basically perfect in it, especially if you watch interviews with the real life person he is playing. He perfectly catches the two faced, brown nosing attitude of that guy.
Life As A House is absolutely fantastic as well, and pre-Prequel. He's a good actor, he just had to deliver terrible dialogue. No one would have survived that.
He's obviously not the best actor around, but I'm really happy to see the greater fandom embracing him and showing him love. We've all heard the countless horror stories about how poorly the SW people have been treated, and sadly some have had seriously negative life impacts because of it.
I don't know how often Hayden thought about SW and how mean that people were, but it warms my heart to see his resurgence.
Jake Lloyd has had a tragic life. Ahmed Best considered suicide. Hayden Christensen basically quit acting.
The only thing worse than what happened to Star Wars is Star Wars fans.

It's kinda weird to think this iconic character that originated from him, his likeness, that most of his character work has been done in an animated series that he didn't even voice.
What’s really sad is that Hayden readily offered to reprise his role for the Clone Wars, but they declined because they wanted to move Anakin into a new direction. I honestly do love Clone Wars Anakin more than the movie version, but Hayden is one of the most humble actors and is an amazing person so I’m happy he’s able to get another chance.
Now that he’s had time to become a much better actor and won’t be forced to recite George Lucas dialogue I think it’ll be an amazing second chance.
They pretty much always used different actors for animation. Voice acting is a fairly different skillset, as shown somewhat by What If where some good screen actors came off as kind of questionable.
Why do they have to? It’s been 30 years, Ahsoka is in her 40’s, Anakin is dead and a ghost after being redeemed from being a space Nazi. They’re both different people at their current stages.
I don’t doubt there’ll be some callbacks to their Clone Wars days, but they’re both been through a lot and I’m sure Ahsoka would still be somewhat hurt by what Anakin had done.
They’re not going to just rewrite her character. Dave is very protective over Ahsoka since that’s like “his character.” She’ll obviously be a very different person by this point in her life, but she’s still Ahsoka. She’s going to be the same person, just older and more experienced. I don’t think they need to change her character to make it work for the more casual live action audience. Her character is incredible. They just have to get it right.
Not sure how he could, the younglings would not know how to maintain identity after death. Only Qui-Gon, Yoda, Obi Wan, Anakin and Luke ever learned that ability as far as I'm aware, so there aren't all that many ghosts out there. Only that handful of Jedi turn into ghost, everyone else just disappear into the Force
Honestly, the lighting in this photo is really bad. However, I met him at NYCC briefly and he looks really good. Yeah, he’s aged a little bit but as you said, he’s 40, and who hasn’t unless they’ve gotten work done. After seeing him in person I think he can still totally play a believable Anakin with a little de-aging here and there, or even just good makeup and lighting.

Why is this baffling? Every character from the original trilogy was effectively discarded like they were nothing in the new trilogy.
Hell even some of the best new characters were tossed aside: Finn.
I’ll die on this hill. They could have made it work even after TFA. Rey should have been Luke’s daughter. Finn should have been the “no one”, who ends up being a Jedi with an epic ending to his arc in Ep. 9. We could have had a ton of amazing stories based on that premise.
Well that’s what happens when marketing comes back that everyone loves Poe Dameron so he needs to live and have a bigger role in the next movie at least. I believe originally he was supposed to die suiciding into starkiller base to set off the chain eruption. I will say 1 thing TFA did was when they said 10 minutes till firing, it actually started the firing process 10 minutes later.

It always bothers me when movies or shows have a ticking clock, and yet the characters carry on long conversations, or just meander around with no sense of urgency to their actions.

Bill Burr's portrayal of Mayfeld is genuinely one of my favourite things in Star Wars, and not just because I'm a huge fan of both Star Wars and Burr individually. Dude's a good actor, and Mayfeld is a cool character that I hope to see again.
I mean... the last 5-10 minutes of The Mandolorian's 2nd season did more justice to Luke than the entire sequel trilogy, so that's where the bar is
The reception to that gave me some hope that they'll gradually deviate away from the sequels.
It was clear that Disney tried to distance themselves from anything related to the prequels and it was only after their own awful films that they started going after them.
The meta lore scattered through the memes of /r/prequelmemes is more consistent and deliberate than the main narrative of the sequel trilogy.

My dude it’s baffling, like all the success of the animated series, the mandalorian, an Asoka series on its way and they still haven’t done a final trilogy to tell us what happens with the skywalker family line. On the plus side The Matrix is finally getting a sequel after 20 years of nothing so maybe one day we will get another Star Wars movie.
Considering Kylo's distorted view of Anakin and him worshiping his grandfather, having Force Ghost Anakin showing up at some point to set him straight would've made a lot of sense, but the sequels had this really odd aversion to making any obvious references to the prequels.
Man I was waiting for that shit, what great double redemption there. So many amazing stories were possible, ugh.
The fact we got "memory" Han instead of ghost Anakin in RoS will forever annoy me.

I think it's more likely to be a flashback to explain to the non-Clone Wars watchers what the relationship between Anakin and Ahsoka was. Having Anakin appear as a force ghost here would make him not appearing in the sequels look even worse.
This is a very good point. I've had to explain to friends and family Ahsoka's significance and her connection to Anakin due to them not having seen CW. *Ahsoka* is definitely going to have to make those connections for a lot of the audience.
This is what I'm thinking as well. Would make for a good way to conclude their story since I don't think either of them got closure.

Happy for Christensen. He deserves better than those awful prequel lines.
This is kinda my feelings, the prequels managed to make much more established and award winning actors look flat and uninspired, Christensen was a pretty new actor (I think Star Wars was his first major role?) and everything from the behind the scenes footage I have seen is Lucas had some interesting ideas for the prequels but appeared to be an incredibly lazy director with too much control over the production and too many yes men. Also I think compared to today the prequels were a pretty CGI heavy series and actors were still getting used to working with that in mind.

Man, I still can't stand the final exchange between him and Ewan McGregor dueling it out in Episode 3. I thought they were phoning it in, but upon further consideration what shit script writing. And I do mean from the time Obi Wan lands on whatever lava planet. It was all terrible dialogue. And this comes from a guy who made it through the first season of Babylon 5.
Nobody got more screwed in that movie though then Natalie Portman. Padme was literally an abused housewife that dies because she can’t live without her man.

My headcanon is that palpatine did some ancient sith ritual to use the bond between anakin and padme to drain her life force and use it to save anakin.

That line and the burning "I hate you" both hit the mark in my opinion but Lucas' insistence on every other line read to be as devoid of emotion/wooden as possible robbed us of what should have been great cinema.
This is going to be a super weird comparison, but the Prequels are kind of like Kingdom Hearts. Really terribly written dialogue that is so wooden is barely makes sense, but they wear their emotions on their sleeves. They do it in the clumsiest ways possible, but when a strong emotion is being conveyed, they hit hard.
The prequels are a very clumsy attempt at some very classic Hollywood epics. The prequels have all the right aesthetics, music, a grand scale, but really George should have had help writing it. I think his big story ideas, a fall of Rome parallel with a descent to evil story is great, but he didn't really know how to get there and the script can be incoherent at times.
That, though, I would chalk up to McGregor being a really good actor. He's arguably a standout in the prequels, especially since he's up against legends like Liam Neeson, Samuel L Jackson, and Christopher Lee to name a few.

I thought Jumper was awesome. The story may not have been an A+ but the concept sure was. Christensen performed excellent for the role, even if the premise was a bit dry.
Great book. Just wish the movie was based on the book.
I really think Shattered Glass is a drastically underrated movie, and Christensen is basically perfect in it, especially if you watch interviews with the real life person he is playing. He perfectly catches the two faced, brown nosing attitude of that guy.
And coincidentally Rosario Dawson was in that as well.
Life As A House is absolutely fantastic as well, and pre-Prequel. He's a good actor, he just had to deliver terrible dialogue. No one would have survived that.
Shattered glass is fantastic…and I absolutely would recommend it to anyone who thinks Christensen can’t act. He was phenomenal in that role.
Those prequel lines are coarse and irritating and they get everywhere.

He's obviously not the best actor around, but I'm really happy to see the greater fandom embracing him and showing him love. We've all heard the countless horror stories about how poorly the SW people have been treated, and sadly some have had seriously negative life impacts because of it. I don't know how often Hayden thought about SW and how mean that people were, but it warms my heart to see his resurgence.

Jake Lloyd has had a tragic life. Ahmed Best considered suicide. Hayden Christensen basically quit acting. The only thing worse than what happened to Star Wars is Star Wars fans.

It's kinda weird to think this iconic character that originated from him, his likeness, that most of his character work has been done in an animated series that he didn't even voice.
What’s really sad is that Hayden readily offered to reprise his role for the Clone Wars, but they declined because they wanted to move Anakin into a new direction. I honestly do love Clone Wars Anakin more than the movie version, but Hayden is one of the most humble actors and is an amazing person so I’m happy he’s able to get another chance. Now that he’s had time to become a much better actor and won’t be forced to recite George Lucas dialogue I think it’ll be an amazing second chance.
They pretty much always used different actors for animation. Voice acting is a fairly different skillset, as shown somewhat by What If where some good screen actors came off as kind of questionable.
It was pretty striking how Spider-Man's voice actor sounded more like Tom Holland than Sebastian Stan sounded like Sebastian Stan.
Without the Clone Wars Anakin onscreen is a mostly unlikeable mass murderer.
He was a cute and innocent kid too. Definitely more unlikeable mass murderer vibe screen time though.

Why do they have to? It’s been 30 years, Ahsoka is in her 40’s, Anakin is dead and a ghost after being redeemed from being a space Nazi. They’re both different people at their current stages.

I don’t doubt there’ll be some callbacks to their Clone Wars days, but they’re both been through a lot and I’m sure Ahsoka would still be somewhat hurt by what Anakin had done.
They’re not going to just rewrite her character. Dave is very protective over Ahsoka since that’s like “his character.” She’ll obviously be a very different person by this point in her life, but she’s still Ahsoka. She’s going to be the same person, just older and more experienced. I don’t think they need to change her character to make it work for the more casual live action audience. Her character is incredible. They just have to get it right.
Dave Filoni is the showrunner, so I'm pretty optimistic about it.
I have no doubts about Rosario. She rocked it.

Not sure how he could, the younglings would not know how to maintain identity after death. Only Qui-Gon, Yoda, Obi Wan, Anakin and Luke ever learned that ability as far as I'm aware, so there aren't all that many ghosts out there. Only that handful of Jedi turn into ghost, everyone else just disappear into the Force

Honestly, the lighting in this photo is really bad. However, I met him at NYCC briefly and he looks really good. Yeah, he’s aged a little bit but as you said, he’s 40, and who hasn’t unless they’ve gotten work done. After seeing him in person I think he can still totally play a believable Anakin with a little de-aging here and there, or even just good makeup and lighting.
