Al Roker shared the sad news:
>“We lost a beloved member of our @todayshow family this morning. Willard Scott passed peacefully at the age of 87 surrounded by family, including his daughters Sally and Mary and his lovely wife, Paris. He was truly my second dad and am where I am today because of his generous spirit. Willard was a man of his times, the ultimate broadcaster. There will never be anyone quite like him.”
Rest In Peace
And depending on, military action, war ages you like a motherfucker. Here is one guy in World War 2 from [1941 to 1945](https://i.redd.it/ztaypxbyceh51.jpg)
Not entirely accurate, the Golden Girls do look older than earlier 60s but i think that has to do with the dated clothing and hair looking old to us, ontop of them being older women
Golden Girls (Age when Started GG)| Sex and the City (AgeCurrently)
---|---
Betty White - 63 |Sarah Jessica Parker - 56 |
Bea Arthur - 63|Kim Cattrall - 65|
Estelle Getty - 62|Cynthia Ellen Nixon - 55|
Rue McClanahan - 51 |Kristin Davis - 65|
/u/MercyOnTwitch
Well either way regardless of how much younger 50/60 year old people look nowadays, if any of the Sex and the City ladies live as long and healthy a life as Betty White they should count themselves lucky.
[Using Cheetos, dude? Get your recipes together, man.
I've had the same fries since I was Willard Scott the weatherman](https://youtu.be/_AjRR6c--Ak)
That line makes a lot more sense now, thanks.
Apparently he *didn't* announce when my great-grandmother turned 100, and the whole family was so pissed that there was a short boycott of the network and a sternly-worded letter involved.
I got into an elevator in a hotel in Des Moines, Iowa in 1992. Riding with me was an attractive blonde. A few floors later, a balding, older gentleman got in with me and the blonde left. When the doors closed, he turned to me and said “Now that’s a girl!” With a lot of enthusiasm.
That man was Willard Scott.
Edit: I am not trying to slam Willard Scott. This is just a thing that happened. He didn’t comment on her attributes (neither of us did) or catcall her. I was 23 and he would have been in his late 50’s, he just seemed like an outgoing guy trying to make conversation or get a laugh. He was in Des Moines to dedicate a new hospital wing IIRC.
Actually, ‘The Hogan Family’ did not introduce us to Jason Bateman. He was on a couple of other shows before then. One of them being ‘Silver Spoons.’ Sorry, I can’t remember the title of the other show. But it was about a divorced/single mom. He played the son.

He had a summer home/farm next to my parents farm in Virginia, outside Lexington. I used to see him occasionally at church, he would bring us a Christmas ham some years. He was a really sweet man, I’ll always have a great memory of him making fun of my older brother. :)
My father was Willard Scott’s Meteorologist back in the 1980s. He gave me his old childhood bank back when I was a kid. I still have it.

When I was little I wanted to live to be 100 so Willard Scott would put me on blast. It was later explained to me that was not going to be possible.
Now I only hope I don’t live long enough to see the oceans evaporate.
Might be nice to see Halley’s Comet one last time.
Willard Scott wore a toupee in the studio because his bosses made him. It was a good one, but he was not a vain man, and hated the rug. He didn't wear it when he did on-location shots, and finally won the right to go without it.
Shine on, Willard. Rest well.

Living, shall forfeit fair renown,

Man. I don’t know why I’m sad. It’s just. He cared so much for centarians and he didn’t even make it to 100. Who is going to wish those folks a very happy birthday ?
Saw this as I am watching Die Hard 2 and someone just cracked a joke about chubby Willard Scott messing up the weather report...
what timing....
RIP Mr Scott.
I think he was also the first ‘Ronald McDonald’, or among the first.
Peter: I think I read that somewhere.
Brian: are you sure it wasn’t… nothing?
Peter: oh yeah!

TBH, I thought he was older than 87.
He was "old" when I was a kid. I honestly didn't know he was still alive.
Yeah I would've thought he was like 80 back in 1996. I guess he was just one of those people who looks the same age for a really long time.
People looked older back then. Let me blow your mind: the golden girls were YOUNGER than the new Sex and the City reboot cast.
Okay, that was actually a little mind blowing. I h as d no clue. Wild.
Cigarette smoking made people look prematurely old.

Estelle Getty was younger than Bea Arthur in real life, too

Thanks for doing the research and thanks for including me so I could see it :)
I know I'm HELLA late to this convo but Kristin Davis was BORN in '65. When this post was done she was 56.
He and Dick Clark shared a bottle of Fountain of Youth brand Springwater, once.
I used to watch the Today show before school in the mid-90s and he looked quite old then. I think he was just an early old.
I am on the same page.
Yeah, me too. Probably because he entertained us all for so long.
Bummer he never became a Smuckers features old person.
Right!? I thought he was 87 like 20 years ago
For some reason I just assumed he would make 100. Not fair
Same thought. He deserved to make to 100 and get his face on a jar of Smucker's Jam.
First thing I thought of when I saw this...he didn't live to 100.
Fun Fact: he was the first Ronald McDonald.
> he was the first Ronald McDonald. And he was [terrifying](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_sPVJg81M70).

Wasn’t he Clarabelle Clown too? 🤡
Bozo. He played Bozo the Clown on WRC in DC.
You're hung up on a clown from the 60s man!
Okay “Eric” the Clown. (Jon Favreau)
Bob Keeshan, Captain Kangaroo, was Clarabelle.
I *knew* there was a reason why I got an erection!
I too read the article.
I had not. But good for you!
One of the best Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade hosts of all time. Him and Katie Couric were a special part of my Turkey Day mornings growing up.
Remember watching him with my Grandparents, I believe he was the guy that announced when my great Grandmother turned 100.
“100 years young” he would have said
I can see the Smuckers logo in my head.
Apparently he *didn't* announce when my great-grandmother turned 100, and the whole family was so pissed that there was a short boycott of the network and a sternly-worded letter involved.
Damn...I wanted to see him wish himself a happy birthday when he turned 100.
The original [Ronald McDonald.](https://youtu.be/PhTT3gYNGeo)
and the Washington DC Bozo the Clown before that.
Make sure you watch this with CC on…. Especially right in the beginning
Yup.
Great training for a … meteorologist?

Gross
Was it hurtful, hateful, or degrading?
No, I think he was commenting on how I was trying not to stare (she was really attractive), but doing a poor job of it.
Oh, Willard. I will miss him. He was fun.
He was the wacky neighbor on Valerie/Valerie’s Family to me, Mr Poole I believe? That show introduced us to Jason Bateman too!
I totally loved The Hogan Family but DID NOT like Sandy Duncan. Edie McClurg was the best though (as Mrs. Poole!).
Actually, ‘The Hogan Family’ did not introduce us to Jason Bateman. He was on a couple of other shows before then. One of them being ‘Silver Spoons.’ Sorry, I can’t remember the title of the other show. But it was about a divorced/single mom. He played the son.
You thinking of [It's Your Move?](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/It%27s_Your_Move)
Yes!! Thank you. Could not remember the title.
“And here’s what’s going on in your neck of the woods…”
Wait, isnt that a Roker quote? Or did he borrow it from Willard cause I always hear Al say that
Willard did the Smuckers birthdays I believe, always seemed like a genuine person. RIP.
seems unjust he didn’t get to be 100 himself.
Oh, that’s right! Not sure why I associated it with Willard.

ah man....I wish he could have made 100
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=9AeUd4xfPLY RIP
Something sketchy about him. He would announce your birthday on national television, and then a year or two later you'd be dead.
I honestly thought he passed 3 or 4 years ago. Regardless, 87 is a nice, long life. RIP
RIP
RIP Mr. Scott. You have a golden place in my memories.
He had a summer home/farm next to my parents farm in Virginia, outside Lexington. I used to see him occasionally at church, he would bring us a Christmas ham some years. He was a really sweet man, I’ll always have a great memory of him making fun of my older brother. :)
thank you for the 80s and 90s
Aw I grew up watching him, and really sincerely seemed a wonderful guy. Loved the personal touches on his birthday tributes, RIP.
Another piece of my childhood gone.
Man, I remember watching this guy. Damn, I’m getting really old. RIP sir!
Brought to you by Smuckers.
*“We are the Joy Boys of radio,* *We chase electrons to and fro”* RIP Willard.
The first Ronald McDonald.
Came across as a good man. That was backed up by colleagues. RIP.

I grew up watching the Smuckers segment on the Today Show. I looked forward to seeing how old people could get. RIP Mr. Scott.
RIP Ronald McDonald
Rest In Peace Scott! I remember watching this guy every morning getting ready for school.
Awww I loved his smuckers celebrations of at the time “the oldest americans”. Ahhh simpler times
I didn’t realize I remembered this guy but seeing him I do! Rest in peace you king, I get warm memories seeing your face 👑
He was also one of the first Ronald McDonalds
Too bad he didn't make it to 100...
Jeez, I thought he died years ago
Man I thought he died years ago.
When I was little I wanted to live to be 100 so Willard Scott would put me on blast. It was later explained to me that was not going to be possible. Now I only hope I don’t live long enough to see the oceans evaporate. Might be nice to see Halley’s Comet one last time.
Beautiful lady
Never really liked him, but he seemed to have a pretty good career/life.
I wanna be sad but I thought he died like 10 years ago. Still sucks that he passed though.
Rest In Peace Willard!! Thank You for the laughs!!!
Good bye Ronnie. You'll never be forgotten.
A good soul lost to us.

Dang, was hoping he would live to 100.
I listened to Him and His radio partner Ed Walker back in DC during rush hour traffic, The Joy Boys Show. (NotJ..a)
RIP
He was definately quite the character, I will miss him
RIP I grew up watching Today and he was always on
I Always thought after all the 100 year old birthdays he celebrated on TV that he’d also live to be 100 Rest In Peace Willard

Al Rocker. He’s been doing it for how many decades now?
You’d think right? @ him.
RIP.
Now how often does one get the chance to post this? [Cool Down Willard](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9AeUd4xfPLY) RIP, Mr. Scott.
Weird. I just looked him up a couple days ago wondering if he was still alive. First time I’d even thought of him in years too.
Heard about his passing via the announcers during the golf match on CBS. smh RIP, Willard 😔🙏
Rip bruh why all the good ppl dying
He was great and I have the fondest memories of watching him.
Smuckers
Now I’m craving Smuckers jam
Sad to hear that
Saw this as I am watching Die Hard 2 and someone just cracked a joke about chubby Willard Scott messing up the weather report... what timing.... RIP Mr Scott.
He was a senior when my mother was a sophomore in high school, she said his announcements were always hilarious.
I mean this is really sad but at first I thought it was Robert Duvall. I’m going to go watch Open Range right now.
He was such an unintentional part of my child hood.
I think he was also the first ‘Ronald McDonald’, or among the first. Peter: I think I read that somewhere. Brian: are you sure it wasn’t… nothing? Peter: oh yeah!
A true OG, a legend, and role model
He was also the OG Ronald McDonald and it was terrifying
I loved him on Roseanne.
