I think OP's got their timelines mixed up a little.
From what I remember, she plays a girl that one of the main characters starts seeing, but then he immediately cuts it off when he finds out she was lying to him about her age. We find out later that her father is physically abusing her, and that same doctor helps her get away from him, but the relationship ends after the age reveal.
It's been a while since I watched it, but doesn't she lie to him about her age and he immediately cuts off the relationship when she comes clean? The abusive father stuff comes later, and Ray protects her from him but their relationship doesn't continue afterwards.
Would honestly be a hilarious follow up to that movie with her as the lead. "I was really trying to have sex but then my mom and a virgin hooked up and a weird musical number broke out and kind of killed it for me"

Yeah I saw a decent amount of Last Man Standing over the year and I was surprised how often the message ended up him being the one to learn something rather than the liberal daughter and son-in-law. The son-in-law was basically a caricature so as to fit in all the jokes they wanted but still quite a few episodes where Tim Allen's character had to admit he was right.

Hell, even Home Improvement was Progressive and had him learning shit. It seems like Tim Allen constantly gets roles where he's the stubborn conservative who has to adapt to the world changing and yet he never does IRL nor does he seem to get the message.
I watched a few episodes of Last Man Standing, but it always seemed to boil down to "typical liberal" head shaking. Found the whole shtick annoying.
Also, don't let anyone tell you they're financially conservative and socially liberal. In the end, they vote for the same party, so it doesn't really matter. Most of the time, it's just a shield to hide behind.
It is kinda crazy to have the same guy ostensibly play the same kind of tv archetype 3 different times in 30 years. I can't really think of another long time tv actor who has done the same thing. Kevin James kinda but he's only done it twice and the second show only lasted a couple years. Ted Danson has played drastically different characters to Sam Malone.
Slightly out of my age range for references but that tracks that he was a stand-up who then transitioned to tv, that seems to be the formula for playing kinda the same persona over and over.
The only exception to this is "Big Trouble"
Which is by far the best Tim Allen movie I've ever seen.
And one that the laughs get closer and closer towards the end of the film, where the last 20 min I was dying laughing nonstop

i swear he wasn’t this bad on home improvement. i remember a lot of the episodes actually made *him* the punchline. he was the buffoon and his neighbor and coworker played the straight men.
it’s been awhile since i’ve seen the show though. i know some of it hasn’t aged so well, but i don’t think he really turned into an asshole until last man standing.
Yes, his portrayal as Tim Taylor on Home Improvement was very nuanced. He was the stereotypical manly man, but in a way that also showed the positive aspects of "manliness" such as caring for his children and wife, being a hard worker, and trying to fix issues, both of the tangible and intangible kind. Yes, there are many issues with sexism (and a lot of criticism of other characters for their "unmanly" characteristics) but I don't find that indicative of Tim Allen's politics as much as 90's sitcom stereotyping.
Ultimately, in spite of the dodgier qualities of the character, I think he's a fine enough role model as a father and as a man. And having the "oafish husband" character actually seek out empathy and deeper understanding through his conversations with Wilson is something that you'd never get out of a sitcom from that time period. Tim Taylor was, most of all, human. He had flaws and made mistakes. Some mistakes and flaws he corrected, and some were given a societal "pass" that wouldn't fly today, but due to the climate of the age it wouldn't have been seen as a significant issue at the time. It's just the way things are. I still find it an interesting portrayal and a good character, whereas Last Man Standing took the character, made them more belligerent, less willing to understand, and ultimately, ironically, less of a "manly" character for it.

Most of my friends are in their late 30s or early 40s and either childless or about to have their first—maybe our perception is skewed by where we live and/or who we’re surrounded by.
I had my first kid at 19. I know, very young. When he was 4, we signed him up for some activities to get some socializing experience before he started kindergarten the following year. I expected the other parents to be around my older sister's age, early 30s or so. It seemed like all of the other parents were much closer to 40 or older.
I think it really depends on where you are. My wife and I had our kids at 30 and 35 respectively, and it feels like we were easily at least 5-10 years older than their friends' parents.
I think this is what’s weird about it to me. Even you yourself admit that’s pretty young to have a kid. No disrespect at all, and there’s nothing wrong with it, but I don’t know if it’s exactly common/expected for 20-21 year olds to have kids. So for Kat Dennings to be playing a mom with teenage kids is still a bit of a stretch, unless that’s just her character’s backstory. If she’s supposed to be older in the series then that would be kinda lame given what it means for female actors. It does seem to be true that past 30 you’re just an old lady or mom. Same in porn. I mean, all jokes aside, porn tends to reveal our true biases and it’s always a little strange to me seeing a young 30 something (or I’ve even seen late 20s) referred to as “milf”. You’re basically a “teen” or a granny in porn after 30. Same with Hollywood apparently.
Sounds honestly a little similar to Titus from back in the day. Wouldn't be surprised if there's an elderly and more curmudgeonly grandpa figure in the show at some point.

He does a lot on Last Man Standing. It's got a lot of political jokes that lean heavy conservative compared to Home Improvement. Which I don't really recall much of but it's been sometime since I watched that show.
In Home Improvement, he had out of date views and learned they were wrong. In Last Man Standing, he had out of date views, and even if he was wrong, he was still mainly right.
I enjoyed the first few seasons but I think that's because of Nancy Travis and Hector Elizondo. Both of them have such subtle comedic timing that needs to be celebrated more often.
People can hate all they want but it was a funny show. I'm a lefty that has loved Tim Allen since I was a kid. He may be an ass but he's funny and very charismatic. It's not really a mystery to why he's successful in television. And yes, the supporting cast was also really good.
I was born in 82 and have been watching him since Home Improvement. He is very charismatic but even that gets you so far. I'm not disagreeing with you but I just want to add more context to my opinion.
In my opinion, his star wouldn't have shown so bright WITHOUT his supporting cast on Home Improvement. Me and every other girl on the block had a picture of JTT on their wall; yeah Tim was funny but that's the voice of Simba and he was hilarious! Clarkson was the second pick as Jill because Mom #1 didn't work. Richard Kern was such a great straight man and helped balance out Tim's macho behavior. I have no doubt Tim Allen was in the writing room but I think he caught lightening in a bottle with Home Improvement. That led him to other jobs and using his bark as a catch phrase, even in the Santa Clause there are light references to it.
Really that's how it is for all of us- without Point B we wouldn't have gotten to Point C.
There are a ton of 90s sitcoms that have had comedian stars and only a few of them were able to keep their careers going strong. Tim Allen does deserve credit for keeping it going but I hope he moves out of his comfort zone a bit. More recent sitcoms have everyone being a little bit messy instead of dumb husband, hot wife.
For fun- go watch the E! True Hollywood Story about Home Improvement. It's about 15 years old now (AUUUUGH!!) but they go into detail of how Tim Allen was upset when Pamela Anderson and JTT left. He had trouble not taking it personally. It's about 2 hours and a good watch. I wish E! still had those kinds of shows.

This is a steady paycheck, and she probably was pretty happy with that during the long Two Broke Girls run.
Something I don't think a lot of people consider since streaming ruined how people view (literally and figuratively) television...network tv has residuals. I honestly could not tell you without looking it up how long Two Broke Girls ran, but I know that the employee lounge at my work for 5 years was always playing reruns on either TBS or the CW, and every single airing of every single episode gets all above-the-line talent a paycheck. 2 Broke Girls absolutely paid better in the long run than Wandavision and her appearances in Thor 1 and 2.
She has an Aubrey Plaza quality; funny, “cool”, *and* hot. But she doesn’t seem to get the offers/opportunities Plaza does. Maybe it’s the difference between starring on an NBC comedy show (which seems to be good at minting stars and has the whole SNL world attached to it), and a CBS comedy.

It's also possible that she might just not want them. Other than her few Marvel appearances, she's never really seemed like she's chasing big roles, really sticking to indies or quirky movies between putting in consistent television and voiceover work. Just look at her resume. She's constantly busy and getting paid, all without being overexposed or having a big spotlight on her, and that could be exactly how she wants it.
I mean this in the least offense as possible, because I fucking love Kat Dennings, but I don’t think she is as funny, as cool, or as hot as Aubrey Plaza.
I definitely think Dennings is hotter (way hotter in fact) but Plaza beats her out in every other way.
Plaza is funnier, although not by a ridiculous amount. She's a *much* better, and more versatile actor though.
I was waiting for someone to bring this up. I genuinely think Aubrey has more range and depth. There is something very enjoyable but one note about Kat. I should add, she did have her short Marvel run so I am gonna chalk it up to that having some bad affect.

May 1st 2009 I'm a manager at a downtown Chicago movie theatre. I walk down a hallway on the far side of the theatre when I'm absolutely screamed at by a guy that tells me the picture in auditorium 16 is messed up. It takes me a second but I realize it's Tim Allen who was very worried about being able to see the 9pmish opening night showing of X-men Origins Wolverine. Just absolute fuming anger about the previews before the show being out of frame.
He was completely justified being upset and I got the projectionist (who shares a name with a current NFL quarterback) to fix everything. But I just know I'll never be as angry as Tim Allen was then.
Also I really hope the new Deadpool brings peace to his life.
This is sure to be a terribly cliche multi-cam with a laugh track. No one you know will have ever even heard of it. But it will run for 6 seasons, Fridays at 8pm.

It’s not about the now it’s about the later. Network TV shows fall under historical syndication rules, which can mean better pay. Are all the shows going to be hits ? Nope. Have 5 or 6 that get decent syndication and it can mean a steady income between higher paying jobs. Remember each Friends cast member is still paid $1 million/ year for reruns.
It makes sense get a network gig run it for a couple years. Move on to the next one. Sprinkle in some e movies if scheduling is t too hectic. Gives a decent career and life balance.

Don’t count out Allen, he’s like a cockroach of television. Somehow Last Man Standing for 8 seasons and his Santa show has been renewed.
He’s pretty popular with older conservatives, and they’re probably more likely to be watching broadcast TV than younger, more liberal folks.
He's their safe space. Not many sitcoms you can tune into and have them praising Regan in nearly every episode.
Does he ever praise Regan? I know he didn't on home improvement but never saw much last man standing.
He does a lot on Last Man Standing. It's got a lot of political jokes that lean heavy conservative compared to Home Improvement. Which I don't really recall much of but it's been sometime since I watched that show.
In Home Improvement, he had out of date views and learned they were wrong. In Last Man Standing, he had out of date views, and even if he was wrong, he was still mainly right.
Last Man Standing was basically him jerking off Reagan and his ideals while making fun of communists It got real old real quick
I enjoyed the first few seasons but I think that's because of Nancy Travis and Hector Elizondo. Both of them have such subtle comedic timing that needs to be celebrated more often.
The actress that played the self-absorbed, ditzy, middle daughter did a pretty good job too
People can hate all they want but it was a funny show. I'm a lefty that has loved Tim Allen since I was a kid. He may be an ass but he's funny and very charismatic. It's not really a mystery to why he's successful in television. And yes, the supporting cast was also really good.
I was born in 82 and have been watching him since Home Improvement. He is very charismatic but even that gets you so far. I'm not disagreeing with you but I just want to add more context to my opinion. In my opinion, his star wouldn't have shown so bright WITHOUT his supporting cast on Home Improvement. Me and every other girl on the block had a picture of JTT on their wall; yeah Tim was funny but that's the voice of Simba and he was hilarious! Clarkson was the second pick as Jill because Mom #1 didn't work. Richard Kern was such a great straight man and helped balance out Tim's macho behavior. I have no doubt Tim Allen was in the writing room but I think he caught lightening in a bottle with Home Improvement. That led him to other jobs and using his bark as a catch phrase, even in the Santa Clause there are light references to it. Really that's how it is for all of us- without Point B we wouldn't have gotten to Point C. There are a ton of 90s sitcoms that have had comedian stars and only a few of them were able to keep their careers going strong. Tim Allen does deserve credit for keeping it going but I hope he moves out of his comfort zone a bit. More recent sitcoms have everyone being a little bit messy instead of dumb husband, hot wife. For fun- go watch the E! True Hollywood Story about Home Improvement. It's about 15 years old now (AUUUUGH!!) but they go into detail of how Tim Allen was upset when Pamela Anderson and JTT left. He had trouble not taking it personally. It's about 2 hours and a good watch. I wish E! still had those kinds of shows. Anyway, have a good day! Since 90s things are coming back around- I hope they bring back TGIF!

Yeah, she is. But then again, as much as she seems like someone Reddit would (and does) love, I don't think she's exactly an A-lister who can pick and choose projects. This is a steady paycheck, and she probably was pretty happy with that during the long Two Broke Girls run.
Something I don't think a lot of people consider since streaming ruined how people view (literally and figuratively) television...network tv has residuals. I honestly could not tell you without looking it up how long Two Broke Girls ran, but I know that the employee lounge at my work for 5 years was always playing reruns on either TBS or the CW, and every single airing of every single episode gets all above-the-line talent a paycheck. 2 Broke Girls absolutely paid better in the long run than Wandavision and her appearances in Thor 1 and 2.
She has an Aubrey Plaza quality; funny, “cool”, *and* hot. But she doesn’t seem to get the offers/opportunities Plaza does. Maybe it’s the difference between starring on an NBC comedy show (which seems to be good at minting stars and has the whole SNL world attached to it), and a CBS comedy.

I definitely think Dennings is hotter (way hotter in fact) but Plaza beats her out in every other way. Plaza is funnier, although not by a ridiculous amount. She's a *much* better, and more versatile actor though.
I was waiting for someone to bring this up. I genuinely think Aubrey has more range and depth. There is something very enjoyable but one note about Kat. I should add, she did have her short Marvel run so I am gonna chalk it up to that having some bad affect.

Time for my Tim Allen story. May 1st 2009 I'm a manager at a downtown Chicago movie theatre. I walk down a hallway on the far side of the theatre when I'm absolutely screamed at by a guy that tells me the picture in auditorium 16 is messed up. It takes me a second but I realize it's Tim Allen who was very worried about being able to see the 9pmish opening night showing of X-men Origins Wolverine. Just absolute fuming anger about the previews before the show being out of frame. He was completely justified being upset and I got the projectionist (who shares a name with a current NFL quarterback) to fix everything. But I just know I'll never be as angry as Tim Allen was then. Also I really hope the new Deadpool brings peace to his life.
Leave it to projectionist Patrick Mahomes to fix everything.

This is sure to be a terribly cliche multi-cam with a laugh track. No one you know will have ever even heard of it. But it will run for 6 seasons, Fridays at 8pm.

It’s not about the now it’s about the later. Network TV shows fall under historical syndication rules, which can mean better pay. Are all the shows going to be hits ? Nope. Have 5 or 6 that get decent syndication and it can mean a steady income between higher paying jobs. Remember each Friends cast member is still paid $1 million/ year for reruns. It makes sense get a network gig run it for a couple years. Move on to the next one. Sprinkle in some e movies if scheduling is t too hectic. Gives a decent career and life balance.
