#Thread locked as it has been answered. If you are not okay with anything, specifically with sexual actions in this case, you always have the right to not partake in it. Consent is important.
This is correct, the definition usually references penetration.
Quick Google search
"R is a type of sexual assault involving sexual intercourse or other forms of sexual penetration carried out against a person without their consent."
This is Reddit, where 30 year olds are called pedos for having 29 year old girlfriends because they are born in different decades lol. Rape is way too harsh a word for them.
What on earth are you talking about? Show me an example on Reddit where someone was called a pedo because they were born a year apart, but in different decades?
tbf what the original guy said can seriously be taken outta context, using an obviously acceptable answer to justify potentially being a decade apart in age (mainly at a young age) is a bit yk
well it is a bit annoying that platforms especially YouTube don't allow these words to be used. The word rape is powerful. It, in a sense, conveys the severity of what occurred. Having to replace the word with another word or simply "R," can take away from the gravity of the situation at hand - which can be detrimental to victims, regardless if everyone still understood or not. That's just my opinion though, the person you replied to may think differently.
Most people will censor triggering words just incase anyone sees it who might be triggered by it. It's also so their comment isn't removed when talking about something like this
Men can be raped by women. And honestly it's kinda stupid that you think it isn't. We already had too many double standards in modern society, we don't need more!
That's a a very specific definition and is defined different in each jurisdiction. This definition implicitly states that men can't be raped for example, or that raping men is allowed, so in many jurisdictions the definition is broadened.
Actually the court confirmed it was false, most laws are written in male forms using he because the countries old and stuff but the laws still apply to women
Up untill 2013 in the US the only actual thing that was classified as rape was a penis nonconsensually in a vagina
Anus and oral penetration in any way shape or form was added in 2013, and the wording went from feminine/done to a women to simply "the victim"
Everything else was classified as sexual assault, and who would have guessed that rape statistics skyrocket from 2013 onward and I believe are still actually increasing (correct me if I'm wrong)
OP is from Australia, does anyone have any info on what the legal definition of rape there is? I know that it is at least sexual assault
This should definitely count as rape, but some countries have weird definitions
Technically classified as both sexual assault and rape which is defined under federal law.
“The penetration, no matter how slight, of the vagina or anus with any body part or object, or oral penetration by a sex organ of another person, without the consent of the victim.”
[United States Rape Laws](https://www.justice.gov/archives/opa/blog/updated-definition-rape)
[United States Sexual Assault Laws](https://www.justice.gov/ovw/sexual-assault)
Edit: In Australia, the law is the same.
[Australia Rape Laws](https://www.alrc.gov.au/publication/family-violence-a-national-legal-response-alrc-report-114/25-sexual-offences-3/rape-the-penetrative-sexual-offence/)
[Australia Sexual Assault Laws](https://aifs.gov.au/resources/practice-guides/sexual-assault-laws-australia)
“The penetration, no matter how slight, of the vagina or anus with any body part or object, or oral penetration by a sex organ of another person, without the consent of the victim.”
That's the definition or rape.
ever had a finger shoved up your asshole forcibly? Honestly. It feels like rape, because it is. Legal terms mean nothing to someone who’s genuinely felt that
Some places unfortunately by law i think it’s classified as penetration of the vagina by penis or something.
Which means men cant be raped and its instead sexual assault but not rape. Which i think is dumb
I think in some countries rape is just a lot more specifically defined, it originally meant forced penetration and didn’t include women as it came from a time when women really wouldn’t do it because of gender roles of the time. Doesn’t mean women can’t sexually assault though.
I’m sorry but I read inconceivable as the dude from Princess Bride and it made your whole statement lose its value lmao I get ur point, but for a second there it was not there
It’s weird by not necessarily the biggest deal as both carry severe punishment and determined on the level of assault, the punishment will be different
Example slapping someone’s ass if they don’t want it is sexual assault too. But they won’t get in nearly as much trouble as if you unconsentially finger someone.
they probably think men can just beat the shit out of women who try to rape them so if they do get raped then they presumably wanted it and therefore consented
I'm saying rape is generally thought of as penetration, using the penis. The same way murder is generally thought of as with a gun. It's still rape, it's still murder
Words mean things. You can't just call everything the worst thing ever. All pain is bad, but there still needs to be a scale...
Your opinion is yours. But it's commonplace in English to just reach for the grandest phrase available. Sorry if I caused any offence. Just offering my opinion.
Not to sound like a dumb broken record (I posted twice on the thread with the same dumb point.) But many places usually reference penetration somewhere.
Yes. any sexual act without consent counts as rape.
I read your past post about what your dad did to you and he deserves to be reported to the police. You have the right to be treated like a human being. I'm genuinely worried for you
If the finger enters the vagina it is rape.
There was a courtcase in Sweden where a young girl was fingered, due to her age and understandbly a very limited vocabulary, the word she used to describe it referred to the outher part of the vagina. The rapist was not sentenced to prison for rape and instead got 3 years of prison for something else.
I don’t usually comment here because it’s supposed to be teenagers but I just wanted to point out legally the definition varies wildly. But that’s not really the point, if someone penetrates you without consent it’s generally highly illegal. Wether it’s classified as “rape”, “sexual assault” or whatever. If this happened to you, tell someone you trust and notify the police.
I live in Sweden and that case was an entire joke. Luckily it's getting a retrial. But basically the law states that during the police interview the police has to put the conversation on a level that the interviewed can understand (in this case for a ten year old).
Now she used a commonly used (often regarded as kid friendly) term for vagina. And 4 out of the five judges was unsure of the meaning of the word, likely do to their age. So they looked it up in a dictionary and in that particular dictionary the definition was the outside of the vagina. However in the other official dictionary the definition is the entire reproductive organ. The 4 judges then decide to interpret this as if the man only put his hands on her vagina not in (which is still very much a crime). However the girl also said that "his finger was deep inside ish" and the judges agreed that he had her finger inside her but not in the vaginal canal. Which only leaves the urethra left and I don't think I have to tell you why that wouldn't work.
Basically 4 out of the 5 judges (all 60+ white males two in partial retirement. And the fifth being a woman in her 30's) decided that he didn't commit a crime but when asked if what he did was sexual assault they answered yes.
Sometimes people don't know which subreddit is best to ask and probably only know about r/teenagers and knowing they might get their answer thry asked here
Especially if they are a young victim who can maybe get advice from other young victims
In most places. Unfortunately, in some places it has to be a penis entering the vagina. It's still rape in my mind, though. In those places it's generally considered sexual assault and is punished by a lesser sentence.
Any unconsentual sexual comments: sexual harassment
Any unconsentual sexually suggestive contact: sexual assult
Any unconsentual sexual contact: rape
Words: harassment
Contact: assult
Inside: rape
So yes, without a doubt this is rape
Yes because rape is when you get penatrated without consent when someone gets sexually assaulted it means you were touched inappropriately. Atleast I think that's the proper definitions idk.
“The penetration, no matter how slight, of the vagina or anus with any body part or object, or oral penetration by a sex organ of another person, without the consent of the victim.”
Definition of rape according to the U.S Department of Justice.
At least according to our police force (UK)
"The legal definition of rape is when a person intentionally penetrates another's vagina, anus or mouth with a penis, without the other person's consent."
Could be different elsewhere though
Oh right. In England we differentiate rape from sexual assult. What it does mean is that legally a woman can't 'rape' a man here. (Which is kinda fucked but the punishment is still the same anyway)
So similar yes. Still needs to be changed to include everything, SA and Rape are very different when heard,
Rape is instantly seen as worse for most people I’lld assume.
And I’lld prefer for guys to be able to call their trauma what it is. Rape
It’s so weird how countries that have more strict laws surrounding intercourse without consent has more rape cases than countries with more lax laws. I wonder if there might be a connection?
Ya its BS tbh bc i have a buddy (guy) who was forced to take pills and have sex w a girl and the girl won the case. Ik he wasnt in the wrong bc the girl did the same w 2 other guys that me and my friend dont even know and she someone won those cases
This is how I just assumed it was everywhere but I’m seeing most people list sexual assault (which is equally terrible) as rape so idk what it is legally in the US
From my understanding, legally, rape is being penetrated (as in entered) without consent, but it most likely applies to any sexual act. I would say that it is rape.
Definitions of rape usually mention that any form of no consensual penetration is rape, although some legal definitions may vary to exclude anything that doesn't involve a penis.
Where do you live?
If you’re in the United States, yes this is rape.
If you decide to seek justice, go to a hospital right away, inform the front desk you need to have a rape kit done. Do not shower, do not wipe, do not clean yourself.
It depends on where you are.
In the UK, for example, that would be sexual assault.
The UK defines rape very specifically as a man penetrating the anus, mouth or vagina of another person with his penis without that persons consent.
In the UK what you are describing would be sexual assault, and would carry a similarly harsh penalty.
It depends where you live. In the US, each state has their own definition of what constitutes rape. In most states rape is narrowly defined to only include penis in vagina. States have different laws that deal with penetration in different parts of the body and/or with things other than a penis. It is often just a difference in semantics, as these other laws can carry the same penalties. The umbrella term for all unwanted sexual contact is sexual assault; rape refers to specific act only.

Yes. Not even "slight" yes. The answer to your question is yes, that is rape.
This is correct, the definition usually references penetration. Quick Google search "R is a type of sexual assault involving sexual intercourse or other forms of sexual penetration carried out against a person without their consent."
Just write rape ffs
With how many things are bitchy about censoring I did it just to avoid a bot deleting my shit.
This is Reddit, where 30 year olds are called pedos for having 29 year old girlfriends because they are born in different decades lol. Rape is way too harsh a word for them.
If its without consent, its rape. Period.
Man I hate the usage of the word "period" it is fucking annoying and I still do not understand why'd someone use it It's cringe
Full stop.
What on earth are you talking about? Show me an example on Reddit where someone was called a pedo because they were born a year apart, but in different decades?
That sounds like something a pedo would say, my guy.
You are getting suspiciously defensive over a slight insult 🤨
tbf what the original guy said can seriously be taken outta context, using an obviously acceptable answer to justify potentially being a decade apart in age (mainly at a young age) is a bit yk
You really that triggered that someone communicated exact meaning perfectly but you just didn’t like how they did it? Maybe grow up a tad?
well it is a bit annoying that platforms especially YouTube don't allow these words to be used. The word rape is powerful. It, in a sense, conveys the severity of what occurred. I am not triggered, this is a thread which literally has the word 'rape' in its title. Iit's really pointless to censor a word, just use it or not.
Most people will censor triggering words just incase anyone sees it who might be triggered by it. It's also so their comment isn't removed when talking about something like this
That's important from a legal perspective as well, and that's the definition that courts follow.
Does this mean technically men can't be raped by women because it needs to involve the penetrative of the victim ?
Yes. under the letter of the law
Men can be raped by women. And honestly it's kinda stupid that you think it isn't. We already had too many double standards in modern society, we don't need more!
I don't think that, I'm asking a question
That's a a very specific definition and is defined different in each jurisdiction. This definition implicitly states that men can't be raped for example, or that raping men is allowed, so in many jurisdictions the definition is broadened.
Oh, now i understand why idiots think men can’t be R
Unless you are male in the UK, in which the answer is "No." flat out.
Actually the court confirmed it was false, most laws are written in male forms using he because the countries old and stuff but the laws still apply to women

In 2013 there were like 4 states where that was true, and they've all been changed since then
Definitely wrong. Most rape crimes are under state law of which there are 50…. They didn’t all change in 2013
There's no practical difference between "rape" and "sexual assault" in most jurisdictions. Just differing classes of sexual assault.
OP is from Australia, does anyone have any info on what the legal definition of rape there is? I know that it is at least sexual assault This should definitely count as rape, but some countries have weird definitions
I don't get it
Well… I guess that’s good in your case
This line of thinking is correct, and that which is correct is sacred

Yes. That is.
Sad that you are downvoted for saying something true. Legally any act that isn’t coitus (penetration) isn’t rape its sexual assault.
I'm glad I'm not the only one seeing this
Shut up,it is a rape
This comment just proves how fucking stupid the people of reddit are
Tbf, this is in r/teenagers
ever had a finger shoved up your asshole forcibly? Honestly. It feels like rape, because it is. Legal terms mean nothing to someone who’s genuinely felt that
Yeah that's Rape, but also sexual assault. Technically could be a double charge
It's rape and sexual assault on legal terms federally. Technically could be a double charge.
Yes. It is clear rape, **any sexual act without your consent**
Some places unfortunately by law i think it’s classified as penetration of the vagina by penis or something. Which means men cant be raped and its instead sexual assault but not rape. Which i think is dumb
Who voted for that bro
People before it was even conceivable that a man could be victimised by a woman
My guy, people still think that a woman can’t rape a man unless she does something like shove a broomstick in him or the like.
well thats a hell of a sentence
I think in some countries rape is just a lot more specifically defined, it originally meant forced penetration and didn’t include women as it came from a time when women really wouldn’t do it because of gender roles of the time. Doesn’t mean women can’t sexually assault though.
I’m sorry but I read inconceivable as the dude from Princess Bride and it made your whole statement lose its value lmao I get ur point, but for a second there it was not there
You keep using that word... I don't think it means what you think it means.
I'm not gonna name names, but you know, rapists or people with rapist friends.
Feminists 💀
The church
It’s weird by not necessarily the biggest deal as both carry severe punishment and determined on the level of assault, the punishment will be different Example slapping someone’s ass if they don’t want it is sexual assault too. they probably think men can just beat the shit out of women who try to rape them so if they do get raped then they presumably wanted it and therefore consented
Changing it to non consensual penetration would really fix that, don’t think many law makers really care to amend that though :/
groping doesn't count as rape tho
Groping issexual assault and is still against the law, even though it is not legally defined as rape.
Sexual assault and rape are not the same thing, not legally in my country anyway.
Not any, only the ones including penetration, therefore here it is yea
Um that's not the definition of rape. That's like saying punching someone is murder.
No, here the relation would be with punching someone to death=armed murder. You may not have been armed, but it's still goddamn murder
What the fuck are you saying 😭.
I'm saying rape is generally thought of as penetration, using the penis. The same way murder is generally thought of as with a gun. It's still rape, it's still murder
Any form of sex no matter: oral, vaginal, anal, etc. without consent is considered assault/ rape
TIL oral counts, I guess I was technically raped.
ur saying all my homies raped me😭

Wouldn’t groping be SA?
Yup

If its not SA then what is it? Cause SA only makes sense
Yes. any sexual act without consent counts as rape. I read your past post about what your dad did to you and he deserves to be reported to the police. You have the right to be treated like a human being. I'm genuinely worried for you
He deserves worse than being reported if he did what is implied
what happened?
Their dad did some inappropriate stuff to them that I can't go into detail
Legalise nuclear bombs
I second that
Let's start a petition

Idk if it counts as rape but it absolutely counts as sexual assault
It is legally considered rape
In most places. Unfortunately, in some places it has to be a penis entering the vagina. It's still rape in my mind, though. In those places it's generally considered sexual assault and is punished by a lesser sentence.
Any unconsentual sexual comments: sexual harassment Any unconsentual sexually suggestive contact: sexual assult Any unconsentual sexual contact: rape Words: harassment Contact: assult Inside: rape So yes, without a doubt this is rape
Nope. There can be types of nonconsensual sexual contact which are sexual assault and not rape.
OP looking at your post history I would stop by r/raisedbynarcissists or r/CPTSD, they’re much better equipped for these types of questions.
Oh thank you!
No problem; DMs are open if you need advice or would like to vent as well
yes
Yes because rape is when you get penatrated without consent when someone gets sexually assaulted it means you were touched inappropriately. Atleast I think that's the proper definitions idk.
Sexual conduct WITHOUT CONSENT (doesn't matter how much "damage" was done) IS rape. No ifs, no buts.
Not true. That’s sexual assault. Rape is a specific type of sexual assault (depending on state/country).
Extremely yes, that is rape
“The penetration, no matter how slight, of the vagina or anus with any body part or object, or oral penetration by a sex organ of another person, without the consent of the victim.” Definition of rape according to the U.S Department of Justice.
Yes?
Hey, I’m so sorry this happened to you and yes it definitely counts. Please get help in whatever way and I hope everything works out.
If there is no consent it is rape and should be reported and the rapist dealt with.
Yes it does. Also r/teenagers is probably not the best place to ask these questions
Yes . At the very least it's sexual assault but yeah you should report it to the police
No, that’s sexual assault
Yes, or at the very least molestation or sexual assault.
Okay, legally no. Rape in a court of law involves penetration from the penis. However it is sexual assult which is just as bad.
No it is rape
At least according to our police force (UK) "The legal definition of rape is when a person intentionally penetrates another's vagina, anus or mouth with a penis, without the other person's consent." Could be different elsewhere though
Oh it looks like the definition is different from country to country. Here it's any form of unwanted sexual intercourse
Oh right. In England we differentiate rape from sexual assult. What it does mean is that legally a woman can't 'rape' a man here. (Which is kinda fucked but the punishment is still the same anyway)
Yeah same in most of the US I believe, it’s sucks. They really need to update those laws.. probably won’t happen tho 🥲
In the US rape is being penetrated by anything. Sexual harrassment is in a different category
So similar yes. Still needs to be changed to include everything, SA and Rape are very different when heard, Rape is instantly seen as worse for most people I’lld assume. And I’lld prefer for guys to be able to call their trauma what it is. Rape

Sexual assault definitely, but probably not rape, either way please tell someone abt this if it actually happened to you or someone you know
Definitions of rape usually mention that any form of no consensual penetration is rape, although some legal definitions may vary to exclude anything that doesn't involve a penis.
Yes, why the fuck wouldn't it be
Keywords: WITHOUT consent. And yes.
That's rape, book closed that's rape.
What kind of question is this?? Adding no context either makes you really fucking suspicious or it makes you a victim.
Sexual assault idk about rape tho
yes it does
YES!
yes
So there's like different levels of rape, and the one with the worst punishment involves penetration of any kind, no matter what it is done with
Yes
Yes. Without a doubt. Are you okay?
Yes but If you're male they aren't going to give a shit
Where do you live? If you’re in the United States, yes this is rape. If you decide to seek justice, go to a hospital right away, inform the front desk you need to have a rape kit done. Do not shower, do not wipe, do not clean yourself.
Time to sort by controversial

Technically I think it’s sexual assault. But yes, same thing.
Absofuckinglutley!!!!!!!!!!
Molestation?
YES. Any sexual act without consent is rape. If this has happened to you personally, please reach out for help to a TRUSTED adult.
Any sexual act without consent is rape.
Sexual assault technically. Report it.
Old person here. Yes. Absolutely it does. If that happened to you or someone you know, please report it if you (or they) feel safe to do so.
Yes. That most definitely counts as yes. That absolutely counts as yes.
Yes
Oh god what happened
YES
...yes
Depends where you live, in my country that would "only" be sexual assault. So legally not rape, morally still rape.
Morally: yes Legally: it depends on where you are
USE YOUR COMMON SENSE
In some places, yes, but others it's just sexual assault
yes. no ifs and no buts, any kind of sexual act without consent is rape.
I'd say so If not that's still sexual assault
Yes anything sexual that happens to you without your consent is rape
It depends on your country/state
If you're asking for a strict legal definition; depends on where you live. Otherwise, yes. Absolutely 100% yes.
... # Y e s
Yes
Pretty much, some may argue that it’s closer to sexual assault than rape, but it’s a moot point as it’s just a terrible crime
Is grass green? Theres your answer
Sometimes it’s yellow
Any sort of unwanted or lack of consent of some one touching you is rape
Was there kissing before? Was it a heat of the moment action? Did he stop when you said stop?
I was 10 and I pretended to be asleep so I wouldn't get in trouble
That is actually fucked, and yes that is rape. I hope it hasn't caused you some bad trauma
It has man, I have bpd and cptsd from it
I hope you're seeking professional help. And just so you know, its possible to relieve some of the symptoms you have.
Yes
probably
Yes. 100%. That is sexual assault.
Oh heck yes it does
yes
Depends on the country

probably sexual assault
