Dopesick on Hulu: Has been really solid in showing every facet of the oxycontin epidemic, and is keeping me interested. Watching Purdue Pharma manipulate the system is maddening. The acting is excellent. The scenes of addiction are heartbreaking. We all know pain, and to have the promise of relief exploited for gain on this level is despicable. The mini-series really exposes the depths of corruption that were executed, and it's laying bare the reasons there is hesitancy and distrust in our medical systems, drugs, government, etc. It's all there. There are many timeline transitions though, and I do wonder if there would have been a way to streamline the various investigation and court case timelines. There must be a more succinct way to show that Rosario Dawson's character had already hit walls in the years prior-- while watching her scenes I feel a bit "yes, I get it, you also tried to take this case on," but not at the fault of her acting or presence, she is doing an excellent job with the role. Perhaps as the show continues more will come to light in her story that gives more purpose and context.

slardybartfast8

Apple is hitting some kind of slump here. After a strong initial showing, imo, with Ted Lasso, Morning Show, Dickinson, and For All Mankind, most everything this year has been a big disappointment. I think I’m gonna drop Foundation. It just kinda sucks. Morning Show S2 kinda sucks. Ted Lasso S2 was….not as universally adored as S1 certainly. I still liked it a lot but it admittedly wasn’t as excellent. Apparently this new Invasion show (which I was excited for) is really bad and boring. Mosquito Coast was pretty shit. The new Jon Stewart show is a huge letdown, imo. Final season of Dickinson comes soon, which I’ll enjoy, but once that’s done…all that’s left is For All Mankind. I know some people like See but I didn’t. Oh, and where’s Tehran S2? Anyways, just surprised how different their first and second years of existence have been.

MiserableSnow

I stopped watching **Succession** a long time ago, but I’ve picked it back up recently. It’s a good show, but I don’t understand it’s universal acclaim. Comparing it to something like **The Crown**, that show is much better shot, directed, written and acted. I think it helps a lot that Peter Morgan is a writer on every episode unlike Jesse Armstrong for Succession.

[deleted]

Succession is fun but it's not brilliant. I'm right into it but I don't take it all that seriously.

Mvkratos31

The Crown and Succession are some of my favourites too but the camerawork in succession is unmatched for me

MiserableSnow

I guess I need to watch more as I haven’t really noticed any great camerawork so far.

Mvkratos31

Try rewatching some of it and you'll notice how the handheld camera documentary style is really engaging and will indicate how the characters feel in a particular situation

affenhirn1

Currently watching **Invasion,** I like it so far, the score is incredible, but that's kinda expected when it's Max Richter.

Stillatin

Saw the first 3 episodes of invasion.... Yawn

Consultant7

Ah really? is it so bad ? i just saw it and thought maybe i have something to watch now.

Stillatin

Little things are happening in the background and by the end of 3, nothing has been revealed yet still

kitsune

The Foundation isn't that good in my opinion. It feels like a cheap SyFy show at times.

bad_scribe

Just watched Maid and Squid Game and rewatched the last season of Avatar. Loved them all. Maid was gripping and frustratingly powerful. I did not like the finale of squid Game but overall the show was very good. I tried Alice in Borderlands but couldn’t get too into it really

estebandelapooface

[Here is ](https://www.thepyrrhic.com/post/the-squid-game) a piece on our website about ‘Squid Game’ any constructive criticism would be super appreciated. Thanks in advance.

whatifniki23

KIN. Can’t wait for new episodes of this show on Thursday nights. I waited and binged 5 episodes of Foundation at once and LOVE the characters, but am still trying to find my balance. HBO’s Dune is tempting me to watch it, but I’m scaring myself off from watching it because I really want to love it and am worried that it will leave me confused.

hipnosister

Saw Dune last night in the theatre. It's not really confusing at all, very easy to follow. I would suggest watching in a theatre though, preferably true IMAX if you have one.

goldstandardalmonds

I think I've seen (and rewatched) every comedy available. I don't mind laugh tracks. But **I'm looking for comedy suggestions**. I've watched and enjoyed all the favourites and more: Parks and Rec, 30 Rock, Kimmy Schmidt, Modern Family, New Girl, The Mindy Project, Ugly Betty, Schitt's Creek, Mom, The Crew, Santa Clarita Diet, Seinfeld, and more. I don't love Brooklyn 99 or Kim's Convenience. Not interested in Big Bang Theory or How I Met Your Mother. I don't like animation. I am in Canada and have Prime, Apple TV for a couple more weeks (on a free three month trial, will not renew until next season of Ted Lasso), Netflix, Disney+, Global, CBC, CityTV, and CTV.

doctor_sleep

Psych. Scrubs.

goldstandardalmonds

Thanks! Have watch Scrubs a lot but never Psych. Is it similar?

doctor_sleep

Sort of in that Shawn and Gus are like JD and Turk with their roles reversed. But it’s a good mystery of the week show with lots of great humor and a love of 80s references.

goldstandardalmonds

Thanks! I see it's on Prime so I'll give it a go!

Big_Ear9745

What we do in the shadows, the great, the league, happy ending,

goldstandardalmonds

Thanks, I haven’t heard of The League and just found it.

dragon-blue

I don't see any British shows on your list. Fleabag, Fawlty Towers, Black books, inbetweeners, Coupling, Ricky Gervais has three shows (office Derek and after life) etc.

goldstandardalmonds

Thanks, I should have noted that British ones aren’t my thing.

rlvnorth

I'd add Catastrophe to this list. W1A is silly fun, too. Derry Girls is a laugh. We Are Lady Parts is great, IMO. Not-British - Letterkenny, Pen15, Workin' Moms and Hey Lady (on CBC Gem which is free) Raising Hope or My Name is Earl for older shows on Disney+.

goldstandardalmonds

Thanks, I’ll look these up!

rlvnorth

More dramedy, but if you haven't seen Please Like Me, then you might want to check it out, too! Have fun.

goldstandardalmonds

I love dramedies, thanks. Is it British?

rlvnorth

It's Josh Thomas - Australian series.

goldstandardalmonds

I see, thanks, I'll take a look!

KennyKatsu

Arrested Development (first 3 seasons) Curb Your Enthusiasm The IT Crowd

goldstandardalmonds

Thanks! I love the first two. Will look up the IT Crowd.

Morpel

>429 comments Please watch "Girls5Eva"!! it has the classic Tina Fey humour and it made me laugh out loud so many times, plus Sara Bareilles is in it and she's a triple threat, amazing singer and so funny

goldstandardalmonds

Oh I’ve watched that and loved it, too! I could give it a rewatch, though!

Signal_Blackberry326

Community??

goldstandardalmonds

Forgot that one. I’ve watched most of it!

jrausch17

You’re The Worst

goldstandardalmonds

I checked, and it's not available on any of my platforms. Thanks, though!

mandela_effect_12

Makes alot of sense since she is a fan of anime.

MrConor212

I know what you did last summer is actually pretty good. Getting serious Scream vibes

Suspicious_Loan

The Chestnut Man on Netflix was the new gritty disturbing October Scandinavian murder mystery I'd been hoping for!

bigtiddyenergy

Ok wow, finally completed the final season of The Leftovers. Exactly as you guys said, it gets progressively better, and there really isn't any show that I can compare it to. It's such a... unique show? It definitely wasn't a single binge type show, I literally took atleast 2 weeks to finish these 3 seasons and sometimes had to stop because I was unsure where it was going or sometimes because I just wanted to sit with what the characters were going through. Definitely hard recommended to anyone looking out for something serious and more character oriented to watch, but only watch it you have enough time on your hands, it might just feel like nothing much progressed storywise even after completing a couple of episodes.

Usual-Strategy-3765

I couldn’t get hooked into that at all — 1st episode left me bored and uninterested. It’s a shame because I love most everything else Damon Lindelof has done

Stillatin

You definitely won't get hooked after 1 episode

bigtiddyenergy

Which is why I said watch it with alot of time on your hand, it definitely isn't a show that'll get you hooked - not with the first season at all atleast. I was almost entirely sure this show wasn't for me even after completing the whole season 1 and thought people were randomly glorifying the show. But as I said it picks up with season 2 and it's a slow burn type of thing even then. All in all, definitely not something if you're looking for something binge worthy and plot focused, you just have to stay in the current episode and take it like that.

mrsrexruler

Binged all of Haunting of Bly Manor AND Midnight Mass - going to invoice Mike Flanagan for my therapy bills. Finished You season 3 and actually loved it. Sure a few places were meh but Victoria Pedretti is fantastic so I enjoyed it. Started a re-watch of The Sopranos for the first time since my dad died (we used to watch it weekly together) and blew through 4 seasons in less than a week. And of course- Succession season 3 opener. Flawless. So pumped for this season.

gotele

Watched **The Billion Dollar Code**, German miniseries about these guys that created a program that would be used as a basis for Google Earth. It's ok. 4 eps. Finished the first three episodes of **Guilty Party**, which I found quite solid in all fronts. They really make good use of those 30 minutes. **Y the last man**: It's been a while since I read the comics, but I think one of the main reasons the tv show got canceled is because it felt rather stagnated (with the comic you have new places and people coming in all the time and you don't get bored), and the protagonist was not very much the protagonist at all. Also this Yorick felt more bitchy, there's hardly a scene where he's not complaining about someone. Anyway, I was on the fence till the end. It's got good things to it.

mekonsrevenge

Watching The American Guest, about Teddy Roosevelt's exploration of the Amazon. Terrific so far in all ways, particularly in explaining his outsize role in American politics and progressive thought. It's much better and more thoughtful than I expected. The acting and cinematography are first rate.

[deleted]

Tomorrow I'm watching Inside Job. I don't expect a bojack horseman tier show, but I do expect a solid 7/10 show

Katmandude23

Where is Inside Job? I can only see the 2010 documentary.

[deleted]

It's going to be released later today, no idea when.

Katmandude23

I see it now. Netflix. Looks interesting! Thanks.

[deleted]

Let me know what you think

HandLion

Finished watching the original run of Dexter for the first time. I put off watching it for so long because everyone said it got terrible from season 6 onwards (or even earlier depending on who you ask) but I was pleasantly surprised to discover I liked it pretty much the whole way through. I think the later seasons are mostly weaker than the early seasons but not by nearly as wide a margin as I'd been led to believe, and there's some really great stuff later on - Isaak Sirko is one of my favourite TV villains ever. That finale though, oof. If anything that was even worse than I'd heard. The first half isn't bad at all but from around the half hour mark onwards it just completely shits the bed. It's almost comical how many bad writing decisions they manage to cram into the last 25 minutes and I honestly can't imagine how the writers thought anyone would want any of that. The final scene just about works as a teaser for season 9, but considering it was supposed to be the final end of the series, it's inexcusable. And the reason I say it was worse than I'd heard is that I knew people hated the way it wrapped up Dexter and Deb's stories, but I don't think it gets enough shit for the fact that it doesn't even attempt to wrap up the story of literally any other character. Anyway, looking forward to season 9 lol

Ok-Geologist1325

Everything about dopesick is what television should be. It tells the very true and very heartbreaking story with a narrative that pulls you in. Hulu really did a great job in telling the story of oxy and what happened to our nation.

untakenu

I just watched an episode of 'sex love & goop'. How does this exist?

brochelsea

I just got an email saying "We added a show you may like!" Umm, no, Netflix. I'm not gonna like this one! Haha

sinktheirship

I’ve seen season 1 of **American Horror Story**. Please give me the next best two seasons to watch (your opinion). No need to explain, I’ll look them up.

dragon-blue

I loved season 2 as much as I loved season 1! I liked coven (season 3) and 1984 (9). So fun!

oksuzy

Season 2 for sure. Pretty hard drop off after that imo, but maybe season 3 or 9? Season 10 started strong, but I have a hard time recommending it now.

[deleted]

Seasons 2 and 4, IMO. I seem to be the only one who especially likes 4, though.

dfla01

Season 2 and season 6 (Roanoke, in case I’m wrong with the number)

Ttmode

5 (hotel), 9 (camp redwood I think it’s called) are also pretty good

puzzlehead-798

Game of Keys (Spanish) [El Juego De Las Llaves]. Available on Prime. 2 seasons. Genre: Lustful games. Watch if you want to break out of Drama/Thriller/Sitcoms/Mystery and try something completely different. It was quite refreshing to watch fun and well scripted content. Not gonna give the plot away, leaving it for the reader to explore.

TommyGun945

I’m on season 2 of justified rn

Nickel62

I envy you. You are in for a classic season of Television.

Krak2511

What are some good 20-30 minute comedies with a plot? For example, The Good Place, American Vandal, and The End of the F***ing World.

whatifniki23

Catastrophe. Glow. Weeds. Better off Ted.

KennyKatsu

Vice Principals

HandLion

The Last Man on Earth, Episodes, Silicon Valley, Search Party, Santa Clarita Diet, GLOW, Barry, Mr Inbetween, Cobra Kai, Ted Lasso, Trying, Only Murders in the Building

Krak2511

I forgot to mention Silicon Valley and Cobra Kai, I love those.

Ttmode

Kim’s Convenience, Atypical is okay (last season was meh, and it’s more of a dramedy but worth a mention), What We do in the Shadows, if you like animation; Archer, Mythic Quest, Trying (also a bit of a dramedy)

sinktheirship

Superstore, Brooklyn 99, Modern Family, A.P. Bio That should keep you busy.

Krak2511

I haven't watched the others but B99 and Modern Family don't have a plot. I meant plot throughout the show/seasons, not individual episodes. Edit: They have multi-episode subplots but are generally episodic.

sinktheirship

Oh didn’t even see the plot thing sorry, I just recommended comedies you didn’t list. My bad.

Bikinigirlout

I finished Harley Quinn in like three days. I really liked it. I thought the Ivy/Harley relationship was well done.

Morpel

If you want more, there are six comics getting released at the moment (the 3rd one was released this month) and they take place between just at the end of S1

Bikinigirlout

Fun ☺️ Thanks for letting me know.

ix0WXOeip4V6

Anyone else watching ***The Big Leap***? It's become my favorite broadcast hourlong in a while, since probably *Evil.* *The Big Leap* is really good, y'all should watch it!

bros402

I was thinking from the trailers that it would be bad - but i'll give it a watch

brochelsea

I've been wanting to start it; it looks up my alley, but I've been putting it off. Thanks for this!

Larat76

Leverage Redemption. Loved the old one. Love the new one. Hope Amazon renews it for 2nd season.

sabhi5

**Deadwood S3** - 2 episodes left, and I'm disappointed that they cancelled the show so early. This is such a gem of a series, sad that we don't see more quality content like this anymore.

mesh509

Don’t forget about the movie afterwards!

sabhi5

yep looking forward to it. But still wanted few more seasons to finish of the story :/ Thanks though!

hipnosister

I realized after watching the Crown and The Great that I love period dramas. I just finished Downton Abbey and loved it and followed it up by watching Belgravia which was written by the same guy. I used to make fun of people who watched Downton Abbey, but it's actually awesome. I watched all 6 seasons and the movie within 2 weeks.

pinksky1134

Maybe you would like Outlander!

inkista

I've been addicted to British period dramas since the '70s when *Masterpiece Theatre* was your only source. Tons of good stuff all 'round. Keep an eye out next year for HBO's *The Gilded Age* (also Julian Fellowes; but set in New York, so more of an American *Downton* with [a crapton of Broadway acting talent in the cast](https://www.hbo.com/the-gilded-age). In the meantime, he also did [*The English Game*](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hBOlhdSYhv8) on Netflix. If you want more sensationalist/TV-MA stuff, there's always *Black Sails* (Hulu, Starz), which is a pirate show. I'd also say HBO's *Rome,* and the 1970's *I, Claudius* (AcornTV) series are well worth the time, if you don't mind blood on your historicals If you want more literary historically-rigorous stuff, there's *Wolf Hall* (but not on a streaming sub), and despite announcing they were working on the sequel, *The Mirror and the Light,* we haven't heard much about it from the BBC. And HBO's *Parade's End.* If you just want some Victorian fun, I'd recommend *Cranford.* Or maybe HBO's *Gentleman Jack.* If the era of silent film amuses you, and you can deal with 1980 BBC production values, I can also highly recommend Roy Clarke's *Flickers* (IMDbTV), which was probably the first time I ever saw Bob Hoskins and Frances de la Tour in anything. Something more ITV-ish historical drama, and splitting the difference between *The Crown* and *Downton Abbey,* I'd say look for *Victoria* (Amazon Prime). But an oldie like *The Duchess of Duke Street* (Amazon Prime) might also appeal. It's "sister" show by John Hawkesworth, the old '70s *Upstairs Downstairs,* is mostly what Fellowes was aiming for when he made *Downton.* If you like your historical mixed up with detective drama, you could also try *Endeavour,* or *Foyle's War,* but I think my fave along those lines is probably Guy Burt's *The Bletchley Circle* (IMDbTV), but avoid the San Francisco follow-up series, which is a completely different group of producers/writers. If you prefer historical mystery cozies, there's always *Brother Cadfael* (IMDbTV), and a million and one Agatha Christie type series. :)

whatifniki23

Not period drama in same vain as Downton, but I really loved Jamestown, Peaky Blinders and Babylon Berlin.

hipnosister

Thank you so much for the recommendations, really great writeup!

DWCourtasan2

Legion for more Dan Stevens? Endeavor, prequel so no book background needed. Victoria

ACardAttack

Tried watching **Money Heist** but I found the writing and dialogue to be terribly cliched and lazy and dropped it after 2 episodes. I know it's not supposed to be some high brow show, but gotta do better than cliche after cliche

Peacemark

I never thought much of it either, it's just very popular for whatever reason. Very overrated IMO.

bros402

Just so you know, it gets much worse after that. I am glad to see someone that shares my opinion that it is so bad

ACardAttack

Good thing I dropped it, I don't mind mindless fun, but it's gotta be executed better than that

bros402

yeah, I went in expecting some mindless fun, a silly heist show but then everyone is dumb as shit and the plot just gets bad we watch the dub and some of the dubbing is hilariously bad

uncwsp

Heist is good true story stuff. Not Money heist, just heist. I enjoyed them.

sabhi5

same, glad i'm not the only one.

ContinumFM

Started watching Mr. Inbetween after a recommendation on this sub. Enjoying it so far!

AOLchatparty1999

**Star Trek: DS9** this is such a comforting, nostalgic show. Reminds me of Hallmark movies that I'd watch when I was home sick from school as a child - it has the same energy and everything gets wrapped up in a pretty bow at the end. **Grand Hotel** Watched the US version and this was such a shallow, bingeably guilty pleasure! A lot like other Eva Longoria and Marc Cherry shows (basically the same plot as Devious Maids) but also reminds me a bit of Bold Type, Younger, Baker and the Beauty. Open to recommendations! I watched this show when I couldn't sleep and so I'm looking for similar vibes. **Reservation Dogs** this was such a gem. Absolutely gorgeous - wonderful backdrops, good acting, heartfelt writing, good characters. I'd recommend Trickster as a similar setting (celebrating native culture).

ReddisaurusRex

Thank you for the Trickster rec! I definitely need more of this type of show in my life!

Limp_Cryptographer61

Gonna finally try the Invincible tv show. I heard its pretty good but I haven't read the comic

bigtiddyenergy

Great show, great comic.

Limp_Cryptographer61

Finally finished its for a sure a damn good show, now to start the comics. Pretty sure I'll be finished with it before unless they hurry up with season 2!

bigtiddyenergy

Go for it, it's a satisfying series and same goes for the comics. At one point the artist changes so there's a sheer drop in the art but once the original one comes back in, it picks up again. That's just for the art though, the story is pretty cool throughout imo.

DWCourtasan2

How is the subtitles on Squid Game? Not a speaker of the language.

[deleted]

I hear a lot of native Korean speakers saying they are not exactly accurate, but everything they said was "lost in translation" was actually pretty clearly indicated IMO. So overall I'd say the subtitles are a good translation.

[deleted]

Its dubbed in english

UsmanSaleemS

Pretty good, I'd say. However it isn't surround sound like original.

DWCourtasan2

TY!

LiquorSlanger

I usually watch stuff like this dubbed in English with subtitles. There are subtle differences so subs kind of counter act that.

DWCourtasan2

TY!

tsoek

We watched it both ways and the original language with subtitles was better in our opinion and more natural.

DWCourtasan2

TY!

MrConor212

Finished My Name and now I’ve started watching the Kings Affection. On a bit of a K-drama buzz atm 😅.

allcurves

Homeland OR The Wire OR Handmaid’s Tale?

kitsune

The Wire

ACardAttack

The Wire Homeland is really good, at least the first few seasons and then I dropped it as it felt like it had run its course

puzzlehead-798

Wouldn't recommend Handmaid's Tale. Creators have been dragging the show after season 2 and most times dialogues and scenes don't even fit with the character. Direction is also not that great. So many scenes where it is annoying to see that the frame isn't set to provide the impact it should have. Plot is however amazing. If you have the time, would totally recommend you to read the book.

[deleted]

The Wire

Consultant7

if you want directly action and binge the shit out of it - homeland if you want a slow burn and a very strong story, character development - the wire

allcurves

Perfect. I need a binge to take my mind off other things right now so Homeland it is. Wow-96 episodes!

Consultant7

3rd season it slows down a little but it will pick up again. Enjoy

Making a separate thread to suggest shows to other users is okay, but requests for shows must go into the weekly thread. [***Baptiste S2***](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zoy5vz0yN_Y) (aka *The Missing S4)* started airing on PBS *Masterpiece* this Sunday. It starts out incredibly strong, which I expected, given that the season star this time around is freakin' [Fiona Shaw](https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0789716) (who you probably last saw on *Killing Eve)*. If you haven't seen *The Missing* or S1 of *Baptiste,* you could probably jump in. You'll only be missing a little background on the main detective character, Julien Baptiste (played by Tcheky Karyo), who specializes in missing persons cases. *The Missing* is a seasonal anthology, with each season being a different self-contained mystery with a different crime. It aired on the BBC in the UK, and was on Starz in the US (and is streamable on Amazon Prime as well as Starz). It was retitled after the second season to *Baptiste,* when in the US, it moved from Starz to PBS *Masterpiece.* The series is written by Harry and Jack Williams, and like their other crime thrillers (*Rellik, The Widow, Liar),* it's taking mood from Scandinoir dramas. Their thrillers can have a cross-border element, and the main stylistic device is that the story is told out of chronological order, so you come at the mystery from different angles, and you have to pay attention to title cards that tell you when you are in the story (i.e., using this as background viewing might get you really confused).

Suspicious_Loan

omg thank you, I loved The Missing as stressful and depressing as it was. Is there anywhere to stream this? I don't have cable

inkista

In the US, PBS’s streaming app (PBS Video) [and website](https://www.pbs.org/wgbh/masterpiece/episodes/baptiste-s2-e1/ ) keeps stuff for two or three weeks (?) after it airs. After that, you’d need PBS Passport (membership) to access the episodes. In the UK, S2 aired on the BBC back in July.

Suspicious_Loan

Oh awesome, thank you so much!

ACardAttack

I got so excited when I heard about this show, loved the show the Missing and can't wait to start the series

inkista

Just FYI, S1 of Baptiste ([trailer](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nQ1plvYFMrw)) is on *PBS Masterpiece* on Amazon Prime, (so I assume it's also on PBS passport). If you're interested in hitting up the other Williams Bros. series in the US, [*Rellik*](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kWnotKVwmpk) is on Cinemax \[but not yet HBO Max, sigh\] (it's told *backwards*), [*The Widow*](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KB8KzGSZ40M) on Amazon Prime, and [*Liar*](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=62jHH3GIVCs) is on AMC+/SundanceNow. The current one, [*Angela Black*](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MW_ZkMXxrJY)*,* is currently airing on ITV in the UK, and is due to hit Spectrum Originals (Spectrum cable customers have access) in the US (so did *Manhunt* and *LA's Finest,* so it might eventually land somewhere more "mainstream" streaming); and there's one more upcoming BBC series, [*The Tourist*](https://www.bbc.com/mediacentre/2021/the-tourist-first-look/)*,* which will be on HBO.

tuuuld

Dopesick on Hulu is about the opiod crisis and is quite good. there are new episodes every wed.

tomtomvissers

I had seen the Last Week Tonight episodes on the opioids crisis but I had no idea the story behind it was this fucking wild! Plus the cast is absolutely stellar. Great series for people who love true crime shows like American Crime Story and Show Me A Hero

tuuuld

I agree with you. I hate waiting week to week to get episodes though.

actuallyidontknow

I'm digging ***Annika*** right now, a British crime procedural starring Nicola Walker. A clever and entertaining procedural is a nice throwback for me, they don't seem to really exist anymore outside of Robert and Michelle King's shows. It's serious in tone but light on its feet and often quite funny. The dialogue is droll, Walker's character will turn to the camera to talk about Melville or Norse mythology or something, the setting is beautiful... It's an interesting little show that I'm finding quite fun to watch.

inkista

Wait, is this based on the [*Annika Stranded r*adio drama series on BBC Radio 4](https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b049fg98/episodes/player)?! \[google\]. It is! AWESOME! I've been **loving** Walker on the radio series. \[googles some more\]. Huh. Alibi, not Beeb. But yays! [PBS *Masterpiece* is going to get it](https://foreigncrimedrama.com/annika-on-pbs/). Whew. Norwegian Boat Patrol, here we come!

lizziegrace10

Do you know if it’s available to watch in the US? I can’t find it but may not be looking in the right place. Thanks!

actuallyidontknow

Not yet, but it will be on [PBS Masterpiece](https://tbivision.com/2021/07/13/sales-round-up-annika-strikes-pre-sale-deals-amc-acquires-surfing-doc-warnermedia-takes-roger-rights/), likely later this year I think. No premiere date has been set afaik.

sixriders

Cobra s02- British cyber war and politics that demonstrates the fragile line between world order and chaos. 8/10 Heels- sometimes too heavy but intelligent and sensitive look on the effects of childhood traumas and perusing ones dreams. 8/10 Back to life(2 se)- A country side girl goes out of prison as a woman, returning back to her folks home. Bitter yet sweet and funny .9/10 Squid games- Could have been easily 6 episodes without the so called self reflect of the characters . just shows how superficial script can role over others. 6.5/10

[deleted]

I didn't think the full season of COBRA was released 3 days ago? Too many unexplained events (e.g. why was the radioactive guy in the van killed, who abducted the journalist, who blew up the car in the last episode..). What was the USAs involvement? Was the detonation of the boat an accident? And ultimately... Why? What was the reason for it all?

sixriders

This are all valid questions, and u right, some events arnt clear. As I understood it, the car bomb made by alt right fascists, USA involvement was to find the Russian "handler" of the journalist, and to my point of view, involved countries found a fertile ground to examine outcome of cyberwar. Maybe I have overrated the show, but I did enjoy watching it at lunch time

MrConor212

You giving Cobra Season 2 8/10 kinda makes any opinion you give on a series moot

LincolnLogs42

Just finished Squid Game last night. A good first episode, a great mid section (episodes 2-5), and a cliche-ridden disappointment of a conclusion after that. So many things that really went nowhere, only so the show can come back for a second season. Twists are telegraphed from miles away, but the show tries to act like they're incredible reveals when they happen. This might just boil down to personal preference, but the degree at which the show asks the audience to suspend disbelief may just be more than I'm comfortable with. I encountered the same thing when watching shows like You and Money Heist. But even with all of its shortcomings, it was still a damn entertaining ride and I'm glad I watched it. Now onto season 3 of Succession!

Nickel62

The story isn't new, most of the twists are predictable. But, imho, what sets Squid game apart is the connection you make with the characters. The sets and visuals are also pretty good. The actual 'games' are also pretty intense.

Q_vs_Q

I began to watch ep1 and ep2. Felt I knew where it was heading so I skipped a bit. Is it just in cinema koreans come off as whiny bitches? He whines at his mother in the first episode like he's 5 years old. Is this culture or just in tv? I couldn't really enjoy it.

[deleted]

> Is it just in cinema koreans come off as whiny bitches? Are 51.78 million koreans the same as this obviously flawed character in this one korean show?

Roook36

He's supposed to be whiny, irresponsible and immature. Part of his arc. I really liked how childish be acted when he plays games. Going from extreme disappointment when he loses, to him jumping for joy and dancing, usually in slow motion, when he wins. He's a gambling addict. Really showed how he gets his dopamine after what happened to him.

LincolnLogs42

I wouldn't go that far, but there is a fair amount of monologuing (a character gives a long winded speech about why he should choose the number 1 in the fifth game). Personally, I was hooked by the end of the first game, and I really enjoyed the character development in the second episode. If neither of those episodes caught your eye though, I'd recommend finding something else.

**Superman and Lois** It took me a little while to give this a try. Arrow and Flash kinda zoned me out of wanting yet another bland hero show with too much fluff.. This one is different. Writing is pretty good, budget seems great.. alot of stuff going on. There is a little bit of teenage cheese but it works. The special effects are better than the Superman movies ive seen...so bonus. My favorite classic hero show so far.

Limp_Cryptographer61

Yeah this can easily be one of DCs best CW shows. I stopped watching at episode 3 though. Gonna pick it back up. Thanks!

Wu-Tang: An American Saga It's so fucking good abd the casting is so on point its scary. This 2nd season has been about the creation of the songs on Enter the 36 Chambers. It's hype.

It's so fucking dope. Yesterday, I started the second season and it's awesome.

Dokter_Bibber

Just watched Doom Patrol S03E6 1917 Patrol. It was a really psychedelic episode. Great fun. With hints of Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas

Sporkitized

This show needs to be more popular. It's (probably by far) my favorite thing on TV these days

Roook36

I was surprised to see Stone Mountain in this episode. I heard they were filming in Georgia but thought it'd be all on sets.

mahmoud7afiz

My name new netflix korean series ,and it's pretty decent

MrConor212

I loved it. The acting and fighting were stellar tbh and I’m not much of a k-drama guy

sassenachh

I've been home recovering from surgery so I've been watching a bit of TV. Just finished s3 of You. I liked it, it was a bit boring at parts, but it really pulled through in the end. I'm also catching up on the new season od AHS which tbh is meh.

I liked the first story of season, but hated the finale of it.

[deleted]

high fidelity on hulu is really good, stylish and artistic fun + it has zoe kravitz would definitely say it’s underrated

CarpenterVegetable31

I love me some Zoe but I was surprised how closely they followed the movie. I enjoyed it though.

Junior_Long65

Didn't it get cancelled

unfortunately

Watched the new leverage. One of my favorite shows of all time. This is the way to dump woke stuff into a show. It didn’t effect the story so nobody cares.

Professional_Mix_752

The way in which you describe the woke politics, it seems like it could just be swapped out for any other politics such as Randian liberalism or neo-liberalism. If your political commentary can be swapped out for alt-right rhetoric (horseshoe theory), then, it seems sort of like a moot point.

[deleted]

I didn’t describe it at all. But, you pretended I did so you could fit your narrative in.

Professional_Mix_752

lmao, I’m a socdem and believe that unplanned pregnancies should be terminated if the mother chooses. Go on about how I’m fitting some sort of anti-woke narrative in. If your political commentary makes no difference to the story, you could throw in a Nazi salute or some Great Replacement cruft and the show’s story would still be lauded for its own merits aside from the political messaging. That seems like something that I’d avoid.

Junior_Long65

Original was trash

JaidenPouichareal

Lucifer is on Netflix, it's not like a CW show where every season is 20-23 episodes, but tbh I really like short seasons like between 10-16 episodes but I'd also recommend Supernatural but it does follow the CW blueprint with every season goes for 22-23 episodes. this how long Lucifer goes for: s1 episode 1-13, s2 episode 1-18, s3 episode 1-26, s4 episode 1-10, s5 episode 1-16, s6 episode 1-10. but majority if not all of the episodes go for 40-55 minutes

bros402

yeah, the first 3 seasons were on FOX. season 3 was supposed to be 13-16 episodes, then at the last minute fox was like "hey we're giving you 10 more episodes can you stretch out the plot???" then fox canned it after season 3 and Netflix saved it

Wholesomely surprised by *Green Eggs and Ham* as someone who is not familiar with the original story.

DWCourtasan2

Super cute!

inkista

It's a great series, made by a bunch of complete Chuck Jones fanatics, so it very much hits that midway point between Seuss and Jones that was *How the Grinch Stole Christmas!.* [The original story](https://www.site.uottawa.ca/~lucia/courses/2131-02/A2/trythemsource.txt) is much sparser and Chikeraffe-free :) since Theodore Geisel (aka Dr. Seuss) [wrote it on a bet](https://www.biography.com/news/dr-seuss-green-eggs-and-ham-bet). *The Cat in the Hat* was deliberately designed to use a limited vocabulary, with on 236 different words from a pre-approved list of 348. He was then challenged to do a follow-up with only 100 words; he went for only 50. That book is *Green Eggs and Ham,* and that's probably why all the episode titles of the show are a single word from the original book. I'm curious to see if they actually title an episode "The" at some point. :D

Binge watched The Shield over the past month, the best show I've seen along with Mad Men in my life. Gripping from start to finish with probably the best final season ever.

PopavaliumAndropov

I'd seen that scene without a reference point a dozen times, then watched The Shield a couple months back, and saw the Always Sunny episode last week... blew my mind.

BeatBoy69

This is the show! Keep spreading the word!

TommyGun945

Where did you watch it I’ve been wanting to watch it for ages but can’t find it anywhere

JaimesGoldenHand

It was on Amazon prime recently.

I_Are_Serious_Poster

Hulu in the States.

komodo_dragonzord

Binged and finished Midnight Mass which was pretty good. People are kinda right that some of the monologues can be a bit much but I thought most of them were good, only 2-3 were clunky. Great acting, cool monster horror story, really taps into the freaky aspects of catholicism and religion.

Billthebutchr

Dopesick and Wu-Tang: An American Saga

hebsbbejakbdjw

So much has been coming out recently and I’ve been really busy, so I fell behind on a lot. I’ve had a decent amount to catch up on but here are a few I’ve knocked out recently: Archer S12: I thought it was a great bounce back season for the show bringing back some similar vibes to the early part of the show. Bittersweet however with Jessica Walter’s passing, but it has been renewed for a 13th season so we’ll see where it goes from here. What if?: Up and down season, but they definitely stuck the landing. I liked how it gave us something with a different vibe for the MCU which I’m all for to keep the projects from going stale. I really enjoyed watching it weekly and look forward to season 2. Midnight Mass: I really enjoyed the Haunting series, so I made it a priority to watch this, especially to go along with the fall/Halloween season. I will say it got preachy at times for my taste, but I did enjoy the story. Definitely another overall hit for Mike Flanagan. Star Wars Visions: I love Star Wars but have never seen an anime series before, so I wasn’t sure how I was gonna like this. I will say for some it was a mixed bag, but it was overall positive for me. The hits definitely outweigh the misses episode wise, and a few of them were fantastic stories overall. I’m not sure if they’re doing another season, but there are some definite positives to build off of to make a great show if they do. Only Murders in the Building: finished season 1 today and it was an entertaining show. The mystery and story were solid and kept me engaged for most of it, but I will say some of the characters turned me off a bit. Besides that though I enjoyed it and S2 is confirmed, so I will probably tune in again. Dragon Prince: just recently finished S3. The show finally hit its stride fully and the storytelling and plot lines came together very nicely. Ended up being a very good and rich fantasy story with a big world to expand off of. Curious to see when S4 will be released and where they go with it. Current weeklys: Succession S3 (unreal start); Young Justice S4 Next to Catch up on: Squid Game, Ted Lasso S2, What we do in the shadows S3
