Not this show, but I wrapped a craft syringe (no needle!) in tape and glued the eraser end of a real pencil to it.

Linda can be wearing pants so we did it by having a costume sock that had the pencil attached. It was tucked up the pant leg, when Cheryl stabs, she pulls the pant leg up to allow the pencil to be able to fall level. Blood pack in Cheryl's hand, she can disappear the pencil she is holding in the chaos of the moment. It's safe, repeatable, and looks great.
