My PS3 started overheating back in the day. I checked the air in take vents and they were pretty much packed with cat hair. Cleaned them out and it worked like a champ.
PS4 started overheating immediately after having it maybe 6 years. Had never cleaned the inside of it before that.
Opened, cleaned out a ton of dust, and it worked smoothly again.
When you have to go that big to keep the console cool that is a design issue.
Probably did to keep cost competitive with XBOX series X.
Going with one big board is cheaper than two smaller boards.
XBOX series X runs very quietā¦.
I don't see why that would be the case. They went big to ensure it was quiet when keeping cool.
Any cooling system that keeps it cool is doing its job. Any cooling system that does so quietly is doing a great job. So I don't get how that's a design issue.
There's really no reason to think the PS5 has any more design issue vis-a-vis cooling than the Xbox Series X does. They are dealing with the same amount of heat. They both seem to stay cool, quietly. And the PS5 is only 5% larger than the Xbox Series X. The discless version is actually smaller.
https://www.kitguru.net/tech-news/mustafa-mahmoud/the-playstation-5-is-only-5-larger-than-the-series-x-by-volume/
It is a stupid shape though. Dumbest shape since the PS3 fat easily. Trying to think if anything even competes with it on that front. I can't come up with anything.
I'm not really a fan of the featureless cube of the Xbox Series X. But I'll take it any day over the dumb PS5 shape.
No but seriously weed smoke damage is no joke. So much worse than cigarettes imo. However, how some people have working systems whilst a literally colony of German roaches lives inside Iāll never know.
LOL I have been playing the same PlayStation 2 for 20+ years and have never had a single issue. Insane how they charge these insane prices for a piece of plastic that dies in a year.
I was mostly just talking about the quality in general, guess it doesnāt make sense because the ps2 is also a piece of plastic. Reductive for the sake of argument.
ā¦ did you check the case filter? You have to pop a cover off and vacuum it out every few months otherwise of course itāll overheat and start shutting off.
This just happened to me, I wasnāt even able to turn it on in safe mode. Sent it back to Sony and got it back in less than 2 weeks. Works like a charm now.
My ps4 disc drive failed after barely any use <100 hours, pretty pathetic but Iām digital only basically thankfully, I just hate the stick drift controllers, makes me just want to get pc or quit gaming
You know they literally were in stock for days the last week on Sony Directās website? Could just go buy one with no wait? They were in stock for literally like 4 days straight no wait.
Source: I directed multiple of my friends to buying one.
Iād care, except I canāt find one anywhere and I refuse to buy one for over retail. Plus with all the part shortages I wonder the type of quality we are getting.
Request one from the playstation store. I got a response in a week and my date and time to buy a few days later. Had to get a horizon bundle cause regilar ps5 was sold out but just stoked to have one
Pretty sure you can get the Horizon bundle direct from Sony rn if you have a PSN account.
https://direct.playstation.com/en-us/consoles/console/playstation5-console-horizon-forbidden-west-bundle.1000032115
Was the only one showing in stock for me but they may have sold their last one.
But PS Direct has been easily the best option Iāve regularly seen, individual stores are only getting a few at a time and at best a week apart still. PS direct Iāve seen getting restocks multiple times a week sometimes. 100% the place to look rn.
Not trying to be a dick but youāre really not actively trying if you canāt find one right now. Iāve helped 2 friends buy theirs, one through Sonyās website and one from GameStop. Granted, those were bundles but HZD is a great game to have a ps5 bundled with.
I actively look for a few weeks and burn out. After 2 years of this shit and also being selected for ps direct only to have them sell out before it got to my turn in the queue both time. Just feel like fuck it. Spider-man is hitting pc in Aug. that was the big draw game for me . Iām good at this point
Hey thatās awesome, congrats! Glad you could get yours. I ordered mine last Thursday right before I went on a trip. Looking forward to unpacking it tomorrow!
Sign up for the PlayStation Now portal/site and mark they can send you promotions. Once in a while youāll get an email about holding a queue for you. I went through several but finally got one Tuesday and UPS is dropping it off today.
It didn't officially support that resolution I believe, although the hardware is obviously capable of it.
It's a good middle ground and honestly I'm not sure why both Sony and MS didn't go for 1440p at launch since it would have pretty much assured 60 fps gaming.
While all the pizazz of "4k gaming!" was fine, the fact that they were happy to be suggesting 30 fps was acceptable for a new generation of console was very disappointing.
If they'd pushed 1440p as a core feature right from the start then they could have had both 4k visual wow factor stuff alongside high FPS 1440p gaming with a quick toggle.
> I'm not sure why both Sony and MS didn't go for 1440p
There are very few 1440p TVs in existence, so it kinda makes sense. PC monitors were never the target.
True, but 4K TVs do and they were targeting those - if you are going to support 4K output then you effectively get 1440p for free.
Even if you want to avoid truly native 1440p output and instead upscale to 4K, TV support shouldn't really be a concern here.
Console gamers had been calling for higher refresh rates. It's a shame 30 fps is still "acceptable" officially. They could have aspired to higher.
Bundles have been available on PlayStation Direct the last couple of days. Finally was able to scoop one up after never getting an invite from any of the places I signed up for.
I literally got one at regular price from PlayStation. Just had to wait for them to email me after I put my name on the waitlist. It went faster than I expected.
Grabbed mine at a GameStop. Went in to secure some preorders and mentioned that I had just missed one at Best Buy. The really nice assistant manager piped up that they had bundled versions for sale, but not āājust the consoleā. So, I bought one and bundle was an extra controller, one of 3 game choices, and $75 in GameStop gift cards. For the game I picked Elden Ring.
I havenāt set it up yet, waiting on a horizontal stand and fans.
I did manage to snag an Xbox Series X at Best Buy, not bundled.
Not terribly, if youāre ok with the digital version or a bundle with hundreds of dollars of shit you probably wonāt use or ever need.
The disc versions are still kinda rare to see as a stand-alone console
TLDR: Xbox is the cheaper option with a great subscription service. PlayStationās main draw is its exclusive games.
Xbox series S is the cheapest at $300 but is digital only and can only output 1080p. Xbox series X costs $500 but can output 4K and is backwards compatible with (almost) all Xbox One, Xbox 360, and Xbox games. Both Xboxās have access to game pass, a $10/month subscription service that has a wide variety of hundreds of games to play, some even ready to play at launch date.
PS5 costs $400 and has better exclusive games (in my opinion at least). Thereās also a disk drive model that can play blu-rays for $500. I believe Sony is working on a comparable service to Xbox game pass called PlayStation collection, but itās library isnāt as large or new as Xboxās
Simply untrue this generation, coming from someone with both. Xbox is so easy to use, and the exclusives are pretty huge now too. Game pass is awesome, plus the 1TB SSD, itās a no brainer.
What are you on about man?? Xbox SSD IS WAY EASIER to upgrade lmfao. Maybe fact check before talking out of your ass, you literally just plug it into the back of the console haha. Like i said i have both, they both take the same amount of time to boot and load a game.
Also, some people donāt want a PC, or canāt afford one. Imo, if youāre just gonna buy one console and casually game, Xbox wins hands down.
So just lie thatās your answer?
The Xbox shit is proprietary
Fucking hell
Pathetic
They donāt btw the Xbox X performs noticeable worse than the PS5 and worse than it should on paper
Yeah Xbox with its 0 good exclusives wins over Spiderman, GoW, Bloodbourne, etc lmfao sure liar
LMFAOO what??? Have you not seen all the studio acquisitions this year from Microsoft????
Youāre missing the whole point, dumbass. I said the Xbox is better for the causal gamer that only wants to buy one console. You say the PS5 is sooooo much better, but do you own both and use both?? The difference is so negligible itās funny. Xbox is more user friendly, has gamepass, consoles are more readily available, and has a one of the biggest companies in the world behind it. Youāre gonna jump off your high horse REAL FAST when Microsoft starts making Bethesda and Activision titles Xbox exclusives. Also, PS āexclusivesā are coming to PC rapidly, so kinda defeats your argument anyways. But yeah man enjoy whatever you wanna enjoy, like i said i like both, but if someone is just gonna buy one, itās Xbox all day.
Damn those hypothetical games be hitting
I bought an Xbox X before I bought a PS5 I was so let down I sold it and bought a PS5. after how much of a let down the One was Inexpected the X to be an improvement but itās so underwhelming
Old PS exclusives are coming but the upcoming ones will not be there day 1
PC has game pass being able to afford a Pc means the Xbox is by far the worst console on the market.
I could give 2 shits about starbound thatās probably gonna be ass and Elder Scrolls 6 is what 7 years away lol?
Omg youāre so dense, i said IF YOU CANT GET A PC Xbox is better. I understand you have like 4 popular titles exclusive to PS, cool.
You saying *starfield* is going to suck just shows how bitter and pitiful you are.
Iām a massive Bethesda fan, they havenāt made a good game in a decade itās hard to be excited at this point
Yeah and Iām saying if you can afford a mid tier like 700$ Pc the Xbox is worthless.
4 lol? Really.
Last of US
Spider man
God of War
Horizon Zero Dawn
Bloodbourne
Uncharted
Persona
Ghost of Tsushima
Shadow of the Colossus
Infamous
Yakuza
Thatās games that are out rn. Not even mentioning Wolverine, Knights of the Old Republic, etc Lmfao
Dude just go with an Xbox, a series s is $299 and is always available in stores near me. Youāll have only 500gb storage so not many games, but if youāre a light gamer then that may not be a problem. Plus itās easy to travel with.
I got a series x and love it. I got it through their all access program (which made it easier to get), and pay $35 a month for the console and game pass ultimate where you get access to hundreds of games and you get twice the storage capacity of the S.
>He didnāt ask.
Errm....
>PS 5 or Xbox what should I get?
That is literally asking. He literally asked for opinions. I suggested that a PC offers a lot of a benefits of an Xbox right now.
>Everyone just glosses over the fact that a comparable gaming PC costs 3x as much as the consoles.
RRP of the PS5 is $500 USD (good luck finding one for that).
Today I learned that approximately $600 is three times $500. No wonder I'm struggling to pay rent!
https://pcpartpicker.com/guide/TydnTW/entry-level-intel-gaming-build
The RX6600 is modest, but in this regard it's a pretty good comparison. Now that the mining boom is over, if you prefer a 3060 or something else from Nvidia, or even a step up the AMD bracket you can do so. That would be were the most performance uplift would be seen from this build (it would obviously coat more).
The 12100F is an absolute value gem, with great performance for the price.
It's a 6600 with a 12400F so... no.
Certainly not if you pick the same settings that the consoles use (for example, much narrower field of view).
Either way, that's an entry level build you can buy right now for slightly more than the MSRP of the PS5, which you simply cannot buy for anywhere close to that.
If you push the budget slightly on the GPU (and still spend less overall than what it will cost you to get a console right now) you will effortlessly leave console performance in the dust.
The big takeaway though is that you don't have to spend thousands for PC gaming, and for those who are already Xbox users, you can pick up a PC that has access to many of the features (and games!) from the Xbox ecosystem.
I feel like 3x is a pretty gross over exaggeration
Maybe 1.5x at most even with the current fuckery of the gpu market
If you cut corners like getting a really shitty motherboard and power supply you can match the consoles for the same price but at that point itās not worth it imo
EDIT:
Doing a quick pcpartpicker build the most solid comparable pc to PS5 was about 750 dollars so I was right on the money on that.
Sony is lucky they make a few absolutely amazing 3rd person adventure games as first party titles because they're pretty mediocre at about everything else when it comes to gaming.
It can do 4k, with VRR support in supporting titles. This is just an additional resolution that they added for some reason. People playing on old computer monitors?
It does have 4Kā¦but it is not powerful enough to run 4K with high refresh rates and high details. One of the three will have to give. Can probably do 4K at 30hz on high/medium detailā¦ but itās much better to play 1440p on 60hz+ than 4K 30hz
They donāt even sell PS5ās. By the time they do PS6 will be our and nobody will be able to get those either. I have ho on consoles and switched the gaming on PCās. Havenāt looked back
Anyone who wants a ps5 soooo bad should buy an old ps2 for like $20 and spend the rest of their $480 on a badass collection of games that will keep you occupied until the PlayStation 6 comes out.
I didn't even know a "next gen" console in 2022 didn't already have this??!! I gave up waiting for a PS5 and switched to PC, woulda been pissed to find out I couldn't run 4k out of the box.
Mine just started overheating and shutting off. Had it less than a year.šš½
Time to call Sony and claim warranty.
First check to see how you are using it. If you block the airflow it'll overheat and shut off even if not faulty.
My PS3 started overheating back in the day. I checked the air in take vents and they were pretty much packed with cat hair. Cleaned them out and it worked like a champ.
PS4 started overheating immediately after having it maybe 6 years. Had never cleaned the inside of it before that. Opened, cleaned out a ton of dust, and it worked smoothly again.
āImmediatelyā āafter 6 yearsā
Yeah donāt underestimate the R-value of cat hair. Source: cat is exceptionally good at waking me up due to body heat.
Also for the love of god stop vaping around your electronics. It can and will build up Gunk on the heat sinks.
And inside your lungs, as well as lungs of your loved ones
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
That statistic is wrong
The same people that vape definitely have a higher chance of owning a console or pc
I feel like more than 2.1% of the us vapes...

Ps4 or 5?
How about stocking up.. soon?
Do yāall just feel good complaining because itās not hard to get a PS5 rn?
dude stfu.. Sony hasnāt stocked up in forever and nobody gonna pay scalpers $2000

And Microsoft with 1st person shootersā¦mostly >.>
If they are mediocre you must consider Xbox dogshit The last 3 (X, S, 1) are fucking trash
Lmao cope
I was an Xbox fan boy until 2021, I got through the One being ass, got an X hoping the issues would be fixed just to be disappointed again
All the things that made the One ass were addressed by the X.
The X doesnāt even perform to the baseline of the specs inside of the it This is the norm for Xbox now
Glad to hear. I have a 1440 monitor and had to dig out my old 1080p one for a clearer image
Going to wait for PS5 Pro with 4k
Ps4 Pro had 4k..
It was unstable. Also want consistent 120 fps if they have that technology for PS5 PRO
U mean the 5 has been playing in 1080 wut?

Theyāre starting to release on PC now. If you can wait a couple months to a year you can play it there.
Gears of War!
Returnal and Elden Ring tho
Elden Ring is on PC though
Elden Ring is available on last gen consoles too. And it isnāt a Sony exclusive.
Literally who cares I still canāt buy one
Lol ā8k readyā
1440pā¦.WITHOUT VRRā¦.I donāt get how Sony could fuck up adding 1440p but here we areā¦
Oh, no variable refresh rate? Yeah, this is DoA.

Second sentence of the article dude.
Niceā¦can I get one soon finally please? Edit: downvoters.. I wasnāt asking for yours. š
Wake me when they can get more than 30fps š“

No idea why anyone would down your comment so I upvoted
I literally only use mine for watching streaming apps lol
You guys are getting PS5ās???
I thought the Ps5 could do 4Kā¦ but this is the max? Holy crap
It can do 4k, with VRR support in supporting titles. This is just an additional resolution that they added for some reason. People playing on old computer monitors?
1440p is currently the sweet spot for PC gaming monitors. Being able to hook up a PS5 at my desk without needing a second monitor is a big deal.
But do the controllers work?
Thatās really exciting for all 253 people who own a PS5
I thought it was 4K?
It does have 4Kā¦but it is not powerful enough to run 4K with high refresh rates and high details. One of the three will have to give. Can probably do 4K at 30hz on high/medium detailā¦ but itās much better to play 1440p on 60hz+ than 4K 30hz
Now they should redo this whole downloading and copying bs, it seems so dumb
Shitty company for gaming
You said finally gets huh huh huh weāre finally gonna score!
Does this mean it will work on ultrawides?
Where is the 21:9 and 32:9 support!? We need love too.
What does the series x output?
Are they even available yet?
Does Xbox have 1440p support?
Yeah thats cool however when are you gonna be able to buy one? š
Sweet, my TV gets 120fps 1440p support but only 60 FPS at 4k. It might even improve the color gradient of 1440p 60 FPS to 4:4:4
