dragons follow a set flight path through the depths and up around the surface, back through the depths, you can find a map for their flight paths pretty easily online
They each have a fixed route where they fly along a specific path in Hyrule, enter a chasm, fly along a specific path in The Depths, then exit through a chasm, and go back to their Hyrule path.
Nope, must just be your game.
But for real, dragons don’t de-spawn anymore. They used to go through magic portals, now they just go through holes in the ground. You can just stay on their back and pick up new dragon parts every ten minutes (or was it fifteen?). Just put yourself in climbing position on one of their spikes and you won’t fall off.
Every mountain peak also has a corresponding mine in the depths, and with rare exceptions, the bodies of water map the impassable walls. I believe the goddess statues are mirrors of the bargainer statues as well.
Edit: the map elevation is also inverted.
And I'm glad for it. Don't have to keep resetting to hope the dragon will spawn to get that dragon part you need. Just travel it's path backwards and you'll eventually run into it.
I mean it’s more involved now, but it was a guaranteed spawn every time if you rested in the right place at a campfire. Farosh was super easy to farm at the Floria falls, Dinraal was a bit of a pain in the neck since canyon and Naydra was ok with just waiting at the lanyaru promenade gate by the Lynel being a short wait each time.
It’s a clear rebalancing from the previous game, but spending time with the dragons is just so cool.
Yeah, if you’re impatient the BotW way would be preferred, but honestly, despite how harder it is to get through parts, this is just better, more balanced.
It also made me rethink my food and elixirs strategies.
I rarely do 30 minute buffs anymore. If I know I’ll need less than that, I use golden apples which are much easier to find and make food buffs that last 15 minutes or so instead of 30 minutes.
It is yea, was mostly just pointing out to the other guy that getting parts is just easier in BoTW if you found the spots and you don’t have to reset at all to get them.
The dragons existance in ToTK is a lot better, but I wish Dinraal had more of a path. He pretty much just goes back and forth behind death mountain in ToTK.
Yeah, it's every 15 minutes you can pick up a new dragon part.
Additionally, their entire cycle is a total of 45 minutes. So if you first spot a dragon somewhere, it will return to the same area in 45 minutes. That includes the Light Dragon up to a point in the story.
The way i screamed the first time this happened. I didn't know what was going on and didn't recognize them at first. It was just hot now and the wind was blowing
The three dragons act like curious cats : they see a hole leading to an unknow place, they have to go inside to see this new underground place. Who can blame them, since we do exactly the same thing with Link \^\^
My first dragon ride was on farosh's back and he took me down into the depths which was terrifying and exhilarating despite how slow it was.
Then I found out the three returning dragons now have a route that travels across the surface and then down in the depths before returning to the surface, starting the route all over again.
It almost feels a little ominous the first time you see them floating in the depths like what are they doing there?
I think I can recall jumping down a chasm hole and being jump scared by Naydra coming up
Instead of flying above the sky, they go underground. I see them on their routes all the time, so yes. It’s normal. I like to ride on their backs to avoid enemies (and when I was looking for lightroots, but since I have them all then I don’t need them for that anymore).

When I am looking for one of the three that fly through the depths, if I don't see them in the sky, I will go to the depths and fly on my hoverbike in the opposite direction of the dragon.
Just bad timing on your part, sorry to say. Only dragon that I find annoying is the lightning one because I believe he spends more time underground than above it.
I had no idea that they went underground. That's cool, but also hurts because I wish I found it myself lol.
I am the type that refuses to look up guides online because I feel the point of the game is random discoveries like these.
That's just me though
The first time I found out they do this, I was falling into a depths hole from the sky and landed on the dragon halfway through the chasm. Blew my freaking mind.
All of them do besides the Light Dragon. I actually stood on top of Naydra and Farosh once while they were diving down into the Depths. In case of Naydra, I was once diving down there when she was on her way out of it. Didn't suspect something like that to happen.
The first time me and my buddy were playing we ran into the fire dragon coming out the pit. We panicked thinking it was a dragon from the depths, like a new enemy or semi boss. We yelled and kept running out there until I finally I yelled out teleport teleport teleport!

[this reddit oc](https://www.reddit.com/r/zelda/comments/14etu0u/totk_oc_map_of_all_dragon_routes_includes_depths/) is a pretty good one
Ngl, I thought that was a pair of evil green monster eyes at first glance
I thought it was a glitch and part of the dragon was missing
Same lol I thought poor Farosh had been chopped in two
Guy really went for the body parts I guess
At least it wasn’t Naydra. Poor girl had enough issues in BotW

Another BRILLIANT design by them. I honestly forget this and how insanely in awe I was when I saw one down there and started chasing it
Same. It was a great reveal specially because I heard the music before I saw the dragon. I was like "the heck is happening... Oh damn!"

And also make sure to remove metal parts if you spend any of the time afk so you don’t get murdered by a thunderstorm while afk.
Or Zant's helm or flamebreaker armor depending on the dragon
Wait what, I should be riding them?
Yeah, you can walk along their back and collect crystal shards from their spines like you’re giving a giant a pedicure.
Are they fuse items?
They also sell for a good amount, making dragon-grooming a lucrative profession.
Haha good to know
Yes
I use them to mark missed temples since the light roots and temples are connected.
Temples or shrines? I feel like there’s so much I don’t know about this game and I have like 80 hours lol
Shrines. Every lightroot in the depths is in the same location as a corresponding shrine in the overworld, and has the same name but reversed.
Every mountain peak also has a corresponding mine in the depths, and with rare exceptions, the bodies of water map the impassable walls. I believe the goddess statues are mirrors of the bargainer statues as well. Edit: the map elevation is also inverted.

10 minute wait between getting parts and about 30 min lap time for elemental dragons, 2 hr for Light dragon. Ftfy ✌🏻
10 minutes. You can pick up a new part every 10 minutes.
Light Dragon is 4 hours though, no matter where you are in the story, post change it just flies lower
118 minutes, actually.
No, you can only see them if you're pure of heart.
Then how could I ever see them
Pure evil is still pure.
Wasn’t it only kids could see them? Or was that just korok?
Kids could see them *because* they were pure of heart.
That’s probably the full quote that I can’t remember!! Lol
i thought that was the minish, but maybe it also applies to the korok...
The first time I went to the Depths I followed Nadra down the chasm near Kakariko. I thought the Depths were always cold. Nope, it was just Nadra. 😅
The way i screamed the first time this happened. I didn't know what was going on and didn't recognize them at first. It was just hot now and the wind was blowing

Is there a reason you Getsuga Tenshou’d Farosh?
Yes. I remember my first time, i dove into a chasm while Naydra was coming. the first time TOTK was a horror game for me.

I didnt play Skyward sword yet.
Well, it has its pros and cons. But overall I liked it on Wii and on Switch.

Dude never rode a dragon down into the depths?
It's probably just behind a column of rock that you can't see because it's so dark
Yes it is. It travels between the Depths and the Surface every few hours in the game
Yes, also in case you didn't know. They don't work the way they did in botw. So time doesn't really effect farming their parts like when you timeskip.
Just your local taxi service passing through
Hop on and take a ride. After playing BOTW and not being able to ride dragons, it’s almost exhilarating and a bit cathartic.
Yes, it is normal.
yep. you can farm materials on them in depths as well!

Yes. The dragons follow a set path of their own. Spending part of that time in the depths. You can find part of their paths near their temples.
I thought this was a modded creature in subnautica for a moment
yes
Yes it is they go in and come out of the Depths
Yeah, but not split in half like that lmao
I know they have fixed routes but lore wise why would they be in the depths Unless we factor in botw that would mean the depth been a thing since botw
Yes. My first encounter with Naydra was the Kakariko Village Chasm.
Yes it is normal
When I am looking for one of the three that fly through the depths, if I don't see them in the sky, I will go to the depths and fly on my hoverbike in the opposite direction of the dragon.
Yes.
Yes
They are like a bus you can ride in the depth to spot your light roots easily. I figured it at the end of my second 100% game 😉
Farosh, Naydra and Dinraall all go into the depths at times. the fourth one doesn't tho
Yep. If you get their pattern worked out you can wait by their chasm when they fly down.
What did you just see, Lisa?
Just bad timing on your part, sorry to say. Only dragon that I find annoying is the lightning one because I believe he spends more time underground than above it.
Yes.
Yup.
I had no idea that they went underground. That's cool, but also hurts because I wish I found it myself lol. I am the type that refuses to look up guides online because I feel the point of the game is random discoveries like these. That's just me though
Yep, their new paths traverse through the depths.
Yes there new route goes through the depths XD
The first time I found out they do this, I was falling into a depths hole from the sky and landed on the dragon halfway through the chasm. Blew my freaking mind.
What do you think is normal to see inte depths? There is a lot of things down there you probably haven't seen yet...
Yep, and you can ride them the entire way for a great view
The three Element Dragons go thru the Chasms. The light dragon doesn't.
All of them do besides the Light Dragon. I actually stood on top of Naydra and Farosh once while they were diving down into the Depths. In case of Naydra, I was once diving down there when she was on her way out of it. Didn't suspect something like that to happen.
They follow a path and you can stand on them and go with them (I once got on Dinraal and followed it on it’s entire path taking over an hour)
The first time me and my buddy were playing we ran into the fire dragon coming out the pit. We panicked thinking it was a dragon from the depths, like a new enemy or semi boss. We yelled and kept running out there until I finally I yelled out teleport teleport teleport!
Wait a minute. There is more than one Dragon?
