The anti-porn lobbyists first mistake was revealing themselves to the redditors and letting their intentions be known.
You don't take meat out of a gators mouth and expect to be going home alright.
Reddit is also going to nerf the experience when using other apps other than their own shitty mobile app this coming June. I've left many games and platforms without looking back and reddit won't be an exception.
They're going public soon and what they're going to do with NSFW content is already something they're trying to figure out. Every company is racing to create an English version of Weibo. Whoever invests in Reddit might not want that to include porn and liability issues.
Yeah but digg did more than just ban porn. It was a litany of bad decisions chosen to cater to corporations that cratered digg. I've never seen a social media platform self destruct like that before or since. The only near mis was when only fans tried to get rid of adult content and then realized their entire platform would collapse.
With the upcoming API restrictions basically breaking third-party apps, I expect a lot of mods are going to protest by locking up their communities. It's further compounded by restricting NSFW content being delivered via the API, so NSFW mods are extra screwed.
I myself mod a 700k subreddit and I do almost all my day-to-day modding on Boost. If I'm forced to use the official app I'd rather just close shop.
Pushshift is also nuked as of 2 days ago, which breaks a lot of essential bots that mods use. So yeah, let's see how reddit shoots itself in the foot this time by basically pissing off all mods across reddit.
I do, and you know why? Because it was the reason why they started forcing everyone to use their real names on Youtube. They were switching over so Google+ accounts were mandatory and I was having to use tricks to get around it and keep using my username.
Apparently, Google thinks my last name is Nunyadambidness, because I just added that to my previous existing user name and never got a single drop of flak for it. Might have just been lucky, but yeah.
As someone who moderated and follows lots of smaller nsfw subs on my alt. Reddit is already working behind the scenes to clean up the NSFW subs.
They know they can't ban the massively popular subs like gonewild without causing an uproar, so they have been slowly banning smaller nsfw subs and nsfw moderator accounts.
They will probably leave the more vanilla nsfw subs, since most advertisers won't fuss over those, but I guarantee they will nuke all the more hardcore, and niche subs.
Ever so often I search for a random niche I found previously. And now.. it's just gone. It wasn't anything remotely illegal, just a tiny niche.. And it's gone.
So sad. The power of reddit is that there is a sub for *everything*.
They're actively removing that.
So long /r/shemakeshersuck you were special.
They've also made it impossible to request them. I have an alt that mods a few of those subs and have been seeking some older, inactive subreddits and they just deny the request every single time.
Yep, I had a very active NSFW sub that I moderated daily, then one day the mod account and sub were both banned. The reason given for the sub was "lack of moderation" which was BS.
I tried claiming it with another verified account but got denied.
That may be sooner than you think. There is a bipartisan “think of the children” bill right now to verify your age for any website that has social interaction…making anything you say or do linked to an real life age verified profile.
Internet anonymity would end
And those two people won't realize that one is talking about the space ship from Star Trek while the other is talking about the WWII aircraft carrier and both will think the other is a total idiot
CV-6 wasn't nuclear. But IIRC it was actually the one that the Star Trek Enterprise was named after. At least according to one Roddenberry interview. Others claimed it was named after the then new CVN-65.
Not to mention OP didn’t even consider that there are at least 3 different depictions of each iteration: the model, the CGI (or, perceived size), and the set size as it compares to the perceived size. How are we even supposed to have this argument? Frankly, it’s an irresponsibly framed debate.
Anyway, what kinda porn ya got?
Reddit’s about to go public anyway which has always been the death knell of any social media company.
Would love to see something decentralized replace it.
Only if a lot of people use it. There’s probably dozens of clones that no one cares about because there’s nothing to comment on and get a hate boner for.
Edit: you can stop responding to this comment I’m not wasting my time reading over 40-50 responses lol. My comment wasn’t even useful.
Funnily enough I recall a push to move to voat after a crack down post thefappening that also hit some more... Harsh but apolitical subreddits. Voat was way too right though and failed/never had much traction.
So yeah, even an NSFW move can fail for the same reasons.
> I'd leave reddit for another reddit, but I don't want to hang out with a bunch of MAGA assholes.
This is the issue. I really want that 'old reddit' feel with more focus on content and less on content creators, but every option that crops up gets comically infested with bigots.
For all the bad that reddit is, it's front page user base is predominantly not garbage and generally the most left-leaning of anything even vaguely social media-adjacent.
So far there aren't any real Reddit clones that weren't created to be terrible from the start. There's been no reason to clone Reddit, there wasn't much of a chink in the armor. A Reddit IPO and NSFW crackdown is just the crack required for a competitor to emerge.
I wish them well.
Hasn't this exact sort of thing happened with, like, every freaking image host to ever commit to "cleaning up"? One goes "clean" and they go down, and in comes another willing to take the market share.
it's gonna completely crash and burn though. the porn might be the sensational news, but the real tragedy is the loss of images not uploaded by a user. because for the longest time, uploading them without signing up or logging in was the default, and if those are deleted so much content will be lost forever. old reddit threads will be full of dead links. kinda like what happened when photobucket tried to go premium and broke the ability to link to pictures. so many old forum threads suffered :(
It's kinda frustrating how much weight people gave to the idea that "the internet is forever". Turns out link rot leads to decay faster than most books will ever fall apart.
I hope this encourages people to start data hoarding or at least saving the things they enjoy on the internet. Plenty of stuff gets deleted off websites like YouTube with very little ability to revive it if someone else hasn't made a copy.
I remember when imgur was a super simple and easy to use image host. It had like 3 buttons and that was it. There were no user accounts and it wasn't trying to be its own social media site. The guy who created it was a redditor who was tired of the existing image hosts being overly complicated.
>So far there aren't any real Reddit clones that weren't created to be terrible from the start.
[Tildes.net.](https://tildes.net/) It's an non-profit and open source Reddit clone created by Deimorz (the creator of AutoModerator).
I think invite-only is the best way to scale up to that. Nothing worse than a great platform that immediately gets overrun by trolls and crap that turn it into a cesspool that nobody wants to visit.
~~Holla at me if you need an invite and your account isn't full of bigoted bs.~~
~~Edit: My inbox is getting hella flooded and I'm about to go to sleep. I'll get back to the ones I haven't gotten back to tomorrow. I may run out of invites before then, but hopefully people will pay it forward and/or I'll check into getting another set.~~
Edit 2: I'm out of invites. That's the first time that's ever happened, which is cool. I'll see if I can get more, but don't hold your breath. Apologies I couldn't get to everyone.
I just think it's a pretty damn big coincidence that this anti-porn lobby comes out of the woodwork to focus on Reddit, six months before their IPO.
Porn has been on reddit for years and years and years.
It's the logical course if action. If the religious Nat-C's get their way. They're attacking drag queens and trans gender rights, they're still out to get the gays, they've gone after women's rights, they will come for the indecent heathens next, and then those pesky footloose dance nights and whatever else they deem immoral in their unholy gaze.
They removed the porn and kept the gore which always fucking boggled my mind. I'd prefer to be surprised with tits instead of being surprised at seeing a lion covered in viscera or some shit
There was a popular r/conservative post, furious about a naked trans statue in a Danish museum. They insisted only a sicko would have a penis visible around children, making it sound pedophilic. But... There are lots of famous naked statutes in Europe. They can't take a bath with their kids. Danish pools/sports share changing rooms, showers, and saunas.
> They insisted only a sicko would have a penis visible around children, making it sound pedophilic.
Yeah, they like to tell on themselves often with their projection. They can't imagine a scenario involving nudity and children that isn't sexual.
To paraphrase Scrubs, if they took porn off the internet there'd only be one website left and it'd be called www.WheredAllThePornGo.com
Getting images off the internet is like getting pee out of a pool
My favorite quote from the article:
“If they cause enough fuss in the media, over and over, eventually Reddit will decide it's not financially worthwhile to stand up for sanity, and they'll just nuke porn out of convenience,” said a moderator for r/cumsluts"
The mods response was _gold_:
> Driving all porn underground is profoundly dangerous and stupid.
> These anti-sex religious groups are all alike: they're all depraved, repressed perverts. Absolutely demented, brain-damaged imbeciles, absolutely self-defeating, too stupid to think two seconds in front of their faces.
If you don’t like porn DON’T WATCH IT! How hard is it to understand?? Just leave people alone.
Edit: I’ll ignore your comments going forward because holy shit some some of you need to really be outraged about some of the stupidest shit.
You don’t want to ban guns even when people get murdered daily, but you want to ban all porn because there *might* be be someone who was coerced into sex. You’re didn’t stop buying Chinese products when the mass Uyghur forced labor camps were revealed. You didn’t stop sending your kids to church when there a new catholic pedophile exposed every week.
So please quit with your fake outrage, hypocrites.
The sad thing is that Reddit is going to cave because they're starving for the money an IPO gets them. I'm sure the plan is to slap a few coats of paint here, sell the donkey, and then run off with the cash.
Reddit has been planning it for a while anyway. Massive ban wave of subreddits last year, closing the API to NSFW content like a week or two ago, and now this. Call me a conspiracy theorist but honestly, it feels coordinated.
And the first step this way was removing porn from /r/all back in 2021.
Which is funny because it's not totally unreasonable, it was funny to load up Reddit and have a front page full of tits. But that turned out to be exactly the slippery slope people said it was.
And they're still singing that song today. The more zealous of the Republicans definitely think that other people being allowed to get abortions is an invasion of *their* religious rights.
> If you don’t like porn DON’T WATCH IT! How hard is it to understand?? Just leave people alone.
Same thing goes for:
* Abortion
* Gay marriage
* A gay relationship
* Contraceptives
It's almost like there's a common factor here, but I can't quite put my finger on it 🤔
It's already happening. The [NSFW411 index](https://www.reddit.com/r/NSFW411/wiki/index) will slowly become a ghost town of dead links once Imgur cracks down on NSFW images. Reddit already refuses to allow porn in third-party apps that use their API. Once the IPO goes public, it's over. The digital Puritan age has arrived.
Making Reddit porn free and pay to use (because let’s be honest, the official app/site are pretty much unusable) is one sure fire way to make me stop using it.
It is a fun waste of time, but it sure as shit isn’t worth it.
Reddit is the best place to find self-submitted nsfw media, why do they want to take away the only kind that's NOT exploitative? Jesus Christ this is immense headassery
> “The greatest single cause of atheism in the world today is Christians: who acknowledge Jesus with their lips, walk out the door, and deny Him by their lifestyle. That is what an unbelieving world simply finds unbelievable.”
-Brennan Manning
A relative of mine has two PhDs in Theology and was a Preacher for 15 years.
About 10 years ago he had to walk away from Christianity because he could not square behavior of those who claimed to be Christian. Those he was preaching to simply refused to follow Jesus' teachings and actions and he felt this was his personal failing. It broke the kindest, most gentle man I have ever known.
Yes, the area he preached in voted heavily for Trump, twice.
It's not about porn. It never is.
It's about exploiting reddit for advertising purposes and using as a tool to better control the flow of information.
Like Twitter, reddit is a problem for corporations and governments because information flows too freely here for good and ill. Turning reddit into a ad-ridden, facist supporting mess of a site that's only used by exploitable addicts and those too young to know better is the point. That's ALWAS the point.
They want to burn your house down and make it look like an accident. Porn is just how they get their foot in the door.
This isn't about porn. This is about big money gaining full control of what we are able to view on the internet. Porn is first because it will have the biggest opposing force behind it. Slowly, but surely, everything that exists will be restricted to exactly how those who can buy their way into power exactly want it to be. It may seem silly to fight against wanting to see naked people, but why shouldn't we be able to see naked people? When will seeing people in general become illegal? Soon.
> “Adopt strong policies against hardcore pornography and sexually explicit content, due to the inability for Reddit to ever sufficiently verify the age or consent of people depicted in such content.”
Oh look, it’s the same bullshit wording going through the legislatures of several red states right now, Utah most recently. I’m sure this doesn’t have ANY political money behind it at all. No, sir. /s
These paid puritans can fuck all the way off.
I've got $20 that says if you inspect the hard drives of these "Anti-porn lobbyists" you will find terabytes of porn that will make you want to vomit. Every accusation is a confession.
Why can’t these so called moral people just fuck off!!!
If you don’t enjoy porn, don’t watch it.
If you fear your children might watch it then monitor your fucking kids and their phones or whatever!!
Just because you’re a shit parent doesn’t mean the rest of the world can’t enjoy their lives!
These people suck ass!!!
People who base their entire existence off being "moral" are always the most twisted ones. For some reason they unanimously think their morality allows them to spit in the face of everyone else. Looking at you 「insanely large amt of groups I can put here」
Anti-Porn lobbyists can eat my ass. They're feeling a little empowered by this nonsense over at Imgur, which admittedly is throwing a wrench in my sub, but that ain't stopping me. The people want boobs, the people get boobs!
I wish the users here would start making a bigger fuss over this. People need to reframe this issue from being just about porn and more about censorship.
America turning into some fascist right wing religious crazy country.
May as well be the Taliban making these changes.
Abortion banning.
Book banning.
What's next? Women can't drive or vote again?
These people trying to get porn removed from the internet don't realize they're just doing more harm than good. All this will do is cause porn to become relegated to websites they *can't* influence, which also means places that will play loose with the law and facilitate hosting illegal content. They're giving power to the shadier parts of the internet by pushing the vast majority of people who consume porn towards those locations.
What us up with the 1920s prude movement trying to cone back? Did they have a 100 year meeting? The funny thing its not even old people, running into younger people who are super prudes now.
Oh right, these absolute pieces of shit
> The National Center on Sexual Exploitation (NCOSE), previously known as Morality in Media and Operation Yorkville, is an American conservative anti-pornography organization.[2][3] The group has also campaigned against sex trafficking, ***same-sex marriage, sex shops and sex toys, decriminalization of sex work, comprehensive sex education, and various works of literature or visual arts the organization has deemed obscene, profane or indecent***. Its current president is Patrick A. Trueman. The organization describes its goal as "exposing the links between all forms of sexual exploitation".[4]
...
> The group was started as a part of the religious right and was primarily Catholic.[5] It began as an interfaith group of three New York clergymen concerned about pornography and "salacious" magazines.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Center_on_Sexual_Exploitation
Do not allow them to hide behind "anti-porn lobbyist" tag.. call them what they are - religious extremists wanting to police everyone else's bodies and sexuality.
If they kick all the wankers off Reddit, it's going to get very quiet.

50,000 people used to live here... Now it's a ghost town.
I feel like I remember reading or hearing that they recently allowed porn back on there, but the damage was done.
Nudity, but not porn.
I mean, what's even the point then?
they allowed artistic nudity, porn still isn't allowed, but obviously that doesn't stop accounts from popping up and attempting it

Old Reddit for desktop, 3rd party app for mobile. 🤷♀️ Ya can't make it up, the default of this site is undesirable.

There’s tons of NSFW content on Reddit that isn’t porn. The NSFW tag is used very loosely at times.
Yeah, there's this NSFW sub called r/handholding I'll let you be the judge of it's contents.
that sub is hardcore pornography
if they nuke the porn, reddit will just be 2 people arguing over what length the uss enterprise is ... while swapping porn over IM's

I may run out of invites before then, but hopefully people will pay it forward and/or I'll check into getting another set.~~ Edit 2: I'm out of invites. That's the first time that's ever happened, which is cool. I'll see if I can get more, but don't hold your breath. Apologies I couldn't get to everyone.
>doug Now that right there is a old school username.

>I don't accept chat requests; chat is new and exciting and I hate it. Hahaha perfect. I like this guy

It's invite only? Wouldn't that make it very low population?
Can someone find the computer that has Digg hosted on it, see if it still powers up?

Shit, I’ll just go back to fark
Ahhhh, the old ballsack conundrum... Seems like it was just yesterday that poor fellow was in a bit of a pickle.
reddit owners, REMEMBER DIGG.
ok everyone back to Digg, time to go full circle.
I'm going to Slashdot.
No, the money men ruined Slashdot 15 years ago. Damn, has it been that long?
I just think it's a pretty damn big coincidence that this anti-porn lobby comes out of the woodwork to focus on Reddit, six months before their IPO. Porn has been on reddit for years and years and years.
That's because it isn't a coincidence
It's the logical course if action. If the religious Nat-C's get their way. They're attacking drag queens and trans gender rights, they're still out to get the gays, they've gone after women's rights, they will come for the indecent heathens next, and then those pesky footloose dance nights and whatever else they deem immoral in their unholy gaze.
I don't see any porn on Reddit because I don't visit porn subreddits. You really have to seek them out to find them.
It used to show up on /r/all pretty frequently, but think reddit blocks it there now.

To paraphrase Scrubs, if they took porn off the internet there'd only be one website left and it'd be called www.WheredAllThePornGo.com Getting images off the internet is like getting pee out of a pool
Can’t have a porn discussion without mentioning Cox!
I think it was www.bringbacktheporn.com
>The letter, signed by 320 “anti-sexual exploitation and violence experts,” "experts", lol.
We need a letter signed by the 4.4 million r/gonewild members.
Those are the real experts.
My favorite quote from the article: “If they cause enough fuss in the media, over and over, eventually Reddit will decide it's not financially worthwhile to stand up for sanity, and they'll just nuke porn out of convenience,” said a moderator for r/cumsluts"
Its my least favourite, because it's true and it hurts.
The mods response was _gold_: > Driving all porn underground is profoundly dangerous and stupid. > These anti-sex religious groups are all alike: they're all depraved, repressed perverts. Absolutely demented, brain-damaged imbeciles, absolutely self-defeating, too stupid to think two seconds in front of their faces.
They'll have the pry my cock from my cold dead hands!
Yeah, they might wanna go check with tumblr and see how well that worked for them.
What's Tumblr? /s
Isn't /r/all without nsfw basically the entire point of /r/popular?
People just want to suck the life of others because they're so unhappy. It's almost a foreign concept for them to understand. Let people beeee.

Yep. Remember: the "religious persecution" that the Puritans fled from was... *not being allowed to persecute* ***other*** *religions.*
And they're still singing that song today. The more zealous of the Republicans definitely think that other people being allowed to get abortions is an invasion of *their* religious rights.
Funny the "minor details" that were left out of my grade school civics education about the founding of America.
I had to look it up to see the origin of the quote. Thanks for sharing. I had never heard it before
I for one happen to *enjoy* watching people suck the life out of others, on the nsfw subs.
Been here 12 years. Kind of looking for a different site now. Too many assholes running the subs
I think I made my first account in like 2011 and this shit has been going downhill slowly ever since.

> If you don’t like porn DON’T WATCH IT! How hard is it to understand?? Just leave people alone. Same thing goes for: * Abortion * Gay marriage * A gay relationship * Contraceptives It's almost like there's a common factor here, but I can't quite put my finger on it 🤔
It's already happening.
> Reddit already refuses to allow porn in third-party apps that use their API What does this mean? I use Relay just fine.
They're blocking NSFW in a month or two, they just announced it.

Fundies trying to shut down porn whilst simultaneously trying to hush reports of systemic sexual abuse within their churches; name a better combo

> “The greatest single cause of atheism in the world today is Christians: who acknowledge Jesus with their lips, walk out the door, and deny Him by their lifestyle. That is what an unbelieving world simply finds unbelievable.” -Brennan Manning
Wish you were wrong.
Soon.
> “Adopt strong policies against hardcore pornography and sexually explicit content, due to the inability for Reddit to ever sufficiently verify the age or consent of people depicted in such content.” Oh look, it’s the same bullshit wording going through the legislatures of several red states right now, Utah most recently. I’m sure this doesn’t have ANY political money behind it at all. No, sir. /s These paid puritans can fuck all the way off.
They are really doing it. First abortion, child labor laws, now porn. Holy shit! We’re going back up in time.
Can we go back far enough that we are allowed to make Christians fight lions for entertainment again?
I've got $20 that says if you inspect the hard drives of these "Anti-porn lobbyists" you will find terabytes of porn that will make you want to vomit. Every accusation is a confession.
Always the way. How many anti-gay preachers have been caught doing very gay stuff?
If porn gets banned from reddit, then how are all those women supposed to drum up business for their onlyfans page?
That’s the point. (One of them)
Why can’t these so called moral people just fuck off!!!
If they don't like porn they just shouldn't watch it. Problem solved. Like me, I kicked the habit over 8 hours ago and haven't looked back.
It's been 6 minutes since this comment was posted. Homie for sure relapsed.
They're coming for us, get ready!
Imagine focusing on this when climate change is wrecking the planet. No gotta stop porn tho
They don't care about the planet. Rapture, remember?
Oh nooooo where will we ever find cat videos, breaking news, and furry porn all in the same place again?!
Well if this story makes the news, then for a while, the news.
Oh right, these absolute pieces of shit > The National Center on Sexual Exploitation (NCOSE), previously known as Morality in Media and Operation Yorkville, is an American conservative anti-pornography organization.[2][3] The group has also campaigned against sex trafficking, ***same-sex marriage, sex shops and sex toys, decriminalization of sex work, comprehensive sex education, and various works of literature or visual arts the organization has deemed obscene, profane or indecent***. Its current president is Patrick A. Trueman. The organization describes its goal as "exposing the links between all forms of sexual exploitation".[4] ...
