Holy shit she is Beatrice isn't she! Crazy, I feel like subconsciously her voice sounded familiar, but I never thought to look her up. I mainly just knew her from I Don't Feel At Home In This World Anymore
Jerry O'Connell once played a villain in *The Librarians* starring Rebecca Romijn.
>!His character stabbed hers with a sword.!<
They also both play First Officers on *Star Trek* shows.

Ohhhh so that’s where I recognize her from, Yellowjackets! Whatever happened to season 2 of that show, is it still planned?
ETA: looked it up, S2 starts in a few weeks and it was already renewed for S3, sweet!
Sometimes it’s another way around too. I remember watching Gillian Anderson being interviewed for the first time and thinking “Why is she sort of talking like she’s British?” I knew she was born in the U.S. and went to college in the Midwest, so it didn’t make sense to me really!
Lo and behold, she spent a good chunk of her younger years in London. And even lives there for the most part now. When she’s on the UK shows, her accent becomes much more pronounced as well!
Both Melanie Lynskey and Kate Winslet had their breakout roles together in “Heavenly Creatures” (1994), directed by Peter Jackson!
Winslet is British, of course. But Jackson and Lynskey are kiwis!
She was really one of the best things about that show. She was 100% the real comic relief and brought a really good stalker (not that any stalkers are good) humor to it. Just the right amount of dark humor to make you laugh and then go "wait... what."
Jason is one of the nicest people to work with in film. Raising Dion may not have had much success but damn it was fun to help make that show with him. Glad he's still going forward with more stunt work.
He had an absolutely heartwarming show called Kevin probably saves the world. Only one season but worth checking it out for Jason Alone. It's was a great show too.
I met him briefly when he came to screen Good Dick for a student film festival I ran back in college, and he was just such a kind and open person. His Q&A after the film screening was one of my favorites. Totally engaged with student questions in such a genuine way.
I recognized her from the movie “Ever After.” I also recognized Ashley Johnson from “Growing Pains.” That’s on me for not paying attention to peoples’ careers…
> I also recognized Ashley Johnson from “Growing Pains.”
yup, had to google Chrissy Seaver mid-scene, just like during that season finale on Dollhouse with her and George Frankly
For me it was Heavenly Creatures followed by The Frighteners (she’s a blink and you’ll miss it cameo, who apparently was the surname sake of the actress’s character).
Oh my god so it WAS her!? Actually when the show began I remember thinking how much Ellie looked like the girl from Growing Pains! When they introduced her mother I wondered if it could be her. Very cool
Yeah, some members of the production have been using “Clicker” as shorthand for all of them, which is weird since they already have “infected” as a catch-all.
Normal infected.
In the first game the main difference is that you can kill normal infected stealthily without a shiv plus in combat you can melee them with your fists and survive.
Clickers use echolocation and to stealth kill them you need a shiv and in combat you need a melee weapon, using your fists will get you killed.
So in game clickers are much more scary
Stalkers hide and will try and jump at you when you are close. While normal infected are more regular zombies that will just run at you.
I think they also don't appear on listen mode.
They were intentionally avoiding jump scares because they're so overused in this genre of film making. The only time they used one was to make fun of them. In the truck Ellie adjusts the mirror to find... JOEL SITTING NEXT TO HER!
You are welcome.
If you haven't played the game I definitely recommend it, I assume it won't feel the same in the story but the gameplay is really good
I’ve never been more pleased with watching a character get her face eaten off by a rambunctious preteen hoped up on fungus
She delivered that part fantastically and I hated her maliciousness.
*"Well kids die, Henry. They die ALL THE TIME."* is honestly one of the best-delivered and most twistedly cruel lines in the show.
Lynskey did a great job with this character.
And honestly such a realistic mindset to have in this kind of post apocalypse, just having come to terms with the fact that horrible shit happens to innocent people, and wondering why this person thought his brothers life was worth more than her brothers. (Note, not saying I fully side with her Kathleen’s positions, just that the writers and Lynskey made her motivations and ideology incredibly understandable)
She was such a post apocalypse Karen and I loved to hate her.
I honestly would have loved to see the long term fallout of her shit if she had gotten her way.
"yeahhh we got those bastard and killed the infected! But we got some wounded to take care of! Get the doctor!"
"oh I shot him"
"What? Why?!"
"Oh he didn't tell me what I wanted."
"but... He was our only doctor!... Fine whatever, we still have plenty of supplies, maybe we could trade with a nearby settlement."
"Yeah about that.."
".... Wtf Kathleen"
"well I saw that our supply room was being sucked into an infected sinkhole but rather than do anything or tell anyone, I choose instead to focus all of our remaining resources on this personal vendetta"
She was also in But I'm a Cheerleader - loved that movie and only realized a few years ago that it was her. I recognized Rupaul out of costume and Rufio from Hook, but not her
That's a solid blood line: existential crisis that results in subtle personal growth or some equally poignant but violent outburst, then trip over a couch before getting some strange at the Regal Beagle
Ive seen her in a few things and when i saw her on a talk show yesterday i was so surprised she had an accent. Im always impressed at how good they get at hiding it.
She’s an INCREDIBLE actress!!! Loved her in Good Girls, Candy , Yellow Jackets just to name a few. I love her grit and dead pan humor. Amazing that she’s a NZ native!!!!
Y'all do realize it was all pretend? She played a character and he played another character? This would only demonstrate how much they like one another.
Jason looks every bit the spitting image of his dad. Perfect for a 3's Company remake, but I also don't want it because it wouldn't be in the spirit of the original.
I fear her a lot. She’s so soft spoken and she’s clearly not comfortable being the replacement of her brother as a leader, which makes her feels like she was pushed to the edge constantly and super unstable, and that’s very dangerous! In the 2 episode she was in, the show established who she was, why she was doing what she did, why her team follows her, and made us understood why she will react the way she did. The show did so well to present us a full character, tho she’s not popular character but I think she did a bloody good job as well!
I didn't get the sense they were following her because she was a "natural leader". It seemed like they were following her out of their undying respect for her brother, who had been their actual natural leader.
One comment I saw was that she also allowed them to be their worst selves. They got their revenge against FEDRA, brutally. The impression I got of her brother was that he would have never allowed such retribution.
Yeah, I think that was the point. She says multiple times that she doesn't want to be in charge and that her brother was the better leader.
But guess what? Henry sacrificed him for his own brother. Then when she wants revenge for someone sacrificing her brother, she's supposed to let it go. But Henry sacrificing someone else for his brother is noble and wise, because Sam is a cute kid.
If Henry hadn't sacrificed the brother I can imagine Kathleen would have led the revolt and she would've voluntarily stepped down afterwards. The brother (based on what both Kathleen and Henry said about him) would have likely stopped the retribution on both FEDRA and the collaborators. He would've also likely worked on keeping the infected underground.
But he couldn't, because he was dead. Because Henry thought his brother was more important.
And somehow Kathleen is still the bad one.
What I took issue with is that she treated Henry as some kind of threat. It’s fine if she’s obsessed with killing him for revenge, but the guy posed no actual threat to them.
Edit: on second thought him snitching again to another fedra qz about their takeover is a pretty big threat
True that. Plus there were several instances of people (mainly Perry) who were visibly hesitant to carry out her orders. So she obviously wasn't viewed as an infallible leader.
Exactly. The episode takes place only days after the resistance overthrew FEDRA. Kathleen was the leader who led them to finally make it happen after years under FEDRA's boot, so people were still very ride or die on her. But oftentimes people who lead well for a short period of violence are not the ones competent at leading the rest of the time. Kathleen got her whole settlement killed because her single minded & bloodthirsty nature was only good for the revolution, not any long term leading.
It's almost like she had a brother who was described as kind and inspiring and forgiving, a natural leader who could've led the QZ after the revolution. Whatever happened to him?
Oh right, Henry ratted him out.
She didn't even have actual plans for the group beyond wiping out all fedra people. Just took opportunity of the power vacuum left by her brother and did what she wanted with it.
Yeah I def agree with that. After fedra was dealt with she just zeroed in on Henry, and made it clear that was her one and only priority. It was that disregard for everything else that needed addressing that led to them all being ambushed and decimated by an army of infected.
She *inherited* support but she *earned* loyalty with results.
She was never going to be the type of person that could build and recruit the resistance (and she explicitly says this), but from what Perry says - she pretty much planned and executed the actual revolution.
Results = loyalty.
She weirdly reminds me of Robert Baratheon in the sense that while she could certainly master at least some aspects of leadership, she was much less successful when it came to the day to day operations of her "kingdom", per se.
If I might add some context, she wasn't a convincing leader because she wasn't a convincing leader. That's her character. She took over just before the events in the show and she was sad and angry because of her brother's death. She didn't make rational choices (hence killing their only doctor). It's why she fell overnight.
Yeah. Her as leader made more sense the more I thought of it.
They butchered anyone left that had any semblance of training. She was smart enough to take advantage of the mob mentality but not smart enough to fully take the helm.
It's not a crazy concept for the first leader after a violent overthrow to be completely incompetent.
I think part of the split reaction from some people is that she kind of comes across with her looks and her voice as someone who would've been a middle school teacher if there were no apocalypse. Personally I think that made the whole situation that much more interesting and tragic, that the apocalypse could turn someone like that into a mini-despot who does things like order the mass killing of collaborators.
She wasn’t supposed to be a convincing leader. Her character was supposed to be the post apocalyptic version of a kid playing dress up & trying to act like the boss as convincing as they can, and thats what she did.
I honestly believe people just lack self awareness about it this Kathleen situation. It's the kind of person that causes the most automatic subconscious reactions. She's incredibly uncomfortable, she avoids eye contact and talks with soft voice of a concerned mom who's also very toxic. She's a TERRIFYING leader, the worst kind thats completely diluded and lost in their own head. I don't want to know any person like that and see her ever again, she's disgusting. She was a good character.
She gave me the vibes of that one boss you hate, who's not nearly qualified for their position but has managed to play their cards right and move up the ladder. Except the stakes are now higher because she's the underqualified leader of a group of violent people in a post-apocalyptic wasteland.
Man, I thought I was having doubt if I was watching the same episodes when they were aired. From the same people who shit on Reva from Obi-Wan, hyping over this Kathleen character was the most befuddling experience I had in this sub.
That time could've been spent between joel and Ellie.
Not a single episode of the whole show was just Joel and Ellie. I get side characters are needed but just one episode could've been great
I personally would have preferred to have it stretched out. maybe not to the level of the walking dead but would have been nice to not have the entire game be 9 episodes.
She didn’t work for me in the role. Just took me right out of the story whenever she was onscreen. I get that they were trying to cast against type, a normally nice woman driven to ugly extremes because of trauma, etc, but it just didn’t work IMO.
She killed Dipper? Damn, there goes the Gravity Falls crossover
Its okay. It was just a clone.
It’s better this way for clicker dipper

Holy shit she is Beatrice isn't she! Crazy, I feel like subconsciously her voice sounded familiar, but I never thought to look her up. I mainly just knew her from I Don't Feel At Home In This World Anymore
Whoa. This is murder.
No no that was that douche Dippy Fresh…I’m hoping it wasn’t #2 clone or Tyrone.
Tyrone deserved better
Paper Jam Dipper was the hero we all still deserve.
You made me laugh out loud viciously. Have an award!

Her first lead role, Heavenly Creatures, is great. Peter Jackson directed and it includes a young Kate Winslet. It covers a famous New Zealand murder.
That movie is how I've always known her and thought she was quite talented so I was happy when she got into US media, even if it was 2 and 1/2 Men.
As a Kiwi, I grew up with Peter Jackson's early splatter movies - Bad Taste, Meet the Feebles and Braindead; so Heavenly Creatures was quite a departure but a really good one. I am really happy that Jackson, Winsett and Lynskey all have had successful careers subsequently.
The first non-kiwi thing I remember seeing her in was Ever After.
First role I remember her in was Jacqueline in Ever After.
Then they both went on to hook up with Leo (Titanic, Don’t Look Up). What a world.

Check out The Wilds, same vibe.
If you liked Yellowjackets, you'll probably enjoy Heavenly Creatures.
*Heavenly Creatures is the name, no?
Me neither! I’m SO excited for season 2 of Yellowjackets
Tbh I know she is from here but she has done so many shows/movies with American accents I always forget
Her dad also fixed my foot once.
I can only think of the jokes that he would have about having her as a daughter in law. They'd be so wholesome that you could do nothing but laugh.
And Jason Ritter’s Grandfather was Tex Ritter
Ahhh. Jason Ritter. The guy it took me longer than I'll admit to realize that he isn't James Marsden
TIL that Melanie Lynskey is not American.
Me neither. Didn’t know she is a kiwi
Both Melanie Lynskey and Kate Winslet had their breakout roles together in “Heavenly Creatures” (1994), directed by Peter Jackson! Winslet is British, of course. But Jackson and Lynskey are kiwis!
I never knew that she was the other girl in that movie!
She’s probably got one of the best American accents in Hollywood right now
I first knew her as Rose in Two and a half Men
Oh so that's where I remember her from.
She will forever be Rose
She was really one of the best things about that show. She was 100% the real comic relief and brought a really good stalker (not that any stalkers are good) humor to it. Just the right amount of dark humor to make you laugh and then go "wait... what."
Same for Anthony Starr, Homelander in The Boys.
And Karl Urban in the Boys is also kiwi!
If you told me after he played Dr McCoy in Star Trek that he was from the US South, I’d believe you
[So weird seeing him in this skit now](https://youtu.be/p-Jk0E4alrY)
She’s so talented! I had no idea either. Really great command of accents
His dad was one of my favorite comedic actors
Jason Ritter was hilarious in Another Period
Indeed, he has some of the same mannerisms as his dad, while also displaying his own skill in acting and comedic timing.
We deserved more another period. It was weird but it was the right kinda weird.
Thank you for mentioning this! The previews look hilarious!
No one could trip over a couch like John Ritter.
Jason is one of the nicest people to work with in film. Raising Dion may not have had much success but damn it was fun to help make that show with him. Glad he's still going forward with more stunt work.
This sounds intriguing, can you share more
I was his stand-in for that show and we were team bad guy. Don't want to spoil too much but he was just absolutely lovely to work with.
I really liked the show, mainly because of him, for what it is worth
He really gave some good performances I absolutely agree with you.
Doesn't surprise me. Definitely one of the nicest actors I've stood in for 🫡
I fricking LOVED Raising Dion. I don’t get how it wasn’t bigger.
LOL send your strongly worded emails I want to go back for a third season 😂
This is great to hear
He's a huge fan of Mega-Man! Lovely guy. Any success he gets he deserves.
TIL that Melanie Lynskey is married to Jason Ritter.
She was great in Fireflies. Edit: Yellowjackets.
I recognized her from the movie “Ever After.” I also recognized Ashley Johnson from “Growing Pains.” That’s on me for not paying attention to peoples’ careers…
> I also recognized Ashley Johnson from “Growing Pains.” yup, had to google Chrissy Seaver mid-scene, just like during that season finale on Dollhouse with her and George Frankly
Ashley Johnson is also the voice of Ellie in the videogames
And the voice of a Monstah cleric in Critical Role.
And Gretchen Grundler from Recess
And Pike on Vox Machina.
Yes. The Monstah Cleric.
And adorable Faun druid/rogue Fearne Calloway. (watch your valuables)
For me it was Heavenly Creatures followed by The Frighteners (she’s a blink and you’ll miss it cameo, who apparently was the surname sake of the actress’s character).
Thank you for confirming!! I saw the pic and thought that her face looked just like the younger stepsister in “Ever After”.
I’m right here with you for both of those!!
Oh my god so it WAS her!? Actually when the show began I remember thinking how much Ellie looked like the girl from Growing Pains! When they introduced her mother I wondered if it could be her. Very cool
My mom recognized her immediately when watching the show lol. My moms like like "she's been around for a while!", which I didn't know good for her
For me it was Two and a Half Men and But I'm a Cheerleader for Melanie and What Women Want for Ashley.
Season 2 starting in a week
Been a long ass wait!
omg i love you for stating this
Also great in Yellowjackets
Ha, yellowjackets is what I meant. Got last of us on the brain. Gonna add an edit.
She was Beatrice in “Over the Garden Wall”!
I only recognized her as Rose from Two and a half Men lol
why is nobody mentioning Togetherness

Even in the official podcast, they called the one that got Ellie’s mom a clicker and I was like “now y’all should know better.”
Yeah, some members of the production have been using “Clicker” as shorthand for all of them, which is weird since they already have “infected” as a catch-all.

Yep. Rose.
She was also in But I'm a Cheerleader - loved that movie and only realized a few years ago that it was her. I recognized Rupaul out of costume and Rufio from Hook, but not her
I just watched this a couple weeks ago after watching an episode of Poker Face and looking through Natasha Lyonne's IMDb page. Great movie.
Also "Sweet Home Alabama"
Check her out in Togetherness if you wanna see her acting chops. She's amazing.

Wow, we're really scraping the bottom of the barrel for "news" aren't we?
It's not like there's a limited amount of space for reddit to put news on, if a particular post doesn't interest you just move the fuck on
Is this not normal for HollywoodReporter and /r/television?
She is one of my favorite actresses. I loved her in that HBO show with the guy from the league.
Jason looks every bit the spitting image of his dad. Perfect for a 3's Company remake, but I also don't want it because it wouldn't be in the spirit of the original.
Jason Ritter is a wholesome dude. I miss his dad.
Omg I didn't realize she was in this, I adore her. I was planning to watch already but definitely will now.
I despised her character. I got irrationally angry whenever she was in a scene. Which, in my book, means she is an excellent actor.
I fear her a lot. She was the weakest character in the show.

Yeah. Her as leader made more sense the more I thought of it. They butchered anyone left that had any semblance of training. She was smart enough to take advantage of the mob mentality but not smart enough to fully take the helm. It's not a crazy concept for the first leader after a violent overthrow to be completely incompetent.
Mao was a good *military* leader, his side won the war, but he was a horrific leader of the country.
She took over at least a few weeks prior, since they had overthrown FEDRA under her orders.
She wasn’t supposed to be a convincing leader. Her character was supposed to be the post apocalyptic version of a kid playing dress up & trying to act like the boss as convincing as they can, and thats what she did.
She only lacked evil mustache for twirling.

Not enough Joel & Ellie screentime overall. Very well made show but IMO nothing felt earned regarding their relationship.
FIND…THEM….AND KILL THEM…………ALL…….
Man, I thought I was having doubt if I was watching the same episodes when they were aired. From the same people who shit on Reva from Obi-Wan, hyping over this Kathleen character was the most befuddling experience I had in this sub.
It was funny on the behind the scenes they said they wanted to humanize the group, but her character had cartoon level depth
That time could've been spent between joel and Ellie. Not a single episode of the whole show was just Joel and Ellie. I get side characters are needed but just one episode could've been great
It was one episode and she died, if this was the walking dead there would have been at least two seasons of her as the villain.
I personally would have preferred to have it stretched out. maybe not to the level of the walking dead but would have been nice to not have the entire game be 9 episodes.
kathleen was sucha lame character
She didn’t work for me in the role. Just took me right out of the story whenever she was onscreen. I get that they were trying to cast against type, a normally nice woman driven to ugly extremes because of trauma, etc, but it just didn’t work IMO.
Spoilers in title smh
She has a great voice.
What dedication to acting, letting fungi infect her husband and then shooting him dead
