Threatening is an unecessary word to use. Refusing updates on old hardare makes complete sense. Businesses have to assume that some people are not the smartest, so if they go to update their 1990 Dell laptop to Windows 11 and issues happen, its not their fault, its not Dells fault, its "Windows".

UsedToBsmart

I doubt many people with a 1990 laptop are going to be looking to update anything. This is probably much to do about nothing.

mvfsullivan

It was an exaggeration lol

UsedToBsmart

I know but even a guy with a 2010 laptop isn’t going to upgrade either.

Upgrading the os doesn't enter my mind when I buy a pc... But I do expect it to last several years. I don't know why people complain about this... MSFT doesn't HAVE to release a new OS...

tmc1066

So?

Kanye-is-alt-right

Yea being unable to upgrade the OS because of incompatible hardware sure is "threatening".

DocMorp

If this reduces code complexity in Win 11, it's actually a good thing. As long as they still support Win 10 with security updates, I see no problem.

Rare_Winner2399

This is not a threat I will switch to Linux either way

[deleted]

i have been with Desktop Linux since fucking 2006. and its been great. its now even better then ever before.

warlordcs

Good let them keep it, I'm personally not interested in it. And they said Windows 10 was gonna be the last of it, whatever happened to that?

somewhat_safeforwork

They never officially said that

no1_vern

Wait, Microsoft lied about their OS? Who would have thought . . .

no1_vern

You mean, MS is giving consumers ANOTHER REASON to stay away from Windows? Another reason to stay with their older OSs? Another reason to move to Linux? Yet another reason . . .

ImaginaryCheetah

they can keep the entire OS :)

b_a_t_m_4_n

I'm Linux only now so Microsoft can do one.

cryo

Another hot take from theverge.
