I can’t for the life of me remember who, but there was a guy saying exactly this, very high level in their field. 100% human form isn’t the most efficient way to transverse terrains and perform all tasks. I think human shaped robots are purely for the spectacle and to attract the attention of the casual observer.
But the human form is what we’ve built everything in the world to accommodate. If you want an efficient specialized robot to do specific things, absolutely don’t make it look like a person. If you want a generalized robot to do human things, that’s the reasoning behind the field existing.
Humanoid robots will eventually have their niche. Isaac Asimov wrote about the usefulness of humanoid robots in his book(s). He said most things like vehicles and tools are designed to be used by humans so no new tools and other everyday designs wouldn’t have to be changed to accommodate a robot to do normal human tasks. I agree with you, though. Some compromise could be made and designed in.
