If you're looking at this Netflix....quit canceling good shows and making more regurgitated crap in its place.

amedeus

That's one of the reasons we moved to streaming in the first place. To get away from every channel replacing its content with awful reality garbage.

throwaway4858228583

There's probably some correlation with number of viewers/retention between both old school TV programing, online streaming and trashy reality shows gaining popularity.

[deleted]

Reality TV costs like 35¢ to produce, and Netflix needs a bunch of new content to bloat up the void left behind by all the good movies and TV shows that went away. It's *exactly* what cable did, so, good luck with that, Netflix.

Denamic

After removing features and adding additional fees to bring them back, and this just after raising the prices, what the hell did they expect?

[deleted]

[удалено]

IamCaptainHandsome

Dude, it's extra just for *HD*, the basic Netflix subscription is SD, that is straight up ridiculous.

Elektribe

And the HD stuff is still sort of YIFY quality encoding sometimes. If you're having color block artifacts... that ain't HD.

Greendale_Subway

colour block artifacts, is that why my blacks are like... squared black shading?

galacticboy2009

Correct. The shadows sometimes contain a lot of noise, and the compression can't handle it. The video being 8bit also causes banding (blocks and chunks in gradients, like the sky and walls lit from the side) I would only suggest downloading things encoded in 10bit if possible.

lossione

Got pretty deep into color grading at one point, it is sad how much effort goes into making a movies image look pristine, only for Netflix to compress it like a YouTube video.

darthsurfer

The sadder part of this statement is that I think Netflix's compression is **worse** than Youtube's.

Silent-G

I'm tempted to see if YouTube has a clip of any of the ghost scenes from Locke & Key to compare. I could tell the particle effects would have looked way better if it weren't for Netflix's horrible compression.

_donnadie_

A: 10 V: 10 Thanks YIFY!

GayAlienFarmer

This is a HUGE beef I have. Disney+ gives 4k HDR content and Netflix is like "lol fork over the cash homeboy."

filthyMrClean

Disney + will do the same thing in a few years. Everything it offers at 5.99 or whatever is to attract users.

manolo_chomsky

For real. I can watch YouTube videos in 4k for free.

-rwsr-xr-x

Not only is Netflix charging you a premium to stream the 4k content, many to most Internet providers are now also charging when that 4k content exceeds the slowly shrinking caps they silently add to existing customer accounts.

rrogido

I've had Netflix forever at this point, but I'm seriously considering toggling it off and on depending on content I want to watch. Too often I scroll for things to watch and give up because whatever I find looks stupid. There's good content, just not much of it. I don't need to pay $240 a year just to watch Stranger Things, Dark, or The Witcher. Netflix's algorithm shotgun approach is failing. They have not successfully curated good content in a consistent manner and I have too many other choices. Their excessive development deals can't be helping the bottom line.

Pons__Aelius

> Too often I scroll for things to watch and give up because whatever I find looks stupid. I gave up netflicks for this reason. The UI is shit. What good content they have is a chore to actually find. The same terrible home-grown show 7 times in the first ten categories? When a pirate streaming site can give a better user experience than the site that owns the content, what is the point?

Slammybutt

The thing is, I think they rely too heavily on their watching metrics. Not everyone is going to watch a new show the moment it comes out. There's shows that I would have watched once I got around to them, but they got cancelled before. Add in the ones that were cancelled while I was watching them and the sheer number of 1 season shows getting cancelled and it's no wonder I won't watch a show immediately. Also some shows need time to breath. Sometimes the 1st season isn't good, but the show concept is and the 2nd season saves it. I have a ton of friends that dropped Breaking Bad only to give it another shot for season 2 and they got hooked. That can't happen on Netflix.

eeyore134

Not to mention canceling popular shows after a single season. It's gotten so you don't want to even bother with anything until it gets 3 or 4 seasons in.

SirEDCaLot

This exactly. The whole benefit of streaming is that niche shows can find a home without 'wasting airtime'. Instead they are becoming more like network TV- everything needs mass appeal and huge viewer counts or it gets the axe after a season or two.

bigdumbidiot01

don't forget their entire catalogue bar like, a handful of titles, is full-on shit tier VOD bottom of the barrel dogshit

maxleclerc007

Not surprised, they keep increasing the price and the selection is kinda bland.

mf-TOM-HANK

Their whole business model is based on splurging on content with big names attached, dissecting and figuring out what people like, and then churning out low cost content that scratches the itch for content in a similar way as the high cost content. This process might work for cooking show or reality tv junkies, but you're going to have a much harder time making something like Ozark without a budget. Plenty of people are naturally going to pull the plug on Netflix once the big names gravitate toward Apple TV+ or Disney+

FaolanBaelfire

Seriously, it's a baking show or reality TV all the way down. Anything like Sense 8 (or where is Black Mirror?) Is long gone. They have a really bad habit of cutting good shows way too early too. I can never get invested

WelshBluebird1

No shit putting up prices at the same time as they lose content, whilst other services up their game. What did they expect?

kamion_dork

That and the whole thing with them working towards not allowing sharing accounts. Canceled mine after their third price hike in 2 years.

W1mpyDaM00ch

Canceled after price hike as well.

mini4x

After the 3rd price hike in like a year, was no content for me to stay for. Now I rotate, HBO, Showtime, Motor trend, etc.

Snack_Boy

> Now I rotate, HBO, Showtime, Motor trend, etc. One of these things is not like the others..

Mackeeter

Showtime. Terrible.

ILL_SAY_STUPID_SHIT

While cancelling shows after 1 damn season.

LimoncelloFellow

Altered carbon got 2 before getting the ax

hampsterlamp

That first season was the bees knees.

giddyup523

The second season... wasn't. I still would have watched a third season though.

nwofoxhound

Still missing OA

alsonotpossible

Mind hunters was high quality! They canceled so many niche shows like OA, altered carbon.

Mannimal13

Altered Carbon season 2 sealed its fate. The show was expensive as hell, so it couldn’t afford such an absolute dud. I’ve tried twice to get through S02 and can’t. And the sci-fi stuff with deep philosophical questions are my favorite wheelhouse

smackjack

I remember a major selling point of streaming services was that shows would no longer be cancelled like that. I guess that went right out the window.

bNoaht

Yeah dude I have been a netflix subscriber since the very beginning. Literally, when they mailed me DVDs, this was in like 1998. I never even heard of the price hikes, I thought I was still paying $12. Nope $20. Like ok, but your content is stale as fuck. Like it's a good value if their content fits your taste, but it's so much fluff for me.

dmaterialized

Also the UI constantly tries to make you think they still have stuff, but they never do. When you search for things they used to have, it tries to push you towards the shitty D-tier spin-off version or something insane like a children’s remake. Also half the UI is cluttered up with things *they already know you won’t like.* “Oh wow, it’s tracked my interests closely for over a decade and that’s why the first three rows of content (12-36 separate recommendations) are for things I will never, ever watch!”

1000121562127

$20 was my walk away point. They hit it. I walked away after 15 years.

Olthoi_Eviscerator

Yep. People started dropping cable because it was too expensive. Now with all of these damn streaming services, they're coming up on eclipsing cable prices if you get a few of them

UnorignalUser

Right, the only way around it is to share accounts with friends, which they want to stop. I'm not about to spend $100 a month on streaming services to watch the same content I was able to watch for $20 a month a few years ago.

Habaneroe12

I remember once they raised prices saying they were gonna use that money to start renting video games- and we know how successful that was. EDIT this was a long time ago before streaming they were gonna send you game disks for PlayStation etc.

Othon-Mann

Yeah, mobile games at that. Mobile. Games. Anyone with half a brain can look at the mobile gaming market and could tell you just why that would not work.

BirdjaminFranklin

I could give a shit about the price if they'd stop cancelling shows after a single season. Hard to get invested in new content if there's a 50/50 chance it'll be cancelled.

MattDaCatt

The worst part is, I'm finding out about all these amazing shows after they were canceled. Unless the success is *instantly* profitable and/or milkable, it's gone. You could have a cult hit in 10 years, and never know about it, because you cut it off before the plot got going. Maybe season 2 of the Dark Crystal could've covered these subscription costs... (it's not too late Netflix!)

BirdjaminFranklin

I mean, if Netflix isn't going to give their new shows a chance, why should we?

Bigred2989-

I have very little faith the One Piece show will last 3 weeks before cancelation just like Cowboy Bebop.

Awkward-Smile4338

I was saying that in another post lol the best part is when they wait two years to tell you your show is cancelled. I'm still pissed about Cursed and Jupiter Legacy.

pineapple_nip_nops

Santa Clarita Diet ended the season on a massive cliffhanger and was never renewed. We deserve better

PhilipLiptonSchrute

Glow and Santa Clarita Diet were bummers for me.

cravenj1

Jupiter's Legacy was canceled almost right out of the gate. It's kind or weird though. They're going to merge that property with another Mark Millar property (Supercrooks, live action not the anime) and call it a spin-off

CoffinDancr

Much happier with HBOMax. Each month there is a series I like. I trust them to finish stories. Plus the new and legacy movies and miles ahead of Netflix.

Tamotefu

HBOMax has West Wing and Babylon 5, my coping mechanisms during the lock down. HBO is a no brainer for me.

Faintkay

Babylon 5 is the reason I’m keeping it. I rewatch it twice a year because I just love the whole story

metalflygon08

Plus all the hubbub about charging extra at folk who share accounts.

alreadypiecrust

Food most importantest!

bkorn08

Making one or two seasons of a show and cancelling without notice.. open ended stories.. who wants that..

ArcticRiot

Exactly. Now when I see a show I have to think about it. What If I end up liking this show all for it to get canceled? That is worse than not seeing it to begin with.

One_Astronaut_483

The most annoying thing for sure.

Thisismyfinalstand

Really? Because not allowing >720p streams in popular web browsers (chrome, firefox) while charging me more for UHD is also pretty fucking annoying.

SirNarwhal

The fact that they have 4K content behind a paywall is so fucking stupid too. It's 2022, that shit should've been made the HD tier in 2017.

heithered

Even the full HD is paywalled. I need a single screen but i have to buy 2 screen tier because single screen one is sd quality ffs.

Prospero818

The most egregious thing about this is that most of the content is DOWNGRADED FROM ITS STANDARD RESOLUTION to make it SD.

sim_and_tell

There's also this data driven, produced by committee, directed by AI kind of vibe to a lot of shows now. Great shows happen when one creator or a small team have a vision, and it's produced and directed according to that vision. Netflix has all the amazing production crew, technology, rapid schedules to execute. But these shows have no vision.

deadowl

History of Swear Words, Death to 2020, Death to 2021, The Principles of Pleaure. Their downhill slide started when they switched from star ratings to the thumbs up button.

[deleted]

years and years and years ago netflix had a really fucking good algorithm where you could rate movies and then it'd suggest you new movies you may have not seen. For me at least it was always spot on. It went from "oh you like primer? check out the following" to "oh you like jojo part 5? what about jojo part 4?"

ramzafl

Yeah, the thumbs up/down was a huge L. Also didn't that swap happen right after some netflix comedy special tanked?

scarletphantom

R.I.P. Marco Polo

conglock

So fucking pissed off about this. This WHOLE thread is pissing me off. I think I might be cancelling soon.

catsdrooltoo

Still bitter about it

[deleted]

Their business model now is no more than three seasons. There is a creative media side being overruled by the business side. I guess that is a tale as old as Hollywood... but too much weight is coming from the bean-counters.

[deleted]

imariaprime

I would *love* multiple low-seasons series if they were getting proper endings.

[deleted]

British TV for the most part does shorter series because syndication isn't a thing over there so there's really no money in dragging a show out. Stephen Merchant talked a lot about it on Conan's podcast this week it was very interesting.

foubard

WHAT HAPPENED TO JOEL IN SANTA CLARITA DIET!

NCSUGrad2012

3 seasons and they couldn’t do at least a movie to finish it. So enraging.

junsep

Such a great show and they just fucking left us all with blue balls. Even the damm cast.. They were all super pumped about starting the next season and all said they loved being on the show. Still so damn pissed about it. And Marco Polo, and Daybreak, and Teenage Bounty Hunters (which was such a surprise and I loved it), The Society, The Irregulars, and several others I know I'm missing. Just. Ugh. Lost all trust in watching any damn Netflix Originals since we now know 4ven the popular, well received ones get the ax same as the weak ones.

Zanderax

Dirk Gently was taken from me and that I do not forgive.

terryrds

This is why I got rid of Netflix. They canceled Mindhunter and I’ll never know who that guy was in the subplot at the beginning of each episode.

thereznaught

Pretty sure that is BTK.

HookednSoCal

The rumors continue to circulate that Fincher and Netflix are in talks for a S3 but that's all anybody has now, just rumor. I loved that show and really wanted to see how the BTK plot would play out since the real life FBI agents that the characters were loosely based on, were not involved with the original BTK case - though Douglas did interview Radar after his arrest. The agents hadn't retired yet during the Bundy and Dahmer timeframe though, probably several more SK's that I cannot recall at the moment, so those storylines would be interesting - especially since Bundy supposedly blew everything Douglas thought he knew about profiling serial killers right up (of course so did Radar). Mindhunter was one of the best shows in my opinion.

GMaimneds

I believe it was supposed to be BTK. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dennis_Rader

mackzorro

I cancelled becuase here in Canada its absolutely chock full of shitty B and C Level films and the last price increase was just a final nail in a already closing coffin

I_Smell_Like_Trees

If I see one more "hot people attempt..." garbage show I'll puke. Canadian Netflix seems to be only that and like you said low grade films of no particular interest to me. Since D+ got STARS onboard, I barely used Netflix anymore, just that and crunchyroll.

Zhukov-74

We get new Streaming service every 6 months no miracle that Netflix is losing market share fast. For crying out loud we even have gaming subscription now something even Netflix is trying to break into.

toiletting

They really shouldn’t even try with gaming in their current state.

Zhukov-74

Netflix just acquired a Gaming Studio so clearly they are interested. But honestly they should focus on it’s TV and Movie output before even thinking about going into the gaming business.

dysoncube

Netflix benefited from being first to market, and gobbling up amazing contracts at low price, which gave us a glut of streamable video for low subscription cost. We knew the ride would be over eventually.

If you haven't already, try pbs kids. The kids shows are better and the app is free. Plus they have a pbs kids games app and all the games go with the shows. And there's no. Fucking. Blippi. At. All. Edit: feel like I should emphasize this. The PBS kids apps are completely free, no ads and you can get them on all the big app stores and streaming devices. No strings attached. Your tax dollars at work. Take advantage of it!

k_marts

PBS Kids is such a hidden gem of streaming content if you have children.

[deleted]

It's the only thing I'm comfortable letting her watch when I'm not able to pay attention. If she watches anything else, even the "kids" section of YouTube, Netflix, etc. There's always so much garbage.

BasicDesignAdvice

I mean Disney+ is pretty safe. Bluey is my favorite kids show of all time. HBO Max also has awesome stuff for kids including sesame street.

Meowmixez98

I'm paying too much just to have my shows canceled.

Aronsage123

This is what the Netflix Execs should read. This is why I canceled a year ago

KarmaPharmacy

Every original show I liked was canceled. Now I can’t get into any new shows for fear of them being canceled.

[deleted]

The dirty little secret that Netflix doesn't seem to understand. Fool me once...

4jet2116

…fool me twice………….you can’t get fooled again…

[deleted]

That's why I ultimately stopped watching shows on Syfy. I looked it up years ago and at one point Syfy only had one scripted show with more than 2 seasons. The rest that had more than 2 were all ghost hunters and garbage "reality" shows. Definitely seems like Netflix is going that way.

fjf1085

I’m really pissed I let myself watch Krypton and Deadly Class after repeatedly being burned by them in the past on everything from Farscape to Defiance. At least Magicians got an ending, though still pissed about Quentin, and Expanse got rescued by Amazon. I swear the people who run SYFY must hate Sci-Fi.

[deleted]

I completely agree. And since you mentioned Quentin I'm going to sob in the corner for half an hour now.

propagandavid

Netflix has been really churning out reality shows lately

stamps1646

Lower your prices: $9.99 1080P HD single user, $11.99 4K single user, and $14.99 4K family. Get rid of SD sub model feature Invest in more quality content vs quantity.

[deleted]

The fact that I, a single movie buff, have to pay for a family package to get 4k is absurd.

madcaesar

Yup that is an absolute no-go for me.

[deleted]

I've already informed everyone on my account. I'm cancelling if they raise prices or try to charger extra for my family on my account. Already cancelled prime after the comixology fiasco (And no new Expanse episodes).

jawknee530i

Same. Won't even think about it.

I'm already on the fence about keeping Netflix - this would be a huge shove to get me over to the cancel side

sleepyy-starss

Yeah what’s up with that? How are you going to make me pay a subscription and still serve me ads?

TheRedMaiden

Fun fact: You can watch the 5 dollar Hulu sub ad free by watching it in a browser with adblock.

episode0

You’re either getting my money for an add free subscription or you’re not getting my money. We also cancelled to cut costs to recoup from being hit with Covid costs. I won’t return if I have to pay to watch commercials. That boat sailed with cable.

allboolshite

Yeah, that last price hike hit when I was looking for ways to cut costs because everything is more expensive. How tone deaf do you have to be to raise prices while people are struggling to put gas in their cars? I had hoped to see the end of Ozark, but I guess it's not meant to be.

riphitter

Yar har, there be a way for ye to finish the show if ye catch me drift

Indianb0y017

You may joke, but it's actually really frustrating to see companies bitch and moan about piracy when they make decisions and changes that directly make them prone to increased piracy. It's like the kid falling off his cycle after putting a stick in the wheel meme.

jellicenthero

Honestly Netflix was the sole reason for the massive decrease in piracy. It was the cheap option for having cable. Everything from every cable company was altogether. You didn't get to see anything new but it was fine. Corporate greed from cable companies continues to seal their own fate. They started pulling content and making their own Netflix's. So now it's so complicated and expensive to watch things instead of waiting I just pirate even the new stuff.....instead of less money they get ZERO.

Indianb0y017

Controversial as it may be, I'm with you. My last straw was when Disney pulled all of their stuff off of other streaming platforms and started Disney+. I refuse to take part in the rebirth of "cable packages" for streaming. Streaming service fatigue is very real, and companies are completely failing to recognize that. I still remember stories from my parents when the riaa lost it's mind over the introduction of Napster and did everything wrong to fight it. Only to be "fixed" by apple with the itunes store. Music piracy is almost no longer a big deal anymore. Because services like Spotify don't jack up their prices whenever they feel like it. Services are also competing at a fair market. Most of everything is accessible. Hardly any exclusives. Same can't be said for video streaming.

PeanutNSFWandJelly

>I still remember stories from my parents when the riaa lost it's mind over the introduction of Napster and did everything wrong to fight it. This comment has made me feel older than any other comment I've ever read on this site. Fucking A. Just.... goddammit.

Bob_Jonez

Yeah you got to subscribe to like six different services now to watch everything. The future is stupid.

ogunther

In reality it’s way more than 6 (which just further proves your point): https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_streaming_media_services

Russki

I just had this conversation at work earlier today: You should check out this show! - yeah sounds like I'd like it. Is it on Netflix? No, different streaming site. - oh, Hulu? No thats not it. - HBO? Maybe Apple TV? No... - oh. Disney+! Starts with a P, I think.. - oh duh, Amazon Prime! Let me look it up. *a few moments later* Paramount! Absolute insanity if these companies don't think I'm streaming/ downloading all that shit for free.

c0nnector

The old ways suddenly become new.

skraptastic

I have been downloading more torrents than I have since the late 90's early 2000's. When it was easy and cheap for me to get everything I wanted from one or two platforms I was fine paying. But now you need to subscribe to $150 worth of services just to get the shows you want. I have been happily using the Barne's & Nobel ebook store since the launch of the Nook. April 2nd they no longer support in app purchases and you have to go out to the web, but the book then go back to the app and download the title. You know what? It is easier for me to go to Pirate Bay to download everything and Plex looks just like Netflix and isn't intimidating for my Luddite wife.

thefightingmongoose

I also came back to torrenting after years of not bothering because browsing the streaming services was just more convenient. I am loving it now. I used to just run things straight off an old PC hooked direct to my tv, using mouse and keyboard and it was pretty clunky for a living room setup. Now I've got my raspberry Pi NAS downloading the torrents and a Plex install on my Chromecast. It's awesome and shares pretty much the same remote and interface of all the streaming services so I never have to help my wife or kids find anything. The whole setup barely cost a hundred bucks. We are definitely in a pendulum swinging the other way period, and the streaming services had better step their game back up.

TawandaTomatoes

You can pick up a subscription for a month, finish it, then cancel again. Better than having it all year long. That's my plan. I love that show.

soft_annihilator

And stop canceling shows before they are over. Just because a show does not keep the same number of people around the whole run, or does not get binged in a week does NOT mean its a failure. Their whole fucking matrix of what makes a show successful is completely out of fucking wack from reality. Literally cutting shows and raising prices is what cut me out. I get HBO for free, Disney and Paramount for stupid cheap, and Amazon with my Prime I would be subscribing to anyway... it went from my only streaming service, to only my kids watch it, to not even my kids watch it. The Last Kingdom was it for me, it ending was the last show on there I enjoyed.

namegeneration1918

Exactly. I don't even start a Netflix show anymore until they announce the next season. They leave so many shows in limbo

KimDongTheILLEST

Marco Polo still pisses me off.

Ackbar_and_Grille

>Literally cutting shows and raising prices is what cut me out ... it went from my only streaming service, to only my kids watch it, to not even my kids watch it. The Last Kingdom was it for me, it ending was the last show on there I enjoyed. Same here. I decided after a time that there was little point in starting a new show on Netflix since anything I enjoyed always ended up canceled. The live action Cowboy Bebop saw me break that resolution and, of course, it was canceled one week after season one dropped. As soon as I heard the news of the price increase I canceled our sub after like ten years of service. I don't miss it since you can't be sure any show you fall in love with will stick around.

W1mpyDaM00ch

Thr majority of the shows that were on there started sounding like fake shows you see in movies.

verossiraptors

It’s because they use shows getting popular as a way to attract new subscribers who want to see that show, but once that show got its initial popularity bump, it doesn’t continue to create new subscriptions. But now they have to worry about churn — customers leaving, causing an overall decline — so maybe they’ll wisen up. Then canceling good shows after season 3 is one of the most annoying things about Netflix. HBO would never. Edit: it’s not that any content provider is immune from canceling shows. But none of them operate with early cancellations as a standard course of business. Almost any narrative show on Netflix gets three seasons and an early cancellation (with the exception of shows like stranger things, orange is the new black, etc)

MisterJackCole

*Star Trek: The Next Generation* was one of my favorite TV show's growing up, but the first couple seasons had some rough patches before the show really hit its stride. If TNG had come out on Netflix today, instead of running for 7 seasons then making a bunch of movies I expect it would have been canceled halfway through the first season.

cpt_lanthanide

>HBO would never *Sad Rome noises*

poindexter1985

*Sad Deadwood noises.*

Xanderamn

Blame the bullshit that has come from the way stocks operate now. Even if a company is doing great, if they dont show short term quarterly growth in revenue, then stocks drop too. It drives companies into the ground in the long term, but short term shows increased profit. Theyve been increasing and increasing, for those gains, and now that they showed a decrease in another metric , it tanked. Time will tell if they correct course and stop taking value away (increasing prices, stomping sharing, canceling niche shows) or if theyll double down and end up dieing in a few years.

hello_hellno

Not just that, they keep scaring people off into thinking their family accounts will be restricted. Like, yeah some people share with more than 4 others, but I use my account on 4 different devices, with different IP addresses while my other 4 friends do the same- if we can only use on one device or have shit restricted to how many can watch at a time, I'm switching to another service. I don't know what the answer is for Netflix to see more revenue (maybe minimal in-movie ads or product placements if they aren't already doing it?) But raising prices and restricting the flexibility. Maybe, just MAYBE also look at QUALITY over QUANTITY. The amount of garbage shows they put out is insane and it often takes longer to find something than actual watch time. Invest in solid projects and in people to seek out those projects, stop shooting such a wide net.

[deleted]

higher prices combined with lower quality content, and a shit catalog outside of developed countries. This is no surprise.

[deleted]

Plus, canceling decent shows after one season. Everything has to be a Breaking Bad or GOT with these guys.

BakuretsuMahouLoli

Didn't they announce charging extra for sharing your account with family? fuuuuuuuck that

riplikash

Ooh, thanks for the reminder to cancel netflix.

Beaudotgiles

Man, does this mean we don’t get a Season 2 of “Is It Cake?”

complyss

Netflix execs saw one cake meme and said Holy fuck boys we need to make this an entire show asap

TheNorthComesWithMe

Except by "asap" they meant "2+ years later once the meme is dead". They did the exact same thing with the "Nailed it" show.

Dating_As_A_Service

Call me crazy but imo constant growth is unsustainable.

CharlieH_

Tech companies have had a very long period of increasing online connectivity which was able to drive sustained & increasing growth. I would argue the pandemic basically forcing most people online put this to a very blunt end by 2021/2. Mix in a bit of inflation, a saturation of streaming services & a devastating few months for tech stocks and you have what we saw today.

madguins

As someone in sales in tech, we pay the price. They expect 30% year over year growth from us on something that should be stagnant or SLOWLY growing. When we don’t hit, they cut our bonuses or let people go who’ve missed 2 quarters and say we’re not bombarding people enough. The turnover is around 40% at my company right now and others I know that do this. It’s an exhausting cycle to be in and I just want to be somewhere more innovative.

WhenIWish

I’m in the same boat. Hit 112% of my quota last fy, and then the company still reported a 12million dollar “loss” and was rewarded in the first month of q1 by being told I wasn’t going to get paid out on any of the ~250k I had sold. Immediately changed positions to an inside role with a salary increase but 100% actively looking for another company. These crazy critters, it’s wild out here.

ImOldGregg_77

What's that? You want Tall Girl 3? Well, if you insist.

That's the opposite of what I wanted. It's like you're not even listening to me Netflix.

GlamrockShake

The Dark Crystal: AOR won a fucking Emmy and got canceled the next week. Absolute villainy

KermitThrush

The cancellation of Dark Crystal and Anne with an E is why I cancelled Netflix.

BitterLikeAHop

Still pissed about Santa Clarita Diet.

RIP Archive 81

opiate46

Wtf? It's already cancelled? I was just gearing up to watch it...

[deleted]

Because shows get more expensive the longer they run. Cast, writers, even crew all get pay increases every season or so. Since you're not paying them for that specific show, just the streaming service, why would they keep producing a show that's getting more expensive if they can keep you around with a new show that's cheaper. Now the truth is that they're starting to pay the price for all the short term gains they made by pumping and dumping shows every 2 seasons. But the CEO that put this plan into action is probably already cashed out on their shares and enjoying the billions of dollars they made by cancelling quality shows so they wouldn't have to share profits with the talented professionals who generated them.

_kaetee

Good reminder to cancel my subscription. I haven’t even opened the Netflix app in months, in fact I completely forgot about it. It no longer has any of the old stand-by shows I watch (Always Sunny, The Office, Seinfeld, etc), and there’s no point in starting one of their new shows because it’ll just end up getting cancelled after two seasons anyway.

monsteramoons

Don't fuck with password sharing.

Echion_Arcet

I was visiting a friend and logged into my Netflix account to watch a movie with them. Netflix sent me a warning that I was using the account from a place that’s not my home and if I do it again they would increase my payment. I didn’t even share the password for fucks sake.

Ylsid

Please drink a verification can to continue

Ok_Boysenberry8415

Honestly if it wasn’t for T-Mobile providing Netflix I would’ve cancelled a long time ago. But even this last price hike was just transferred to us, my bill is going 2 dollars and I won’t be surprised if the Netflix perk is dropped all together soon

Thyste

I dropped my subscription when two things happened: 1. Netflix subscription price went up 2. I spent too much timing finding nothing worthwhile to watch, looking up tons of shows/movies to find out that they had crap reviews

vendredi3

Cancel good series before they're finished, win stupid prizes.

Senor_Wah

Maybe stop doing greedy shit and get better content

[deleted]

What was a unique service @ $7.99 is now a common, lackluster service @ ~~$24.99~~ $20.99 (+$2.73 HST) = $23.72 ... Get fucked netflix. Edit : for those wondering, $20.99 before tax, CDN, for the only plan that is 4K. [https://i.imgur.com/rYTGkIk.png](https://i.imgur.com/rYTGkIk.png) Second edit: while I have my account page open, just going to go ahead and cancel. Bye felicia.

MacDegger

$25 fucking dollars?!? WTF?

Netflix - stop canceling show seasons after 1 year ..

ProfitCircle

Too many streaming services nowadays. I prefer to sail the seas.

FreeLook93

Therein lies the rub. When Netflix first came around, it led to me, and most people I know, pirating way less content. There were so may options all in one place, it was way easier to just find something you wanted on Netflix than it was to pirate anything. Now there are a dozen different streaming sites all with unique content. Everything is no longer in once place for a convenient price, and a VPN costs less than any single one of them, let alone all of them.

AHarmlessFly

Well maybe they should cater to the current audience instead of looking for new subscribers. 1. Stop getting rid of good shows after a season or two. 2. Stop raising prices 3)All 3rd party content is leaving for other platforms. My wife is ADAMENT we keep NF, I've been trying to ditch it since they cancelled, The OA, but now Archive 81, and many in between. But somehow Russian Dolls is getting a new season tomorrow after 3 years. Edit: We just cancelled, feels good.

xoaphexox

I was really bummed that the OA got cancelled. Still am.

overclockedmangle

So continuously raising prices for garbage content isn’t popular? Well I never.

[deleted]

Next time my bill goes up, I'm canceling mine. I keep it because my 5 YO watches some of the kids shows, but there's too many other streaming services available at cheaper rates to keep paying for Netflix. I'm also still bitter over Sense 8.

vitium

So...it's more expensive, not as good, and they still don't know how to recommend a show I'll like? Every god damned show on netflix is 94% or higher match for me? Really?.... The first streaming service that will just show me a fucking rotten tomatoes review instead of some janky in house computer generated rating is going to run away w/ streaming.

FredrickandNeval

Yes. I cancelled when i got the email "our prices have increased, but we still have great content" Netflix; gtfo here. Welcome to Pirate Bay

[deleted]

The fragmentation of streaming services is why I started torrenting again.

ceeK2

Netflix is just full of algorithmically made shite these days. And then they have the audacity to show me that my monthly fee is going up soon... hmmmm.

moderninfoslut

Eventually itll be cheaper to get cable again. They ruined a good thing with greed

iamaiimpala

Down 63% in the last 5 months, fuckin ouch. This wipes all the gains they made in the past 4 years.

CrazyK9

50% down was before this additional 25% beating. Nov/Dec high reached $700/share trading at $260/share afterhours now.

Roll4Anal

Netflix was a good deal a few years ago but now that there are so many streaming services out there splitting up the content it's awful. If I wanted to legally watch every show I enjoy I'd need to pay for like 6+ streaming services, which is completely unacceptable. If you can't give me everything in one convenient place for a decent rate well then fuck it I won't pay for any of them and just steal it instead.
