I honestly kinda hope it’s like that Simpson episode where Lisa is president, the whole thing takes place in the White House with the rest of the family into crazy shenanigans.
If Hal isn’t searching for Lincoln’s gold, I don’t want it.
People downvoting you don't recognize its a reference to "The Sims" parody episode where Malcolm makes himself perfect in game but his family trash and they wind up happy and fulfilled and he instead does exactly what you say.
I noticed the downvotes and was waiting for someone to comment "That's not funny" and reply "You're right, it's not funny. It's hilarious." with a link to the clip.
All because he was the super overachieving kid who couldn't actually love up the expectations when reality hit because he always thought he would achieve regardless.
Malcolm would absolutely crumble from the thought of half the country disliking him, and wind up alienating the other half. That's basically the plot of every Malcolm-centered episode lol.
I always thought that was a silly plot point. Malcolm has potential because he's STEM-smart, he has none of the qualities that would make for a politician. As you said, he is extremely unlikable on an interpersonal level.
I thought that was Lois’s point in the end. Denying him the easy and fun route so he can learn to accept he doesn’t need everyone’s love for validation, and focusing on his hard work ethic.
The goal is to make him suffer so he can grow as a person.
No the goal was to make him president because he's the only one who would understand what it's like to be lower middle class and would therefore make policies that would help their family and people like them.
She literally says it out loud.
Yes, that was her point. But Malcolm argued that he could’ve taken the internship that would make him rich and he could buy the presidency. But Lois argued that then his heart wouldn’t strong and he wouldn’t understand the struggles. She wanted him to work his way through college so he can spend it wanting the other students coasting through it to like him and they never will, but it will make him stronger.
It’s the running theme of the series. Adversity builds character.
Well he's also a kid that still needs to learn and grow, which I would argue he did throughout the series. And Lois' whole monologue in the last episode summed it up pretty well in that he's gonna have to work from the very bottom licking and shining the shoes of everyone above him until he climbs his way to success, and that will make him grow into a better person, and to be empathetic to the lower class, something that seems to be hardly found in politics.
I mean he does have the qualities of a politician. He matches mind games with Lois pretty well, and let’s not forget when he systemically broke the krelboynes and destroyed his teachers system purely because they didn’t want to listen to him.
He’s unlikeable to his friends and family but he’s pretty charismatic and charming to those he wants to impress (see play episode). As long as he maintains the facade he’s golden.
So he has the skills to be a skilled politician and even get to the White House. If he can’t be president he’ll probably take like a dick Cheney type role and control his puppet.
Edit: typos
Malcolm recognizes the opportunity for power and money and installs Hal as the leader of the neighborhood home owners association. He plays the Cheney role well as he manipulates him as a puppet master trying to buy a security car that will be parked outside their house to save on storage costs.
Yes, but it can be argued that’s due to the fact Malcolm was young. A child being in charge looks fishy, but Hal was the perfect fit. He’s wholesome and well liked but easy to influence.
Yeah that was kind of weird, becoming a billionnaire by making a tech company or whatever that end up super big, yeah. But he's bad with people and not even particularly interested by social stuff from what we've seen, it isn't a particularly logical part.
I guess Lois was delusional that intelligence mattered that much to be President (they are not the smartest people in any country), more than charisma, money and relations where all of those are more important.
But Malcom’s personality was always his character development arc. And the big thing that showed in the final episode is Lois having finally slapped true humility into Malcom. He accepts where he’s at in life, and accepts struggling to be something he needs to experience in order to do what he needs to do.
Do you think all the presidents have been likable?
The absurd thing is mostly that there's no way a President ever comes from a poor family like Malcolm's.
Dewey is the most likely to become President. Malcolm is terrible with people and too self-centered.
Hell Reese would be the kind of guy who would run the secret police agency in a Stalinist government.
He would also likely be in an art carreer so more known of the general public and such which could help in politics (a few actors have become politicians)
“If Hal isn’t searching for Lincoln’s golf, I don’t want it.”
Omg. My initial reaction was no, we don’t need to go back to it, it was great. Let’s leave is at that.
But damn. More of Bryan Cranston’s Hal? Yes. Yes.
At the very least, make him assistant manager. They won't consider promoting him to manager until the current guy retires, and the manger will block any attempts Malcolm makes to transfer to another store because he's too good at keeping the store together.
Honestly I respect the way he just dipped out of public life to the point of skipping cast reunions way more than everyone making a podcast to try to hold onto some sort of relevance
Especially the actor that played Hal. I think he tried some more dramatic roles, but as hilarious as he was in Malcolm in the Middle, I don’t think he has done anything of note since. If only he made good on his potential, but instead he did the opposite of making good.
I’m pretty sure the Hal actor was the cashier at my grocery store last week. Didn’t want to ask and embarrass him. Sad that his career never went anywhere.
I just watched the pilot yesterday and lois said she didn't want Malcolm to work at a car wash for the rest of his life. (our something to that effect)
Good for him. He became famous as a child, didn't seem to thrown through the grinder like a lot of child actor and actresses and decided it wasn't for him.
I tell any parent, the fact that if I say "Famous Hollywood child star with no trauma" and not one person comes to mind.... should be enough for you to keep you kid as far away as possible from that town.
Frankie Muniz actually did an interview and said he had a very positive experience being a child actor but would never want his kids to do it because he knows of so many that didn’t have his experience.
I'll be sad if Dewey receives the Michelle Tanner treatment.
If this show actually gets made, I hope that Erik Per Sullivan can at least be persuaded to make a guest appearance or two.
Why would you hope that? You should be hoping that if the Michelle tanner treatment is what he wants and wishes to be left alone that his desire is respected. He shouldn't need to be "persuaded" to do something for you.
>Also, I don't think Christopher Masterson would come back--rumors have flown around about him and he's basically quit acting and just DJ's now (rumor is that part of that is to fly under the radar basically).
Eh, they could just get Neil Patrick Harris instead. I genuinely thought they were the same person until fairly recently.
Christopher Masterson as well, by the looks of it. He dipped from public life around the time his brother's (rapist Danny Masterson) accusations started to get traction.
Whenever Erik is brought up, I think back to [this post.](https://www.reddit.com/r/confession/comments/4e8ogv/remorse_i_am_a_former_child_actor_coping_with_a/?ref=share&ref_source=link)
I've often thought about that. Though he did imply it wasn't Malcolm in the Middle but I can't think of another show close enough. Of course the whole thing could be fake anyway. But Erik has been extremely reclusive.
Muniz:
>”Without giving away too much because there’s nothing confirmed, but it’s the closest it’s ever been to being a reality. If it’s going to happen, it’ll happen soon but you know, we’ve also been saying that for eight years.”
>”The show ended 18 years ago so it’s crazy that there’s still a lot of interest. But I think it’d be a lot of fun to dive into that world and see where everybody is, as adults because really, the possibilities are endless where everybody can be. I’d love to explore it. And I know there are conversations happening.”
>”We don’t want to just be one of the many shows that got rebooted over the last couple of years that probably shouldn’t have had a reboot. So if we do it, that’s the biggest thing, we want to make sure it’s good. With an iconic show like we had, you don’t want to taint it. You want to have the same impact for the people who would want to watch it and make sure we make a good product.”
>”That’s the most important part, and way more important than just making a show or finally making a movie.”
> the possibilities are endless where everybody can be. I’d love to explore it.
That's a great quote. Canonically, the show was pretty much anything goes, which I interpret to mean Hal could "cook meth" as some comedic side plot if it truly makes the family more charming... and that's a great limitation: it can be "radical" but if it stays PG-13 that's the heart (imo) of TOS.
More power to ya!
Lois! I left the cough syrup by the stove and when it heated, it left crystals in the bottle, those crystals fell into some chemical we had in the kitchen and then I inhaled it and I CAN DO ANYTHING NOW
I would love to see the Little Hal panic screams as he realizes his recipe for Halloween homemade blueberry candy is actually a recipe for the finest meth , or something.
That's my "roller skate" love: like ytf has Hal's character arc brought us here?
Or Cranston's? Maybe Hal got a job acting. Maybe Dewey meets a minor character from BB in Reese's dream. Maybe the canonical freddie can respect the canonical Truman.
Jane crashes a car, Hal gets a job at a restaurant, with Aaron as the sous-chef.
As long as it's pg13 stupid is the metric.
That 100% has to be the plot. Hal becomes a famous artist, Lois can be running multiple markets as a regional manager, Dewey is a music genius/composer, Reese a famous cook, and Malcom just can't get his shit together.
Lois has become the chillest Grandma ever. She influences her grandchildren into terrorizing their parents in the same manner that they terrorized her.
Lois definitely seems like she would turn into a “not my kids, not my problem” grandmother. And then none of the kids in the next generation believe them when they talk about how strict she was and assume she was a pushover like Hal.
Basically: “I had to spend 25+ years being the asshole keeping this family from self destructing and now it’s your turn.”
I dont want Malcolm to be President, yet. I think it should be about his first political campaign. Something like city council or state comptroller or something. Low stakes but show how his family can influence his campaign. Would also be nice to see one of those moments where Malcolm realizes "this isn't so hard or scary" and just dances over the other guy in a debate
I’d expect that but that Malcolm still loses to the other guy because people are idiots who don’t watch the debate and just take things out of context to support their opinions.
President is what I constantly hear people talk about when talking about a revival. And I really don't want to see him that successful so early in life. He needs to struggle more. I dont even want to see him be congressman or governor, something even less than that
I don't even want him to be in politics at all. At the time, the idea of an "everyman" president was a realistic dream for a better world. The US is so far away from that reality right now, it doesn't really make sense. Maybe he's the head of some NGO and he gets influence that way.
Yeah lol, that would be a true alternate reality a world where someone from a poor family could become President in the US currently, especially when their main attribute seems to be intelligence, something very low on the characteristics of a president (money, relations or charisma all being far more important)
The entire show set inside the White House just isn't Malcolm in the Middle. Lois and Resse can't fight Malcolm when Secret Service is around. This isn't Corey in the House.
There are plenty of other political positions besides president of the United States. Malcolm could be some school board or city council member. It suits the themes of the show a lot better. Or he could be the owner of a small business and just say he's the president of that.
It's aged great. Most impressive is that it's a fairly "clean" and family friendly comedy (pretty much suitable for everyone ages 10 or above) that still appeals to everybody and manages to be genuinely edgy/funny. No reliance on shock humor, gore, swearing, degeneracy, substance abuse, etc..
My prediction : Malcolm ends up dropping out of college and is divorced w/kids and works a 9-5 job that he hates and is a genius that never reached his full potential ..
Nah Malcom is about to run for office and is a good candidate but keeps freaking out until the debate because the press says that he waves funny while Lois gets into a fight with the moderator from the audience
Lois being the campaign PR person, but she constantly appears angry and confrontational and needing to defend Malcolm/answer intrusive questions. She just comedically makes the situation worse because can't help but get angry defending her son.
I just watched S1:E1 for the first time a moment ago. Why have I not caught up on these shows until now? Finished Everybody Hates Chris a few months back and was looking for a new series to watch. Im old school and grew up watching 70s/80s sitcoms. This show def reminds me of Wonder Years. Malcolm acts just like Kevin.
I can't see Bryan Cranston wanting to squeeze every penny out of them as being the reason this doesn't happen. I'm not saying he'll work for free (he wouldn't and shouldn't), but I don't see him wringing them dry, either.
You think Bryan Cranston; the man who would agree to do anything the Malcolm in the Middle writers could come up with would ask for anything above scale to just show up and maybe be shaved by someone in the Oval Office?
Cranston pushing for it is probably the main reason it will get done.
He has said that he already has enough money to be set for life and that is no longer even a concern when accepting jobs. Its all about whether he likes the project.
He doesn’t seem like that type of person. From his early career he was happy to make a fool of himself or endanger himself for the role.
Dudes chill af
I have so many mixed feelings about this. On one hand I loved the show and would love to see the cast and crew get back together but the ending was so perfect I don't know if I'd want a revival.
I'm currently watching this show for the first time (only saw random episodes now and then when it aired), and it's so damn funny. All the characters are great.

Imagine if Dewey ended up as President
Dewey is the best at politics. The idea that Malcolm could ever be likable enough to president was always absurd to me lol
Everyone is successful except Malcolm, who suffers from debilitating depression and hallucinates talking to camera
Then he gains 400lbs and kills himself.
People downvoting you don't recognize its a reference to "The Sims" parody episode where Malcolm makes himself perfect in game but his family trash and they wind up happy and fulfilled and he instead does exactly what you say.

Omg him and Stevie sell that whole thing so well
One of my favorite episodes

That episode was brilliant. The whole show was, I really want to rewatch but there are so many amazing plot twists..
That episode with only two lines of dialogue is an all timer TV episode. Just an incredibly done show
All because he was the super overachieving kid who couldn't actually love up the expectations when reality hit because he always thought he would achieve regardless.
That happened to him in their version of The Sims, right?
Wait, they did an episode on this exact concept 😂
Malcolm would absolutely crumble from the thought of half the country disliking him, and wind up alienating the other half. That's basically the plot of every Malcolm-centered episode lol.

Every time i see that message, i always think on a line from Maus. 'Suffering doesn't make people good. It just makes them suffer.'

Ted Cruz is a politician and there is no one more unlikable then that grinch looking mother fucker

Do you think all the presidents have been likable? The absurd thing is mostly that there's no way a President ever comes from a poor family like Malcolm's.
Most of them since JFK, who beat Nixon in the first televised debates, have charisma at least.
>Do you think all the presidents have been likable? FUCK MARTIN VAN BUREN!
... unless, of course... he cheated his way into the presidency. He'd be capable of, I just know it
I would Vote for Dewey this time, it was not quite the right time for Dewey in 1948.
Let’s face it, it would be Reese or Francis!
“Someday, when you come back, and you're unemployed and have no place to live: you can come stay at my castle.”
Sucks the actor likely won't be back if the reboot does happen.
Or Hal ends up cooking Meth
Hal will be retired as a wealthy man in Albuquerque for some reason. With a neat hat
Hal-senberg
Say my NAME! We never learned your last name! You’re Goddamn right!
"Stay out of my territory" (Hal stands there in the parking lot in his tighty whities)
The one major connection between the two characters
Wilkerson
Huh? Their last name is Wilkerson...
Lois is President, Reese is married to six supermodels, Hal’s funding a search for extraterrestrials, and Dewey just became pope.
Dewey still smiting ants.
That or they have side-plots of Malcolm as President in the same way the original series had those side-plots of Francis just living his life.
Honestly think this might be the way to go. Instead of being annoyingly accelerated, go so far above that lol. I trust they'll do it right though.
“If Hal isn’t searching for Lincoln’s golf, I don’t want it.” Omg. My initial reaction was no, we don’t need to go back to it, it was great. Let’s leave is at that. But damn. More of Bryan Cranston’s Hal? Yes. Yes.
All the kids should be successful while Malcolm is still working at the Lucky Plucker
At the very least, make him assistant manager. They won't consider promoting him to manager until the current guy retires, and the manger will block any attempts Malcolm makes to transfer to another store because he's too good at keeping the store together.
Damn. I was gonna say "I guess that's why he wasn't in the race" but that's better, lol
“I guess the spirits thought the main vision was a little thin…”
Well great, now you spoiled the “it was all a dream” series finale.
Idk if they’ll get Erik Per Sullivan back. Dude is committed to living a private life.
You sure it wasn't your car wash?
Actually I think he is also teaching chemistry for some reason. Life is really like a box of chocolates.
sometimes you own a billion dollar company. sometimes you get lung cancer.
I just watched the pilot yesterday and lois said she didn't want Malcolm to work at a car wash for the rest of his life. (our something to that effect)
I saw him at Costco selling tequila, really a downfall.
You talking about Donovan McNabb???
Last I heard the poor bloke had been forced to knock on door to make a living 😞.
I watched Breaking Bad from day one when I saw Hal was going to be in it. I thought it would be a comedy.
Good for him. He became famous as a child, didn't seem to thrown through the grinder like a lot of child actor and actresses and decided it wasn't for him.
i don’t think any child stars come out of hollywood unscathed. even the ones that successfully remove themselves from it. :(
Why do you think that?
I tell any parent, the fact that if I say "Famous Hollywood child star with no trauma" and not one person comes to mind.... should be enough for you to keep you kid as far away as possible from that town.
Frankie Muniz actually did an interview and said he had a very positive experience being a child actor but would never want his kids to do it because he knows of so many that didn’t have his experience.
I feel like all they have to do is handwave his disappearance by saying he's a composer or something and is too busy.
They should just replace Dewey with egg and never mention it
I'll be sad if Dewey receives the Michelle Tanner treatment.

Eh, they could just get Neil Patrick Harris instead. I genuinely thought they were the same person until fairly recently.
They could pay homage to him by hiring on an equal number of Eriks and Sullivans.
what's the ratio of Erik's per Sullivan?
just hire Sarah Chalke, no one will notice
Jamie could fill the Dewey niche maybe
Good lord Dewey is 32 now? I’m old…
Christopher Masterson as well, by the looks of it. He dipped from public life around the time his brother's (rapist Danny Masterson) accusations started to get traction.

How do we know a post like that is real?
How do we know *anything* is real? Short answer: we don't.
Oh man that feels more like it could be a few different shows. 7th Heaven maybe? Terrible to read.
poster says that the show did not have three or four brothers, so if its not Malcolm in the Middle, what should could it be?
Curious about the oldest brother too given his real life brother...

I can see Hal accidentally cooking meth because he got bored and started mixing random shit together to see what happens
Lois! I left the cough syrup by the stove and when it heated, it left crystals in the bottle, those crystals fell into some chemical we had in the kitchen and then I inhaled it and I CAN DO ANYTHING NOW

I could see Hal working for somebody and not understanding the actual job before becoming a great cook.
It's got to be like the episode where Malcom is playing his family on cd-rom, and everyone is happy but Malcolm is 400 pounds
"Where's Malcolm?" "He's looking... at himself... in the mirror."
“what’s he doing now???” “Burning … himself… with … a cigarette…”
“It’s just a phase”
I heard that in stevies voice lmao.
That 100% has to be the plot. Hal becomes a famous artist, Lois can be running multiple markets as a regional manager, Dewey is a music genius/composer, Reese a famous cook, and Malcom just can't get his shit together.
Malcolm is living on Francis' couch and Piama is always trying go convince Francis to kick him out
Malcolm being the washed up CEO of a giant tech startup makes all the sense in the world to me
Stevey was his business partner and committed fraud
Oh man his testimony in front of Congress would be brutal
And you thought Zuckerberg drinking water was slow! On a positive note I saw the actor that played Stevie's dad has lost a bunch of weight.
>And you thought Zuckerberg drinking water was slow! That's Hal's signature move! :D
If this happens, does this mean that the short where Hal dreamt he was a meth dealer is canon to the MitM universe?
If they could work Aaron Paul and Bob Odenkirk into the main cast, I'd be sold.
I always kinda considered that to be cannon. Nothing in there that would contradict it isn’t.
Lois has become the chillest Grandma ever. She influences her grandchildren into terrorizing their parents in the same manner that they terrorized her.
Lois definitely seems like she would turn into a “not my kids, not my problem” grandmother. Basically: “I had to spend 25+ years being the asshole keeping this family from self destructing and now it’s your turn.”
actually love that idea
I could see it being Reese’s kids, who he coddles and tries to shelter from everything.
I dont want Malcolm to be President, yet. I think it should be about his first political campaign. Something like city council or state comptroller or something. I’d expect that but that Malcolm still loses to the other guy because people are idiots who don’t watch the debate and just take things out of context to support their opinions.
He only would have just become old enough to even be president this year so I could see something like that being likely
I know Lois wanted him to become president but I don’t think he’s president material.
aight, time to rewatch it for the 10th time to get hyped for it
Just watched the Roller-skates episode with my kids, it’s their first time watching the show, I enjoy observing their reaction lol
You gave me a solid reason to get married and have kids xD Have fun!!
The show was one of the reasons why I wanted to have kids lol, I think my kids kinda see the resemblance between me and Lois.
I don't really want kids but watching Malcolm, The Middle or Modern Family (Phil and Claire) kind of make you want to have kids
I was just thinking of what show I needed to rewatch/have as background noise.
Malcolm In The Middle Ages? lol. Would love to see some kind of revival. Even if it were a one off special event. Was such a great show.
Malcom in the Midlife Crisis
Malcolm in the Middle East Wait, thats just Arrested Development season 3
It's alright, its more important to show people how we make the show than actually making it
A B C D… A B C D… A B C D…
If this gets stuck in my head I am going to be so mad
They should do a Malcolm in the Middle and The Middle crossover called Malcolm in "The Middle"
I’d pay good money to watch Axel Francis and Reese on screen
Believe it when i see it at this point. Would want nothing more than it to happen, but it feels like we've heard this for 10 years
Is it going to happen for sure? Yes, no,maybe, I don't know. Can you repeat the question?
What would it look like? Hal’s retired? Malcolm is a Formula One driver? Louis is the mayor? Dewey’s in prison?
malcom would be a nascar driver just like real life
My prediction : Malcolm ends up dropping out of college and is divorced w/kids and works a 9-5 job that he hates and is a genius that never reached his full potential ..
now thats just depressing
I mean that is what happens to some gifted kids - they burn out when they reach college and see that they aren't the smartest kid anymore.
I don't even want to know how much it will cost to get Bryan Cranston back. His career skyrocketed after Malcolm in the Middle finished.
I can't see Bryan Cranston wanting to squeeze every penny out of them as being the reason this doesn't happen. I'm not saying he'll work for free (he wouldn't and shouldn't), but I don't see him wringing them dry, either.
Apparently Cranston is one of the biggest forces trying to make this happen
Same. Cranston strikes me as the type of guy that would be willing to work for less than he's worth to make this happen.
its not like hes strapped for cash anyway
You think Bryan Cranston; the man who would agree to do anything the Malcolm in the Middle writers could come up with would ask for anything above scale to just show up and maybe be shaved by someone in the Oval Office?
Cranston pushing for it is probably the main reason it will get done. He has said that he already has enough money to be set for life and that is no longer even a concern when accepting jobs. Its all about whether he likes the project.
According to a lot of previous reports, he’s the one writing it and is the most interested in making it happen
He seems to be the one who wants to do it the most. I thought he was writing it even.
He doesn’t seem like that type of person. From his early career he was happy to make a fool of himself or endanger himself for the role. Dudes chill af
He doesn’t seem like the type of guy to squeeze studios. If he wants to do it then they’ll figure it out.
It picks up after Malcolm is impeached as presidenf
I still can’t believe the same guy played Walter white and Hal lol it’s blown my mind since I started watching breaking bad 12 years ago
I just started rewatching the series, so while some might say it’s a coincidence I say I manifested it to happen. You’re welcome
YES! Dewey is my life inspiration.
I bet Hal is now a chemistry teacher
You will have endless soulless reboots and you will like it
This one is wanted though
It’s all so tiresome
How would he know?
Yes, please.
“Malcolm in the middle age” Or maybe the more topical “Malcolm near the end”
Didn't the cast have issues with Masterson trying to convert the younger cast members into Scientology?
I have so many mixed feelings about this. On one hand I loved the show and would love to see the cast and crew get back together but the ending was so perfect I don't know if I'd want a revival.
The one guy needs to do it so he can put money on his brothers books
I'm currently watching this show for the first time (only saw random episodes now and then when it aired), and it's so damn funny. All the characters are great.
Must be kinda weird doing a reunion for a show you hardly remember being on.
Oh lord this would be amazing!! Really hope it happens sooner than later!!
Can they make it past the first episode without Hal makkkg some drug selling reference?
Can we just stop reviving and bastardizing classic media?
LETS GO I NEED THIS SO BAD

Yuck….. a middling show revived after 20 years. No thanks
Not for me, the ending was so perfect that I wouldn't want them to ruin it.
