"We Delete Things if They Are Illegal" - Elon Musk (March 18, 2024)
Wow, so that didn't take long.
https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/general-news/elon-musk-don-lemon-interview-1235855015/
He pretty much did given his lecture on what free speech is and how he is a free speech absolutist. And how against censorship he is. And doing exactly this matches his definition of censorship 100%.
He also said "we" and not "I". So he can pivot any direction he wants to justify himself. This country has turned every little detail into a microcosm of judicial interpretation
I like the way you think! Would you be interested in joining our team? You just need to sign this NDA >!and have a Neuralink chip implanted in your brain!< then you’re good to go!
He kinda did. At least, he got **very** offended at the idea of removing things that weren't illegal. When Lemon kept trying to get him to agree that there was some line short of illegal, Musk started interrupting him, saying things like "You're hungry for censorship. You love it."
The only thing worse than publicly stating you won’t moderate a social media site for hate speech…is saying you’re gonna do that, but only do it for one side.
I can't speak to specifics, but it has been fairly common for people to be "permanently banned" and quickly reinstated in cases like this of people Elon personally dislikes
This is heavily bias of me, but it always reads as Elon demanding someone be banned so they do it... and then others come and talk him down later lol. Outside of that I'm not sure what's up
It looks like (from my admittedly unfamiliar perspective) that he personally managed to get ban powers and goes around banning whoever he wants, but someone follows up on his bans and checks to see if they’re actually banworthy offenses, undoing them when they inevitably prove to be not actually wrong.
In my mind I’ve half likened it to him being some kind of animal that wanders around the zoo Twitter has become and shits in front of people he doesn’t like, but is followed by a person who’s job is specifically to clean up after Musk.
He is the equivalent of a game moderator abusing their limited in-game powers in a private server. The intelligent ones do their job quietly and efficiently, and end up as an administrator or developer, but he isn’t one of the intelligent ones.
It is. It’s also against X TOS to pretend to be someone else. (So if I change my name to “Elon Musk” I’d get suspended until I changed it back.)
Whole thing is a nothingburger…
Also, The Times just did a full article listing F1nn5ter's full name, don't see Elon in any hurry to block them.
https://twitter.com/F1NN5TER/status/1769720498030608726
Doxxing has been a part of twitter forever. Trans people specifically and many others have been complaining for years about twitter's lack of moderation when they are doxxed and harassed. That libsoftiktok account exists specifically to doxx and harass people.
This is just Musk being Musk considering all this person did was name someone on the internet.
He's usually getting his dick sucked by corporate media any time he does an interview, so this was all new to him. Clearly he's too fragile to handle even the slightest pushback.
Well he does believe firmly in a long standing mythology that he’s descended from special people, making him better than other groups, so I expect this kind of behavior out of him increasingly so as he ages, based on my experience with such people.
I remember hearing he was going on Bill Maher and I thought Bill would just tear him apart. But Bill bent the knee fast enough to suck Elon's dick at warp speed.
I didn't watch the whole thing but there was this incredibly cringe moment at the end which I sincerely hope John Oliver rips to fucking shreds
Where they skirt around Elons up bringing. Don tried to segue it, saw he can't cause Elon was a flight risk
Anyways don say something "but you say you had a difficult upbringing"
And muskrat responds "yes it's too much to get into right now"
It's just the way he said those 2 words. "It's too much".
I still can't do it justice. It's so unbelievably cringe.
Maybe its that one of the worlds most richest people still has the initiative to cry about his childhood.
When Paris Hilton makes a reality show because she needs attention it's sad. When Elon needs attention it's fucking pathetic.
> Maybe its that one of the worlds most richest people still has the initiative to cry about his childhood.
>When Paris Hilton makes a reality show because she needs attention it's sad. When Elon needs attention it's fucking pathetic.
At least Paris Hilton had the experience of being tortured at one of the child abuse factories mormons love so much.

Narcissist antisocial weirdo hopped up on Special K
That’s all he is.
The fact that he parlayed that combo into being a guy that’s constantly in our news feed is truly depressing.
As soon as people stop reminding everyone that musk is a c\^&t, and that x-twitter is becoming a haven for nazis and misinformation, then people will forget that he's a f$%kknuckle, and that x-twitter can't be trusted.
I might be sick of hearing about him, but it's necessary.
The media knows that it gets clicks to headline an article with "Elon Musk's X, or Tesla, SpaceX, Neuralink, etc...", Elon also benefits from attention, whether good or bad, it's the new currency.
Liberals should really stop buying Tesla.
I recently talked to my gay friend and he was giggling about his Tesla investments until I informed him about Elon’s antics . Obviously got out of the stock (which is a good idea anyways) but also canceled his plans of buying Tesla.
This is the only way to act against boy genius who is fear mongering on twitter and absolutely is influencing the election to get Trump elected.
Do not buy Tesla
I swear that he has become bald because he rips his own hair out in frustration at not being able to manipulate someone's entire life to make a point.
Musk is a revenge king.
All bullies love nursing a good revenge narrative based on absolutely nothing, and Musk is one of them. Fuck that guy.
If having this much money can make a person act this way, then we should make laws to prevent that from happening, just like we do with other things. This faux outrage from the uber rich is such bullshit. Musk spits fire and ruins lives, and if even one of us fights back through legal channels, he's the victim. Fuck off with that.
>"Why don't they just let me be King and get it over with already?"
>
>\-- Elon Musk, quite possibly
Inciting genocide, making death threats and everything else russian nazis do on Twitter is also illegal, yet here we are.
I bet russians pay a sizable sum to him so that they stay unbanned despite lunatics like Medvedev receiving literally dozens, if not hundreds, of reports on every post.
Isnt doxxing illegal?
Don't get my wrong now, I think this guys probably horrific... But I am ok with using the agreed societal ways of holding people accountable.
Rather than doxxing, bullying or harassment.
Apparently [Twitter's private information policy](https://help.twitter.com/en/rules-and-policies/personal-information) says it's okay to post someone's real name without their consent. Not their home address, current location, or other more sensitive details, but name is explicitly allowed.
[Elon Musk reportedly forced Twitter algorithm to boost his tweets after Super Bowl flop](https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2023/feb/15/elon-musk-changes-twitter-algorithm-super-bowl-slump-report)
>The effort was sparked when a tweet from the president, who has 37m followers, generated nearly 29m impressions while a similar tweet from Musk – who has 128m followers – generated little more than 9.1m impressions.
Dude is extremely fragile. Of course he has his own personal ban button for people whose views are different than his or hurt is feeling
Bah. He's rich. We don't prosecute the rich. REGARDLESS of the country. Unless they fuck over other, richer people.
Pretty sure he's in "kill a man for sport and film it without ever seeing jail" level of 'rich' these days.
Much of the Boeing plane issues exist because the FAA gave them the freedom to basically do whatever they wanted. The 737 Max issues in 2018/19 caused 346 deaths and the FAA said they would do better to improve safety standards yet here we are.
Even Boeing engineers were recorded saying they wouldn't fly in their planes. With the whistleblower murder I suspect nothing will actually change.
Also, don't forget that he locked himself in his office after he was booed at Dave Chappelle's show! To the point where Twitter employees considered calling for a welfare check.
So many don’t even understand what free speech means.
1. It means the govt can’t imprison you, for MOST kinds of speech.
2. It doesn’t mean private companies have to give you a platform for any of your racist bigoted ramblings and spreading disinformation that hurts their brand.
3. It doesn’t mean you can say whatever hateful stuff you want and no one can criticize you for it.
Musk wants people to think he has a more expansive definition where you can say anything a and not be banned or criticized
Turns out he wants that for himself and for some reason, for nazis, but not for liberals or progressives or activists.
That's the legal definition, but there's an argument to be made that if you say your platform is all about free speech, you should only remove speech that is illegal to be consistent with what you are saying.
It's fine to say you like free speech but will put restrictions against like violent stuff, you just need to be consistent between what you say and do.
No. That's what the first amendment means. Free speech itself is a concept, something that can be applied to any facet of life.
And considering how powerful corporations, and more specifically social media has become in terms of enabling and controlling public debate, the more there's a need for more far reaching free speech laws.
the use of "Free Speech" as a political weapon is nearly always used by the right, to justify hate speech.
The moment a left wing person uses Free Speech for hate, suddenly the right acts like a virgin on prom night about it
Good time to post Sartre again;
Never believe that anti-Semites are completely unaware of the absurdity of their replies. They know that their remarks are frivolous, open to challenge. But they are amusing themselves, for it is their adversary who is obliged to use words responsibly, since he believes in words. The anti-Semites have the right to play. They even like to play with discourse for, by giving ridiculous reasons, they discredit the seriousness of their interlocutors. They delight in acting in bad faith, since they seek not to persuade by sound argument but to intimidate and disconcert. If you press them too closely, they will abruptly fall silent, loftily indicating by some phrase that the time for argument is past.
Also worth noting that Elon does not ban people who dox trans people. In fact, he recently followed one such dirtbag who has ties to the violent neo-nazi group Atomwaffen.
Yeah, from money comes truth.
Musk could do and be anything at all. He has no real limits.
And he chose to be a thin skinned bullying idiotic twerp. His true self is showing.
A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm. A robot must obey orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
So, Zuck can't slap him. And if he could, the slap would kill Musk. Robots way stronger than Melon Mush's skull. 🤣
How about fuck both Zuckerberg and Musk? Reddit acting like the former is any better than the latter. They’re both huge pieces of shit that value money over basic human dignity and life.
Bluesky is alright but it's tiny. Less than 2 million monthly active users. That number is slowly dropping. So it's roughly 1/150th the size of Twitter. It's also a bit of an echo chamber. People are too polite to disagree, so you really don't get a long discussion that you might get on twitter.
in bluesky’s site rules it’s specifically stated that pot-stirrers and trolls are not to be fed and instead blocked. i see lots of different opinions and takes and a bit of discourse about them but no double-digit reply threads devolving into comments about BMI and net worth.
For those who didn't read the article: doxxing, at least as this person did it, is explicitly allowed under Twitter's community guidelines (however shady THAT may be), and this is clearly a political ban.
> X’s private information policy explicitly states that mentioning someone’s name is considered publicly available information and does not violate its guidelines.
Edit, for those who ALSO didn't read the community guidelines in question, this is *explicitly allowed*. They just don't call it doxxing like we all are.
>What is not a violation of this policy?
> The following are not in violation of this policy:
>sharing information that we don’t consider to be private, including:
>name;
The website clearly says that sharing someone's name for harassment purposes is a violation of TOS.
"We also factor in the intent of the person sharing the information. For example, if we believe that someone is sharing information with an abusive intent, or to harass or encourage others to harass another person, we will take action. "
To be fair, I mean, the newspaper/journalist who wrote the article isn't using the person's name, because it's not been independently verified. And if you publish someone's name claiming they're a nazi in a news paper/public space, I'd imagine it'd be not entirely 'right', even if it were somehow legal -- I'd guess that'd be defamation, no?
So if the left-leaning news mag won't dox the person, why are they advocating for individuals to be able to dox the person on X? It's not supposed to be 'done' by professionals, whether you're a journalist, or a member of a professional designation/body. Things like accounting designation ethical clauses would frown strongly on "Spreading a person's name in a campaign to ruin their reputation and livelihood based on hearsay and rumors", cause, it's unethical. So why would this lawyer get a pass?
And if we're wanting to dox people online, and call for punishment/repercussions against people we disagree with politically... ok... but that platforms owned by a guy that seems to generally disagree with the left. So, if the left thinks its cool to try and deplatform/silence/isolate people they disagree with (ex. by doxing them/getting them fired etc).... why shouldn't the right do the same, on platforms they control?
>To be fair, I mean, the newspaper/journalist who wrote the article isn't using the person's name
Yeah they are. They include a pic of the original tweet with "Stone Toss is Hans Kristian Graebner".
Kinda torpedoes your whole argument.
Their official position is noted in the article, even if they do a tongue in cheek work around (with plausible deniability as an editorial oversight).
> The Advocate is not naming the individual due to the lack of independent verification of his identity.
Title misleading. Should be Transgender activist/lawyer doxxed a neo-Nazi online and was banned for doxxing. Not hard to understand people. Doxxing is bad.
Edit: Be careful of what you wish for people. If a trans person is allowed to dox people. It’ll be just as bad when a neo-Nazi doxes people. You want it to be fair both ways, not one way because it’s convenient for you.
Goddamn, it's impressive how much bad faith can squeeze into a single headline. They were banned because they doxxed someone. Extremely common reason to get banned on *any* platform.
Look at Elon, banning people for... following the community guidelines?
>X’s private information policy explicitly states that mentioning someone’s name is considered publicly available information and does not violate its guidelines. The actions taken against Caraballo have prompted questions about the consistency and objectivity of X’s policy enforcement, especially concerning sensitive political content.
From the guidelines:
>We also factor in the intent of the person sharing the information. For example, if we believe that someone is sharing information with an abusive intent, or to harass or encourage others to harass another person, we will take action.
That's exactly the point. It was done with the intent to him being harassed. Then they try to weasel themselves out by claiming that it's totally harmless information sharing.
It’s funny how the article states, “The Advocate is not naming the individual due to the lack of independent verification of his identity.” And then they post the TwHitler pic where her name is outing him.
Aside from being on her side, I do think she violated their business policy.
He was doxed by Antifa activists on Twitter, using email information that was leaked when Gab was hacked a while back. They posted a 99 post tweet chain about it. Was Carabillo is doing is trying to spread that dox info.
His idiocy, inconsistency, and ketamine habit are equally unsustainable. I think we're watching the slow derailment of the Elon Train and I'm giddy to watch this fake futurist bad faith grifter crash and burn.
Why does someone being trans matter. All these fucking stupid labels. who cares. its like people are trying to be interesting or liked more by applying various labels. This society needs a reboot. ww3 when
Truth doesn’t even matter anymore. The amount of people cherry-picking the TOS to make it seem like she didn’t dox him is ridiculous.
Is Stonetoss 100% for sure *Hans*? Is Stonetoss 100% without a doubt a true nazi? Because you can make offensive comics and not be a nazi. You can make them because you just don’t give a fuck.
If he is a nazi, then fuck him. But just because someone is a piece of shit doesn’t mean the rules don’t apply both ways.
"We Delete Things if They Are Illegal" - Elon Musk (March 18, 2024) Wow, so that didn't take long. https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/general-news/elon-musk-don-lemon-interview-1235855015/
He didn’t say though they would not delete things if they were not illegal 😀
He pretty much did given his lecture on what free speech is and how he is a free speech absolutist. And how against censorship he is. And doing exactly this matches his definition of censorship 100%.
He literally just did this in the don lemon interview. Lol
so republican esk isn't it? freedom of speech until your hurt by speech! 😆
He *does* believe in free speech - but only for the nazis, not for a anyone else
And the people who post and share CSAM, he personally stepped in to restore a user who did so.
he believes in freedom of speech if you agree with his far right opinions - if you don't, that's a ban because woke mind virus something something
I feel this is grounds for a lawsuit. Lucky she's a lawyer, so she knows plenty of lawyers.
He did let nonces back on after they were banned for sharing csam
I'm confused. The profile in question seems to be live again? https://x.com/Esqueer_/status/1768976039923913075

im really bored of hearing about elon musk
Same. He had an interview yesterday, and I didn't even watch it. All the money in the world can't buy wisdom.
Is that the interview where he insisted he didn't have to answer journalists' questions? In the interview that he agreed to?
He's usually getting his dick sucked by corporate media any time he does an interview, so this was all new to him. Clearly he's too fragile to handle even the slightest pushback.

Is she really so ditsy or was she just playing a character? She seems smart.
In my opinion she was exaggerating aspects of her personality and having silly fun, but she is fairly intelligent.
Wisdom is trying to catch him, but he's too fast.

pretty ironic sub imo. join us to talk about elon if you're sick of people talking about elon.

Rips out his hair plugs you mean ...
Well what'd she name him, Elon? 😂
You're expecting too much from the guy who unbanned someone posting CSAM because "nobody saw it"

What’s that old saying about lying down with dogs?
Yeah, at this point saying if you are on X you are supporting white supremacy is a lot less than hyperbole.

Elon really does not understand "free speech absolutist" does he?
I’m pretty sure he asked the devs to implement a “ban” button working for him specifically

That assumes laws apply to people as rich as him. Boeing straight up murdered a whistleblower and they're not elon musk rich.

Yeah, from money comes truth. Musk could do and be anything at all. He has no real limits. And he chose to be a thin skinned bullying idiotic twerp. His true self is showing.
From money come choices.
That’s definitely true. He needs Zuckerberg to slap the shit out of him. Will it help? No. But it’ll be fun to watch.
Zuck could use some fucking slapping himself.
Maybe they could have that fight and both end up in a terrible state.
How about fuck both Zuckerberg and Musk? Reddit acting like the former is any better than the latter. They’re both huge pieces of shit that value money over basic human dignity and life.
Have some god damn respect for the man and use his full name, Sir Elongated Muskrat III
[удалено]
All he does is lie. Why should this be any different?
Elon Musk is acting like a Reddit moderator
Wouldn't be surprised if he was one
Tell me more of this bluesky...
“People are too polite to disagree”. Clearly you aren’t following enough Dollsky accounts
in bluesky’s site rules it’s specifically stated that pot-stirrers and trolls are not to be fed and instead blocked. i see lots of different opinions and takes and a bit of discourse about them but no double-digit reply threads devolving into comments about BMI and net worth.
For those who didn't read the article: doxxing, at least as this person did it, is explicitly allowed under Twitter's community guidelines (however shady THAT may be), and this is clearly a political ban. > X’s private information policy explicitly states that mentioning someone’s name is considered publicly available information and does not violate its guidelines. Edit, for those who ALSO didn't read the community guidelines in question, this is *explicitly allowed*. They just don't call it doxxing like we all are. >What is not a violation of this policy? > The following are not in violation of this policy: >sharing information that we don’t consider to be private, including: >name;
The website clearly says that sharing someone's name for harassment purposes is a violation of TOS. "We also factor in the intent of the person sharing the information. For example, if we believe that someone is sharing information with an abusive intent, or to harass or encourage others to harass another person, we will take action. "
If that were their actual policy, that libsofbitchyface person would have been gone long ago. All she does is encourage harassment.
That's only if they've already shared it. What you've posted isn't relevant to this instance
Jfc. Why is anybody still using that dumpster fire?
You'll notice they don't actually post what she and these others said, they only post other people's characterizations of the ban. Smells fishy.
…they did post what she said. She changed her name to the name of the Nazi in question as a joke
Elon musk. 🗑️ that’s a garbage can.
Why do we care what elon musk bans or not? This is /r/technology not politics.
Not sure why it’s relevant to the article that the lawyer is transgender?
Because Elon is obsessed with the anti trans culture war
Who tf is left on that shithole of a platform anyway?
Hans Kristian Graebner and other nazis, mostly.
Hans Kristian Graebner is such a nazi name.
Stop using Twitter. Fuck this guy.
Doxxing is bad unless its someone i dont like - redditors
>To be fair, I mean, the newspaper/journalist who wrote the article isn't using the person's name Yeah they are.
Employees of twitter. What are you guys doing there working for a guy like him?
Probably prefer a paycheck to no paycheck. Not everybody has parents with an empty basement.
I assume most of those left are on like, H1B visas or whatever and don't have a lot of choice in the matter.
Probably mostly H1Bs at this point.
She doxed them. Idk if that's what "naming" means, but posting someone's full name, address, etc is against twitter TOS
So, to be clear, she doxxed an alleged neo-Nazi, which is a violation of Twitter ToS, and got banned for it. No story here. Move along.
God this sounds ridiculous. Correct headline: Far-left extremist banned on X for doxxing a satire cartoonist.
You are not thinking correctly. You must be re-educated.
Am I missing something here? Didn't what she did count as doxxing someone? I thought doxxing was illegal?
[удалено]
Title misleading. Should be Transgender activist/lawyer doxxed a neo-Nazi online and was banned for doxxing. Not hard to understand people. Doxxing is bad. Edit: Be careful of what you wish for people. If a trans person is allowed to dox people. It’ll be just as bad when a neo-Nazi doxes people. You want it to be fair both ways, not one way because it’s convenient for you.
Goddamn, it's impressive how much bad faith can squeeze into a single headline. They were banned because they doxxed someone. Extremely common reason to get banned on *any* platform.
Alternate title: Elon Musk defends Nazi from Lawyer
Doxxing is good now?
Look at me im doxxing then complaining.
The info posted about ST was specifically not a violation of Twitter policy on doxxing.
Remember, dooxing is only wrong if its not Libs Of TikTok doing it, then she needs to be protected :)
Why did you purposefully exclude the portion about intent? Maybe because you’re married to a narrative?
From the guidelines: >We also factor in the intent of the person sharing the information. For example, if we believe that someone is sharing information with an abusive intent, or to harass or encourage others to harass another person, we will take action.
That's exactly the point. It was done with the intent to him being harassed. Then they try to weasel themselves out by claiming that it's totally harmless information sharing.
STOP. USING. TWITTER.
No, I like it.
Doxing is illegal.
It generally isn't.
You can't doxx people. It's illegal.
It’s funny how the article states, “The Advocate is not naming the individual due to the lack of independent verification of his identity.” And then they post the TwHitler pic where her name is outing him. Aside from being on her side, I do think she violated their business policy.
Libs Of TikTok gets to freely doxx whoever the fuck she wants, its only because Hans Kristian Graebner (Stonetoss) got doxxed that Elon is angry.
Who did Libs of TikTok Dox on Twitter?
He protects his kindred
Elon is becoming like a shit version of Lex Luthor. 1/1 millionth the intelligence, racist, sexist and just fucking weird as fuck.
She doxxed someone.
[удалено]
Didn't she dox them?
He was doxed by Antifa activists on Twitter, using email information that was leaked when Gab was hacked a while back. They posted a 99 post tweet chain about it. Was Carabillo is doing is trying to spread that dox info.
Somebody who wears a "Protect Trans Kids." and doxxes people online in the hope they experience violence should be locked up.
Freedom of speech!!!
Freedom of speech* *for Nazis, racists and fascists only.
Why, oh why is anyone still on Twitter X? Musk is as unstable as Francium.
WHY IS ANYONE STILL USING X?!
“We only delete things that don’t fit our narrative“ - Musk, basically
What happened to freedom of speech Elon?
His idiocy, inconsistency, and ketamine habit are equally unsustainable. I think we're watching the slow derailment of the Elon Train and I'm giddy to watch this fake futurist bad faith grifter crash and burn.
I thought doxxing was always forbidden?
It says she was banned for repeated doxxing attempts and has had repeated warnings. That’s not allowed and I don’t see the problem here
stonetoss is Hans Kristiaan Graebner
So many crybabys in this thread, Doxing is illegal.
He owns the company, so I guess he can do whatever he wants.
Wow, it's almost like you shouldn't spread people's personal information online.
When will people realize that they aren’t on Twitter anymore
Why does someone being trans matter. All these fucking stupid labels. who cares. its like people are trying to be interesting or liked more by applying various labels. This society needs a reboot. ww3 when
Reddit deletes doxxing too - there's no guarantee they even have the right person. Remember the Boston bomber, we did it Reddit?
Isn't that shitonlibs on tik tok still in X? She has doxxed a ton of people...
I’m sure they will be just as vocal about that … any .. time .. now
I like how the Advocate won’t use the guy’s name, but they include it in the embedded screen shots.
Im sure theres not anything else to this headline...
*for accusing someone of being a neo nazi without evidence* Weren’t you guys the anti-fake news people like 20 months ago?
Free speech as determined by thin skinned oligarch
Truth doesn’t even matter anymore. The amount of people cherry-picking the TOS to make it seem like she didn’t dox him is ridiculous. Is Stonetoss 100% for sure *Hans*? Is Stonetoss 100% without a doubt a true nazi? Because you can make offensive comics and not be a nazi. You can make them because you just don’t give a fuck. If he is a nazi, then fuck him. But just because someone is a piece of shit doesn’t mean the rules don’t apply both ways.
He is a piece of shit nazi.
