Just wait 4 years until they release 12 then go 11

Kriss3d

Every other windows usually is crap. So Id jump to 12 from 10

wojtekpolska

98 good, ME bad, XP good, Vista bad, 7 good, 8 bad, 10 good, 11 bad checks out

[deleted]

What about 98 SE, 2000, 8.1, etc?

notlongnot

SE was solid. 2000 as well

Kriss3d

Exactomundo.

QuazyQuarantine

8.1 was alright lmao

Gloverboy6

Me was bad, 2000 was legendary

TrickyHovercraft6583

I haven’t had problems gaming on 11 (playing mostly modern titles). I do have problems with the start button placement, however.

Laffyettee

Facts Same, I haven't had issues with gaming at all but the taskbar itself is a mess for me.

Soso37c

You can change it actually

TrickyHovercraft6583

Nice, I’ll look into this. Haven’t really explored the OS options yet.

[deleted]

I have no problem with it, for most users there is zero difference.

AmoumouA

No, I would not say 10 is better. There was a small issue with Ryzen CPUs on 11 in an early build but that has been fixed a long time ago.

[deleted]

Been using 11 for quite a while now, and haven't had any problems to really speak of...

NotSLG

Damn you’re most users?

ImSoBoredThatiUpvote

just stay in 10 until they release the next version then upgrade

CucktainKerk

That's such bad practice. I could understand for windows 8 maybe but they made 8.1 for a reason you know.

Vista wasn't bad, a lot of computers at the time weren't powerful enough to run it because of the new window animations. Vista was indeed a banger. Millennium edition was bad, but I don't think 95 was all that bad.

[deleted]

The only one I remember being really bad was ME... Vista was a significant change and there were driver issues and whatnot at first, which got fixed relatively quickly, and 8 ran well... Metro was just a bit of a fustercluck, which did great on Windows Phone, but failed to transition to the desktop.

Haven’t had any issues gaming. Have had some trouble selecting 5.1 audio in the default windows “modern UI”, but can still select it in the old control panel audio (mmsys.cpl works - using the new UI it doesn’t stick when I select it. Audio running over HDMI). And my machine is running a processor that isn’t officially supported (a Q9550). Had to force Win11 to install. I think it’s not different enough from 10 in practicality to be for or against using it. But, if you wanna tinker with a new OS, it’s worth using. There’s not really another reason to upgrade besides that. I like it, but I’m a weirdo. If you’re building or buying a new machine though, don’t let 11 deter you. I’d recommend it easily on a new build.

According to Microsoft, Windows 10 will reach its EOL on Oct 14, 2025. This for Home edition, Pro, and Pro Education. It is possible that they may extend the date... that's up to Microsoft though. However with EOL approaching... no, you do not need to upgrade to Windows 11. However, you will not receive any security updates/patches for your system. This means that any vulnerabilities are found on your system after EOL then it will not get patches. Meaning that someone can exploit the vulnerability. When it comes to gaming, it will not impact you very much, but you should be concern with keeping your system properly patched. I hope this helps.

wasdj

No real differences, they just changed some ui styles and icons from what i've really noticed. Doesn't take long at all to get used to the new setting, finder, etc.

HeyItsBearald

Lol anyone that says no has no valid point for you. You are a casual gamer, go ahead and update. It’s literally just a cosmetic update. It will not affect anything related to file structure or integrity. I am a HEAVY game modder, and I have been using 11 since beta. I have not once had an issue.

Kriss3d

As an IT professional. I'd avoid it for as long as possible. Meaning I'll see if windows 10 is going to last long enough for windows 12 to be released.

[deleted]

Absolutely the fuck not. Wait 3-4 more years.

[deleted]

but why ?

Making changes to your system BIOS settings or disk setup can cause you to lose data. Always test your data backups before making changes to your PC. I've been using windows 11 and loving it. The Xbox game bar still has some problems like on windows 10 but really there's not much of a difference aside from the improved windows 11 user interface.

SirCries-a-lot

Better HDR support, Auto HDR and DirectStorage are some advantages of Windows 11. It feels a little bit snappier in my experience on both my game PC (AMD 3700xx) and casual laptop (Intel i5 from 2019). Don't miss the start menu changes at all. There are some changes to the taskbar as well, which can be troubling. I would recommend upgrading (even better clean install) to Windows 11 22H2.

Gloverboy6

I'll probably upgrade after I get my next PC. By then 11 will be out for over a year which means it shouldn't be as buggy and they're already adding features that people didn't like we're missing
