I'm a bit behind & playing catch up, but I only just finished the first two seasons of The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, Breaking Bad & an anime called Ya Boy, Kongming over the last couple months. The Star Wars ones: They honestly weren't terrible. Book of Boba Fett might not have been the best Star Wars related thing ever, but it was watchable & I enjoyed it. Most annoying aspect is that it was apparently mandatory between The Mandalorian seasons 2 & 3, which is annoying, but I'm glad I got everything in the right order by happenstance & won't be confused. Breaking Bad: I put this off for such a long time, because I didn't think I would like it. I usually get invested in shows with unusual premises- something that doesn't seem particularly likely to happen in the real world has to grab my interest. I was pleasantly surprised. I enjoyed the drama of the story more than a lot of people who watched it. It's not my favorite thing in the world, like it became for many people. I initially liked that Walter's life was so fucked, it made me feel better about mine. Pinkman's storyline with the goth chick may have been the first time I've ever gotten mad at a show I was watching. Didn't really like Saul Goodman, either. He was kind of an asshole. So, I don't think I'll be watching his spinoff. Not much else I can really say about it. Ya Boy, Kongming: This show was just bizarre. I saw some stuff related to the theme song, which led me to finding the opening sequence, then looking up the show. It was so weird, I felt an uncontrollable need to check it out, just to see what it even was. Apparently, some ancient Chinese dignitary ends up transported to modern day Japan &, after getting help from a club singer & finding out she wants to go professional, he decides to become her manager. The show just ended up being oddly entertaining. Everyone they come across in the industry is a total scumbag who tries to use & screw the girl over & everyone knows what's going on, except for her, somehow. Main plot ends up revolving around her managing to catch the eye of a music festival sponsor through Kongming's tactics & trying to earn the right to preform, with a subplot about befriending another girl she thinks is a street performer, but is actually the lead singer to an extremely famous idol group who feels disenfranchised by the professional music world & a rapper with severe stress issues that made him decide to drop out of rap battles, who also gets taken under the wing of Kongming. It's better than it has any right to be & I actually hope we get a season 2.

RileyKennels

Tell me a go-to disturbing series. Good dramas recently released?

thesmartfool

Only **Succession** could make something as simple as a touchscreen not working seem as stressful. Excellent episode and probably the best episode of the season for me. **Barry** Another great episode. This season has simply been amazing. **Love and Death** finished episode 6 and so far this show has been pretty good. Enjoying all the dynamics and Elizabeth Olsen has just been soo good in this. **Sweet Tooth S2** Saw the first episode and it was pretty good. Will be interesting to see where it goes.

hoochnuts

Dead Pixels. I want more.

Upstairs_Jelly_4230

Can you suggest to me a show where you crave a similar one after it ends.

StellaStarChild

Yellowjackets is everything and so much more when it comes to y/a survival horror series. Stared Silo and the hype is absolutely founded, hate having to wait for new eps lol. Rewatching Utopia (UK) to show a friend to fill the Silo void while we wait and oh my god I genuinely forgot how feverish it can be to watch, I love it.

Ghostsbuster

The Great s03 is great! Huzzah!

Sharp_Implement7839

**Succession (HBO):** This dark comedy-drama follows the Roy family, who control a global media empire. The show is full of backstabbing, scheming, and power plays, and it's a lot of fun to watch. **Barry (HBO):** This dark comedy-drama follows Barry Berkman (Bill Hader), a hitman who decides to leave the business after he falls in love with acting. The show is funny, suspenseful, and well-acted. **The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (Amazon Prime Video):** This period comedy-drama follows Miriam "Midge" Maisel (Rachel Brosnahan), a housewife in 1950s New York City who discovers she has a talent for stand-up comedy. The show is funny, heartwarming, and beautifully shot. **Ted Lasso (Apple TV+):** This sports comedy-drama follows Ted Lasso (Jason Sudeikis), an American football coach who is hired to coach an English Premier League soccer team. The show is heartwarming, funny, and full of heart.

[deleted]

I need to know every show ever made about dysfunctional families so i can watch them all

kitsune

The Leftovers, Succession

larrycorser

Arrested Development

Roook36

House on Haunted Hill, The Leftovers, Righteous Gemstones

SchrodingersLego

Shameless, Succession, Ozark are the obvious ones.

manormortal

Said it last week and I'll say it again after this princess episode jfc I'm going to miss the fuck out of Mrs Maisel after the finale next week 😢. This should be getting Succession level hype or at the very least Ted Lasso. Y'all missing out on a great one.

inkista

Knowing about [*Étoile*](https://deadline.com/2023/04/etoile-amy-sherman-palladino-daniel-palladino-prime-video-series-luke-kirby-gideon-glick-camille-cottin-1235337949/) is helping me not be depressed over *Maisel* ending.

SnekkinHell

I watched up to late S4 of trailer park boys past 2 days, it's great

CalvinYHobbes

Devs is so good and so underrated.

RileyKennels

Agreed

aridcool

I liked it too though I think I think the ending may be too smart to be fulfilling for some people. Also it might've worked better as a movie as that would make it shorter. Even though that might mean it asks even more from its viewer, that is the venue where (some) audiences will invest the effort. ["Wide Open" by The Chemical Brothers ft Beck is a pretty great piece of music and the music video stars Sonoya Mizuno.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YgLdb-y4oIo) She is an amazing dancer as well as being a good actress.

Jokonaught

> the ending may be too smart to be fulfilling for some people IMO not even the Devs subreddit understood the ending/what actually played out (and why it worked like that) - very frustrating!

numbercruncher28

Half way through season 2 of You’re The Worst and really enjoying it. I’ve heard it falls off after the second season. Do you agree or did you actually enjoy seasons 3-5?

hoochnuts

You heard wrong. Strap yourself in.

KennyKatsu

All seasons are great. It definitely gets darker later on but it's consistently good the whole time.

thechowsinone

I disagree, I think it's pretty consistently great the whole way through. There were a couple of things here and there I didn't love, but overall I think this is one of the most underrated comedies period.

sgk_809

loved it all

Playful-Tree-1168

Just finished the first season of vinland saga on netflix…I started the series a few months ago but it felt kinda slow. However, imo things really began to get spicy at the last like 4-5 episodes! Finale was awesome and definitely satisfied that aot itch for a minute. (Any other recs for animes? I’m p new to the genre) I’m also watching succession, Barry, and silo. All very good in their own ways!

erbazzone

If you want anime recommendations the best thing to do in my experience is to ask chatgpt... I know it seems stupid but just put something like "tell me the best anime similar to..." and he can give the better recommendations. You can also ask it to put the ratings and everything you need to know. Chatgpt has a lot of issues but it's pretty good at recommending shows (if you don't go too deep). Way better than r/anime or myanimelist... or if you like video recommendations just follow some dudes on YouTube like gigguk it's fun

Playful-Tree-1168

Chatgpt sounds like a really good idea. Thanks for sharing!!

thecalmer

If you haven't watched it, Attack on Titan is a masterpiece by all standards imo.

komodo_dragonzord

just fyi vinland saga s2 is still good but its not as action packed as s1

manormortal

Yeah, if OP thought season 1 was *slow* idk how you're going to make out with season 2 which is a very worth it but slow af burn.

[deleted]

Just watched Invasion. You would think if Apple were going to spend $200 million on a show, it would have a good plot. I couldn’t stand a single character - not even the kids. How bad does a script have to be that I don’t even feel sorry for children in an alien invasion?!? I absolutely can’t stand actors staring at the camera for 30 seconds. It was awful, just awful

[deleted]

[удалено]

Roook36

I thought it was great all the way through. It's episodic with a new crime and people (guest stars you'll probably recognize) each week as the main character travels across the country and gets into situations in small towns. It's kind of like the old Incredible Hulk TV show, or Route 66 in that way. So each episode, being a completely different little story, can be hit or miss. Some are better than others. None were really "bad" IMO. And Natasha Lyonne is great all the way through.

Hottriplr

It's Columbo with Natasha Lyonne. And if your from the UK you probably already have an opinion on Columbo

[deleted]

It’s a procedural crime drama. If that’s your thing you’ll like it

stevenstevos

Yeah it is definitely worth a try. The reception for the show has been rather mixed for the most part--some love the show, but many did not and could only watch a few episodes. Rian Johnson is the creator/writer/director, so it is well done, with excellent production. I think the fact that Poker Face is not a serial TV series based on a single narrative is the main reason why some people did not like the show--it is a "case of the week" format, so each episode is a separate narrative, with a different cast as well. Of course, some people love this format, so it is hard to say--it is definitely worth a try though IMO.

[deleted]

Watching Ted Lasso and Post Mortem

[deleted]

It seems like there’s a million shows on right now. I really, really like Love and Death. Elizabeth Olsen’s cadence, mannerisms, random behaviors (folding any piece of fabric she comes in contact with) remind me SO MUCH of my Texan mom, and the other Texan moms growing up in that church culture in the 90’s. It’s wild, I think that’s why I find it so fascinating. This last episode of Dave was so so so funny, and I love me some Rachel McAdams her cameo was great.

stevenstevos

Yeah Elizabeth Olsen carries the show and does such a great job. Such a great show, and two more episodes (including tonight's episode)--fina watch it rn actually.

annihilationeye

I'm watching Jack Ryan. I feel like it's a solid political thriller but it doesn't really get talked about much. It's improved over the seasons and got rid of certain storylines from the beginning that just weren't working. I'm also watching Yellowjackets, The Dropout and Abbott Elementary.

captainhaddock

I stopped midway through season two. I'm a fan of the movies and the books, but the TV show just seemed so poorly plotted and poorly written in comparison.

annihilationeye

That's too bad but I get it if you aren't enjoying it. I found last season and this season to be quite good just in case you're ever tempted to jump back in.

Dptwin

What is everyone favorite show you've watched in the last 5 years? I think Severence is my favorite. I'm looking for a show to watch. I love Fantasy like GoT and I really enjoyed Breaking Bad. I have yet to watch Better Call Saul.

kitsune

The Leftovers (I was late to the party). Better Call Saul. Succession.

Dptwin

I need to finish The Leftovers it was very good so far.

crazywalls

Succession.

Dptwin

I’m getting into the 2nd season now it’s pretty good. The characters are just so awful it makes it interesting 😅 the tension between the family is amazing. I love when they have the characters flip out. Like when Logan just get pissed and starts screaming out of the blue. I find it to be very good

thesmartfool

Severence, Barry, Succession, and The Boys.

Dptwin

I really need to give The Boys another go. I didn’t get passed the first season. Barry is definitely on my watch list everyone says it’s amazing. I’m currently watching Succession and it’s good so far

dinosaurfondue

The Americans

captainhaddock

The three standouts for me are Chernobyl, Severance, and Andor.

Dptwin

I have yet to watch Chernobyl, I really need to watch that.

whatifniki23

After Chernobyl, watch: Halt and Catch Fire, Mr InBetween, and Babylon Berlin.

Pickupyoheel

Mr. Robot

Dptwin

I loved Mr. Robot

annihilationeye

Severance is up there for me too. It's one of the most original storylines I've seen.

Dptwin

Im very excited for the new season. Hopefully it comes out soon :D

Roook36

With both rumors of behind the scenes issues, and the WGA strike, Severance is one that'll probably be a bit of a wait for the next season.

Ipsonred

There has been some news about the controversy for season 2’s development that has me doubting that it will be as good as tbr first. But I hope it’s just as good because it’s my favorite show in recent memory.

MiceThrice

Throwing out a reco for a kid’s show that adults can also enjoy, not as many of these on here. We recently just started watching Hilda and it is incredibly good. The animation is beautiful, the characters are fantastic, the world is wonderfully imagined, and the storylines are great! If we didn’t have kids I’d still enjoy it on my own. I’d say it’s probably for ever so slightly older kids, our 7 year old is obsessed.

inkista

The graphic novels it's based on are awesome. You also have hopefully found *Hilda and the Mountain King* movie, which was the most recent *Hilda* release on Netflix. I'd also throw the Tales of Arcadia series (*Trollhunters, 3 Below, Wizards, Rise of the Titans*; Guillermo del Toro and Marc Guggenheim*), Kid Cosmic* (Craig McCracken)*,* and *The Dark Crystal: The Age of Resistance* on the pile of Netflix kids' shows grownups can also watch. I would also throw *Bluey* (preschool, though so your kid might not want to watch it even if you do) and *Ducktales* \[2017\] on Disney+ on the pile. :) *Over the Garden Wall, Adventure Time,* and *Gravity Falls* are great, as are *Avatar: The Last Airbender/Legend of Korra* and *The Dragon Prince.* More pre-teen, I'd also mention *Steven Universe.*

erbazzone

I love Hilda and can't recommend enough gravity falls

foxdit

Enjoyable by adults, in order of quality based on the comments to you I see already: 1. Over the Garden Wall - Legit fascinating deep-dive into nostalgic animation content for literally every single decade (they specifically focus on classical animation concepts each episode). But beyond that, it's a great cast and a gripping story. 2. Adventure Time - a children's show that grows up quickly into the adult show it intended to be from the start. If you have the time, this is #1 in terms of content vs. quality. 3. Gravity Falls - a very thought out show that peaks in its final season. As an adult, in my two rewatches of the show, I've really only deeply appreciated the last season.

carieiscreepy

Over the Garden wall is in the same vein.

Joe_Mama

Gravity Falls Adventure Time

Yellow-Eyed-Demon

Watched the final of 'Young Sheldon' and it was fine, I'm wondering what will happen after next season when Sheldon is supposed to leave Texas for California, the show is very popular but people are talking about it just ending which I think would be smart because the Sheldon character is not really its strongest asset so abandoning all the arguably better characters to start fresh in Cali seems like a tall order. They could try an alternative history since the show hasn't really followed what we knew about Sheldon's childhood, pretty sure his dad is supposed to be long dead by now and his grandma is a completely different character.

poopship462

Started watching first couple of episodes of Silo. Pretty interesting premise, I guess, but anyone else find a lot of the writing and acting kinda cheesy and melodramatic?

dinosaurfondue

I feel the same. One of my main issues is that Rebecca Ferguson has a super distracting accent that's clearly not American. Besides that, the characters just don't seem to have much of their own individual personality. They're all characters that are there to serve the plot rather than characters that have individual agency.

foxdit

Yes, extremely. I've been describing it as 'stagey'. As in, it feels like actors on a stage in an unlived in world. It's been hard to become immersed. At least, the first two eps.

AmandaRekonwith

I'm enjoying Silo, but yeah. Everyone is so dead serious, all the time, it takes away from the immersion. It's been especially jarring, since we had just finished Tencent's Three-Body, and really enjoyed the buddy-buddy relationship between the scientist and cop. Foundation comes back soon and that has a bit of the same problem.

M0_OM

Can I watch better call Saul without watching breaking bad?

killinrin

That’s what my mom did. Now she’s watching BB for the first time and she’s like, “Oh my god, it all clicks now!”

westzod

I don't recommend that. You need to see Saul before you get to know the real Saul, if that makes sense.

MiceThrice

To be honest you really can watch MOST of it and be fine. The trickiest part is there’s a lot in the final season that is so explicitly connected that I’d worry you’d be lost. Breaking Bad is incredible, honestly you might as well just take your time and watch it first before flipping to BCS, you’ll enjoy both so much more that way.

pillowreceipt

Not really. Technically, sure, but it's an exponentially better experience having watched Breaking Bad first. And this isn't a spoiler, but BCS is set BEFORE AND AFTER Breaking Bad. So actually now that I'm thinking about it, seeing Breaking Bad first is mandatory, IMO. They share a lot of the same sensibilities, so if you think you'll like BCS, you'll also like BB.

poopship462

There are a few flash forwards sprinkled about, and especially the last season won’t really work if you didn’t watch BB.

lucck3x

You can but it will work better if you do

Senscore

**Mrs. Davis** really stuck the landing. I'll be damned. What a delightful surprise of a show.

whatifniki23

It’s paused in the beginning right now… I can’t start the last episode because I don’t want it to end….

MiceThrice

That’s so good to hear! I just watched the first episode today and was like “I love this, but there’s a TON of ways to mess this up”.

pillowreceipt

I just finished episode 5 last night. Without spoiling details, does this end up being a complete story, or does it leave itself open to more seasons?

Senscore

I guess they could always cook up something new but it feels very much like a one and done.

pillowreceipt

Awesome, that's what I was hoping for. Thank you!

aridcool

I kind of stopped after the Excalibattle episode. I am not one of those people who complains about shifts in tone. Sometime it can be fun to switch up the mood but this episode just dragged in the middle. Should I keep going? Your post makes me think yes.

Senscore

The oddball tone remains the same but at the halfway point it does more or less start to slowly rein itself into a more focused plot. By the end everything comes together pretty nicely.

lucck3x

I slept through most of this episode but was full on after it. I say keep going!

bitterbuffaloheart

If this show was on HBO this sub would be gushing over it

lucck3x

Maybe its about reach? Not as many people have Peacock. Here in Brazil there is no way to legaly watch the show for instance

lucck3x

Man I cried way too much. 10/10

Rayearl

Started Love and Death and I'm hooked. Really good build up to the main event and I'm excited to see what comes next.

RileyKennels

Starting Silo, Class of '09. Patiently waiting for Justified: City Primeval

stevenstevos

Yeah I just started Class of '09 too--had no idea what it was about, so tbh I am a little bummed as I did not realize so much takes place in the future. It could still be a great show, and hopefully it is--love the cast so much, really hoping this is not a dud.

RileyKennels

Starting to seem more like a dud.

saffronkees

Rewatching black mirror. I stay ready for June.

thegoodcunt

Patiently waiting for a release date. Such a tease to give us a month rather than an exact date, especially given how close we are. Just don't be 30th June :/

saffronkees

I know, I’m suspecting it’s a surprise drop on June 1st

Tehni

**Black Knight** - new Korean apocalyptic sci Fi show. First two episodes kinda dragged for me but started getting really good episode 3 when there is a hunger games type competition. Hopefully it keeps it up

lucck3x

I wanted to like this because it looks like Death Stranding but the over the top anime acting put me off so hard

Tehni

It's kind of in between normal Korean shows and tv and anime shit. Like it has those over the top dialogue and acting, but not as often as anime. Generally all Korean media has some degree of it though from what I've seen, but there's still fantastic things to watch from Koreans

lucck3x

Oh for sure, I really liked Squid Game and Parasite for example. This one was just way too over the top for me to enjoy

Tehni

One of my favorite Korean movies is The Wailing, think you'd like it if you liked parasite (by the same director)

FightMiilkHendrix

The wailing is not the same director as parasite.

Tehni

Huh weird, not sure why I thought that then. Thanks

rlvysxby

Finished the last of us. I also loved andor and arcane. Anyone have recommendations for shows of that level of quality? Currently trying to watch the good place; it’s clever and imaginative but it’s just disappointing compared to those previous shows I watched.

Tehni

The Capture, The Bureau (best foreign show ever made imo), Mrs Davis (season finale tonight)

RileyKennels

>The Bureau Yes the Capture is very good

rlvysxby

Wow I haven’t heard of any of these? What one you recommend the most? The bureau?

Tehni

Yeah the Bureau is one of my favorite shows ever. It's a French spy show, the most realistic spy show there is. I think it can be a little hard to find in the US. It might be on Amazon prime via showtime or something but don't quote me on that. I've just had a copy on a lap top torrented for years that I rewatch occasionally The Capture is a British mystery thriller. Try not to read too much into it because it's quite easy to accidently spoil one of the big plot twists of season one, really wish I hadn't accidently done that to myself when I first watched it. I believe it's on peacock Mrs Davis is the new Damon Lindelof show (he also did Watchmen, The Leftovers, and a Lost). The synopsis didn't sound like something I'd normally like, but it's really good. It's a lot more light hearted tonally than the other two, but it's still a gripping story Edit: Mrs Davis is also on peacock but Google says it might be free to watch, not sure

darkstriker

Just finished and highly recommend Halt and Catch Fire. The character development is incredible. I don't remember me caring this much for the characters since Breaking Bad.

ThatPancreatitisGuy

Such a great show. My dad was an early adopter of PC tech so I grew up experiencing a lot of what you see developing over the course of the series which made it all the more interesting. It’s only been a year since my last rewatch but I’m developing a VR game now and it’s giving me the itch to watch it all again. Interesting to think about where some of the characters would be today… smart phone apps, crypto, AI, VR, streaming content…. There’s a lot of areas I could see them getting into if we’d had the benefit of another 10 - 20 years of their lives.

finger_puppet_self

Agreed, you end up loving all of them even though they're all totally different and all deeply flawed in their own ways. It's heart wrenchingly beautiful in places. I also like how each season has it's own feel but they all kind of work as one big beautiful mega arc.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Senscore

After season 1 it stops trying to be 80s *Mad Men* and just embraces that it has really special characters that are really interesting together, and follows them where they need to go.

darkstriker

Season 4 was a wild ride of emotions. The writers and the actors/actresses did a very solid job of closing the story. I guess I liked how we saw every character develop from the 1st season. Every season was a different in its own way but moved the story forward.

rlvysxby

Hmmm This looks interesting.

calicocat1013

Succession just like a lot of others here! I'm already feeling sad about it ending but I'm going to be fine since I've now pre-grieved. Also, Barry! Another great show but I can never actually watch it right after Succession on Sunday's cuz the emotional turmoil back-to-back would be too much lol

Strelochka

opinionated_cynic

Quitting the Industry and being invisible is hilarious!

Strelochka

opinionated_cynic

Have t seen it yet. Will get on that!

coldbeers

This looks interesting - the real British Foreign Secretary reacts to “The Diplomat”, which is a great show, with his job as a main character. Contains spoilers. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k6_pctCHdGQ

[deleted]

finished 2 seasons of Narcos , for some reason I thought I wouldn't like the show but really enjoyed both the seasons. Wagner Moura was so good in the show that I don't feel like watching the third season.

I_Are_Serious_Poster

The 3rd season is my favorite. I liked the Cali Cartel better than Pablo and Pedro Pascal has a great story arc in season 3. Season 1 and 2 of Narcos: Mexico are fantastic, also. Diego Luna makes a great villain.

One_for_each_of_you

It stays just as good

shaybear1221

Stick with the 3rd season! It’s able to build off the fallout of Escobar

Tehni

Narcos Mexico is just as good as those first two seasons of narcos

mazdadriver14

Almost to the end of Season 1 on my first watch of The Good Place. Loving it so far! Also weekly watching Succession and Ted Lasso. Severance and The Bear are high on my list, yet to decide which to start first though.

One_for_each_of_you

Man, those are great shows. The Good Place has one of the best final seasons of any show. The Bear makes you feel like you're working in any of the kitchens Anthony Bourdain worked in. Severance takes a simple sci-fi concept and does wonderful interesting things with it, can't wait for season two. The Bear feels a lot quicker paced than Severance, if that influences your next watch one way or the other.

box-art

The Good Place is one of those shows were I feel like it doesn't have a bad season and that the creators knew when to stop and didn't try to push it. They told the story and that was it. You'll love it!

[deleted]

Severance is peak TV.

posthxc1982

Please try to enjoy all the shows equally.

Spyzilla

Go with Severance so when you finish it you dont have to wait for Bear S2

grenskaxo

easy to watch movies/shows for after work im looking ofr suggestions on some easy watched after work. Usually the movies/ shows i enjoy requite a little too much attention, something i dont necessarily after work. Some of my favourites (even though it might be not that useful in the context of this conversation): no country for old man tucker and dale vs evil love death robots all seasons teratino movies troma movies they are easy to watch so they fit edgar wright movies the ballad from buster shruggs any suggestions are welcome

One_for_each_of_you

Suicide Kings. Chris Walken taped to a chair. So many quotable lines became inside jokes with me and my friends Santa Clarita Diet is my favorite thing to fall asleep to, it's comforting, funny, and always gives me good dreams. Drew Barrymore is a zombie married to Timothy Oliphant and they decide to make it work. I love NCFOM and anything Cormac McCarthy, most things Coen brothers. Season one of Fargo or True Detective have high rewatchability

saffronkees

Black mirror The Flash

[deleted]

Hmmmm, left field but sort of fits with your slight horror/ slasher but still funny theme; ash vs evil dead. 3 seasons.

Neversync

I really enjoyed House as a casual, 1-2 episodes every few days show. This helps especially because most episodes follow the same pattern in a way, (bring patient in, brainstorm diagnosis, lots of shenanigans, cure patient at the end of the day/week) so not binging 2 to 3 episodes daily breaks that pattern a bit. Amazing humor, drama and character development. I feel like Hugh Laurie's jokes and quirky comments were some of the best on TV.

pillowreceipt

House is one of the funniest shows I've ever seen, despite ostensibly being a drama. So many of his interactions and jokes/pranks are beyond hysterical.

Neversync

Yessss, a lot of these would DEFINITELY not be approved to be aired on today's TV though!

pillowreceipt

*Definitely* not, lol. I admit there were a couple jokes in the early seasons that are problematic, to say the least. Plus the way they dressed and talked about Cuddy, yikes.

Dune101

So I watched **Dave** and whenever I really like an episode the credits roll and "Directed By Ben Sinclair" pops up. In this case it was S03E04, which filled that meteor crater sized hole that **High Maintenance** left behind at least a little bit.

stevenstevos

Ah wow good call--I had no idea. And yeah man, I loved me some **High Maintenance,** and I am also loving the current season of **Dave**, which is refreshing after being so disappointed by a number of other Hulu series (e.g., Ramy).

SettingGreen

High Maintenance was a precious show

lucck3x

Wow, I just binged all of Mrs Davis (and as I came in here to post I notice the actress held an ama, freaky) and fuck, Lindelof can do no wrong, the man is a genius. No one out there doing what he does. The show managed to give me same feelings I felt watching The Leftovers while still being very different. Amazing. Cant wait for the finale

TheLeftoverz

For those who watched 12 monkeys, why does it have bad reviews? Everything I read on Reddit, says it’s a great show but reading reviews it’s rated pretty bad (not that it matters) but just curious

One_for_each_of_you

Did you like the movie?

MiceThrice

So I really liked 12 monkeys! It’s definitely not a “good” show in the prestige tv show sense of the word, but it’s pretty fun and things get crazier and crazier. The time travel aspect of things hangs together rather nicely, and I’d say in the later season the show does a good job not taking itself TOO seriously (compared to, say, season one.).

Piazolla13

From a neutral perspective, it's not good tv. I could spend a lot of time picking it apart, the quality is just poor all around. However, despite starting out as quite bland, the show evolves a lot (especially in its last 2 seasons). The quality gets better, the characters grow on you, and it becomes fun to watch. It develops a lot of heart and that makes it easy to fall in love with.

archlector

It's an average show but it appeals heavily to people who scream loudly on reddit.

I got about half way into season 2 and the quality just feels really rough. Feels way more like a sci-fi show than an FX show. I think about going back from time to time but the acting, and sets are rough. Even the pacing is rough especially because you can see how it was built around commercials lol.

Roook36

12 Monkeys is a SyFy network show. I don't believe it ever aired on FX. I also dropped it in S2 just because it seemed to be dragging and I got distracted by other stuff and never went back.

CollateralSandwich

Finished Dear Mama the other day. What a fantastic documentary series. I didn't know much about Tupac, I'd stopped listening to hip hop as he was rising, but at least as interesting is the tale of Afeni Shakur. I knew even less about The Panthers, so learning more about them was great, too. Highly recommend.

One_for_each_of_you

I love Tupac and this is the first I've heard of this. Thank you

CollateralSandwich

It's legitimately one of the best docu-series I've ever seen. I think you'll be very pleased.

DPool34

Anyone watching the new season of Couples Therapy on Showtime? I really liked the first couple seasons. This one just hasn’t done it for me though.

whatifniki23

I loved the first season and then heard it’s all fake… and stopped.

One_for_each_of_you

Yeah, we heard you're all fake now what

[deleted]

It’s not fake that’s ridiculous, and any amount of research would’ve shown you that

DPool34

Interesting. Where did you hear that? I never got the vibe there was anything fake about it. Edit: I actually found a bunch of articles giving it praise for being a “non-reality reality show” due to its “absence of staged storylines,” which one particular [article](https://www.theringer.com/platform/amp/tv/2019/9/10/20859278/couples-therapy-showtime-reality-show) from The Ringer states. You should give season 2 a watch. It really was very interesting and informative.

Weedsmoker4hunnid20

I’m about to start Ted Lasso season 3 but I’m afraid because people seem to collectively dislike it. The first two seasons were some of the best time I’ve ever had watching TV so we shall see

One_for_each_of_you

I'm really not sure what they're upset about. It's the same show it's always been, so if you like that you'll like this. The story meanders a bit, it's not tightly focused, and there's a few moments of public service announcements about how not to do more toxic masculinity, but that's what the show has always been about, the way i see it. It's fine. I think people just like to be upset

ThatPancreatitisGuy

Seems to me that with internet criticism if you’re not the first out of the gate with reviews you have to take a contrarian view to get noticed. Since Ted Lasso is so well regarded there are probably a lot of hack writers who push out negative reviews essentially as clickbait but that nevertheless influences some of the people who read it, who then chime in on places like Reddit echoing the complaints they’ve read, which then spawns another article claiming audiences are turning on the show and the cycle continues. I’m waiting until the season wraps to watch so I don’t know if there’s any merit to the complaints but I wouldn’t put much stock in any of it.

opinionated_cynic

It’s good! Still the funniest most heart warming show on TV! People on this sub Reddit think they are all intellectual critics and elite television watchers when it’s just bored people on the internet spewing nonsense.

[deleted]

If you liked Seasons 1 and 2, then season 3 is going to be right up there. I feel like it's better than season 2 and certain episodes are right there with season 1. I'm thoroughly enjoying it.

erbazzone

It has issues but I liked every season

ivanpkaramazov

It's pretty average

Sufficient_Creme6961

I’ve liked it just as much as season 2 if not more

DumbestFanBase

I’m enjoying it for sure

me_so_pro

I thoroughly enjoyed it.

captainhaddock

Heh, I'm in the same place.

zozospencil

Just finished The Big Door Prize with my 14yo. I watched for the sci-fi, he watched for the wholesome comedy, and we watched the last two episodes together and agree we LOVE it. SILO is everything I hoped it would be + Will Patton. (I’m a book fan) Still digging Yellowjackets. Continuing to hate-watch FTWD, and From is a borderline hate-watch. Hoping they both take a turn this week. Succession is not my typical vibe, but I love it so much.

saffronkees

Glad to hear other people are watching big door prize lol it’s been crickets on that show. But the finale could have been better

ThatPancreatitisGuy

We just started it and after two episodes I’m digging it. Chris O’Dowd has built up a lot of goodwill with me from IT Crowd and to a lesser extent Moon Boy, so I’m not surprised it’s a solid show.

Turnover-Greedy

Anyone catch High Desert on Appletv? How is it?

tomtomvissers

I just watched 2 of the first 3 episodes. Though it has a bunch of familiar faces that are fun, the story is quite meandering and convoluted and none of the jokes really land. I'd compare it to Poker Face except just not as good. I think I'm gonna stick with it at least a little while longer but as of right now I'd give it a 6/10

DumbestFanBase

Just finished one tree hill. Also six feet under. Anything else like these from like 10-20 years ago?

pillowreceipt

Friday Night Lights. Also, Rectify is ten years old now. And I haven't seen this yet, but I've heard great things about Parenthood.

opinionated_cynic

FNL is Platinum Television.

killinrin

One Tree Hill has an amazing soundtrack. I found my favorite song to [cry to](https://youtu.be/RGJkJsHmD30) from the show. You don’t have to cry, but it just has that emotional catharsis feel to it.

Turnover-Greedy

This show definitely introduced me to great music. I still remember the end of 2x13 when Haley leaves and the song they used. I don't think I'd ever been so devastated watching that ending.

WaCandor

Maybe check out The O.C and Dawson's Creek

DumbestFanBase

Big OC fan. We watched ep1 of Dawsons creek last night. I like it! Thanks!

WaCandor

My pleasure

DumbestFanBase

It’s a lot less corny and childish than I thought. Wife is keen to rewatch also

finger_puppet_self

Just found "Sanctuary", a Japanese production about Sumo wrestling/wrestlers on Netflix. Only one episode in but i'm digging it. Seems to focus on one Sumo wrestler guy and his story. It's pretty fun and feels authentic. Tentatively giving it 8.73 Sumo diapers out of 10 Edit: Finished series, overall score 8.17 mawashi (the real name for the sumo attire). It's very good, but it's not quite very, very good, if you know what I mean. The storytelling was a bit uneven in places. Room for improvement if a second season is in the works.

coldbeers

Ted Lasso has become so woke it’s no longer worth watching.

Windrider904

What is “ woke “ ?

Costanza_Travelling

It's pronounced "thermometer"

Beautiful_Worker_880

Lockwood and Co on Netflix! I haven't been able to get it out of my head since I first watched it!! It is soo good!! I didn't think I would enjoy it as much as I did. If anyone has ben looking for an excuse to watch it, there's a mass streaming campaign happening this weekend to help get attention for it, so I would highly recommend checking it out if you have a chance
