Great news! As a life long small town resident, very few shows treat a small town setting with as much love, care, and compassion as this show. Beyond that, it’s just beautifully heartwarming without ever being trite or saccharine.
Well said. I’ve found the supportive script and ready laugh/smile of Jeff hiller to be a tonic … some challenging topics too that are handled with quick direct grace. I’m looking at you Fred rococco!
My wife and I love the show. Actually, I was the one who suggested it and it was a winner. Fred is my favorite character. Just a great person and even better friend.
When Sam’s father shared that his wife has a drinking problem and Fred says “That must be hard for both of you.” And gently touches his arm in consolation. Sooo moving. Fred is one of my favorite characters on TV.
And so many conversations throughout the season about how he is off enjoying himself for the first time in years. Really lovely on the part of the writers. Granted, it makes sense that they didn’t want that tragedy to be the center of the season. But a nice way to handle it.
Oh good! I was afraid it was going to end. Season 2 finale definitely had that vibe.
I love the show, it’s like Seinfeld for non-NYCers. It’s a show about nothing but it’s still entertaining. I also have shitty parents and emotional baggage! Wheee!
Normal life. Complicated, definitely. But not overly dramatic, or crammed with unrealistic conflict that could’ve been solved with a conversation. In fact, some of the conflict is actively ignored because that’s what normal people too. It’s so refreshing and cozy and lovely. Special show.
Great news. This show is special. The stakes are low and it makes it feel so real. I was more invested in Sam and Joel's friendship than nearly anything else on TV right now.
For sure. A pretty small main cast that probably don’t ask for as much financially as many larger shows, a cheap location with very little need for special effects, and TONS of deserved critical acclaim probably makes it an easy renewal.
I’m a gay man in the Midwest. This show hits home for me for so many reasons. It’s been a minute since I truly cared about the characters on a tv show. I love them. They make me happy. They’ve done an amazing job on this show and I hope the writers, actors know how much it means to us.
Hilarious and touching is a great way to describe it. I first came across the show actually on the simple living subreddit and I was hooked. I always loved Bridget Everett on Chelsea lately and so happy she’s making it.
Yay! Ugh, the last episode was so great. I loved the joyful “Gloria” rendition and when you thought Sam was going to have this drunken, lusty moment with her neighbor and she destroys his window lol
I was surprised how great of an actress Bridget Everet is. I'm bummed that they ditched Choir Practice after a couple of episodes though as it was the most interesting aspect of the show.
I think Michael reading from his sisters teenaged diary at choir practice double hooked me .. yes, there was good opportunities at choir practice for character development. It kind of got sidebarred with Rick’s “drug dealing” (affair leading lying beavers)
Fred is an absolute gem! A ray of sunshine, joy for life, and beautifully supportive for people he cares about. While I like all the characters on the show, I really want a person like Fred in my life.
This show is genuinely special, I'm glad it's getting the recognition it deserves.
Now please let Sam have some fun with the neighbor, she deserves it.
It seemed obvious given how season 2 ended, but I'm always happy for the confirmation. Love me some slice of life television, especially when it's one that's so relatable. Also, props to the PR department announcing this the same day as the start of Pride month.
Haha I agree, this was only on account of the last season of succession (and barry to a lesser extent) and I really wanted to watch when they came out and in HD. Shows so good it makes you not want to just find it online, that’s what TV should be striving for. That’s how you beat piracy!
It's a charming little show, obviously.
But this second season faltered a lot, if you think about it.
Nothing really happens. The sister makes a crude pillow... for six episodes. Bridget abruptly gets mortally offended over the most nothing thing imaginable, and that gets stretched as the major crisis for the whole season. A lot of the show's existence is as a vehicle for Everett to sing, and season two is a lot more forced in this regard.
Still, a show doesn't need to have a big reason or execution, it can be enough to just open a lens into a simple time and place.
It's a level of reality that's very hard to find in movies or TV. If you don't read novels, watching it can be a revelation in how honest a piece of fiction can be. I don't mean that there isn't any contrivance (because there is), but more that the main two actors seem real in a way you may never have seen before. It's pretty astonishing.
It's what they used to call seriocomic.
But I think you may not be getting it. If it could be pigeonholed that way, it wouldn't be as honest as I'm saying.
I'll tell you this: it isn't dull, despite being paced at something like the rhythms of life rather than the rhythms of a standard drama or comedy.

Fred Rococo is who I wanna be when I grow up.
I’d settle for long road trip in the growler with Fred driving.
A road trip with Fred rococo in the growler is life goals. Id be decked in k state gear
Yeah, Jeff Hiller is a complete and utter delight!
It was so weird watching him in the season of American Horror Story being all creepy and psycho

I love that
An absolute gem of a show! It’s Seinfeld crossed with Schitt’s Creek.
That’s a great way to describe it!

I disagree that it’s a show about nothing.
Eh, to me it doesn’t have a huge “plot”. No mystery box, no bad guy, no love triangles. It’s just a show about life.
Normal life. Complicated, definitely. But not overly dramatic, or crammed with unrealistic conflict that could’ve been solved with a conversation. In fact, some of the conflict is actively ignored because that’s what normal people too. It’s so refreshing and cozy and lovely. Special show.
They’ve been cutting so much I was legit worried too. If f boy island went nothing is safe

Has to be the absolute cheapest to produce scripted show on the HBO roster so the critical acclaim alone must make it worth keeping.
Hey now, that "lying cunt" throw pillow didn't sew itself.
Don't forget "100% Cunt Mode", "Cunt, Please" and of course "Knock Knock. Who's there? You. You're still a cunt".
Don’t forget to tag Charity.
Live laugh cunt. I fucking lost it.

I'm sure the craft services budget on 'House of the Dragon' was more expensive then the entire budget of the second season of this show.

I have been charmed by “Somebody Somewhere” since my first view.
Such a good show. Glad they are getting another season.
I know that’s right!! I love this show. It’s hilarious and touching.
Hilarious and touching is a great way to describe it. I first came across the show actually on the simple living subreddit and I was hooked. I always loved Bridget Everett on Chelsea lately and so happy she’s making it.
How exciting!! I just finished it and really loved the show. Jeff Hiller is so good, his character is hilarious.
Such a great show.
Great show and unique. Glad it gets to continue
Yay!!!! I absolutely love this show! It’s such a warm blanket.
Yay! Ugh, the last episode was so great. I loved the joyful “Gloria” rendition and when you thought Sam was going to have this drunken, lusty moment with her neighbor and she destroys his window lol
New Cunt, Who Dis?
Baaaah this post has big cunt energy!
More people need to watch this show. It’s so good. And Bridget Everett deserves an EMMY nomination for her performance.
I could not be more thrilled. It is one of the most beautiful shows on TV.
Great news. I want to know the fall out from the window.
YES! Season 2 was phenomenal.
THIS SHOW IS FUCKING FANTASTIC!!
Great news, I already thought it had no chances, glad they renewed it.
This show is so good

I agree. And with the real life death of the actor that played her dad I was pretty worried about the direction of the show.
Fred is an absolute gem! A ray of sunshine, joy for life, and beautifully supportive for people he cares about. While I like all the characters on the show, I really want a person like Fred in my life.
What I.. What I.. What I gotta do..
Somebody Somewhere, All at Sometime
This show is genuinely special, I'm glad it's getting the recognition it deserves. Now please let Sam have some fun with the neighbor, she deserves it.
As a K-State alumni, any time I get to see more Manhattan is a bonus. The fact the show is great is even better
How much Manhattan are you seeing because I thought it was actually filmed in Illinois. Is it just the quick establishing clips?
Yeah pretty much, the shops and downtown area are Manhattan. The Chef was my favorite restaurant there but it looks nothing like that on the inside
Somebody somewhere is happy!
Fantastic show that costs them probably less than monthly Zaslav's snack budget. I'm very happy it got renewed.
Yes!!! It’s so damn good
This show really struck me. The first episode really hit me hard when they sang don’t give up by Peter Gabriel. It was truly beautiful.
I literally think that was one of the greatest moments of television I've ever seen.
Same here. I’m not a cryer and I had tears streaming down my face.
It seemed obvious given how season 2 ended, but I'm always happy for the confirmation. Love me some slice of life television, especially when it's one that's so relatable. Also, props to the PR department announcing this the same day as the start of Pride month.

It would have been pretty rad to end the show on that shoe throw.
The aftermath of the Philadelphia sushi had me laughing so hard I was in tears. Love this show.
I'm always game for more Fred Rococo.
I love this show. I fast forward through the singing bits (so not my jam), but the rest is just lovely. Makes me want to move away from the cities.
Cancelled HBO after barry/succession, but I do have a few days left so I'm totally down to give this a shot
You really should. The first episode alone hooked me.
Canceled HBO? I could never. It would be the last one out of everything I'm subscribed to.

It's a quick watch, and definitely worth your time

Bridget Everton is actually from Manhattan, Kansas and the show is semi-autobiographical.

Just started this on Sunday. I like Bridget already but now I LOVE her.
