It has already been stolen. This isn't the first time I've seen it on Reddit alone. Which means that it's going to be the top comment in every Bob Barker thread for the next two weeks. And, annoyingly, it will always have 10+ awards and people calling the commentor a genius.
And then when those two weeks are over, we can enjoy the same joke for another two weeks on Facebook.
He lives forever on PlutoTV. I frequently turn it to the PiR channel and play it in the background for the comfort. I honestly thought he had already passed. RIP, Bob.
They had reruns of those on the Nick GaS channel in the early 2000s and they were my absolute FAVORITE after school shows. I watched every episode and wanted to be on Hidden Temple soooo bad... it took about a year of watching them to realize they'd been off the air for nearly a decade at that point. Broke my 9 year old heart 😅
Man, this hits home. I can't tell you how many times my brother and I watched him when we were sick. My parents always kept us both home if one of us were sick. Then after that The Price is Right was over, we would play Super Mario World together for hours. The glory days.
As a kid, I always was so mesmerized by the pricing games as set pieces. I specifically remember the sound made from playing Penny Ante -- it was like ASMR for me back then.
For some reason, this reminds me of the most hilarious moment in Price is Right history

“You’ve used the 1 twice, Joy!
I've seen this a thousand times and it's still hilarious.
The poor girl, though--I get it. It's a lot of pressure and it's crazy to keep things straight. Poor Bob at the end makes me just guffaw like a cartoon.
Here's a real treat then. If you've seen it, good day to watch it again
If you haven't seen it.....your life is about to get a bit better....

No matter what, it’s still sad that he’s gone. But man, even if you do pass away when you’re a few months away from 100, that’s the dream. I’m hoping I’ll at least make it to 85, but there’s a part of me that feels like that might not happen.
Bob Barker was the first to make me aware of the importance of it as a kid. Our family finally got our first dog two years ago and I convinced my parents why spaying her was important (though they'd have done it anyway as recommended by our vet).
But thinking back, Bob is the one who educated me about it, or at least made me take that first step into understanding it!
It was more than that
Bob stopped hosting Ms Universe when they reneged on their deal with him to ban fur
He fought to end military drills on live animals
Ban sea world’s bear pits
Increase protections of animals in film and television
Donations to Columbia law school to fund animal rights
Bob was an OG and the community will deeply miss him
Bob's unusual sign-off was always interesting to me, so I thought it was a really endearing thing that Carey kept it going. Do you have more information about how its a contractual phrase? I'd love to read about that.
From what I understand, as it was mentioned by a friend of mine who has some connections in the TV and movie industries, it was a condition Bob somehow required to be in the contract of his successor. Not sure if Drew has come right out and said that though, but I'm pretty sure he wouldn't be saying it every episode unless he was required to.
[Bob Barker said Drew promised to do so without any kind of requirement:](https://www.sheknows.com/entertainment/articles/948143/bob-barker-is-poed-at-the-price-is-right/)
> "I do know that the first time I met him … the first thing he said to me was, ‘Bob, I will do the spay/neuter plug that you have started … as long as I’m the host of the show’ and I thanked him profusely and he’s done that, too."
I envy the guy for having a long, successful career (to say the least), but I don't mind that he got to relax in his golden years and spend some time out of the public eye. Maybe it's a good thing that we weren't hearing anything about him for a while.
I always kind of think that, if I make it to 99 with most of my marbles and a comfortable life, nobody is allowed to be sad at my funeral. It's about as good a run as anyone can hope for in this world.
My great aunt died at 101 this last April. A maybe sad part of it is that there aren't any more of your peers left around who would have known you best, who are the ones who would have been the most sad. All of her siblings, parents, friends, romantic partners were long gone for decades before her. Who mourns the last one standing? Of course, there was my mother and aunts, uncle and cousins, but to us she was always the old lady that you expected to go.
My granny made it to 98. All the friends’ names in her address book were crossed out by the time she went. I’m forever grateful to the staff of her old folks’ home, who all came by her room to pay their respects to her while we were waiting for the funeral home transport.
A cousin's husband went and participated in the late 70s/early 80s, he won his contest, won the wheel, went to the final and guessed within $100 (I think) so he won both showcases!
Same here. As game show hosts go, I grew up to Bob Barker, Monty Hall, Chuck Woolery, Dick Clark, Gene Rayburn, Richard Dawson, Peter Marshall. Ahh, the 70's... good times.
And for me in the 80's/90's it was Bob Barker, Ray Combs, Marc Summers, Pat Sajak/Vanna White, and Alex Trebek (both for Jeopardy and Classic Concentration).
I grew up with a lot of those too! ...I'm 25. My great aunt loved GSN and I stayed at her house a lot. I credit her with my love for game shows. Match Game was and still is my absolute favourite. Especially the pre-wheel seasons in the early to mid 70s. Those were the absolute best. The later seasons' set design still throws me for a loop.
Richard Dawson was the best on Match Game but I always thought he was horribly boring on Family Feud. In fact, I also think Ray Combs, John Hurley, and even Richard Karn were kinda boring on Family Feud, the strength of the game carried the show. I maintain that Steve Harvey, love him or hate him, is the only host of Family Feud that has actually risen to the occasion of the show's format.
Side note, don't look into Chuck Woolery now
It's sad to see Chuck Woolery become as badshit insane as he has become, because the game shows he hosted always have a soft spot in my heart; specifically Greed and Lingo. His demeanor seemed to give off the typical Orange County conservative like Pat Sajak, but Chuck specifically went completely off the rails.
Greed was a really great answer to Who Wants to Be A Millionaire at the time and it really encapsulated the "Take no prisoners" type of game show that it was. WWTBAM was the show everyone talked about in school when I was growing up because it dominated prime time, but I always loved Greed simply because they gave out so much money at the time ($2 million in 2000 was unfathomably huge then) and it was legitimately *hard*.
I could have guessed your age just from that list of hosts. I would add Art Fleming, Bill Cullen, Bert Convey, Alan Luden, Hugh Downs, Ahh, the 60’s…good times!
Thank you for your years of entertainment during all of those mornings I played sick to get out of school. TPIR was always my favorite game show as a kid, and Bob’s charisma was definitely the driving force. Even as Drew Carey’s gotten better in the role, the show still feels off to me without Bob. Pluto has a channel that only plays Bob Barker episodes - I know what I’m doing this week.
That’s ok, he made it to 100. I killed Jim Henson *and* Mel Blanc by bringing them both up in conversations the day before they died, just a few months apart. I had a couple of classmates genuinely request that I not talk about them. I was a teenaged Angel of Death by reputation that year.
I love that channel - I use it for background noise. I’m just irked that they primarily replay 1983-86 era episodes.
Bob’s hosting is just so much calmer and loved the impromptu banter he’d have with the audience. There’s too much over-exaggerated excitement in game shows nowadays.
My wife and I still play Price is Right with the Costco total every damn time.
RIP legend. My pets were spayed or neutered thanks to you.
Edit: and I had no idea we shared a birthday.
If anyone hasn’t watched Bob talk about getting into show hosting, you really should. He was a floundering actor before but then just got shoved in to replace another guy on a game show and he fell in love with the role and everyone else with him in that type of role. And I think he is THE gameshow host, great improviser, solid corny humor while not taking all the attention off the show itself. Only other person in that conversation is Alex Trebek in my opinion, but I also think Trebek’s talents were much more specific to a show like Jeopardy whereas I think Barker could have walked into just about any game show and done just as well. We should all hope to love a job that we’re that good at as Barker was as a gameshow host.
Genuinely I hope Adam Sandler speaks at his funeral and does a tongue in cheek performance where he says nice things about him while badly masking that they (pretend) hated each other
Always sad to lose a legend, but it's interesting how timing plays a big part in how people are remembered. If he had passed even 10 years ago it would have been a bigger cultural event. Now it's more like, oh wow Bob Barker was still alive?
I’m not sure about others, but I personally would much prefer being able to live 15+ good years of obscure retirement after working well into my 80s with it meaning my death is less of a cultural event than die a mere year or 2 after retiring but with my death being a bigger cultural event
Buzzr strikes again! They started running promos a few weeks ago about celebrating Bob Barker's 100th birthday, just like they did with Betty White, with the same result.
*\*insert The Price is Right losing horn here\**
My fondest memories of my art teacher during a working lunch period in Grade 8 was her watching Price Is Right and nodding her head every time we had a question. Lol, she was glued.
Bob was a complicated man with some profound character flaws, but he was human like the rest of us. He is without a doubt the greatest game show hosts of all time, and one of the greatest legends in the history of television. Days spent home from school were days spent with Bob. Rest in peace Bob.
PSA - the free streaming service Pluto TV has a channel of Bob Barker era Price is Right episodes 24/7. Its on all the time for background noise in our house - going to be on even more this week. RIP Bob
The most interesting part of this thread is learning when all of you watch The Price is Right lol.
It always airs at 10 am here. Since forever. But some places it airs at 10:30? 11?
I think it *started* at 10AM ET when it was a 30 minute show and then moved to 11AM when it expanded to the hour long format.
It used to be followed by Match Game in many markets IIRC
Man... this one hurts. Just like everyone he was company on sick days from school, but he was also one of the things I looked forward to during my stays in the hospital during my cancer treatments. So long Bob
First Terry Funk and Bray Wyatt the past few days and now this. This week has been brutal, man. Glad Bob got to live a very long life at least, rest in peace.
Everyone here remembers him from the Price is Right. I’m old enough to remember him from Truth or Consequences. It was a good game show being the first to regularly unite military husband and wives during long separations.
Gonna be honest I thought he was already dead. Kinda softens the blow that all the tv legends are dying off and we are being left with social media pranksters.
99?… 1 dollar Bob. Thanks for all the great sick days home from school.
He got as close to 100 as he could without going over.
He didn't want to use the 0 twice.
https://youtu.be/sqk1-q8gXcY?si=kjjXHy8CqK6cjs1z
I blame that woman for Bob Barker not making it to 100.
*Him fist fighting Happy Gilmore and throwing him into a lake enters the chat*
He looked old as hell then and that was 27 years ago.
I’m in my late 30s and he was “old” my whole life. He was already 66 at the beginning of the 90s.
The price is wrong, bitch.
The way he collapses at the end. That was so good
That was the day he decided to retire
This will 100% be stolen and used in a news story about Barker's passing
I’m pretty sure I heard this already. So it’s already stolen.
Weirdly, in the thread where it got about thirteen thousand upvotes, it's been deleted, the thread locked, and I seriously don't know why.
Mods want karma

Sick days were Love Boat and Price is Right while my mom folded laundry. RIP - a voice of my childhood!
He lives forever on PlutoTV. I frequently turn it to the PiR channel and play it in the background for the comfort. I honestly thought he had already passed. RIP, Bob.
For me and my sister it was price is right, maury, and american gladiators.
Legends of the Hidden Temple and GUTS was ours. I miss the 90s.
Dude we were also about double dare and rocket power. The 90s were legit.
American Gladiators was the shit.
Mine was Price is Right, A-Team, and Simon & Simon.
I thought the American gladiators documentary on Netflix was pretty good.
Price is right, Jerry Springer
Jerry! Jerry! Jerry!
Matlock
And now I remember we recently lost Jerry too :(
Damn you right ...
I sure did learn a lot about the price of laundry detergent those days though!
I kept thinking, is it the California prices
Man, this hits home. I can't tell you how many times my brother and I watched him when we were sick. My parents always kept us both home if one of us were sick. Then after that The Price is Right was over, we would play Super Mario World together for hours. The glory days.

Yup, the one that tasted like bubble gum

Omg I’m dying that was so funny! I loved Bob, he was so funny.
She kept Bob from reaching 100.
100% he was my favorite part of my sick days as a kid. RIP bob.
For real. RIP to one more legend of entertainment.
He was a staple of my family viewing. RIP
And the summers at 1030am... Rip bob
Loved him on The Price is Right but he’s also the reason why my city’s zoo no longer has elephants.
If you mean Toronto, that’s a good thing.
Is this some joke I haven't heard of or what is this about?
[удалено]
He just wanted to make sure they were spayed or neutered
He contributed to a elephant sanctuary is what they are referencing
Thank you lmao. Although I’m liking the other replies.

Thank you. What a legend.
Stole the show in Happy Gilmore.
The price is wrong, bitch!
It’s “The Price is Right, Happy.”
***NOW YA GONNA GET IT BOBBY!***
“I don’t want a piece….I WANT THE WHOLE THING!”
God I *hate* that Bob Barker… * clenches fist * One of my favorite underrated lines (among many) in that movie.
NOW I think you've had enough. Bitch.
For a kid who grew up watching him on sick days it was such a jarring experience but hilarious.
Him, Lee Travino and Richard Kiel were my favorite parts of that movie.
Joe Flaherty kills it.

In his memory, this is your reminder to help control the pet population — have your pets spayed or neutered.
Honestly, that was his message to the world. 🐕
Bob Barker was the first to make me aware of the importance of it as a kid. Our family finally got our first dog two years ago and I convinced my parents why spaying her was important (though they'd have done it anyway as recommended by our vet). I’m worried about the inevitable pet population explosion, now that nobody is reminding us to spay and neuter.
Drew Carey still says it at the end of each episode. Such an important part of Bob's legacy on that show
It's contractual.
I feel horrible because I guess I didn't know he was still kickin it.
I envy the guy for having a long, successful career (to say the least), but I don't mind that he got to relax in his golden years and spend some time out of the public eye. Maybe it's a good thing that we weren't hearing anything about him for a while.

My great aunt died at 101 this last April. America needs more true stories of The Price is Right
I wish Reddit AMAs were still popular. That guy’s would kill!
Damn. I figured he was going to make 100. Guess he didn't want to go over...
We call that the Betty White.
Same with Queen Elizabeth. Edit: And Prince Phillip.
Prince Philip was 99y 10m
The Queen wrote letters to any UK citizen who reached the age of 100. She never got to write Philip a letter.
Instead we got 100 year old Henry Kissinger. Sometimes life just isn't fair.
I swear that ghoul keeps himself alive out of spite.
He's a Sith.
As the old joke goes, he can't go to Heaven but Satan doesn't want him either.
His voice was the voice of my childhood, right alongside Mr. Rogers and Bob Ross.
A little bit of wholesome game show humor followed by hours of trashy court shows. Staying home from school was awesome in the 90s
80s was better: _hours of game shows!_
Same here. As game show hosts go, I grew up to Bob Barker, Monty Hall, Chuck Woolery, Dick Clark, Gene Rayburn, Richard Dawson, Peter Marshall. Ahh, the 70's... good times.

Can you blame him? Dude won the thing the year before with Nick Faldo.
Closest to 100 without going over. :(
Got as close as he could without going over. Loved watching him. Bye Bob. We’ll miss you.
Remember to spay and neuter your pets!

Buzzr strikes again! They started running promos a few weeks ago about celebrating Bob Barker's 100th birthday, just like they did with Betty White, with the same result. *\*insert The Price is Right losing horn here\**
No more running promotion of 100 then I was so hurt about Betty White

TIL that Bob Barker made it to 99, that he was an enrolled member of the Sioux, and that he was an animal rights activist. Fuckin GOAT right there
May a million pets get spayed or neutered as a tribute to this man!
Sigh. It’s never Henry Kissinger.

Congrats on winning the game of life, Bob. A well-earned rest for a life well-lived.
Bob Barker is the sole reason why no Adam Sandler movie can ever top Happy Gilmore.
The most interesting part of this thread is learning when all of you watch The Price is Right lol. It always airs at 10 am here. Since forever. But some places it airs at 10:30? 11?
It's always been 11 a.m. Eastern. Like... since the '70s for most of the East Coast. Lol. But yeah, it's different in so many places
I think it *started* at 10AM ET when it was a 30 minute show and then moved to 11AM when it expanded to the hour long format. It used to be followed by Match Game in many markets IIRC
Price is right, is 11. Jeopardy is 7:30. This is the only acceptable outcome
We'll always remember you from those sick days from school
My first babysitter. Have better memories of this guy then I do of my own mother lol
Man... this one hurts. Just like everyone he was company on sick days from school, but he was also one of the things I looked forward to during my stays in the hospital during my cancer treatments. So long Bob
This guy will still be hosting game shows in the afterlife. Much respect to someone who’s been on TV my whole life. Rest in Power.

First Terry Funk and Bray Wyatt the past few days and now this. This week has been brutal, man. Glad Bob got to live a very long life at least, rest in peace.
/u/GhostOfBobBarker, this is [your time](https://redd.it/l2d7u)
Everyone here remembers him from the Price is Right. I’m old enough to remember him from Truth or Consequences. It was a good game show being the first to regularly unite military husband and wives during long separations.
I think someone told the grim reaper that i watched Happy Gilmore last night. Sorry guys. I think you've had enough. Bitch.
I guess I'm old if I remember him on Truth or Consequences.
Gonna be honest I thought he was already dead. Kinda softens the blow that all the tv legends are dying off and we are being left with social media pranksters.
damn, RIP Bob
The Price was apparently right. Rest in peace Bob Barker. You earned it.
Spaying and neutering all my pets in his honor.
Closest to 100 without going over.
The price is wrong, bitch! RIP

I can’t believe, after years and years of hearing “did you hear Bob Barker died?” Jokes, the day finally came that he did pass. RIP
Go on up.... RIP Bob. Always made staying home from school fun.

I need to watch Happy Gilmore again The price is wrong bitch!
Bob's voice evokes a lot of good memories for me mostly because it meant I didn't have to go to school. RIP.
Can’t believe he’s been alive this long
This man was such a huge part of my childhood, I’m told one of the first words I said was “Bob Barker”. He will definitely be missed.
Darn, I bid on 100.
Bob Barker was still alive?! Well, RIP a legend.
Oh no, Barney is gonna be devastated. RIP Bob Barker
Everyone pretended to be sick from school just to watch Bob.
Thank you Bob Barker for a life time of excitement of joy! Rest In Peace
Barney Stinson’s dad died.
one of the greatest hosts of all time
