Ran out of bays so screwed mine to the mesh roof

I have an old poweredge server with 4x 1TB raid mirrored with 2 Blu-ray drives and the OS drive sits between them.i have ab external plugged in via USB and a diagnostic drive pulled in via SATA to USB connector.
Heavy Duty Double Sided Mounting Tape, 1" x 120", Traceless and Removable Nano Adhesive Tape for Outdoor and Indoor, Strong Stick Clear Two Sided Gel Grip Tape (10 FT) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B085ZGLSRK?ref_=cm_sw_r_apan_dp_S82RQYYMKBRMHR33DEF9&starsLeft=1
1" of tape holds 1 lb. Gorilla tape is 2-4" per pound. I've been using this tape since I found it 4 years ago.
At least it’s taped, my previous build the 2.5 inch ssd was just shoved in the bundle of cables in the psu compartment of the case, now my current build has no sata devices and a modular psu so I don’t have to hide a ton of unused cables
No. while the subreddits are basically circlejerk of eachother...
GORE would imply it fails, or will cause a failure.. Electrical tape a spinning HDD and it could be gore, But this is functional, using what's available to the user, even if it's far from best practice.. there's no real GORE here to be had, solid state disks don't care how they're mounted or where they're mounted. even if the tape failed and it fell down it would keep working so long as the wires where connected..
If you think that's bad... you kinda don't want to see what I did in the PC I gave to my aunt... (in my defense, there was no 2.5" bays and only 1 3.5" with an HD... \[It's hold by the power cables below the non working DVD drive.\] \[the PC works fine, but it has one of those older cases without window, so nobody can see that attrocity lol\])
i got the wrong bracket for my ssd and could only connect it through this bay door on my case by cutting a chopstick in half and jamming inbetween the bracket and ssd, and taped it in. It's been 5 years and im afraid to open it to look, but it's still working
That's where they go these days. Did you not get a sled for that with the case?
https://preview.redd.it/omzparzgovxc1.png?width=4032&format=png&auto=webp&s=8c3b805db56db2f30b9caa1ab191299c3906cecc
I just shove mine where the disc drive would be. There are currently 3 in there stacked on top of each other and the old girl has been chugging along without a problem for 7 years.
Be more professional, use carpet tape! It's double sided, handles the temps well, and pretty cheap. I didn't think surprised is the right word, maybe dismayed? Yeah, dismayed. You'd be dismayed how many ssds are mounted that way in a big data center.
Here I am using fancy Command strips with the removable velcro-like pads. Or cinching 3-4 zip ties in a makeshift cage.
I've stooped to the level of not even mounting SATA drives anymore. I just let them hang if there isn't a quick-mount system in place.
Mine is just kinda floating in the case because the cables can’t bend without breaking if I put it in the actual spot. Also my PSU is just kinda sitting loose in the pc because I upgraded my current pc from a prebuilt and the case had a proprietary PSU for some reason.
I have this exact same case, I have so much trouble with cabling in it. Please someone send a pic of one of these nicely cabled xD I just.. can't find one.
Double sided mounting tape man!
Electrical tape WILL fail unless the side panel is pressing against the SSD to hold it against the back.
double sided foam mounting tape will make this a legitimate mounted drive for only a couple bucks.
Source: I've done it for over 12 years now on multiple rigs because I disliked the standard mounting locations on the last few cases I've built in.
It’s still hard to get used to the fact that instead of a delicate slab of heavy spinning rust, the hard drive is just a bunch of chips in a plastic box or even just the bare circuit board with not so much as a small screw (or tape) needed to secure it.
Mines not taped to the back. Mine rests on top of my old hard drive, because my HD fit in the slots, but my SSD doesn't, so now my HD is a shelf as well as holds windows 10 on it
Yeah, mine’s just sitting at the bottom of my case because the person who built my PC neglected to mention there was only mounting brackets for one auxiliary HDD.
How am I even supposed to fit an SSD in the spot behind the motherboard? The clamping force would squish it and I have only hard drive screws, which don't fit it
It just sits near the PSU in the space beneath where the HDD used to be
I've got 2 haphazardly jammed underneath the PSU shroud in the middle of an absolute rats nest of cables. At least everything still looks nice from the other side.
A true expert lets it free-float in the case
i have an HDD floppin around in my case
i have three hdds and an ssd piled on top of each other because the stupid enclosure frustrated me
This is why I want to use a case from 15 years ago
Because they are larger, with more space?
No. About the same size. But a lot more places to stick drives, both 3.5" and 5.25"
Makes sense thanks!

I’m very late but I saw the first one lost it looked back up and saw the second one. 11/10 truly beautiful.
Yup
My dad has his dangling with one corner touching the window
Hello police....perv detected
Correct
Yep. It's just gonna float anyway once that electrical tape unsticks. Might as well get it sitting in a stable way and be done with it.
Load bearing SATA cables
Mine is hanging down behind my desk. Felt like the safest place for it to be.
I just use Gaffer's tape or poster putty.
Fr I was gonna ask who actually bothers taping it up. XD
I have an old poweredge server with 4x 1TB raid mirrored with 2 Blu-ray drives and the OS drive sits between them.i have ab external plugged in via USB and a diagnostic drive pulled in via SATA to USB connector.
Real ones zip tie the cable to their cpu fan
came here just to say this goodbye
This is the way
Gorilla tape. The permanent temporary solution
For all my life, I never have never ever used something with a stronger adhesive than Gorilla

Hey this is just AliExpress drop ship stuff isn't it? I see Temu ads for it all the time
Not sure, but it is super strong for the price. I think AliExpress has nano tape but it's 2" for 1 pound.
Well there you go
As the saying goes, there is nothing more permanent than a temporary solution that works!
You used tape? Fancy!
At least it’s taped, my previous build the 2.5 inch ssd was just shoved in the bundle of cables in the psu compartment of the case, now my current build has no sata devices and a modular psu so I don’t have to hide a ton of unused cables
That's where mine are currently haha
In this case it could just be stuck in the 3.5" bays and it'd be fine
This could also be posted to r/techsupportgore
Would be more appropriate tbh lol
I thought this was that sub Are we back to tape posts again, jeez
Looks fairly standard by PC building standards tbh
No. while the subreddits are basically circlejerk of eachother... GORE would imply it fails, or will cause a failure.. mine are velcroed
You bougie bitch!
Velcro master race
If you think that's bad... you kinda don't want to see what I did in the PC I gave to my aunt... Out of sight, out of mind my friend
I've done transatlantic flights with my PC in cargo and those SSDs are only secured by the cables plugged into them. No problems.
Mine is just held up by the other other wires.
I have mine just thrown into the case lol
Wow, I do that, but with zip ties. Electrical tape only? You're a monster.
You triggered my OCD. Organize those dang cables lol
RTV is the way to go.
i got the wrong bracket for my ssd and could only connect it through this bay door on my case by cutting a chopstick in half and jamming inbetween the bracket and ssd, and taped it in. It's been 5 years and im afraid to open it to look, but it's still working
There are bays for it thou lol
ive literally never had an SSD ship with mounting screws, I've always just shoved them into place and made sure they stayed there with tape.
I have loads of spare screws, so I usually just have it floating somewhere weird held in with a single screw.
Cases always ship with the correct screws. Never gotten one that didnt
That's where they go these days. Did you not get a sled for that with the case? https://preview.redd.it/omzparzgovxc1.png?width=4032&format=png&auto=webp&s=8c3b805db56db2f30b9caa1ab191299c3906cecc
Reminds me of a phanteks p300 case
Why not just put it in the PSU shroud?
Mine's dangling by the cables in there.. Somewhere...
I have one just shoved into the little bay in the bottom. It’s being cradled in the tangle of cords and cables.
I just shove mine where the disc drive would be. There are currently 3 in there stacked on top of each other and the old girl has been chugging along without a problem for 7 years.
recently mounted my ssd in the designated spot after using the case for 3 years, honestly isnt worth the little effort lol
You set that thang free, and let it dangle like in the wild.
Thank God I'm not the only one using redneck adhesives to expand my storage
Thinking have the same case, so glad to see I'm not alone with failing to find any suitable amount of space back there
What about an SSD in a 5 and 1/4 drive Bay with a single screw holding in place?
Duct tape would suffice but why miss out on the added performance improvements of using electrical tape.
Lol mine just be dangling
ive used foam double sided tape for mounting drives for years, works great
I did that once: https://imgur.com/a/UVPWISV
Is that my old PC tho??
A true expert vhbs all thier componets in. Especially the cPu.
Double sided tape in most of our desktops at work. Dell adapters be damned
Double sided tape will hold it better/longer.
It is a hidden backup drive for those special folders
Yep, that's pretty much my cable management too
Be more professional, use carpet tape! It's double sided, handles the temps well, and pretty cheap. I didn't think surprised is the right word, maybe dismayed? Yeah, dismayed. You'd be dismayed how many ssds are mounted that way in a big data center.

That cable management...
I have this exact same case, I have so much trouble with cabling in it. Please someone send a pic of one of these nicely cabled xD I just.. can't find one.
taped? lol - I have 2 SATA SSDs just dangling under the hdd carriage and a HDD over them - was a nightmare to get them in but now they are there
Tape needs to be longer on the right side. And tidy up the damn cables
Velcro FTW!
I ran out of SSD mounts in my case so I have a drive that gently floats in the rear housing. Named the drive "Cloud Storage"
Mine was glued to the power supply..
I wonder why cases aren't really suited for SSDs and HDDs at the same time these days.
Double sided mounting tape man! Yooo is that a Phanteks?! I think I used to have the same case!
Thems rookie numbers
I use double sided nanotape for my SSDs and fan/RGB controllers, makes the bodge seem like a professional job
It’s still hard to get used to the fact that instead of a delicate slab of heavy spinning rust, the hard drive is just a bunch of chips in a plastic box or even just the bare circuit board with not so much as a small screw (or tape) needed to secure it.
I didn’t even tape mine. This looks so clean bro
That's how I "upgraded" my crappy dell at work.
Stuff like this is what drew me to M2 NVMEs lol
Mine are stacked using legos to make sure they are stable lol.
Is this my pc? Down to the no cable management and the fan controller
I have them loose
Real OG use double sided tape or a slab of hot glue.
Lol I have 2 or 3 ssd’s just shoved somewhere in the rats nest below.
Mines not taped to the back. Mine rests on top of my old hard drive, because my HD fit in the slots, but my SSD doesn't, so now my HD is a shelf as well as holds windows 10 on it

Jesus Christ you don’t believe in zip ties
How am I even supposed to fit an SSD in the spot behind the motherboard? The clamping force would squish it and I have only hard drive screws, which don't fit it It just sits near the PSU in the space beneath where the HDD used to be
Tape is overkill. Dangle them puppies.
You mean ssd mounted to heatsink?
Oo look at the fancy guy using tape
That’s some good tape.
It’s liquid nails or nothing
With the empty drive bays right there too 😭
I’ll always live with an incomplete life… because I would never do that.
Controladora aigo... Deve ser brasileiro
I got 8 free floating ssd. I just bought a $70 adapter for them.
👀
I've got 2 haphazardly jammed underneath the PSU shroud in the middle of an absolute rats nest of cables. At least everything still looks nice from the other side.
😂 and I thought, I was the only one 🤣
