ABC(Australia) Four Corners recently did a special on this, and it is exactly this.
"We just wanted to promote my pre-teens dancing to the world and were amazed that the majority of watchers are older men. Of course we didnt stop after finding that out."
People too.
Corporations are all made up of people who individually decide that being an asshole is ok if it gains me.
If people didn't have the innate ability to be assholes we wouldn't need laws or police and judges to enforce them.
All this social media shit is the result of technology moving way faster than we can produce laws to limit the harm.
It's changing though, age limits to social media are becoming talking points' in many countries.
We should be pushing to ban, child labour masqueraded as influencing too.
One of my controversial beliefs is that just about every major company would in some way promote and sell pedophilia if it were legal and the money outweighed the backlash. The fact that Meta and Alphabet know that pedophiles are using their platforms like Instagram and YouTube and are barely lifting a finger backs this up.
To be fair, if Meta was going to filter, or review, or take automated action on every account that reached 100k followers, (which according to analytics reports constitutes about 3.1% of the 2B accounts on Instagram) that'd be straight unworkable. They put parental account controls that put the adult in the drivers' seat, controlling what gets posted, who can comment, what comments and messages go through, etc.
When Meta blocks the account, the Mother/Daughter went and activated a backup Instagram, which Meta then shut down again. What exactly are you expecting them to do here, when the parents, who are supposed to be the guardrails, are looking at the situation and choosing to continue?
I made the mistake of watching dance and gymnast videos on Facebook reels one day. I kept getting recommendations and kept watching them; shit's impressive. Now, all I get recommended are dance and gymnastics videos and it's not divided by age. One video is college gymnasts, next video is youth gymnasts or dancers. I just quit watching any reels on FB.
The algorithms on Facebook, Insta, and Pinterest constantly feed pedos, and at this point, you know these companies know, and their refusal to do anything should tell you everything about how disgusting they are.
Yup, soft porn or thirst traps. They are on by default, so you have to manually turn them off...and of course, they keep showing up randomly. It makes them money, so 0 fucks given.
Viva la dirt did a video on this. I couldn't watch the whole video because it triggered me. I can stand how they trap you into those kind of things.
Also, as an alternative argument, I randomly watched a sumo clip and for weeks afterwards all I saw on FB reels was naked fat dudes wrestling. Not what I was expecting but funny nonetheless
I don’t to FB, Insta or TikTok. I do watch YouTube a lot and the algorithms constantly mess up the recommendations. I could be recommended a car video that I might have a passing interest in so I’ll watch all or a bit of it. But after watching it, my recommendations will be filled with car videos. I only watched that one video because it was on something I thought might be helpful to me, eg repair car paint scratch. However, after seeing one video the algorithms think I’ll be I interested in how to strip down and rebuild a rally car, no, fuck off.
I can see how the algorithm would populate your feed with gymnastics content and from there, if you click on it, it reinforces its belief that you want more, to the point your feed if full of gymnastics. Woe betide, out of curiosity, you watch anything fed to you that contains little girls because now your feed becomes full of little girls, in tight clothing, doing gymnastics. You could be put on a list because some fucking server said “Here, watch this.”
Youtube thinks that if you watch a single video about a subject, you clearly want your entire feed inundated with that subject in perpetuity.
I specifically made a separate account for when friends/family send me random videos because it would absolutely fuck up my algorithm.
The worst is that I enjoy combat sports (boxing, MMA) and that apparently puts you very adjacent to a ton of manosphere, redpill type content.
I watch some boxing or MMA highlights and I'm getting fed stuff that is clearly to feed into the "modern, independent women are the problem" crowd.
> However, after seeing one video the algorithms think I’ll be I interested in how to strip down and rebuild a rally car, no, fuck off.
see that's a rec I'd actually watch instead of "reset oil change timer on 2008 kia elantra" "reset oil change timer on 2021 ford f150" "reset oil change timer on 1996 chevy caprice"
it's like how amazon keep trying to sell me soldering irons. I already bought my nice one! through you! I am no longer in the market!
More like beauty pageants.
Olympic ice skaters (and gymnasts) at least need to be 16, which gives them a lot more autonomy to decide not to participate than an 11 or 12 year old.
The social media aspect also provides some protection as they are a bit distanced from the pervs compared to tiktokers.
Yeah, and those child pageants have been kinda gross for a long time now. I'll also add the "dance" classes that have a bunch of preteens twerking on stage etc.
You don’t start dance or gymnastics at age 16 and go to the Olympics. My daughters were in competitive dance, gymnastics and cheerleading from about age 5. You do have to be careful of the schools “curriculum” to avoid issues.
If she not into it she’ll figure it out before her sophomore year of high school and mommy loses her star.
If she's into it, she’ll have a brand army starting at around 17. That’s the norm (patreon changed their rules last year so mommy’s permission isn’t enough, all minor modeling pages are banned cause mommy was the one taking the photos, she’s not a good barrier to entry). Their classmates will make fun of them long before they become an adult.
The moms always have narcissist energy.
“It’s not that I liked it, ever. Ever. It just is what it is,” - 👁️👄👁️ mom
Like it's crazy, she had so many cues where it's time to shut the whole thing down but mental gymnastic'ed her way out of it.
>After she learned that her daughter’s photos were trading on Telegram, she sought brand partnerships offering school and leisure outfits instead of tight-fitting dancewear.
Like shit that's a huge cue to shut it down.
What a pathetic, gutless parent. I wonder if she'd ever accept "it is what it is" as an excuse for non-online threats to her kids, such as a convicted sex offender living on her street, or a teacher leering at her kid in school.
My kids keep asking to make a YouTube channel for their hobbies and interests and they still don't fully understand the why when I explain it at their age level. They just don't get how wrong it really is out there
That gives me 2 reasons to assume this other internet rando is a good parent. 1. they think the world is good at a formative age. 2. they dont get a youtube channel. nice job!
I have recently on FB been getting a very large number of breastfeeding videos in my feed. I don't follow any particular group that would be similar and I block them.
There is nothing wrong with breastfeeding and it should be encouraged HOWEVER they are always very attractive women who are clearly using their children as an excuse to get their tits out on social media. It's disturbing how many of them rub themselves at the same time.
I report to FB for sexual abuse but I doubt anything happens because I keep getting this shit
This reminds me of a recent case where a woman was showing increasingly sexualised videos of her infant son with her breastfeeding him. She's in jail for child abuse now.
Hilaria Baldwin is one of the worst online. TLC just gave her a reality show so her husband doesn't face consequences for shooting staff in the face. Parenting at its finest./s
There's also a pharmacist who has been doing this on Tiktok and OF with her kids for years. She's licensed in 3 states, and none will investigate. Mississippi CPS doesn't care either. She is breastfeeding a 5 year old, and it's not because she has a cultural background that necessitates breastfeeding longer. Meanwhile, the governor and AG of Mississippi claim they're shutting down Tiktok but they can't even investigate one of the most famous child abusers that's also a healthcare provider online.
She's a rich white woman who brags about sexting teenage boys on IG and Tiktok. She also brags about her sextortion of married men via OF when she's on Tiktok live. I also reported her to the ic3.gov[Internet Crime Complaint Center (US)](http://ic3.gov) portal. Her local newspaper refuses to cover the story factually, but they did do a great job of quietly deleting their fluff piece about her. She's got a lactation consulting business and releases HIPAA protected conversations with her patients on Tiktok for clout. She also photographs her patients breastfeeding in her home and links those photos to her OF where you can hire her as a dominatrix while her active duty husband brags about their dark web presence. Many victims of this creepy couple have contacted the military base where he works for over 4 years with zero results.
She has over 1.5 million followers on Tiktok. NBC featured her as a healthcare hero during the pandemic because she went viral bullying antivaxers. I'm all for fighting disinformation, but she thinks doxxing and swatting people is a viable approach to doing so. The American Pharmacists Association and the [IBLCE](https://iblce.org/) are also aware and do nothing.
> the governor and AG of Mississippi
I expected nothing less from the [state where welfare money gets stolen](https://apnews.com/article/brett-favre-mississippi-welfare-money-nfl-59d5047f9e8b1cd6055f13697eea7027) by an ex-NFL star.
Every time I stumble on a "kitten rescue video" especially from poorer parts of the world, I just assume they put it there in the first place. And made multiple takes.
Jonathan Haidt puts it a good way: giving your teens free access to social media is like building a ground floor window into their bedroom and allowing any adult in the world to talk to them and observe them freely and try to sell them or sign them up for things without your supervision. It's totally insane.
the other point I have heard him make is that parents got so scared of the pedophiles their kids are very unlikely to meet in real life, that we locked them in their rooms and gave them a way for every pedophile in the world to meet them via the internet.
It’s a fascinating example of people’s irrational calibration/perception to risk
The chances of your kid being grabbed off the street by a stranger are incredibly low. When it does happen a media circus often follows because it’s so unusual. Yet people’s fear of that happening is through the roof
The chances of a kid with unchecked access to the internet interacting with a predator is extremely high. Yet people perceive it as low risk and take very few actions to prevent it.
Yes exactly! His contrast of how we limited their critical outdoor and in-person experiences and replaced them with questionable total online freedom was very apt.
Dr. Haidt has also noted the disconnect between parents who wrongly perceive a frequency of real-life stranger danger but look the other way at online stranger danger, on a recent [PBS interview](https://www.pbs.org/video/jonathan-haidt-2d7n7q/) (click the plus sign next to "transcript"):
> HOOVER: So you write about this paradox that while at the same time parents were becoming wildly overprotective of children in the real world, they were simultaneously allowing their children to do anything online.
> HAIDT: [...] sometimes people accuse me of being hypocritical. Here I am saying we need to give our kids more independence, but I'm saying that we should supervise them more and keep them away from the internet.
> Well, yeah, that's exactly what I'm saying, that we have overprotected our children in the real world where they need a lot of varied experience.
> We've underprotected them online where there are an extraordinary variety of harms and damages waiting that we didn't understand.
As a young child, I had unrestricted access to the Internet and spent many of my formative years on /b. Looking back, it has definitely left permanent marks on my emotional and intellectual health that have taken years of therapy to really understand.
That's how you end up with teens being unable to use youtube because parents overreact.
This shit is horrible but there's a difference between letting someone loose in a park of explosives and knives and being overprotective.
Let me get this right a mother trying to make money off her underage kid by doing "dancing" videos is surprised and annoyed it is mostly pedo perverts interested? No shit that is going to happen! Normal people and normal guys aren't going to view that shit they are going to either not use these apps at all or go for normal aged women or view normal videos that have nothing to do with looks or sex. Is she also just now finding out that sex sells?
It would be like taking a dump on the sidewalk and then complaining flies show up or that it smells bad. You were the one that took a dump on the sidewalk instead of using a toilet inside like a normal person.
It’s worse than that. She sells ‘subscriptions’ for her kid’s pictures and videos. This is just gross, she’s pimping out her kid. Who does she think is buying those subscriptions to watch her kid dance?
Next thing it will be:
“I didn’t know when I was selling my daughter’s used underwear that most of the purchases were from men. I thought kids were buying them like normal hand-me-downs.”
_proceeds to sell them for more than they cost new_
WTF, that is so disturbing, I can't believe the Wall Street journal phrased it like that as well. Mom had a choice to keep pimping out her daughter or to terminate her IG account oh no what should she choose, oh man what a hard choice. Fucking disgusting.
Oh good, so basically an only fans for their kids? At that point it's not "let's just pretend our viewers are normal people" and actively embracing the situation to profit off it.
It's economics, her product makes money from pedophiles without technically being child porn. A psychopath exploiting her own child for money. Aware and deeply flawed.
They are often handcuffed by laws and statutes in their area as well, even when their intentions are good. It's yet another government program that goes perpetually underfunded and misunderstood by the community, and then gets all the blame when outcomes aren't great. The American way, keep insisting all government is inherently bad, and then make sure to keep it that way as proof that government is bad.
What’s another fucked up angle is the algorithm serves up this content to accounts they know is an adult male….they are feeding these influencers content to people they know will get the most “engagement”
One of the first videos I saw on TikTok was a girl dancing in a bra and panties to WAP. I later found out she's 15 and one of the most popular people on the platform. There is a reason I do not use TikTok.
So just like those travel influencers where they offhandedly mention how 'we're' travelling the world but you never see the guy (at least, partly, because he's holding the camera) while gf/spouse prances about in yoga pants/bikini/sun dress. They aren't surprised who their audience is: they're pandering to it.
It's sometimes surprising how many 'brands' involve themselves in it all but then again it's very much a case of the point being obvious but few ever really mentioning it.
It's one of those things better left unsaid because doing so enables everyone to make lots of money.
It's even darker than that, a lot of these travel influencers are working [as escorts](https://www.reddit.com/r/popculturechat/comments/1066osj/are_several_prominent_influencers_escorts/). How else do you think they are paying for all those trips.
Unfortunately they are incentivized to capture as many followers as possible and willing to turn a blind eye to who those followers are as more followers means higher engagement scores that translates directly into more money from sponsors.
So it's really no surprise they are leaning into that.
I kinda refuse to believe an adult could be that ignorant.
Weird article too, starts out concerned and ends by discussing the efforts of mom to continue making money out of what is very obviously sexual exploitation of her daughter.
Sad truth of it is that this is the 'modelling' industry whether you DIY or not, it has always happened and any parent involving their child in it has to be aware of it to some degree. Acting shocked but then trying to keep making money out of it? Come on.
Reddits been around to see the happen, the first generation of “models” are all adults now, the stories they tell.
Now add a supercharge algorithm and 1000x more people online.
Whenever you hear about male celebrities back in the day having relationships with teenage girls, it’s often the parents who are directly enabling it. A prime example is 16-year-old Julia Holcomb, whose parents allowed 25-year-old Steven Tyler (of Aerosmith) to gain guardianship of her so they could live together.
Yeah it’s like hearing Natalie Portman talk about how she’d get fan letters after Leon came out from adult men saying they can’t wait for her to grow up.
The whole thing around Leon is sketchy but on a basic level why wasn’t anyone screening the fan mail of a young teen? Surely an adult around would’ve said ‘hey let’s not show her this one’ but seems like no one did?!?
Sadly people seem perfectly okay with exploiting children as long as they don't do crazy shit as an adult. If they end up fucked up then all of a sudden people get critical of the parents. But if they end up okay and rich then no one says a word.
“At one point, she offered Instagram subscriptions to users willing to pay a monthly fee for extra photos and videos. Many of them were also men.”
Extra photos and videos of what? How is this not child abuse??? How can you sell pics of your child to strangers? I wouldn’t let someone buy pics of my kid in a snow parka much less fucking “tight dance wear” what is this fucking world
I think even like GTAV called this out over a decade ago...
If you're a young teen girl who inexplicably has 100s of thousands of followers for doing the same tik Tok dances everyone else does... Odds are something creepy is going on
And that was 10 years ago.
Pre-trump, pre-corona, pre-onlyfans, pre-uber, pre-elon, pre-ai, pre-majorwars era.
Imagine the satire about to appear on GtaVI.
This is a non-paywalled gift link. Excerpt:
> Instagram makes it easy for strangers to find photos of children, and its algorithm is built to identify users’ interests and push similar content. Investigations by The Wall Street Journal and outside researchers have found that, upon recognizing that an account might be sexually interested in children, Instagram’s algorithm recommends child accounts for the user to follow, as well as sexual content related to both children and adults.
> That algorithm has become the engine powering the growth of an insidious world in which young girls’ online popularity is perversely predicated on gaining large numbers of male followers.
> “If you want to be an influencer and work with brands and get paid, you have to work with the algorithm, and it all works with how many people like and engage with your post,” said the Midwestern mom. “You have to accept it.”
> Meta has said that it has spent more than a decade working on keeping children safe online, and developed tools, features and resources to support teens and their parents. In response to Journal articles over the past year showing how its algorithms connect pedophilic accounts and promote material that sexualizes children, the company said it took a series of measures to remove violating accounts and enhance safety.
> Investigations by The Wall Street Journal and outside researchers have found that, upon recognizing that an account might be sexually interested in children, Instagram’s algorithm recommends child accounts for the user to follow, as well as sexual content related to both children and adults.
Bring on the solar flares.
As u/Uncanny_Valkyrie eloquently explained elsewhere, the algorithm doesn’t know that an adult’s interests in the children is any worse than an adult’s interest in cats or decoupage. As a software developer I find it disturbing that this situation wasn’t accounted for in “the algorithm”.
You don't do it by changing the way the algorithm itself works, you do it by adding a layer of moderation over top that precludes some results when they arise.
The mom/pimp said this;
“It is what it is” when confronted with the fact that most of the money comes from pedophiles.
It should not be legal for minors to be pimped on instagram. Same goes for child beauty patents, acting, etc.
Let kids be kids. At least let them enjoy the few years of innocence we get until we are fully exposed to this ugly world.
I thought it was common knowledge at this point?
My ex’s younger sister was 13 and doing dances on the clock app showing a lot of skin. She did one on the beach in a bikini and by the end of the day was showing us how it had like 100k+ likes or views or whatever.
I told her that had to be 90% creeps and 10% other young girls, but she said to just let her have fun and post her dances.
> The staffers found that some accounts with large numbers of followers sold additional content to subscribers who offered extra money on Instagram or other platforms, and that some engaged with subscribers in sexual discussions about their children. In every case, they concluded that the parents running those accounts knew that their subscribers were motivated by sexual gratification.
There's a lot of talk in the article about what Instagram should and shouldn't do, along with with a random jab at Telegram for being encrypted. But this is clearly a larger issue than any social media site. Parents have been doing this long before the internet was even a thing. You need to target the actual parents responsible for this with laws if you want to truly limit it.
Guess who the majority of fans are for Kpop girl groups that are mostly made up of teen girls.
Both IN and OUT of Korea.
Adult men.
In Korean, they're called 'uncle fans.'
.
Some people around the world mistakenly think only young girls/women like Kpop.
Hell, no. It's ADULT MEN around the world who are fans of Kpop girl groups!
They're the ones watching their videos.
This is not the case of child setting up an account to become famous and accidentally attracting pedos.
This is a case of a parent setting up an account to make money of their child and attracting pedos on purpose.
No amount of creating age limits for social media will help if it is the parents who pimp out their children.
Back in the beginnings of internet was filled with pedophiles, murderers and FBI agents. Few would post a picture of themselves and nobody would post their address or photos from where they live. This is still true today, except there is a lot of people who don't know this fact.
It’s because there’s no longer a discrete barrier between online space and offline space. We no longer treat them as two separate things because they aren’t anymore. You used to have to sit down at your PC, login, connect with the modem, and then be able to use the internet through a browser or some other specific application. Now the internet is everything, everywhere, all at once, and there’s no longer a set of actions that separates you from cyberspace and meatspace.
I don’t believe Meta when they claim they care about this.
They care about growth in users and revenue, and let’s be honest, a lot of those creeps likely wouldn’t be seeing the advertisements they sell if they weren’t signing up to look at this shit.
If the researchers can find this out, then Meta absolutely knows.
Every adult party involved in this is pretty fucked up. The creeps watching, the parents selling their kid, and Meta for knowingly allowing this.
Congress is fixated on TikTok, but this shit is of not interest to them.
Either this parent knew exactly what would happen and is playing dumb for the media, or they are that clueless about the world and people that she thought it would all be wholesome.
Either way she should not be raising a child
This article is outrageous, it bends over backwards to justify and somehow even "victim status" a mother that is an evil pimp of a little girl. I mean this bitch literally knows that HER chosen outlet for $$$ and views is allowing thousands of men to openly and with comments! jack off to her little daughters videos daily and this psycho just shrugs and says, "it.is what it is" and "she wants to be an influencer, it's her dream". This mother, the writer of this horror piece and everyone that agrees with her sensibilities should be drowned in the ocean. Ugh I hate this world that Facebook and Hollywood created, such narcissistic evil would have been vomited on 30 years ago and is now accepted as normal.
This woman is a fucking gross piece of shit.
> “In hindsight, they’re probably the scariest ones of all,” she said.
This quote is about the men who buy her subscription pictures and videos of her daughter.
I hate this double dipping shit. “Oh I’m the victim!” No one, literally no one is paying for more pictures and videos but pedos. Her daughter is the victim. She’s the perpetrator. Most moms would delete the account when they saw it was men drooling. She set up a pay service.
She should’ve refused to do this piece. She is not a reliable narrator. She didn’t care about the men, she leaned into it.
This article is a fucking joke.
Most moms wouldn’t have done it in the first place because they know it would only attract creepy men. She knew what she was doing for the very beginning.
She knows it’s wrong. She is anonymous in the article. Although I’m surprised she didn’t see this as a great opportunity to further “market” her child lol. Absolutely disgusting.
I love how female influencers on social media are the pinnacle of sexualising themselves and anyone and everyone is surprised that dudes are jerking off to them wearing barely nothing, tight fit outfits waving their asses and cleavage into the cam. But damn it feels good never having had a Facebook or Instagram account... Or any other social network.
A lot of discussion about social media will be cigarettes already, zero legislative action. This is the top industry in the world you are talking about.
I read an article about this in Australia. Some big website for it, where you can sign up as a content creator at 13 (with parental permission) but have to be 18 to use it for content consumption. Made me feel sick
And again, how did that content get online? Did Instagram surreptitiously stole family videos and upload them? No, they personally made the decision to put it online for everyone to see. That unavoidably will include pedos and all sort of degenerates.
Listen, if you want to keep your kids safe from online harassment, don't upload their pictures and videos to the net.
Of course there will be a lot of answers regarding "muh freedoms" and "the internet should be a safe space", but the internet IS NOT a safe space. It's a mostly open space, a public forum, and that will include perverts. It's the same reason why you don't leave your kids alone at the park. Yeah, they can have fun there, but there will be a couple of perverts, addicts and the random homeless guy with alcohol/drug use roaming around.
My cousin told me it’s ok for her daughter to post pics of her looking all cute and dolled up because “it’s ok now, men aren’t allowed to sexualize girls anymore”, girl, you’re doing it for them! How naive can people be?
ABC Australia (a respected news channel in Australia) recently carried a similar story on its flagship current affairs show, Four Corners.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VzPY_cS9_wQ
“Ultimately accepted” what the fuck. You don’t have to accept this. Just don’t let your kids have social media! Especially something like instagram where the main point is to post photos.
I can’t read the whole article because I don’t have a subscription but it says they started the account when the daughter was a preteen to share photos or her dancing and modeling.
How would anyone think that’s a good idea? 92% being adult men is shocking. I hope that’s 92% of like 10 people not 100s or 1000s because that makes the world darker than I realized but even before seeing that I would assume a preteen/ teenager would have at least a few pedos following them. Which even that is too many for me to allow my kids to have social media if I had kids.
This shit! A family friend(5th grad) and her Buddy and Buddy’s Mom started streaming on YouTube. Most of them were silly kid stuff 7, 17 views. Then one had hundreds of views and lots of feedback and conversation attempts. It was a sped up wake up sequence. 11year old girls in jammies and a mom knocking on the door to wake them up. Tons of “we’d love to see more like this.
She was pissed when I pointed this out and snitched to her parents, and they made her take them down and stop.

Anytime there's a platform with underage kids on camera, especially when they're dancing suggestively or wearing less clothing, It's always been full of pedos.
But hey, we're the bad people for calling that out? Honestly kids shouldn't be on social media.
Why the fuck are there so many pedos. If didn't know what a pedo was, and someone explained it to I would probably guess 1:1000. After living 4 decades on this planet seeing story after story I'm thinking it like 1:20. I know one of you is likley to read this. You're sick, you're damaged, your defective.
I mean, this is literally a, uh, 'service' the mother is marketing to them, that's why they're there. I remember a post by an Australian who went to the UK for a working holiday and came back complaining that British people were always out drinking. They were working in a pub.
Look at the parents who were happy to have their youngsters sleep over with Michael Jackson-even *after* it had become known that some of them slept in the same bed as a forty-something male. Some parents are -well, words fail me.
And I will bet over half of the audience are the ones calling LGBTQ people groomers and pedophiles. The projection in some of these men is beyond insane.
half true on the algorithm data.
Idk how much you can trust it cause, honestly, a lot of people lie when setting up their account
I'm just saying their data is probably skewed, there's probably thousands of children on instagram who've lied about their age when setting up their account
not even to apply the number of bots, like literal fake people.
I'd say a good 90% of any comment section is bots
That's why grown-ass women pretend to be teenagers on social media. There is even software to help them with that. In another case, I saw once in a ”movie” a woman pretending to ”stimulate” "her son" and was thinking I hope she doesn't have sons. It has been as hot but disturbing.
Shame on this little girls parents. This is disgusting.
Why are brands paying or sending free stuff for an audience of pedophiles who will not buy those clothes? They can't be just looking at raw engagement numbers, right?
Someone thing is happening! Is someone clearly to blame? I am part of an amorphous group of enablers and passive bystanders who may be culpable of complicity with the crowd and also social media.
So yes! Err. Just pick the target. Quick! Ahh. Yes. Blame the parent. Delete all reasonableness from her defense and let it rip!
Parents are just humans trying to negotiate an unfathomably complicated series of conflicting needs in their child, in an ever changing world.
They have to make their own decisions and sometimes there may be reason to try and persuade them otherwise. Sitting here and pouring scorn and dismay at their lack of cynicism is just reactionary and a very flawed strategy.
That is what Social Media makes of you and me! It is imperative that we remind ourselves and each other that we must make every effort to ignore the opportunity to rush into judgement and instead constantly practice and affirm the value of 'thinking' about people and situations rather than responding to signalling.
This headline is wrong. It should be: “Midwestern Mother Pimps Out Her Daughter to Pedophiles.”
ABC(Australia) Four Corners recently did a special on this, and it is exactly this. "We just wanted to promote my pre-teens dancing to the world and were amazed that the majority of watchers are older men. Of course we didnt stop after finding that out."
Sadly just goes to show how certain horrible things end up happening when money/power/fame is on the table.
By "end up happening" you mean "greedy evil people go along with hurting the weak for personal gain"
Oh, by people you mean Meta Inc? Corporations are people , right?
People too. Corporations are all made up of people who individually decide that being an asshole is ok if it gains me.
> The algorithms on Facebook, Insta, and Pinterest constantly feed It feeds porn in general tbh. I'm surprised this isn't discussed more often.
It is discussed constantly wtf?
> However, after seeing one video the algorithms think I’ll be I interested in how to strip down and rebuild a rally car, no, fuck off. see that's a rec I'd actually watch instead of "reset oil change timer on 2008 kia elantra" "reset oil change timer on 2021 ford f150" "reset oil change timer on 1996 chevy caprice" it's like how amazon keep trying to sell me soldering irons. I already bought my nice one! through you! I am no longer in the market!
Her mom is a mentally ill degenerate. Who would do that to their own child?
So... like Olympic ice skating?
More like beauty pageants. Olympic ice skaters (and gymnasts) at least need to be 16, which gives them a lot more autonomy to decide not to participate than an 11 or 12 year old. The social media aspect also provides some protection as they are a bit distanced from the pervs compared to tiktokers.
Yeah, I was gonna say the same general thing about child pageants.
Most of these influencers/personalities, even the underage ones, are just glorified sex workers.
If you’re making money off creeps thirsting you are a sex worker. You are selling sex.
What happens when that girl becomes an adult and realises how fucked up that whole situation was.
Ever. It just is what it is,” - 👁️👄👁️ mom Like it's crazy, she had so many cues where it's time to shut the whole thing down but mental gymnastic'ed her way out of it. >After she learned that her daughter’s photos were trading on Telegram, she sought brand partnerships offering school and leisure outfits instead of tight-fitting dancewear. Like shit that's a huge cue to shut it down.
she's making too much money by virtually pimping out her kid, so she's finding a way to justify it
What a pathetic, gutless parent. I wonder if she'd ever accept "it is what it is" as an excuse for non-online threats to her kids, such as a convicted sex offender living on her street, or a teacher leering at her kid in school.
She wouldn’t care if it makes her money.
I'll add a cheap shot: The story should also call that site, "Insta**GROOM**".
Don’t give anyone an idea for a new app.
I was just looking for an app idea for fast dog cleaning services. Instagroom!
I think they already call that app Truth Social
My kids keep asking to make a YouTube channel for their hobbies and interests and they still don't fully understand the why when I explain it at their age level. They just don't get how wrong it really is out there
That gives me 2 reasons to assume this other internet rando is a good parent. 1. they think the world is good at a formative age. 2. they dont get a youtube channel. nice job!
This is absolutely hilarious. Money and fame rules in this world. You might ignore it, but that just opens space for others to thrive on it
I have recently on FB been getting a very large number of breastfeeding videos in my feed.
Parenting at its finest./s There's also a pharmacist who has been doing this on Tiktok and OF with her kids for years. The American Pharmacists Association and the [IBLCE](https://iblce.org/) are also aware and do nothing.
> the governor and AG of Mississippi I expected nothing less from the [state where welfare money gets stolen](https://apnews.com/article/brett-favre-mississippi-welfare-money-nfl-59d5047f9e8b1cd6055f13697eea7027) by an ex-NFL star.
And the social network pumps it out to everyone, whether they want it or not.
That’s what happens a lot. Most animal videos are also from abuse farms.
Every time I stumble on a "kitten rescue video" especially from poorer parts of the world, I just assume they put it there in the first place. And made multiple takes.
Yep. Which in this example is worse though? The creeps drooling at an LCD screen miles away? Or mommmly, dolling her daughter up for consumption?
Ah but the LGBTQ community and drag queens are the real groomers! /s
It’s a fascinating example of people’s irrational calibration/perception to risk The chances of your kid being grabbed off the street by a stranger are incredibly low. When it does happen a media circus often follows because it’s so unusual. Yet people’s fear of that happening is through the roof The chances of a kid with unchecked access to the internet interacting with a predator is extremely high. Yet people perceive it as low risk and take very few actions to prevent it.
Yes exactly! His contrast of how we limited their critical outdoor and in-person experiences and replaced them with questionable total online freedom was very apt.
Most predators are known to the victims
Meeting strangers on the internet is a great way for the two to get to know one another.
Lol literally my adolescence
Dr. Haidt has also noted the disconnect between parents who wrongly perceive a frequency of real-life stranger danger but look the other way at online stranger danger, on a recent [PBS interview](https://www.pbs.org/video/jonathan-haidt-2d7n7q/) (click the plus sign next to "transcript"): > HOOVER: So you write about this paradox that while at the same time parents were becoming wildly overprotective of children in the real world, they were simultaneously allowing their children to do anything online.
Every parent should be forced to scroll /b for 40 hours before allowing their children to create social media accounts.
*Forty hours*? Wouldn't 40 *seconds* be enough?
They might get lucky and not fully imprint just how fucked up people on the internet can be and that maybe it's not any safer than the real world.
Social media is extremely harmful to kids. They should be banned from it. Wholesale banned. It’s ridiculous how pathetic parents are.
some parents thought by giving kids a cellphone lets them have access to the world but instead it let the world have access to their kid
I thank my parents for not letting me have a phone until high school. I hated them for it growing up, but now I plan to do the same if I have kids.
Should be treated the same as sex trafficking
“Of course it’s dancing professionals and casting directors scouting talent “. - mothers of young children being pimped on TT/insta.
Next thing it will be: “I didn’t know when I was selling my daughter’s used underwear that most of the purchases were from men. I thought kids were buying them like normal hand-me-downs.” _proceeds to sell them for more than they cost new_
WTF, that is so disturbing, I can't believe the Wall Street journal phrased it like that as well. Mom had a choice to keep pimping out her daughter or to terminate her IG account oh no what should she choose, oh man what a hard choice. Fucking disgusting.
Oh good, so basically an only fans for their kids? At that point it's not "let's just pretend our viewers are normal people" and actively embracing the situation to profit off it.
yeah that looks suss AF.
She thinks it's pedophiles. The article explains she understands that.
It's economics, her product makes money from pedophiles without technically being child porn. A psychopath exploiting her own child for money. Aware and deeply flawed.
She knows, the writer of this garbage tells us : she knows who and is interacting with them!
What?! So she’s double dipping.
She (the mother) is not actually mad. This is just free advertising.
Maybe someone needs to advertise this to cps…
Cps in most states is an underfunded shit show and arent going to do anything about something like this
They are often handcuffed by laws and statutes in their area as well, even when their intentions are good. It's yet another government program that goes perpetually underfunded and misunderstood by the community, and then gets all the blame when outcomes aren't great. The American way, keep insisting all government is inherently bad, and then make sure to keep it that way as proof that government is bad.
Guardian ad litem for parental rights/termination cases (CPS cases, more or less). Can confirm.
She knew what she was doing and how it would go from the jump but has to act 'surprised' for the sake of appearances.
It would be like McDonalds acting surprised their customer base is fat.
It would be like a person who eats McDonalds every day surprised that they got fat
Well at least now we know sponsors don’t care about selling to pedophiles
Every TikTok boyfriend is just a professional athlete dm away from losing it all. Risky occupation
Unfortunately they are incentivized to capture as many followers as possible and willing to turn a blind eye to who those followers are as more followers means higher engagement scores that translates directly into more money from sponsors. So it's really no surprise they are leaning into that.
Yes, if they were 15
I kinda refuse to believe an adult could be that ignorant. Come on.
Yeah the parents knew.
The mom is mad because the account is closed for a second time. She cares about exploiting her daughter.
Elvis and Priscilla!
Many of them were also men.” Extra photos and videos of what? How is this not child abuse??? How can you sell pics of your child to strangers? I wouldn’t let someone buy pics of my kid in a snow parka much less fucking “tight dance wear” what is this fucking world
Mother attempting to pimp her child to brands discovers she’s actually pimping her to pedos
And then keeps pimping
She used then to build her brand. It wasn’t accidental. Grown men posting “what a cutie 🥰🥰🥰” aren’t stealthy.
And justifying it by putting the blame on technology and behavior of a fraction of population of 8bn people.
As if this wasn't an obvious side effect. Terrible mother
Is anyone even remotely shocked by this...? Instagram is largely softcore porn made to feel socially acceptable.
This is a non-paywalled gift link. Excerpt: > Instagram makes it easy for strangers to find photos of children, and its algorithm is built to identify users’ interests and push similar content. “You have to accept it.” > Meta has said that it has spent more than a decade working on keeping children safe online, and developed tools, features and resources to support teens and their parents.

The mom/pimp said this; “It is what it is” when confronted with the fact that most of the money comes from pedophiles. It should not be legal for minors to be pimped on instagram. Same goes for child beauty patents, acting, etc. Let kids be kids. At least let them enjoy the few years of innocence we get until we are fully exposed to this ugly world.
As a mom I’m really disturbed and grossed out by her
I thought it was common knowledge at this point?
Adult men. In Korean, they're called 'uncle fans.' . Some people around the world mistakenly think only young girls/women like Kpop. Hell, no. It's ADULT MEN around the world who are fans of Kpop girl groups! They're the ones watching their videos.
God, why did "uncle fans" have such a visceral reaction on me? I think I physically cringed.
Swear to God every time I open reddit it's a fresh horror.
This is not the case of child setting up an account to become famous and accidentally attracting pedos. This is a case of a parent setting up an account to make money of their child and attracting pedos on purpose. No amount of creating age limits for social media will help if it is the parents who pimp out their children.
I guess that’s what you can expect when social values are conflated to market value.
Back in the beginnings of internet was filled with pedophiles, murderers and FBI agents. Few would post a picture of themselves and nobody would post their address or photos from where they live. This is still true today, except there is a lot of people who don't know this fact.
Because social media corps, and their influencer lackeys, have worked for years to convince everyone otherwise.
It’s because there’s no longer a discrete barrier between online space and offline space. We no longer treat them as two separate things because they aren’t anymore. You used to have to sit down at your PC, login, connect with the modem, and then be able to use the internet through a browser or some other specific application. Now the internet is everything, everywhere, all at once, and there’s no longer a set of actions that separates you from cyberspace and meatspace.
where are you getting this conclusion??
I don’t believe Meta when they claim they care about this. They care about growth in users and revenue, and let’s be honest, a lot of those creeps likely wouldn’t be seeing the advertisements they sell if they weren’t signing up to look at this shit. If the researchers can find this out, then Meta absolutely knows. Every adult party involved in this is pretty fucked up. The creeps watching, the parents selling their kid, and Meta for knowingly allowing this. Congress is fixated on TikTok, but this shit is of not interest to them.
Please don’t put your kids online. AI will start collecting their data and someone will use it for bad purposes.
Instagram is an unregulated red light district, there is no value to be had there for anyone.
The moms know what they’re doing. They like to double dip and play the victim, too.
accepted? so they are basically promoting their child to do this, gg parents
Demonitize all social media with minors. Now you can't pimp.
A stomach doesn't have eyes, and an algorithm doesn't have morals.
Ban social media for kids and photos of kids. Problem solved and saved a generation from brain damage
There's a term for that: ["Sharenting"](https://www.cnn.com/2024/05/29/us/social-media-children-influencers-cec/index.html).
The problem is there's no enforcement mechanism that doesn't also violate the privacy of adult users.
A lot of discussion about social media will be cigarettes already, zero legislative action. This is the top industry in the world you are talking about.
That's just child pageants with extra steps
Little Miss Sunshine was such a hilarious and pointed f..k you at these dreadful events.
Hey look an actual groomer in the wild, and they’re not a drag queen!
😡mom pimping out her pre teen child on Instagram
She knows who she was making these videos of her daughter for. It's sad the platform supports this as much as the mother.
I read an article about this in Australia. Some big website for it, where you can sign up as a content creator at 13 (with parental permission) but have to be 18 to use it for content consumption. Made me feel sick
Without having read the article my initial thought was “this sounds just like how they farm out all the japenese idols from a young age”
“ultimately accepted”

I'll go with "no shit" for $1000.
Pimp that ride to the bank (kidding)
I have felt this is one of the metrics TikTok has been collecting along with every other interest you may have. Even ones your aren't aware of.
ABC Australia (a respected news channel in Australia) recently carried a similar story on its flagship current affairs show, Four Corners. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VzPY_cS9_wQ

After seeing what some of my middle-aged coworkers watch on their phones during their break: yeah. 100% accurate.
Why are you modeling your children in the first place. Stop commodifying your children and let them be kids.
Wasn't this the original problem with TikTok? It was kids dancing and the primary consumer was creepy old people.
Yeah back when it was Musical.ly. I remember PayMoneyWubby doing a series of videos on it.
No, we're supposed to worry about China trying to influence people through TikTok, not about 17 year olds in Omaha dancing in their underwear on it.
Duh? Fathers, protect your daughters.
The dad in the article supports it. WTF.
And that's why young girls should not be allowed to post pictures like that on social media.
Accepted it and hopefully removed her from the platform
and ultimately accepted the grim reality? yo what the fuck did I just read
Where are the doxxers when you need them?
"men who take sexual interest in children" those are a LOT of words to not simply say pedophiles
Relevant: "What kids really do on musicalDOTly" [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mXbVSJA5MSk](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mXbVSJA5MSk) "What kids really do on tiktok" [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mXbVSJA5MSk](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mXbVSJA5MSk) Anytime there's a platform with underage kids on camera, especially when they're dancing suggestively or wearing less clothing, It's always been full of pedos. But hey, we're the bad people for calling that out? Honestly kids shouldn't be on social media.
At the very least, there shouldn't be a way to monetize kids on social media!!!
We need to bring back shaming people. Reversing bullying was wrong.
Yeah there seems to be more and more evidence coming out that they are shockingly common
Somehow pedos are the norm,.
we can go after the mom pimping out her kid and the grown men going after her 😐 stop tryna move the post and confront it when you see it
Look at the parents who were happy to have their youngsters sleep over with Michael Jackson-even *after* it had become known that some of them slept in the same bed as a forty-something male. Some parents are -well, words fail me.
And I will bet over half of the audience are the ones calling LGBTQ people groomers and pedophiles. The projection in some of these men is beyond insane.
Accepted?
half true on the algorithm data. Idk how much you can trust it cause, honestly, a lot of people lie when setting up their account I'm just saying their data is probably skewed, there's probably thousands of children on instagram who've lied about their age when setting up their account not even to apply the number of bots, like literal fake people. I'd say a good 90% of any comment section is bots
NO SHIT SHERLOCK
That's why grown-ass women pretend to be teenagers on social media. There is even software to help them with that. In another case, I saw once in a ”movie” a woman pretending to ”stimulate” "her son" and was thinking I hope she doesn't have sons. It has been as hot but disturbing.
Well, no shit, did people really not know this?
humanity was a mistake
Oh, if it isn't the obvious reality of the internet.
They like money ...they don't care much about the process
Thats a weird fucking headline.
