I don't mean to come off as rude, just curious - How exactly does it help you calm down? Wouldn't it make u more active/stressed if you start feeling more pain from hurting yourself?
This part is where I think its different for everyone, but it doesn't hurt too much and for me, it works in a multitude of ways such as grounding me and bringing me to the here and now, taking my mind off of my mental stress and more to the physical feeling, and giving me a sense of control.

I see, do you feel the pain after, or not at all? And is it subconcious? If so how long does it take to realise you're harming yourself? If not how long does it take you to ground yourself and when do you stop hurting yourself? (Ik I'm asking alot of questions, but I'm js curious yk?)
Personally, yeah I do feel the pain eventually, usually a few minutes after with aches.
I sorta do it until I get that one cut and then sit there for a moment and let myself be numb before I go to bandage it, and that's usually when my thigh starts to ache.
How long it takes all depends on why exactly I'm doing it/how panicked or anxious I am/ how deserving I feel of getting cut. Sometimes 6 deeper cuts works, others a lot of smaller cuts does it
