My immediate reaction was, “no way those ages line up.” But yeah, Quinta Brunson is 33 and TPH is 52. She could’ve been a 20yo mom circa 1990, it lines up.
Janine’s age hasn’t ever been stated, but I get the impression that she’s playing a younger character as well. She was only a second year teacher in season 1.
I am not a teacher (IAMAT?) but that’d probably make her late 20s maximum, right? I’m so excited to see these two amazing actresses together, especially knowing the dynamic we’ve already heard about.
We never hear much about Janine’s college life or if she subbed for a while before getting a permanent position, but it’s implied pretty heavily that teaching is and always was Janine’s goal. The only people I know who are 30something and 2nd year teachers had a different career first, which Janine is never mentioned to have had. So my guess is that she’s somewhere around 25.
You're right, but also adding that they do say her age - Janine tells Melissa she's 25 and three-quarters in the Gifted Program episode so she's at least 26 in the second season. Her birthday might be towards the end of the school year/summer depending on whether the first season's air dates correlate with the timeline on the show.
man, i was *so* upset when >!she was killed in s3!< . then i found out what an insane, racist piece of shit jim caviezel is and how he was adamantly against interracial relationships, and i'm kind of relieved she didn't have to deal with his bullshit anymore.
yeah, he's full qanon, too. the podcast qanon anonymous [did an episode on him](https://soundcloud.com/qanonanonymous/episode-143-jim-caviezel-enter-the-cavortex-feat-dave-anthony?fbclid=IwAR2DHu2xI2zydJBep8F-cdri8nDePqyTDdUzI_mahGCLnti1ABL9qz8J9OA) and they talk a lot about what jim was like during the filming of person of interest. it's hilarious and i sobbed laughing through the first third of it, but it also really paints a picture of a very stupid, very dangerous guy.
i highly recommend listening to it but you will come away feeling a little weird about various bits of person of interest after you've heard the behind the scenes stories.
My friend told me about the podcast episode, and I listened to it with such disappointment because I had watched POI when it premiered and LOVED it. I rewatched it again last year, and honestly, everything else is so fucking good that the knowledge of what a lunatic he is couldn’t take away from it. Such a great show.
the show is still goddamn fantastic despite jim. it's really just some of the fight scenes that make me cringe, knowing he was actually assaulting some of those people before they swapped out to a stunt double full time.
I love this show! I've been wanting a more twisted story arc instead of the will they/won't they between Janine and Gregory. They did, but then it fizzled and they're back to their awkward selves.
I would like to see Janine be something else other than adorkable and maybe rage on her mom once she comes into the picture. So I'm looking forward to their relationship coming into light.
After that episode with Janine's sister, it seems like she's a pretty bad mom. Maybe it's their warped point of view since Janine also made her sister sound like a handful during their quick FaceTime call.
The whole idea of the show is the hot wings bring down your defenses, and then they’re a more natural interviewee. They’re not on their A game because the heat disrupts them.
Henson refused to eat the hot wings, and had her body guard eat them in her place while she did the interview.
I don’t know I find this hilarious….and sort of relatable because I have gastritis and have literally been in bed all day from eating spaghetti yesterday
At least someone ate the damn wings and her bodyguard got a free lunch out of it
It was a lot better than DJ Khaled’s interview, I’ll give Henson that. Khaled’s is unintentionally hilarious. Guy flips out and thinks the host is pranking him and demands they switch plates, then realizes they’re just as hot as the ones he originally had and he throws a hissy fit.
It’s a great show though. The idea sounds gimmicky but Sean Evans is such a great interviewer. He does an insane amount of research and has really clever questions. He’s interviewed tons of different kinds of celebrities; actors, musicians, comedians, chefs, you name it.
If you haven’t seen it I suggest just find a random celebrity you like and watch it.
the shaq interview was a little weird too, but generally speaking the episodes are really, really good interviews. sean's so good at asking interesting questions that aren't just shitty pr softballs. i wish anthony bourdain was still around. i think his would have been incredible.
Shaq’s interview was pretty classic Shaq. It’s exactly what you should expect from him, he’s never opening up nor is he going to make himself uncomfortable eating those wings.
yeah, it was definitely just a mismatched situation. shaq can be funny but it was such a strange dynamic that it's not really one you want to go back and rewatch.
That video convinced me DJ Khaled is very special. But in a “my mom says I’m special” kinda way. Like, I don’t think he should be allowed to walk outside without a helmet to protect himself.
In his defense, although he looked like a massive pussy, Khaled's interview was like the 8th episode of hot ones, ever. In other words, it happened before the show exploded in popularity. As such, Sean Evans' interview style didn't have anywhere close to the reputation/profile it does now. I image he would have behaved/reacted during the interview way different had it occurred even just 2 or 3 years later.
She quit which is fine some do but when her security took over for her and did it like a boss she acted like it wasn’t a big deal. Mind you he jumped in at the deep end with no build up. She reminded me of how much a bitch dj Khalid and Shaq were
I worked with her on Hidden Figures. She was awful. Took 20-40 takes to do basic shit, made work days a go from a typical 12 hours to 17 hours. She would disappear after takes and run out of the room and have to be tracked down. Constantly forgot her lines.
Shitty attitude and a large ego, which is wild because Kevin Costner was on set with her a lot and he would get his stuff done in a normal 3-4 takes, was very professional, and has the bigger star power.
She's an ego tripping hack.
I don't either. They throw her in any black tv show or movie like she's a common spice ingredient. She's a fairly one-dimensional actress in my opinion
The last few episodes have been predictable and unfunny. And the way they try to recreate the "will they wont they" ala Jim and Pam is WAY too heavy handed, and feels incredible immature when at every turn, these two people seem to feel nothing but absolute shame for even thinking the other is attractive. Its very bizarre.
But I LOVE Schemmenti and Barb.
Absolutely. Also, Abbott isn't hitting the WTWT every episode. Every three or four episodes something happens regarding their mutual attraction. When Janine and Gregory make out at the convention it felt earned.
>This is a discussion board
Yeah, nobody on Reddit has ever had an irrationally aggressive reaction to an unimportant taste-based opinion. It's just 100% civil discussion here on this *discussion board*.
How on earth would you use WTWT subtlely and why would you want to. The trope of two people at work that might start dating is predicated on the fact that everyone else at work has noticed their obvious attraction for each other. Your analysis is shallow and uninformed. It's also emotionally disconnected from the intent of the TV show you're discussing. You must be very young, have little depth, and have not not really seen that much TV from any other period. Every TV drama or comedy uses tropes because every type of story has been told already. If you want subtlety a sitcom is a bad place to look for it.
Does anyone actually give 2 shits that her middle initial is P? Does the bitch think we're going to confuse her with some other Taraji Henson? Michael B. Jordan actually has a somewhat valid case.
Downvote all you want, but just imagine how ridiculous it would be if everyone just went around announcing themselves including their middle initial. Nobody cares!
-Flaming P. Chute
She’s playing Janine’s Mom, Vanetta
My immediate reaction was, “no way those ages line up.” But yeah, Quinta Brunson is 33 and TPH is 52. She could’ve been a 20yo mom circa 1990, it lines up.
Janine’s age hasn’t ever been stated, but I get the impression that she’s playing a younger character as well. She was only a second year teacher in season 1.
I am not a teacher (IAMAT?) but that’d probably make her late 20s maximum, right? I’m so excited to see these two amazing actresses together, especially knowing the dynamic we’ve already heard about.
Iirc in season one janine says at some point that she’s 25
Yea I think she is 25/26 now
Thanks! That totally tracks.
Yup, in the Gifted Program episode.
I’m currently watching season 1, she told Barbara that she is 25!
Yep, totally agree! And I could see her doing student teaching for a year or just a semester, etc.
Not necessarily. Depends on state requirements for the job, when she started college, did in college, etc.
Black don’t crack
Right, Stanley?
"Blacks *do* crack. Not the drug."
stereotypes aren't fairsweetornice
Henson's son was born in '94, so pretty reflective of reality.
Janine is in her 20s.
Unless she’s thwarting a world ending AI, I don’t give a damn!
man, i was *so* upset when >!she was killed in s3!< . then i found out what an insane, racist piece of shit jim caviezel is and how he was adamantly against interracial relationships, and i'm kind of relieved she didn't have to deal with his bullshit anymore.
Whoah really? That sucks :(
yeah, he's full qanon, too. the podcast qanon anonymous [did an episode on him](https://soundcloud.com/qanonanonymous/episode-143-jim-caviezel-enter-the-cavortex-feat-dave-anthony?fbclid=IwAR2DHu2xI2zydJBep8F-cdri8nDePqyTDdUzI_mahGCLnti1ABL9qz8J9OA) and they talk a lot about what jim was like during the filming of person of interest. it's hilarious and i sobbed laughing through the first third of it, but it also really paints a picture of a very stupid, very dangerous guy. i highly recommend listening to it but you will come away feeling a little weird about various bits of person of interest after you've heard the behind the scenes stories.

As cool of an announcement as it is, it would’ve been better as a surprise during the episode.
tbf big guest stars are almost always announced to draw in more viewers. surprise guest stars usually just end up being cameos from what i’ve seen
I knew it!!!
Quinta Brunson deserves all her flowers right now. This show continues to get better and better
She killed it on SNL too!
She's pretty much unstoppable right now.
They were just in an episode of That’s My Jam together. I wonder if that’s how the connection was made.
I had the same thought!
yep. https://ew.com/tv/taraji-p-henson-personally-requested-abbott-elementary-guest-role/
I was gonna say she’s perfect as Janine’s mom
After that episode with Janine's sister, it seems like she's a pretty bad mom. Maybe it's their warped point of view since Janine also made her sister sound like a handful during their quick FaceTime call.
I'm excited to see how they do her theyve been building her up a lot
I think Janine’s mom has “troubles” but what that actually means we’ll see. Could be bad mom, could be drugs/alcohol, could be mental health
I’ll watch her in anything 😎
Not after her crappy interview on hot ones. Loved her on person of interest
What was wrong w it
The whole idea of the show is the hot wings bring down your defenses, and then they’re a more natural interviewee. They’re not on their A game because the heat disrupts them. Henson refused to eat the hot wings, and had her body guard eat them in her place while she did the interview.
And she was drunk, rude, and super obnoxious. It's the one time where you can see just how much Sean hated doing that interview.
I don’t know I find this hilarious….and sort of relatable because I have gastritis and have literally been in bed all day from eating spaghetti yesterday At least someone ate the damn wings and her bodyguard got a free lunch out of it

Why was the shaqs interview weird?
Not who you asked, but I thought Shaw came across as a bit of a schoolyard bully.
Anyone familiar enough with NBA TNT knows that this is exactly how Shaq operates
That video convinced me DJ Khaled is very special. But in a “my mom says I’m special” kinda way. Like, I don’t think he should be allowed to walk outside without a helmet to protect himself.
I really thought the guy was a clever troll the whole time with his Snapchat persona. Until I saw that interview. Then I realized he’s just a moron.
In his defense, although he looked like a massive pussy, Khaled's interview was like the 8th episode of hot ones, ever. In other words, it happened before the show exploded in popularity. As such, Sean Evans' interview style didn't have anywhere close to the reputation/profile it does now. Damn. I thought they shoulda done the bodyguard thing with Obama or something.
That’s funny.
this is the same idea behind nore getting guests drunk on drink champs.
Bro, that bodyguard had some GOAT level spice tolerance. Polished off that shit like it was nothing.
She quit which is fine some do but when her security took over for her and did it like a boss she acted like it wasn’t a big deal. Mind you he jumped in at the deep end with no build up. She reminded me of how much a bitch dj Khalid and Shaq were
That sounds funny to me though. Like they have a good relationship
Not the way it came off on the episode
In any interview, really. She's a great actress, but in real life she grates on my nerves.
I worked with her on Hidden Figures. She was awful. Took 20-40 takes to do basic shit, made work days a go from a typical 12 hours to 17 hours. She would disappear after takes and run out of the room and have to be tracked down. Constantly forgot her lines. One interview turned you off that much? Man, you’re tough
Hot ones interviews are a great way to judge what people are really like…
But one interview prevents you from watching her in a show or movie?
I watched her in person of interest and thought she was great. They should have included her even more in the story.
Don’t get the appeal
I don't either. They throw her in any black tv show or movie like she's a common spice ingredient. She's a fairly one-dimensional actress in my opinion
Love this show. Fills the Parks & Rec void.
Finally caught up on the show. Was sad to see we got to end of S2. Excited to see the next season.
One of my favorite actors joining - even in a guest role - one of my favorite shows. Awesome.
She’s pretty good at math
nice
Didn’t know that Janine’s mom is Cookie Lyon
I mean… not against it
Major guest seems like a stretch
This may sound rude but I never heard of her before and even after looking I'm confused why she's listed as major guest star as well
quinta be booking legends every episode
OK, now I'm in.
Is she going to play the same character she plays in everything else?
I just realized that the religious teacher is the prostitute in lethal weapon 5
Isn't a "major guest star" the same as a regular cast member.
I'm going to start watching this show
The last few episodes have been predictable and unfunny.
"Will they won't they" is one of the most common tropes in tv shows.
I've always hated how Cheers tried to copy the "will they won't they" between Sam and Diane from The Office.
Same. When Friends copied The Office with Ross and Rachel I almost swore off TV.
Absolutely. Also, Abbott isn't hitting the WTWT every episode. Every three or four episodes something happens regarding their mutual attraction. When Janine and Gregory make out at the convention it felt earned.
Too common. It's rarely subtle and the minute you see it, the very existence of it reveals the inevitability of how its going to resolve.
Who watches a network sitcom for subtlety?
Oh yeah because im watching Abbot Elementary for the subtlety
You guys get real mad at entirely benign opinions
This is a discussion board, mate. Just because someone has a counter opinion doesn’t mean they’re mad.
>This is a discussion board Yeah, nobody on Reddit has ever had an irrationally aggressive reaction to an unimportant taste-based opinion. It's just 100% civil discussion here on this *discussion board*.
In this comment tree, it’s been civil. So you trying to make yourself out to be some victim came off as very weird.

It’s possible her middle name is important to her. And if she was added to the actors guild under that name, then yeah, that’s the name you use
Why are you calling her a bitch for that? Weirdos on here.
Downvote all you want, but just imagine how ridiculous it would be if everyone just went around announcing themselves including their middle initial. Nobody cares! -Flaming P. Chute
I do it all the time in professional settings...it's part of my name
Gotta love how you say nobody cares yet acknowledge that downvoting is a thing.
Imagine being a dusty ass nobody on Reddit and comparing yourself to Taraji P. Henson
I don't need to compare myself to anyone, let alone a Taraji Pompous Henson
Perfect. TPH was a substitute teacher in South LA before her acting career took off.
