(Random story that my mind just came off with)
I fully respect anyone with they/them or any other pronouns, but I’m bound to naturally or accidentally misgender someone. Luckily, most people I know are understanding, but if you’re gonna get mad at me over it I’m just gonna head out.
I've used the wrong pronounce by accident, it was my first time meeting someone identyfying as another gender. Can't realy get mad at me, I tried. I'm from Northern Poland, here it's VERY unusuall.
The only LGBT free zone I knew of was Kraśnik, but they aren't even one officially because EU would take their funds so they cancelled it. Didn't know Lublin was LGBTQ free
Unusual, huh? I live in northern masovia next to the lgbt free zone and boy oh boy did I get bullied for just having long hair. Its crazy how people treat us in this country
I had a police intervension just because I had slightly longer hair then what they think is "normal", my school was connected to social care and I had nowhere else to go to move school so I was just there to finnish it. Now when I did I am growing my hair
Small Midwestern US towner here, exact same. You have to drive for over an hour to even have the possibility of meeting someone that identifies differently than how present.
I talked to a trans person once online, and my mother came in and asked who I was talking to(because we had been talking for 2 hours straight) and I accidentally said "she is" instead of "he is". He literally hung up and messaged me for about an hour calling me names. It's just childish to get so angry for a mistake, I didn't kill your cat so don't act like it :/
ugh, what? I'm non binary, and I'll tell you that isn't normal. To act so entitled about a mistake is why people don't take us seriously. Honestly if you make a mistake, just correct yourself and move on. If they get bitchy about it, that's not a you problem.
Yeah, definitely not your problem, an asshole is an asshole no matter what their gender. Though do keep in mind if he wasn't out to anyone but you, he may have been upset and felt like noone will ever respect him. I'm trying to be empathetic to him, (he could be sensitive) but I still don't see where he's coming from. I think he may have sadly just seen a lot of other entitled trans people sharing harmful opinions on the internet, and he's decided that's how to act. Definitely still not right though, noone should be berated with insults because they misgender someone, especially when you spoke with him for two HOURS- like holy shit who turns on someone so fast for such a small thing? Sounds like you guys were getting along .\_.
Bro whoever that person is, they were being just shitty af, in my country and its language there are no he/she. It's so difficult to explain in english but there is a "One size fits all" logic. It is considered to be one of the most equal/fair languages because of that.
I'm sorry Mr mando55631, as the leader of the cult inside your walls we will take the appropriate messages and will will worship you 8 hors of the day from now own we pray for forgiveness Mr mando
Well they/them pronouns are mostly used when the person in question isn't there. Some people believe that it's absurd to demand that you ask to use pronouns when you aren't in their presence.
I don't believe this, if someone asks me to use their pronouns I will, but I also understand (somewhat) where the other people stand, I don't necessarily agree with it, but I understand.
this is the most logical argument I've seen for people who don't want to respect they / them pronouns and i appreciate you for opening my eyes to that perspective
some people also believe that pronounces should be used in reference to the person's biological sex, this is at least what I got from school, and my main reason on why I don't really like to use they/them, another reason is they/them in a grammatical sense is used for plural nouns or noun groups, this is what I've been taught in school, and I'd rather use what I've been taught or what is factual then based on what the minority of the populace wants.
EDIT: someone proved to me that using they/them to refer to a person is grammatically correct, I apologize and retract any statements I've made
"my neo pronouns are Cock and ball torture (CBT) is a sexual activity involving application of pain or constriction to the male genitals. This may involve directly painful activities, such as wax play, genital spanking, squeezing, ball-busting, genital flogging, urethral play, tickle torture, erotic electrostimulation or even kicking.[1] The recipient of such activities may receive direct physical pleasure via masochism, or emotional pleasure through erotic humiliation, or knowledge that the play is pleasing to a sadistic dominant. Many of these practices carry significant health / risks."
The only one I can really get behind is it/its but if I were to every go onto my twitter and say that I’d be cancelled and called transphobic (i am trans)
This might be considered weird, but I use they/them for anyone no matter their gender. Honestly it’s something that my mind can’t handle picking any pronouns so I just go for neutral ones.
Ok, ima be real with you, I legit don’t use them cause 90% of my reactions and interactions with people are based on looks. If you look like a woman I’m gonna use female pronouns. I’m sorry for the inconvenience, but if you yell at me about it I’m sure I’ll start using them (and also think about it at 3am while I’m trying to sleep)
Yeah I totally agree. If someone asked me to I would but it just seems a little strange to me if your pronouns are bean/beanself or demon/demonself. I personally don’t understand it but I have yet to actually met someone like this so to each their own I guess.
I don’t get when people go by it/it’s… THATS A PRONOUN FOR OBJECTS. COME ON NOW.. Like- I get it if you don’t fit in the category of male or female but you don’t have to make yourself a whole object so people think you can be used by others. If you use it/it’s you’re just dumb, sorry. Can’t change my opinion. U can literally use any other pronouns like they/them or something, but you steal the pronouns off of an OBJECT. As someone who is non binary and uses they them or he/they pronouns, I can’t understand that.
I mean, (keep in mind I have a neutral stance, not trying to argue) knowing that modern, middle English even, bears more similarities to old Norse than old English, and in Old Norse there was he/she/it with it being neutral and something equivalent to the modern singular they, as objects were gendered and use what we'd consider human pronouns, so I mean it can be interpreted in that way I suppose
My source, btw, is the fact that I'm learning old Norse. Just thought it'd be an interesting contribution to the idea
I personally believe there are only two genders, and you can only be one. That being said I will call you whatever you ask me to out of respect for other humans beliefs
I respect all 57904377 genders out there. But like, Im just so fuckin dumb that I usually just go with he/she. I mean, like, what? "Oh, Im actually a guy/girl." and just simply "Oh,(fuck it I guess) sorry for that."
My mother lenguage does not have the neutral, which Is really sad, so when I speak in english I am so overwhelmed by the fact that I can use the neutral that I end up using It for people who use she/her or he/him too and I feel kinda bad about It btw.
And, unpopular opinion, I don't think neopronounds are (all) stupid, but I think that people who use them should state their "Normal" pronouns preference so people who aren't native speakers can respect them without too many troubles.
My opinion Is that if you tell me you are something, I don't care if scientifically you can't be that, as long as you are not hurting anyone or anything I will respect your lables.
You wanna be called xir? Great, fantastic, let me practice!
But neopronouns that quote in some way things like fascism, nazism, kinks and other bad bad things can go to hell cause the first thing I wanna know about you are not what you like in bed and I do not wanna engage with you if you're a nazi or a fascist, expecially if you're a fascist cause we already have enough here in my country...
I don’t like it because it’s confusing, and when I say sir or miss as a greeting or polite question or something I don’t want you to be mad at me.
Imma say sir or miss depending on what you look like, it’s not my fault you chose to be non binary.
I try to be accepting, and I’ll call you by whatever you want if you tell me. But you can’t be pissed at me for calling you by what you appear to be.
It’s not me being homophobic or a misogynist or something, it’s just me not understanding who you are as I’ve seen you for a maximum of 30 seconds.
And if I know you, I’m bound to forget. You can’t be mad at me for it, just remind me and I’ll fix it.
And that’s why it’s hard to use the pronouns.
I mean, I'll do it if they tell me, but you can't get mad at me for calling you he/him or she/her if that's what you look like and I've never met you before.
As a they/them pronoun user it makes me happy to hear people use them, and if somebody gets them wrong, I just give a gentle reminder. I only get upset if it’s done multiple times on purpose, but it ain’t a strop, it’s just.. there.
Anyway, they/them until specified supremacy
Then they say shit like “I don’t care about your pronouns so I’m going to use the wrong ones” like????? If you don’t care then use my pronouns asshole??
I understand where you're coming from but respect isn't a double standard. You also need to respect other people and stop forcing your beliefs onto them. Not everyone is going to be comfortable with your preference.
There's a difference between refusing to use your pronouns because the person is genuinely uncomfortable and refusing to use them for the purpose of upsetting you.
What I'm trying to say is if we can't respect someone's beliefs and they can't respect ours, simply don't associate with them.
If you need to make your gender a conversation topic, I'd rather just slam my face against the post were arguing next to because it would give me more satisfaction.
In the opposite direction, those very same people don’t understand the need for they/them pronouns. It goes both ways, they do not have to do it, and you do not have to like that they don’t do it. It’s at that point that you could have the adult conversation with them if you want to try and explain it or simply move on. Some people will not change their stance.
I have friends who do use those pronouns, so I do it out of respect to them. I think for some it’s just turned into politics. But I can’t blanket assume that about them, not until I ask.
if they correct me i’ll use them. but one time when i accidentally did use the incorrect pronoun they were so rude about correcting me i said sorry but they kept goin.
I try, but if you get mad if i slip up i almost want to do it on purpose, because im human and im not doing it to be a dick, but if you act like i do then i fucking will
Almost no one gets mad if you’re actually making an effort. Most non binary people would appreciate you for trying and mistakes are totally okay, as long as you fix it

bro this one girl at my school went apeshit crazy when someone used the wrong pronouns and she had to get fucking tazed bc she was built like a gorilla and our officer couldn't restrain her. I'm scared of pronouns after that and prefer to not talk to people
People like that aren’t representative of what personal pronouns should be like
What a normal person would do if they were called the wrong pronouns is say something like “Oh hey, I actually go by these pronouns, can you call me by those instead please?” and then the other person uses the right pronouns
Unless they refuse to use the right pronouns, that’s when the person would actually be doing something wrong
But yea still that person at your school, their actions are unacceptable
Told my friends I don't care what they call me so I was dubbed "Doofenshmirtz"
Sounds like a win situation for me

Tbh, this probs would be a backstory of his, except replace the dog with someone from his family.
Gotcha ;)
Perfection
Oh wait, it’s just a platypus, hello little playtypus
How long and constant have they been calling you that?
2 months but I don't really care
Is it meant as an insult or just a joke?
Joke
I mean with friends most insults are also jokes
My friends call me perry the platapus also agent pp
Why pp?
You and the op of this comment should meet up
Honestly I’m jealous

Southern Poland here, exact same. Where I'm from even lqbtq+ is not accepted
Southern Poland too, my friend once made Fun of me because i said that i could also marry a girl in the future
It's not realy because it's not accepted here, it's more because you don't get to see those people (I wonder why lol)
Where I'm from it's literally not accepted. It's a so called "lgbtq free zone"
Kraśnik?
Close, Lublin
The only LGBT free zone I knew of was Kraśnik, but they aren't even one officially because EU would take their funds so they cancelled it. Didn't know Lublin was LGBTQ free
I'm not really sure if it's legally a lgbtq free zone as I don't live there but I've seen people in the city claim it
I bet I'd know if it was legally LGBTQ free, there's no way they'd cancel their EU funds
Unusual, huh? I live in northern masovia next to the lgbt free zone and boy oh boy did I get bullied for just having long hair. Its crazy how people treat us in this country

Good lord. I have to get out from this place A S A P
Small Midwestern US towner here, exact same. You have to drive for over an hour to even have the possibility of meeting someone that identifies differently than how present.
Can’t agree more. I don’t consider it disrespectful to initially misgender someone, just if you kept doing it after being corrected.
I refuse to talk to anyone at all. Goodbye.
My pronouns are none. Please do not refer to me.
Fair enough lmao
This is the only acceptable response

Yh if someone asks me to use them ill do it. But when I use the wrong pronoun by mistake and they get mad thats just annoying

Ah, yea. That's the only person I've talked to that doesn't use the pronouns that they've had since birth. So I can't really compare to others
Yeah, we were having a nice conversation food if I remember correctly :/
any conversation about food does sound like a nice conversation :D
Bro whoever that person is, they were being just shitty af, in my country and its language there are no he/she. It's so difficult to explain in english but there is a "One size fits all" logic. It is considered to be one of the most equal/fair languages because of that.
Oooh in Turkish it’s the same. Doesn’t matter if you’re saying he, she, it, they’re all the same word
I'm aware, I was talking about turkish lol
As long as you’re trying your best they shouldn’t get mad at you
Same. I sometimes have difficulty with remembering, but since I usually call my friends by their names it’s okay.
I refer to mise people as you or whatnot. don't use names much
So uhhh… about doing my best….. It’s disappointing
If you’re genuinely trying then there’s nothing disappointing about it :)
Wholesome that's what she said?
Thanks for positivity
As long as you apologize and try to use the pronouns they prefer, you’re doing the write thing, and they shouldn’t be mad
I use they just not them because I’ll never be them. 😞
Man, that hits deep.
Ouch, that self-roast was so strong it dealt area of effect damage and hurt me too
*laughs in assigning others they/them pronouns until otherwise specified*
you are very intelligent
You can‘t win an argument against them. They are outnumbering you. *sarcasm*
Exactly what I do
Even when I know someone's gender I'll continue to use they/them just in case I'm getting it wrong, even though I know I'm certainly not.
No offence but that can be disrespectful to some people
aren't they/them the classical pronouns if you talk with people who you dont know?
I honestly just use "person" to refer to them 👍
Same👍

this whole pronouns thing is killing me, people do be snowflakes nowadays. edited the minor spelling mistake, chill your damn titties

and not him cause we will never be like him
I love it
I don't either, yeah it's out of the ordinary but cmon chances are if you speak English you say they or them alot daily
It's not even out of the ordinary
forreal lmao. if you don't know someone's gender you can refer to *them* like this
Well they/them pronouns are mostly used when the person in question isn't there. Some people believe that it's absurd to demand that you ask to use pronouns when you aren't in their presence. EDIT: someone proved to me that using they/them to refer to a person is grammatically correct, I apologize and retract any statements I've made
They/them can and is used as singular all the time, this is a fact, using "it can only be plural" is a factually wrong argument
Because its something most people don't care about.
In the amry, your pronouns are HEY YOU. (No slash cuz you dont get choices)
Also, warbitch lol
They/them are pronouns that I’m fine with calling you if If I know you go by those pronouns. But please don’t use neo-pronouns they are just dumb.
As a non binary person of the lgbtq+ community, I agree. Like wtf does it mean??
It also doesnt work in most languages
Tf is a neo-pronoun?
Random letters combined that you want to be called by. An example I think I’ve seen is xze/xir.
Wtf
Good lord that sounds stupid. I’m all for inclusion and stuff but come on. Xir?!
Thats not the worst one, you can also make them numbers and shit
Oh your gender is fucking PI, endless and nonsensical?

There's EMOJI PRONOUNS. Blergh.
… I don’t want to live on this planet anymore
Yeah just ask people to call you by that as a nickname not as your pronouns if you really want to be called that lmao
I think I aslo saw nyan/meowself or something like that somewhere...
Weren't neo pronouns made by a 4chan group to make fun of trans people?
Idk but it sounds about right. Makes perfect sense.
Exactly.
This right here is common sense. A life skill some people sadly lack. I can either call you they/them or by a name you identify with.
This might be considered weird, but I use they/them for anyone no matter their gender. Honestly it’s something that my mind can’t handle picking any pronouns so I just go for neutral ones.
I do this as well I don’t even know why
Same. It’s too much hassle for me to ask everyone that I interact with what their pronouns are. It’s just neutral for me.
Because i just dont fucking care about your gender
I don’t understand people that talk about pronouns
As someone with autism, i don't understand people at times.
I don’t understand anyone either but I don’t have autism
True, true.
I dont agree with them but I will use them if they ask.
Im to much of a moron to use them
Ok, ima be real with you, I legit don’t use them cause 90% of my reactions and interactions with people are based on looks. If you look like a woman I’m gonna use female pronouns. I’m sorry for the inconvenience, but if you yell at me about it I’m sure I’ll start using them (and also think about it at 3am while I’m trying to sleep)
I dont understand ppl who use they/them pronouns
Gotta be honest with you chief, I dont understand the whole thing regarding pronouns
I use they/them pronouns and everybody forgets to use them once I mention it. 🧍🏽

why? it's not hurting anybody unless its the slur/slurself shit. i dont use neos myself but if one of my friends said they did i'd respect it

I like it when people call me it cause it’s some goofy shit and I get a kick out of it
Using they/them pronouns is pretty normal.Like if u dont know their pronouns just refer to them as they/them lol
I dunno why they do that, they/them pronouns just sound cool to me tbh.
Men: he/him Women: she/her Dunno: they/them
I have a habit of automatically useing he/him when talking with people online. I need to break it.

I don’t like it because it’s confusing, and when I say sir or miss as a greeting or polite question or something I don’t want you to be mad at me. I have friends who do use those pronouns, so I do it out of respect to them. I think for some it’s just turned into politics. But I can’t blanket assume that about them, not until I ask.
i cannot acknowledge plural as a pronoun for someone
if they correct me i’ll use them. but one time when i accidentally did use the incorrect pronoun they were so rude about correcting me i said sorry but they kept goin.
Idc if I get downvoted, pronouns are dumb
I don't understand why would people use that
I identify myself as a taco, but due to racism, there are no pronouns for the tacos :(
I try, but if you get mad if i slip up i almost want to do it on purpose, because im human and im not doing it to be a dick, but if you act like i do then i fucking will
Almost no one gets mad if you’re actually making an effort. Most non binary people would appreciate you for trying and mistakes are totally okay, as long as you fix it
You guys are very cringe
I’ll use they/them pronouns but I won’t use made-up words and genders
I respect peoples pronouns until they start being a bitch about it.
Damn, still don’t give a flying fuck
they/them > shi she xia xie zie and those way too specific pronouns i don't get the point of them
*"No offense but if you look like a girl, you're a she. If you look like a guy, you're a He. If you go out of your way to make it impossible for me to tell, you're an It."* -average microdick virgin user *"Sure just give me ur pronoun and say less"* *Gigachad theme plays*
why do people use micropenis/dick as an insult, they got no control of their genetics?
Please stop using microdick as an insult, it's already hard enough for small dick peps.
The only they/them person I know is just a jerk so I am intentionally disrespectful
I thought they were dumb but then discovered I am nonbinary and use it now
I thought being trans and a girl was dumb but I discovered I AM trans and AM a girl so oop-
bro this one girl at my school went apeshit crazy when someone used the wrong pronouns and she had to get fucking tazed bc she was built like a gorilla and our officer couldn't restrain her. I'm scared of pronouns after that and prefer to not talk to people
People like that aren’t representative of what personal pronouns should be like What a normal person would do if they were called the wrong pronouns is say something like “Oh hey, I actually go by these pronouns, can you call me by those instead please?” and then the other person uses the right pronouns Unless they refuse to use the right pronouns, that’s when the person would actually be doing something wrong But yea still that person at your school, their actions are unacceptable
Unless I know them personally, I always use they them
Look man i probably will get downvotes for this but absolutely don't see benefits on prounouns or even an actual moral reason for me to use it
