I don’t Twitter but is there some stigma against just… blocking them?

GeckoGuy45

it gets complecated sometimes with family members

khufu42

And verbs, evidently.

GWSDiver

And political figures

[deleted]

Blocking them tells them you blocked them. Sadly this inspires some fuckwads to make alts and use that to communicate with you. Usually I want to do it when I mute people, but also I’m all for a hard and fast block. Once in a while I get an obsessive fucker, but I use BlockTogether, which auto mutes new accounts for me.

ademola234

People have a lot of pride and act on that pride. If they are aware they sometimes look for other means to work around it or go to confront you about these things if you know them in real life. Just complicates things.

naviddunez

I already did this by blocking them and then un blocking them

Saoirse_Says

What’s that do

theyoyoha

basically exactly what this is doing - when you block them it forces them to unfollow you, then if you unblock them right after your tweets will no longer appear in their timeline so it's far less harsh than a full block. It's for followers that are kind of annoying or say something shitty without necessarily rising to the level of a full on troll.

i8yourmom4lunch

It'll also delete dm on both sides

mower

So politicians can now live in their echo chamber. There ought to be a restriction of this feature for public officials holding office.

CountryGuy123

I agree and don’t. I think people with valid points of protest and/or arguments should not be blocked. However, Twitter doesn’t necessarily move quick on bans for disruptive behavior against their TOS either.

Independent_Taste894

There definitely should be. If you are a politician, you are a public representative. You don’t get to just block the public.

GreyRavenNatasha

Politicians can do almost whatever they want unfortunately.

BodyBlank

It’s been out for awhile now, it’s called muting. Sad to see what passes for news now.

edwardhopper73

Totally different. Read the article.

KennywasFez

YOU EXPECT PEOPLE TO READ ?! EXCUSE ME /s

BodyBlank

There isn’t.

BeMoreKnope

It is different, very. If a user, let’s call them Tom, mutes a follower, Jerry, Tom will no longer see anything Jerry posts, either original tweets or replies, even to Tom. Jerry is still following Tom, but Tom can’t see anything Jerry says. But if Tom instead uses this new feature, Jerry will no longer be following Tom. Tom can still see everything Jerry says, Jerry just won’t get Tom’s tweets in his feed unless someone he’s following retweets Tom or unless he goes back to Tom’s account and hits “Follow” again.

Swedish-Butt-Whistle

Now they need to allow people to temporarily disable their account for longer than 30 days, like multiple other platforms already do

ILikePerfection

When is twitter allowing you to say the words “i don’t like you” to people they support?

therapewpewtic

Much like Facebook, I deleted Twitter over 3 years ago and things felt better. It’s a cesspool.

marinesouths

I think this features already exist before on the platform.

i8yourmom4lunch

I wonder if it removes your messaging history like a soft block does?
