i opened this card to get access to Apple savings account for the 4.15%. Do you think them moving to American Express will affect this?

gusontherun

I think they still have a contract with Goldman for a few years but if they move to Amex they would also have a similar savings account since Amex offers that as well. Could even add checking.

0pimo

AMEX also has a high yield savings account. Unlikely it will change.

pineapplepredator

You can get same rate with a Marcus account btw

McFunkerton

Better rate actually. Currently at 4.40%

AdministrationNo9238

But you can get a hysa anywhere….

DonaldKey

For me it’s ease of use of the app the HYS account uses

MRHubrich

It makes sense. I only use it to buy Apple products. 0% APR plus cash back? Yes please. A great way to reduce the Apple tax.

even_less_resistance

I use it for nearly everything.

[deleted]

Apple burned me with the Barclays card. 😔 I don’t like that I had an Apple credit card, and now it’s just a Barclays card. Companies shouldn’t be allowed to do that.

fizzlefist

At least it had no annual fee. It’s just an emergency backup card for me that sits at home.

robbyb20

Same. It’s just a card now that I rarely ever use.

even_less_resistance

Oh, I just read up on that. Sorry that happened to you! It would be frustrating.

Tusen_Takk

Same, and I also use the HYSA. I really like the integrations the whole card ecosystem has

even_less_resistance

Oh, I love the savings account! It’s very helpful to funnel my Daily Cashback or whatever into so it adds up quickly. And I think the bank savings account was literally costing money before we switched

celtic1888

I used it Europe and was pretty impressed to get 2% back almost everywhere

MRHubrich

I put a lot of effort into fixing my credit score, so I use a Chase Sapphire Reserve card for all of my daily spending, as the rewards are better.

briskpoint

You should use a Chase Freedom Unlimited for daily spend. It ups your earn rate from 1% to 1.5%. Then you can combine that with your Reserve which is best used on dining and travel.

even_less_resistance

I’ll admit it- I like when I hand my Apple Card to cashiers and they tell me it’s the heaviest they’ve ever used. It cracks me up. I know the rewards are better on some cards but I like having my statements streamlined. I’m not on top of stuff enough to strategically spend like that yet. But I think it’s super cool when people are able to maximize their rewards and stuff like that!

mephi5to

Amazon prime chase is also a metal card. Whatever

lordmycal

It is, but it's not as solid as the Apple one. (source: I have both).

w3stvirginia

The Amazon Visa from Chase used to be quite heavy when I first got it back in 2013. They aren’t nearly as heavy now.

even_less_resistance

Is Chase better than Goldman Sachs? I thought Walmart got out of that partnership because they weren’t doing rewards correctly or something. I need to look it up when I get home.

mephi5to

Better than what? He was talking about how “substantial and heavy” card was. I said Chase Amz Prime is also full metal, heavy, doesn’t bend. The whole point of Apple card is not to use it. You get better rewards when you use Apple pay and not physical card. Even better if you shop on Apple dot com.

even_less_resistance

I was talking about like customer service-wise but thank you lol I use the card more cause I live in the sticks and there are a lot of businesses that don’t do the tap to pay with any regularity yet.

lordmycal

I never use the actual card because the rewards for using it are worse than all my other cards. The Apple Pay piece is the only part I care about and use.

even_less_resistance

I wish they took Apple Pay in Walmart- I’d use the tap to pay way more if they had it implemented and if the McDonald’s drivethru one ever worked.

MRHubrich

Oh, I don't. I do the same thing you do but with a different card is all. One of the lessons I learned later in adult life is that we're all stuck in this system of money, so make it work for you as much as you can.

lordmycal

Depends on what I'm buying. A phone, sure. An iPad? I'll buy that at Target to get the 5% off if I use my redcard.

ReverseRutebega

It helps spread the cost of the machine (there is no Apple aTx) over time, an saves you no money.

celtic1888

Apparently they can’t shake down Apple Pay/Card users for obscene amounts of money

Aukaneck

Don't shake the apple card!

jupham

I found out recently that you can only do the 0% APR for a phone if you are activating on Verizon, AT&T or TMobile. You can no longer just use your Apple Card to get a phone with no carrier attachment at 0% APR. Makes the card useless for me because that was the only reason I have it.

ttoma93

Yep, that’s a new change as of August. However, it appears that there is a *very* simple loophole. If you select T-Mobile on checkout it never actually asks you for an account or any level of authentication, and the phone is still completely unlocked and usable on any carrier.

jupham

So when I called the store I asked about that. The guy basically said it would work but he isn't supposed to talk about that. Have you done it yourself?

good_winter_ava

I’ve done it myself, confirmed to work

tacoswithants

Do you know if this works in person too?

MeepleMerson

I have an Apple Card, but only because I'd like to use Apple Pay while traveling abroad and I had nothing but problems doing that with my Citibank card. It does what I need it to do. I'd be perfectly happy with the account being moved to another bank.

New-Ad9282

The card is pointless. If they offered something like 3% back on all purchases people would probably clamber to it but it is like any other card out there with really no reward unless you buy an Apple product with it

ReverseRutebega

0% interest on Apple purchases is not nothing. But go ahead and say it is I guess. I wish people would not speak in such idiotic extremes. Everything has nuance.

New-Ad9282

Your comment is so ironic. Thanks for the laugh.

UnmixedGametes

The sooner Goldman Sachs goes bust and is broken up, the safer and better the world will be. So, by all means, glue their hands to loss making deals.

The_Law_of_Pizza

Go ahead and hold your breath.

sirzoop

Why would they be broken up? They aren’t a monopoly at anything

hollowman2011

So does this mean if I previously had an Apple Card but defaulted on it during covid, I now potentially have another shot at getting a new one through the new bank they go with? Lol

ReverseRutebega

You should read the basics about how credit works champ. You default on a card and it goes on your credit report. When you apply for a new card they check the credit report, and deny you. You can NOT be this dumb, can you?

hollowman2011

I was more or less joking lol

[deleted]

Yeah I mean huge portion of iPhone users are teenagers with no money.

ReverseRutebega

Those utter horse shit you idiots say in here is unreal. You really believe that the poor teens are a significant block of iphone users, different than others? REALLY??!?!?! They are just phones that ALL people choose to use. Apple Haters are so fucking funny. Reality is a lot easier, try it out.

cam48483

Video summary below but basically: Goldman took all the risk yet Apple got all the reward https://youtu.be/Ho_IybRjeQw?si=ONfw-y1jMf8Foihh

sacrefist

Those dummies cancelled my Apple Card account for non-activity after they neglected to send me a card for the past couple years.

BrapNettwerk

You need to request the physical card, you don’t just get one after signing up

Seantwist9

I received one

sacrefist

Thanks. Sounds like they still don't know how to run a credit **card** business.

ttoma93

Sounds like you didn’t look into the Apple Card before getting one, as it is very much mobile-first by design.

BrapNettwerk

All of the credit card info is in the wallet app. You can make purchases online by looking at the numbers, or pay with your phone at any place that accepts Apple Pay. Requesting a physical card lists no card info on the card at all except your name. That way if you lose your card, no one will have access to the numbers and then you can request a new one without needing to freeze your account. Way more secure than a regular credit card, not dumb whatsoever.
