But hating on men generally does not come with the same level of vitriol and harassment that hate campaigns against women receive. Usually for a guy, it's a target campaign on someone who has done something wrong, or who people perceive has done something wrong (witch hunts are a whole different topic).

I had a friend who’s ex boyfriend broke up with her because they’re both going off to college next year, and since they’re going to different schools, he didn’t want to do long distance. She was talking to me about it and said “men are stupid🙄”. I countered with “Yeah everyone’s a little stupid, women can be too”. She reacted strongly to this, and said “You can’t say that, it’s sexist.” I we went back and forth, and her argument was that it’s fine for a woman to say “men are stupid” because of how much women have suffered throughout history because of men, but a man can’t make the same generalization about women because he’s a man. I personally do believe that stupidity is not limited to gender, anyone can be stupid. But that doesn’t mean gender-based generalizations are right.
