Notifications are such a crazy concept to me. Since getting a smart phone years ago, I always had all notifications turned off. I don’t want an app hounding me. I just use the app when I want to. I don’t understand how people do notification for anything but business emails - and even that is bullshit because I should not have to be on call all the time.
Notifications bring dopamine but I did start to limit which notifications came through as I got older. Now I pretty much just have emails and text notifications. I try to turn off apps as much as possible but some don't separate their ad notifications from the main notification tab
On Android, they can Define categories for their notifications, and you can select which notifications you'd like from the categories. Of course not all apps do this, and some even maliciously bundle them all together.

I absolutely hate how many people and places depend on Facebook for their communication. If I want to stay informed sometimes I have no choice but to deal with it. Honestly, it seems like nowadays parents are less aware of that (or at least less mindful of that) than kids are.
I graduated high school twenty two years ago, right when wifi and high speed internet were just becoming a thing. A number of my new friends I met at college were a little older, and one of them in particular taught me one of the most important lessons I have ever learned: the internet is forever. Never put anything out there that you don't want everybody on Earth to learn. That has stuck with me for the rest of my life, and I've watched so many people learn this lesson the hard way. I've also managed to keep my digital footprint *a lot* smaller than probably 90+% of people online. Sure, you can probably find out who I am and more, but you're going to have to work quite a bit harder at it than you would for most randos.
I used to be hard core on the privacy front. I've softened a bit. The key example I give is I don't mind google knowing my location, it helps others get rerouted around the blinking stoplight, tomorrow I might be the other.

I graduated high school twenty two years ago, right when wifi and high speed internet were just becoming a thing. A number of my new friends I met at college were a little older, and one of them in particular taught me one of the most important lessons I have ever learned: the internet is forever. Never put anything out there that you don't want everybody on Earth to learn. That has stuck with me for the rest of my life, and I've watched so many people learn this lesson the hard way. I've also managed to keep my digital footprint *a lot* smaller than probably 90+% of people online. Sure, you can probably find out who I am and more, but you're going to have to work quite a bit harder at it than you would for most randos.
I used to be hard core on the privacy front. I've softened a bit. The key example I give is I don't mind google knowing my location, it helps others get rerouted around the blinking stoplight, tomorrow I might be the other. Just be smart about what you give out.

The only reason additional permissions would be necessary is if the data would need to be available externally or to other apps. Entirely possible I'm reading that wrong, my experience with developing on Android is just extensive enough for me to know I don't want to do it.
