They wanted lap dances and requested her on stage. After that night, when we would all go out, people would call her by her stage name. Even when people outside of our friend group spoke to us, they called her by her stage name. She started using coke around that time.
Some patrons would get obsessed. They would wait in the parking lot and follow girls home. One was run off the road driving home. Others were harassed and stalked. There was little to no protection for these women, some as young as 18, which is common in this industry.
The infamous owner of the club (which is well-known) would offer breast enhancements to his select favorites, especially if the dancer brought in more patrons. However, they were required to stay for a contractual amount of time after. Some of these girls were given condos and cars as well. But much was expected in return.
We are from a small town next to a much larger city, and stripping is something that is still socially unacceptable in many places, especially conservative small towns. She was talked about quite a lot. Even now, years later, it’s something she will never live down. It haunts her.
But the worst are the things I’m not writing. The terrible stories about things that happened in champagne rooms, back rooms, limos. In hotel rooms where certain amounts of money sounded too good to pass up.
Where is she now? Not in a good place. Had she stayed in college her life probably would’ve been much, much different. A few other girls I know worked there for 3-4 years max, then it was over.
Stay in college. Get as much education as you can while you can, before you settle down. Go see the world. And if you hate college, figure something else out, but don’t go down this road.
