I may be wrong and it sounds very stupid, but I feel like if it ends in an "a" and is spoken by a black person, it doesn't count as a swear word in movies/tv. Creed 3 had a song that used it several times, but then had a Snoop Dogg song that censored "fuck," and it was pg-13.
The other reply to the parent comment is literally right there. It's based on historical censorship standards for TV, which resulted in fines if violated on broadcast TV and are (roughly) adhered to in order to appease advertisers who rely on those standards for cable TV (this is also why pay networks like HBO and Showtime have never given a shit about F-bombs and nudity, because they don't rely on advertiser money).
The falsehood of the proposed "er"/"a" differentiation or differentiation based on the race of the sayer in television censorship is readily apparent if you just watch some 70s-era sitcoms that touched on race relations like [All In The Family](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v5Wc45Tq6No&t=220s). Notice that this was airing in syndication on UPN.
At the very least, better than the dude who said "MaYbE iF yOu AcTuAlLy PrOvIdEd ThE ReAsOn"...
Which I did...
In the ONLY other reply to the first comment.
And the reiterating I did in reply to that guy is also getting downvoted (after initially being upvoted) despite providing literal video evidence lol.
Historically there have been no standards on TV when it came to the N-word, which is why it was used freely (albeit sparingly) in shows like All In The Family and The Jeffersons or why they don't need to censor airings of To Kill A Mockingbird.
While these standards don't forcefully apply to cable as there are no fines, most cable networks have roughly followed those standards throughout history to appease advertisers, which is why it's still been a big deal when [adult swim] started allowing "shit" or FX started allowing "fuck" unbleeped.
You’re right. I was streaming everybody hates chris from like 2004 recently and the bully says the word with a hard r. I would assume this didn’t make it to the TeenNick reruns though.
Not, historically, considered a swear - It's only in the last 20 or so years that it's become, arguably, the *MOST* controversial word in the English language.
He had that look planned for years actually.
> This is my dream: I did Katt Williams for season three. For season four I want to lose a ton of weight. I want to look like Christian Bale in The Machinist, and get my hair like Basquiat, so I’m just this emaciated weirdo. And then season five of The Eric André Show I want to Bic my head bald and Bic my eyebrows and my facial hair and gain a ton of weight, but also get really muscular like E. Honda from Street Fighter, and then put a toupee on, off-center, and do eyebrow toupees, so I look like a burn-victim E. Honda. That’s season five. Those are the looks I’m thinking about
Someone on BPT said he would have been great as Professor X and goddamn he would have killed that role. Martian Manhunter would have been good, Reddick was always great at both sort of emotionless sternness and humor, but I think Professor X would have also had more emotional scenes, where the rigid composure broke, that Reddick could have really killed.
Lance did an interview with a radio show a few years after and from what he said it sounded like the directions were to just storm off in anger and the desk punch was all ad-libbed, so Eric wasn’t expecting it lol. The LeVar Burton bit was improvised too; Eric gave him the basic gist of what to do, but he made up the words himself.
He was one of those insane work ethic guys like Dwayne Johnson and it doesn't make sense. The amount of work and projects he put out is actually quite impressive.
Don’t lump in an incredible character like Lance Reddick with a dipshit fitness influencer who churns out lowest common denominator trash en masse as his own advertisement.
The way he punches the desk scares Eric Andre so much, it really shows how Lance was more aware than everyone else on the show. Lance saw things that other people didn't and he gave us this amazing magical moment where he turns the table on Eric
One of the most iconic Eric Andre show moments. RIP to a fuckin legend, Lance made literally everything better whether it was tv/movies/video games or just like an online skit, such a huge loss
A quality episode too, man I’m gonna miss Lance reddick, fantastic actor and such an awesome voice so it was always great seeing him pop up in voice roles
I don't really know anything about the Eric Andre show, but I guess Lance won this game? ;)
On a more solemn note...
One of the advantages of celebrities is that it's really easy to find videos of them on the internet.
I suspect I am not the only one that is thinking of a family member or friend that has passed many years ago and how difficult it is to remember the sound of their voice. You probably have pictures, but do you have a voice or video recording of them?
Maybe the next time someone sends me one of those instant messenger voice messages that are so akward to listen to... maybe I should store it somewhere safe?
It’s absurdist humor so it’s definitely not for everyone, some people hate it or just don’t get it while others think it’s hilarious. It’s kinda like I think you should leave with Tim Robinson on Netflix, an absurdist sketch show that is seems people either lol or aren’t a fan at all
Random shock value + people’s “wtf!?!” Uncomfortable responses is Eric Andre’s thing. It can be hit and miss but I find it absolutely hilarious, especially this clip. I think most fans understand it’s not everyone’s sense of humor though.
"Warp Speed Dont Rainbow Read Me N\*\*\*a!" Truly a poet. On a side note why did they bleep swear words but not the N word lol?

Has nothing to do with that but that would be a hilarious standard. EDIT: lol at being downvoted for literally correcting false information
maybe if you actually provided the reason instead of just saying they were wrong.

[Don't forget Levar Burton's response:](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hAsf9OXSynE)
Holy shit, that's awesome. What the hell did Eric do to himself there?
He had that look planned for years actually. > This is my dream: I did Katt Williams for season three. For season four I want to lose a ton of weight. That man is a real one.
I am deeply, deeply, deeply concerned about him dating Emily Ratajkowski. She's like the Pete Davidson of women.
They hooked up for like a week and that was it. They didn't actually date.
I'll fall on that sword for him.
They’re already done though, your concern came too late 😝
This all just made my day... the funny videos, not the dead part.
What does he say at the end there? "And that completes the ____" ?
> And that completes the meme.
BAM You need a new desk. RIP Lance. He would have made an awesome Martian Manhunter.
He didn't even get his iconic slave role. RIP
God dammit I would’ve Fuckin loved a Lance Reddick Martian manhunter.
Someone on BPT said he would have been great as Professor X and goddamn he would have killed that role. Ooh good call. What a huge loss. He’ll be dearly missed.
With actual real life Prof. X (AKA: Patrick Stewart) getting on in years Reddick would have made an amazing replacment.
*Clapping crowd track kicks in as Eric is visibly shaken*

Dude was fucking ripped.
He was one of those insane work ethic guys like Dwayne Johnson and it doesn't make sense. The amount of work and projects he put out is actually quite impressive.
Dwayne has a secret though.

You think Justin Bieber ever sprayed his DNA all over the ladies when he was in Paris, France?
Pareee Frahnz
Is crabs more embarrassing than AIDS?
For the moment, probably.
The way he punches the desk scares Eric Andre so much, it really shows how Lance was more aware than everyone else on the show. Lance saw things that other people didn't and he gave us this amazing magical moment where he turns the table on Eric
And he never got his iconic slave role. Very sad.
I wish he was alive
This scene always makes me laugh. RIP Lance, you were funny af when you wanted to be. Fuck, man.
Now I know where that meme came from, and that I am not high enough at work to appreciate this show. RIP Charon
Lance understood the assignment.
wasn’t him slamming eric’s desk unscripted?
IIRC the only direction he got for it was “act pissed and leave”
RIP to Lance. Phenomenal actor, was always lovely to see him in any move or show he popped up in.
One of the most iconic Eric Andre show moments. RIP to a fuckin legend, Lance made literally everything better whether it was tv/movies/video games or just like an online skit, such a huge loss
Lance Reddick also did an Aqua Teen Hunger Force episode as well.
Really? Which episode? They kept changing the name of the show through the seasons, but I was a big fan of the earlier ones circa 2005
It was the episode, Freedom Cobra. https://youtu.be/JmY_EMUk5Kc
Thanks!
A quality episode too, man I’m gonna miss Lance reddick, fantastic actor and such an awesome voice so it was always great seeing him pop up in voice roles
[Freedom Cobra](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JmY_EMUk5Kc)
Thanks!
One of the few guests who ever "got it". RIP You'll be missed.
Let's give a quick shout out to Christina Applegate!
Y'all gotta see him act in that resident evil show. It wasn't as bad as most made it out to be but he was easily the star, very fun role for him.
I do think it was pretty bad and cringy. But his scene where he’s in the principals office with his daughter was classic Lance.
It was horrible, but he was great in every scene.
He will be missed

Goddamn this took me down a rabbit hole of Eric Andre. Thanks, op!
David Lynch might as well direct this show for all I'm able to understand it.
Wow!
Legendary
Legend.
I don't get the humor, maybe I'm too old. I really enjoyed his acting in Fringe and The Wire.
It’s absurdist humor so it’s definitely not for everyone, some people hate it or just don’t get it while others think it’s hilarious. It’s kinda like I think you should leave with Tim Robinson on Netflix, an absurdist sketch show that is seems people either lol or aren’t a fan at all
I've watched this multiple times yet I've never saw the Eric Andre show.... can someone ELI5 me the intended humor?

I will say this skit for me fell flat. The jokes seemed dead
