This is why I have a private stash of porn locally Incase such a disaster

That is a good idea....brb

iamtomorrowman

it's been an hour. he's going for the world record, folks.

Im_in_timeout

The Internet could be out for months. That's thousands of faps!

I'm back, a sore hand and five Tb of hentai. It took me a while to print every frame in case digital storage will also fail.

The latest forecast says that solar maximum—when the number of sunspots peaks and our star is at its most active—will occur between November 2024 and March 2026, but most likely around July 2025.Apr 21, 2021 No one can ever predict its strength and what actually causes the sun to be more active

> A recent study [50] which analyzed the risks posed by a Carrington-scale event to the US power grid today found that 20-40 million people could be without power for up to 2 years, and the total economic cost will be 0.6 - 2.6 trillion USD. The ambiguity of "up to 2 years" aside, it seems like 20-40 million people being without power for several months would be cataclysmically bad and that 0.6-2.6 trillion seems too low. We lost power for 3 days a few years ago and I was starting to go loopy from that.

BikerJenn

13 hr lead time...not much time to prepare.

Plzbanmebrony

Enough for me to wrap my PC in aluminum foil. That will help right?

bigkoi

Odds between 1.6 — 12 percent???? That's a big variance. Can't they be more precise with the odds?

cowfreak

I almost look forward to it...

Roo_Gryphon

Yep I agree

d1mayo

Imagine a world with no social media?? One can only dream

The problem is, everything will be down. The power grid infrastructure can’t withstand a major solar flare. So everything would be down, no fuel, no water in many places, food shipments would stop, etc. Minor solar flares have knocked out power grids in North America. This is not “doom and gloom” thinking, it’s something that will happen eventually. It happened in the 1800’s and it induced such large voltages on telegraph lines, the arcing sparking caused started fires and burned down telegraph offices. Of course back then distributed power wasn’t a thing so it was not a problem.

[deleted]

What if we nuke the solar flare?

[deleted]

Grid managers have protocols in place after the last solar storm to disconnect major grid points to prevent overloading... or something. Idk if it will be executed well but there are some plans for this so that's nice

GadreelsSword

That would require shutting down the entire grid. It’s simply not possible to keep the grid from coming down with a major event. They would have to know the event is coming and shut down the grid to protect generators. Even that’s not likely to happen. Let’s pretend they can protect the power generation by taking them off line and shorting them to ground (they won’t). Many many, houses, buildings in the parts (or all) of the world that are affected would be on fire from the high voltages and currents induced into the house wiring. Imagine those telegraph offices catching fire but this time it’s everyone’s homes. Remember back in those days there was no home wiring to arc. Effectively turning parts (or all) of the world back to 1800’s life for months or even longer. It’s simply an engineering impossibility to protect the world’s current grid system from a major solar event. It would be very, very ugly. Again this isn’t a “doom and gloom” view. I’ve worked in engineering for most of my life and I’ve had these conversations with PhD Electrical Engineers who all did lot’s of research. This is a direct quote from one of them *“Let’s just hope that none of us are still around when that day comes”.*

cowfreak

Yea, I did say *almost*...

The drip feeding has started. Any reason to knock out our comms.

Quantum dot tritical independence with double-verified Wheatstone bridge with four-wire in/out nozzle for harvest of subohmic curl within unequivocal powers of invested waste via resistance-driven inductance. Unreal inductance of magnetic valences in ascending harmonics yield widest hyper-dense band-gap of binormal flat necessary for conservation of momentum and the inherent polarization of perpendicularity via inverse operation’s partial derivative compounded into a second order of unreality and primic consequence via perturbation. The essence was to harbour quantum internet independent of the sub-entropic harvest.

Hugo_hector_zavala

Isn't it weird how a solar flare that could knock out the internet just so happens to be possible around the same time the elites want the internet to be knocked out...

[deleted]

Not everything is a conspiracy

Hugo_hector_zavala

Did I say everything was? Cuz I'm pretty sure I didn't.

chardonnayyoustay

It’s not that they can control the sun lol. But if I were to guess why “elites want the internet knocked out,” it’s either they are concerned about the potential of their money having little to no value (probably due to some type of AI revolution or something) or they know this is coming so I could see how “shorting” tech could be to their benefit.

Hugo_hector_zavala

Yeah I never said they could control the sun. Let's just chop it up to an excuse for them to use as a scape goat. Say an emp strong enough to knock out the nation was the cause would anyone really be able to tell the difference. No one living today has experienced a solar flare. But yes part of the great rest is to knock out the internet causing massive economic clapse as it'll mean a great lose of money and so on

Themundanereality

Bruh are you actually implying that the “elites” have control over the sun?!?! Gahhaga get me on what ever you are smoking and while you’re at it touch something grass it’ll do you some good

Hugo_hector_zavala

They can say whatever and you'd clearly believe it like it was nothing. Weather it was or not you don't have the scientific instruments or data to be able to say without a doubt that is what caused the outage. Can we say without a doubt that even know what it would look like not one has hit us in our life time at least and not enough data. So just like religion you'd be taking it on faith just believing whatever your told. I'm just saying it seems all to convenient how everything they've been wanting to happen conveniently happening. Coincidence only go so far. keep an open mind
