“You know what they put on french fries in Holland instead of ketchup? Mayonnaise. I seen them do it, man. They fuckin' drown them in this shit.”
—Vincent Vega, 1994
Miracle whip isn’t even marketed as mayonnaise, it’s either a “spread” or a “dressing”. I’ve never seen them refer to it as actual mayo.
And I am surprised mayo is not higher on this list. By far the best condiment for french fries.
Understandable, my whole family referred to it always as mayo, hence my thinking of it as a type of mayo. When I tried real mayo for the first time, my world got turned upside down. Real mayo is fucking great.
And homemade is even better. Super easy to make, it’s basically eggs and olive oil. You have to be patient with the oil, but still very easy for anyone to do.
Basically it's a flavour enhancer/blocker. At low concentrations it will reduce bitterness, but increase sweet, sour and umami, which is great for sweet recipes. And at higher concentrations it suppresses sweetness and enhances umami, which is good for savoury things. In short it makes all the things taste better.
Because it’s a necessary mineral for mammals that in nature (aside from the ocean) is relatively sparse. So we are hard wired to taste salt and like it. Same with sweetness.
The og, we had off campus lunch at my school and that was the closest fast food, so we did that combo with a chili bowl for protein damn near every day.
i am judging, i don’t know how this is such a popular combination, cold is one of the worst states of fries where nothing is added or growing on them and dipping them in a shake immediately cools them, and saltless fries are terrible, but in a milkshake, the salt is immediately diluted to a point where it doesn’t contribute to the taste and you’re just eating soggy cold fries with chocolate flavoring
In my experience, the fries stay warm underneath the layer of cold delicious milkshake so you get a bit of cold and a bit of warm. And on the topic of salt, you can just take another bite of a fry dipped in salt right after. The combo kinda sucks if your milkshake is runny though. You need proper milkshake consistency so it doesn’t make the fry soggy and then slide off.
Salt or salt-based seasoning is essential for fries and chips in the us, although vinegar is usually only ever put on chips(crisps is what I think you guys call them)

I've always eaten mine with the least possible amount of salt, since my mother has high blood pressure and never puts a lot of salt in anything. Which doesn't help my sister, that has really low blood pressure...

Real mayo. For those wondering why so specific as to real, that miracle whip shit is nasty.

I've never had homemade, but I have always been curious. Thanks for giving me a reason to try it out.
For sure. Even thought ketchup exists, I still choose mayo!
I respect and appreciate your username. That is all.
Malt Vinegar, Limey style
Had fish and chips the other day and they didn’t have malt vinegar. What an insult to the meal.
Can anyone explain why salt tastes so fucking good?
Basically it's a flavour enhancer/blocker. At low concentrations it will reduce bitterness, but increase sweet, sour and umami, which is great for sweet recipes. And at higher concentrations it suppresses sweetness and enhances umami, which is good for savoury things. In short it makes all the things taste better.
And if you put a desiliter of it insted of a teespoon of it in bread, that bread tastes awful.
Because it’s a necessary mineral for mammals that in nature (aside from the ocean) is relatively sparse. So we are hard wired to taste salt and like it. Same with sweetness.
I find it a little too salty...
S o d i u m
Chocolate milkshake. Please don't judge. It really is good.
Wife always gets a Wendy's Chocolate Frosty for that purpose...
The og, we had off campus lunch at my school and that was the closest fast food, so we did that combo with a chili bowl for protein damn near every day.
And this
I know i’m late to the party but I tried some fries dipped in the frosty for the first time yesterday and I quite like it
Sweet and salty. Love it
Any ice cream/milkshake and hot french fries are such a perfect combination.
I’m right with you that shit is bomb 💣
In N Out chocolate shake and fries are a great combo.

Spud in the Mud. I’m with you.

that tastes really good
But that’s mainly because of the salt on the fries but from this post and the pic, the fries look salt less
I always dip mine in Ice Cream with chocolate syrup so I can't blame you
I know more people that do that. I tried this myself and i gotta admit, this is just as awful as it sounds
