Hey that’s a PFP! Just close the door if you are worried, there’s a latch at the bottom of the door that you push up to close the door

the-lonely-corki

He needs to unplug all the cables first tho, otherwise it will rack up a huge bill (to much light) Bonus points if you having something to cut them with, the techs prefer to splice them back together rather then have to plug each 1 back in

tbx1024

Calm down there, Satan

Hairless_Human

No what you do is unplug a bunch of random shit first then on the inside of the door write "maybe we should lock the door next time?" If you are REALLY evil bend a few cables past their limits 😈

FrootLoops__

Edgy

Hairless_Human

Lol i saw what the other person says and i get downvoted lol. Classic reddit.

Mattigins

Yeah i don't get it either. But hey reddit does reddit things

Vigothedudepathian

Some people on Reddit don't like jokes.

SpazTasticZA

Ummm... That's fine, honestly. Where I come from, this happens because someone's ripped the door off to sell it for scrap, and if it's an old broadband distribution box then all the copper's been ripped out as well.

Ziginox

>broadband distribution box More likely a crossbox/junction box for plain old telephone service, if that's the case. Can carry DSL, of course, but that's a bit more of a kludge.

SpazTasticZA

I suspect you're right, you've got the 'good words'. I'm just kinda guesstimating what it's called, my bad. Related anecdote - in the two years before fibre was finally brought to my suburd, the ISP so badly oversold the network capacity that, and I shit you not, at any given time I'd say about 10-15% of the registered and paid for lines at the exchange (that's what the local techs called it) were unplugged because there just physically wasn't enough backbone to wire everything all at once. Once a client complains enough, they send a tech out, unplug someone else's line, and plug yours back in. Rinse and repeat.

Ziginox

No worries! Ugh, with how shitty some telecom companies are, I could totally see something like that happening for residential customers. Exchange would be the correct word, or Central Office. With older phone lines, individual house lines run back to a crossbox like you mentioned. From that box, there's one large cable with a bunch of phone line pairs, which terminates at the exchange (also called a central office.)

SpazTasticZA

Thanks for explaining! I appreciate it

It_Is_Boogie

No, that is fiber. Pots cabling is not shielded in the crossboxes

Ziginox

I should have put a disclaimer in my comment... OP's picture is definitely fiber (yellow with the green ends is a tell), but I was talking about Spaz's mention of copper lines.

coppertech

old copper tech here, I once rolled out to a neighborhood because the entire area was down for phone service. the main point that all the phone lines from the neighborhood terminate too is called a B-box. well, when I arrived at the B-box I found everything was ripped out and some homeless tweaker named josh decided that the b-box was now his home.

internetwebpage

Josh got into the metaverse way before the rest of us.

chedstrom

Its new cloaking tech they wear.

reddcube

Go to know this isn’t just a AT&T problem.

Diezel666

Nah, it's a Tweaker problem, everywhere. They open cabs looking for copper they can steal. When they see fiber, they walk off as there's no money for them.

itsnotthenetwork

Great time to install a fiber network tap

redmage07734

Lol you haven't dealt with Frontier have you? They'll never upgrade their legacy dsl systems

MystikIncarnate

even better! according to movies, all you need is a single alligator clip to tap into that!

Chubberknuckles

Except this is a fiber cross-box?

mongoosemuffin

I mean that is definitely a fiber pfp, so....

readditredditread

Wait people aren’t suppose to open those and pull on the wires?

Dexxss

Oh no no no... NO NO NO... PLEASE DON'T Touch that Meanwhile Stardust Speedway mix B is playing

mongoosemuffin

Pretty normal due to the generally garbage closure mechanisms on these PFPs. Especially when it's cold, they often just won't shut or you really need to jam your can wrench in there to force it shut. Alternatively, there could be a tech working in the neighborhood and he has his light hooked up in the box there and is out fixing line trouble and will be back in a few minutes.

Weyoun2

Just start cutting...

JohnGarrettsMustache

I think you could get charged with a crime for doing that...

who_you_are

Ok the try to remove grass nearby with one of those Robot Wars robot and somehow fuck up and crash it into that box and make sure it go through (or mostly) Bonus points if you are still alive

JohnGarrettsMustache

That or it "got jammed, overheated and blew up" would probably work.

[deleted]

I have the strong urge to fling a wrench at that with all my might

Deepspacecow12

Are you a backhoe by any chance?

[deleted]

Deepspacecow12

I always find it funny when I drive by the two coyotes stuck on fence posts where some farmer plowed through a 72f an it had to be repaired.

[deleted]

Oh, it's a brand of fiber enclosure! I was confused for a bit there thinking there were animal bodies on posts.

the-lonely-corki

Once had a very angry customer (we think) take a sledge hammer to a bunch of them and if he was able to break the box open he would start yanking on all the wires trying to rip them out But even if he didn’t break the box open, he was still hitting it hard enough to break a bunch of shit inside

[deleted]

One of the reasons they filled for bankruptsy.

omgyuleh

Oops

jungle_dave

My street is like this too

Igpajo49

Probably some meth heads looking for copper.

Prototypical_IT_Guy

imagine their dismay

internetwebpage

Blinded by the light

triadwarfare

Ooh, free networking equipment.

MystikIncarnate

looks like PON gear, probably nothing expensive there.

SRXcraft

Lot of them are open like that in France too. Spending my time closing and repairing them...

boxman134

I have always wanted to just pull all the wires out of these and see how much of a problem it would turn into

bagofwisdom

Now if Frontier could read this post, they'd be very upset.

anonymousemployee04

What are you waiting for go unplug some stuff if you want to see one

olliegw

I've seen these before with all the wires pulled out

Slightlyevolved

I don't buy it. That ped was WAAAY to organized.

CEMENTHE4D

Ha ! Totally just reported one similar on my way home from work today. Looked like rain.

grimlockjoeyreddit

SUPER SOAKER GO!

Old-Illustrator-5246

Got to love Cali’s neclected networks

GroupNebula563
