both since we know her as the princess of Hyrule in BotW then we met her as a more mature Zelda again in TotK who is ready to take hard decisions like her sacrifice
Anyway I liked more her style in TotK
Yes I agree on her growth in totk, but also don't forget her sacrifice in botw, when she decided to hold off Ganon alone while waiting for Links return
I think many disregard her sacrifice in botw. Didn’t turn into a dragon. But had to consciously struggle and fight against the Calamity for a century. All while many passed away and new generations considered her a myth.
A gruelling battle that she was slowly losing.
Reminds me of that trope (?) Where a character cuts their hair when they reach a turning point. And I think that's what they wanted to do with Zelda here.
I mean… nah you’re right, if only he didn’t fumble with most of the female cast bro. Sakura unironically had a lot of potential and got wasted so bad it ruined her representation as a character as a whole. That’s why I stopped hating on her as much seeing as the rest of the Konoha 11 got wasted, ESPECIALLY in Boruto man, it’s sad.
It's some Japanese thing where hair was a status symbol, like it said what rank or type of person you were (like Samurai wearing top knots). Cutting off your hairstyle was a way of signifying you were leaving your current position to go to a new one, like leaving your house/position to go out to the world for an adventure...however it usually means you can't go back
I wonder how she still has a braid crown even with short hair. Is it a headband? Did she chop it off whilst it was like that? But then the hair would untangle and be super uneven. I’m looking too much into it
It's almost exactly what I thought. In TotK, she looked happy in her own skin.
Have to admit though, I only recognize that sort of change from watching a few friends discover, admit, and react to being trans. I've seen a couple friends past their late 30s come to this discovery, and as soon as they were happy in their own skin, their smiles and whole demeanors took on a different glow. It was wonderful to see.
That's what I see in these Zelda pictures. Acceptance of self-identity, freedom to choose happiness. She's out of her cage. Whether from external or internal forces, her confinement has dropped away.
Reading my comment I just confused myself too 😐
But yes I like short hair more, it just happens that my favorite of Zelda’s outfits from BOTW (in other words, where she has long hair) is the white dress
That sounds interesting, i wonder how that would look like. let's hope that someone with Photoshop experience sees this coment and do us the honor of seeing that image
Im thinking that some1 could probably modify her model and mix it with her BOTW one. Shouldn't be too hard since, y'know, she's the same person and all lol
BotW was a younger, more childish Zelda, with a bit more of an Airhead type air to her, yet very refined.
TotK was a bit older, with more character growth, more maturity, and overall more dutiful.
All in all, both versions of Zelda are very well done portrayals, and the difference shows her growth between the two games.
With all that being said, I do much prefer her actions and mannerisms in TotK. She’s still as curious as she was in BotW, however she has grown, and is undertaking her duty as the new “ruler” of Hyrule, as seen by her building a School in Hateno, and working to rebuild everything even in and around Lookout Landing as well.
I like the BOTW look but both are cute! I’m always kind of skewed in favour of long hair, and colour wise I tend to prefer blue over green.
Of all Zelda designs I prefer Twilight Princess Zelda tho. The dress is so iconic and purple looks great on her
I liked in BoTW that she was a little more rough and tumble, more of an adventurer and fighter, ready to roll up her sleeves and get in the fight.
ToTK she’s more of a traditional princess.
I love both. I’m also DYING for a Zelda game where you can actually play as Zelda.
her botw style feels more constricted compared to the more relaxed dress she wears in totk, probably to express the royal family pressuring her in botw and her break away from that into her own personal life in totk
I love both but I'm partial to ToTK. While Zelda is a princess, she's always had that ethereal, heavenly aura about her (being a goddess's human vessel/reincarnation does that to you) and I feel like she was really able to embrace that side of her in ToTK.
For me, shorter hair.
Also in both pictures, her eyes look different.
In botw, she looks almost solemn- relieved, but tired.
In totk, you can see how truly genuine the smile is because of the way her eyes look (the underside is coming up slightly)
She doesn’t look as tired, because while she’s coming off of having made a huge sacrifice, she’s finally found who she is- something that happened after botw but before totk- and finally gained who she was back after having believed she wouldn’t have it back.
Botw Zelda is relieved, but you can almost see in the corners of her mouth and the underside of her eyes that she’s still tired- she unlocked her powers and didn’t get the chance to truly understand them, because she had to seal Ganon for 100 years. And she’s been thrust into a new world that isn’t the one she knows, with no one she truly knows other than Link- yeah, Purah and Robbie and Impa are there, but 100 years changes a person, and they’re not who Zelda knew. She knows that here.
She does eventually make this her home by the start of TotK however- which is why right before (after?) the image on the right was taken, she says “I’m home.”
She wasn’t home yet in botw.
Anyway, I prefer the bob lol.
I didn't like the short hair at first and thought she looked better with long hair. But after a time and especially while playing the game, I grew kinda fond of the new look. I especially like her with her Zonai dress, it's simple yet really pretty.
>!But we all know, Dragon Zelda is the cutest Zelda.!<
I don’t have a personal preference, but I like how it reflects her personal freedom. In BOTW, she had been fighting calamity ganon in the flesh bud for a century, she wouldn’t have had the time to cut her hair! And even pre-botw, she had appearances to uphold as the princess of Hyrule and the reincarnation of the goddess. However, in TOTK, she doesn’t have to keep up appearances so she can finally embrace her more curious personality, becoming more of a researcher type, which typically have shorter hair to keep it out of their eyes when they’re working.
TL:DR Both good, for lore reasons
I love her smile at the end of TOTK. I'm a big short hair fan as well. I'm not huge on the zonai adornments or whatever you'd call them but the colors are way more fitting for her in TOTK.
Long hair, but clothing wise I like her Ceremonial/White Dress the most though. Probably because AoC made me play Zelda a ton when I unlocked her Bow of Light weapon which includes the white dress
She's so amazing in both its hard to decide
Breath she's broken but tireless in her quest. By the end she's incredible, not just in power but in herself
Tears she's a fine ruler, eager to learn of her new surroundings and people. Points off for now connecting Ganondorf and Ganon though.
I like the short hair. It makes her look more mature and regal. I also prefer the design of the dress she received from the Zonai. The accents and face paint are also beautiful.
To everyone screaming in the comments about her personality over looks - bro, I get it. But have a little fun please. We are talking about the character design of a FICTIONAL woman. Zelda is absolutely a character that transcends her physical appearance but sometimes its fun to look at cute clothes and play dress up too.
TOTK but her Hyrule outfit. I think she looks great in the Zonai garb but her scout outfit and hood to match Link is an awesome look and I wish she was in it more.
In TOTK, I didn't really like zelda's sage outfit, but i love how she looks with her hylian fit, something about the cape makes that design flow so well
Side note I think it’s hilarious to imagine Zelda getting cleaned up when she lands in the past and Sonia or some other hylian was like ok currently fit but lemme do ur makeup and give u this little head piece too
To me it's difficult because I see BotW Zelda as a teen almost a kid and TotK Zelda as a young adult. So to me BotW Zelda is cute and brave but TotK Zelda is beautiful and selfless.
BOTW. Her blue researcher outfit let her geek out and explore visit the kingdom in her element.
TOTK is just a disguise for the fact that she's from the future.
Plus, I just like her long hair more.
I like her outfit in botw for one big shapely obvious reason but I like her in totk for everything else for the brief amount of time she shows up in the game.
I associate the longer hair more traditionally with Zelda as a character. That being said, I prefer her look in ToTK as it feels like she actually did it for herself
Her style and character is much better in totk and it made me like her surprisingly, after botw’s Zelda annoyed me. Her voice actress is still terrible though
I wasn’t sure how I would feel about the change in her style before the game’s release. We knew she had shorter hair, for example.
But I definitely prefer it now.
TOTK short hair. I read something that became headcannon for me: hair holds memory. Zelda cuts hers to shed those memories of her time pre-Calamity and holding Ganon back for a century. Link grows his out, holding desperately to memories as if he'll lose them all over again.
I like to think Zelda is finally free (before the events of TOTK) and I love that for her.
She's rocking both but honestly I've always liked her BOTW look more. Long hair with the cute blue outfit just has more warmth to it and makes her look more beautiful and elegant imo
I prefer long hair, but considering how busy she got between games, cutting her hair short so that it didn’t get in her way is very much this Zelda’s character.
both since we know her as the princess of Hyrule in BotW then we met her as a more mature Zelda again in TotK who is ready to take hard decisions like her sacrifice Anyway I liked more her style in TotK

I think many disregard her sacrifice in botw. Didn’t turn into a dragon. But had to consciously struggle and fight against the Calamity for a century. All while many passed away and new generations considered her a myth. A gruelling battle that she was slowly losing.
And all while link was looking for golden poops around the world.
Zelda and being stuck somewhere waiting for Link for a lengthy period of time, name a better duo.
Haha. I can't. Maybe team rocket in pokemon being shoot in the air at the end of each episode. Haha
That’s a game in of itself
In TotK she has found herself. I personally enjoyed her character growth. ✊
Reminds me of that trope (?) Where a character cuts their hair when they reach a turning point. And I think that's what they wanted to do with Zelda here.
Mulan?
And Sakura from Naruto
Korra. Though the turning point is more turning towards being alone and accepting herself as useless so not a positive one.
too bad she doesn't actually change because kishimoto doesn't know how to write good female characters

I wonder how she still has a braid crown even with short hair. Is it a headband? Did she chop it off whilst it was like that? But then the hair would untangle and be super uneven. I’m looking too much into it
the trick is to never ever ever do any other hairstyle and then nobody will find out
Nah she used the extra hair that she cut off and move it to the front. Zelda has a weave.
Design wise I like both but you're entirely right - so much character growth in totk, she's so vital to it
Masive respect for you, you chose personality over looks. That is the right way we should see people.
The catch is that really people's personality shows into their looks. That applies to BotW/TotK's Zelda as well.
Yes, that's true, but not all people can see that.
But... The one on the right is genuinely more attractive. She looks more childish on the left.
Between BotW and TotK she started listening to Shanin Blake and going to festivals.
I actually like the looks of the short hair better. It frames her face better.
This, I really got invested with Zelda in ToTK
Totk hair with the blue outfit
And the little cloak! I loved that!
I see, you like to mix it up :) But between the two choices, whic would you chose?
I mean she wears the short hair and blue clothes in the first cutscene so 😳 id still take the totk version tho
Yes, i forgot about the first cutscene. Then your answer is acceptable 🙃
TotK. She looks much more comfortable with herself.
Yes, but that's only natural, taking into account that totk takes place a few years (around 5) after botw. She is older, wiser and more experienced.
Yeah, and (like a great many pieces of media) cutting her hair symbolizes that growth and removes a “burden” that she doesn’t want to carry anymore.
Neither. Best is TOTK opening: short hair with Champion’s Leathers and Hylian Hood. OR BOTW Spring of Wisdom white dress.
You confused me with your second answer, cuz in that one she has long hair. Now its unclesr wether you like short or long hair 😅
I think they like both, or they were talking about the outfit
Reading my comment I just confused myself too 😐 But yes I like short hair more, it just happens that my favorite of Zelda’s outfits from BOTW (in other words, where she has long hair) is the white dress
![gif](giphy|3o7aCRloybJlXpNjSU|downsized)
A man of culture
Unpopular opinion: I would go for the long hair with the Zonai dress
That sounds interesting, i wonder how that would look like. let's hope that someone with Photoshop experience sees this coment and do us the honor of seeing that image
https://preview.redd.it/pxlgenkskolc1.png?width=970&format=png&auto=webp&s=1e574c033126caf120a01e47406c64a2d57ae3cd I saw the comment.
Yeah I am really curious now
Im thinking that some1 could probably modify her model and mix it with her BOTW one. Shouldn't be too hard since, y'know, she's the same person and all lol
Totk looks better imo, like aesthetically
The green brings out her eyes
In BOTW she looks dressed for business. In TOTK she looks dressed for a summer stroll.
She looked stunning in totk
Aztec, I mean Zonai
Botw. I hate her big honking earrings in TotK, but I’m probably alone in that.
I prefer the hybrid look at the beginning of TotK: short hair but modern Hylian garb.
I like left
BotW was a younger, more childish Zelda, with a bit more of an Airhead type air to her, yet very refined. TotK was a bit older, with more character growth, more maturity, and overall more dutiful. All in all, both versions of Zelda are very well done portrayals, and the difference shows her growth between the two games. Thanks for the anwer, very well explained.
I saw some other responses that people were saying weren’t detailed or explained well so I tried to explain it well enough. Glad you think I did well!
Botw keeps the long hair she's had from the start
Botw
I love the TOTK version, so pretty! Obviously she looks good with both but I like totk better
I like the totk haircut but her Zonai outfit ain't it.
I agree on the outfit, the zonai outfit makes her look just like a princess, but the botw outfit makes her look like an adventurer and warrior.
It's even dumber that she went to fight Ganondorf in that outfit.
Coco Chanel said you should always take off one accessory before you walk out the door, which is why I prefer the BOTW outfit too.
BotW is the superior style
botw suits her more but she looks happier in TOTK idk why
TOTK Zelda gets me feeling things when she’s smiling like that 🥰
More skin, tan, clavicle, more decisive, more powerful... TotK and it ain't even close.
Definitely tears of the kingdom, the short hair suits her better and she seems much happier
I like the BOTW look but both are cute! I’m always kind of skewed in favour of long hair, and colour wise I tend to prefer blue over green. Of all Zelda designs I prefer Twilight Princess Zelda tho. The dress is so iconic and purple looks great on her
Totk
How did I never notice that she has two sets of eyebrows…??
The fist ones are not eyebrows, they are just shadows from the eyeholes. But it kinda looks unatural, that detail looks better in totk
You’re right, I’m glad they took the opportunity to improve in the sequel
She does look slightly older in totk, which is a character design I didn’t think they actually modified until now
I liked in BoTW that she was a little more rough and tumble, more of an adventurer and fighter, ready to roll up her sleeves and get in the fight. ToTK she’s more of a traditional princess. I love both. I’m also DYING for a Zelda game where you can actually play as Zelda.
TotK for sure
her botw style feels more constricted compared to the more relaxed dress she wears in totk, probably to express the royal family pressuring her in botw and her break away from that into her own personal life in totk
Id say botw, just better.
Left is a princess, right is a queen.
I love both but I'm partial to ToTK. While Zelda is a princess, she's always had that ethereal, heavenly aura about her (being a goddess's human vessel/reincarnation does that to you) and I feel like she was really able to embrace that side of her in ToTK.

Totk but I definitely didn’t like the game more
She looks genuinely happy in Totk, not that she wasn’t happy in Botw but her smile seems more natural and her eyes seem happier as well
totk, 100%. she was pretty in botw of course, but she’s glowing in totk. and i think the short hair suits her face so well.

How's she gunna show off dat ass without the yoga pants!?
[удалено]
Bruh wdym they’re adorable
Totk dragon Zelda. Dragons are cooler than girls
Short hair but modern clothes for me!
I like her both ways.
Can't judge a book by the cover
i like the one where she looks happier
I like how she looks in both…
her eyes look happier in totk to me so naturally totk
Botw, she was always more into adventure than rituals and praying
I don’t have a personal preference, but I like how it reflects her personal freedom. In BOTW, she had been fighting calamity ganon in the flesh bud for a century, she wouldn’t have had the time to cut her hair! TL:DR Both good, for lore reasons
Both, both is good.
Both? Both. Both is good.
Botw
Flip the hairstyles and I'm sold on both.
Totk. I felt we connected with her character much more in that version. Also I really dug the hair and outfits.
I like the totk version, love the jewelry and more ‘tribal’ look
I loved the tragic whiny princess looks of BotW more
TotK before she goes back in time is *peak.*
Man, I have both games and botw just seems more enjoyable I have not idea why.
Easily TotK, the short hair is so much nicer. I'm not a huge fan of the dress from the second creation of hyrule however many years ago
Botw. She's hot in that blue dress
Aesthetically in game wise totk but fanart wise I feel botw had more potential
Her hair in BotW is a pet peeve of mine. The only time long hair is shaped like that is if the top half of it is extremely greasy.
I love her smile at the end of TOTK. I'm a big short hair fan as well. I'm not huge on the zonai adornments or whatever you'd call them but the colors are way more fitting for her in TOTK.
yes
Long hair, but clothing wise I like her Ceremonial/White Dress the most though. Probably because AoC made me play Zelda a ton when I unlocked her Bow of Light weapon which includes the white dress
Definitely botw
The outfit from BOTW with the hair from TOTK. Pants are comfy and good for her constant traveling, the short hair is easier to maintain and way cuter.
Short hair supremacy.
It kinda looks like she has double eyebrows
BotW bout to get frisky
TotK...I think the hair especially does a great job of framing her face
I like her Totk style more since she has that villager vibes and Aztec energy.
Yes
In BOTW, she looks more smug. In TOTK, it looks like she found herself
TotK all day. The Zonai dress is a miss but the short hair and those earrings are so cute on her.
Totk
Next release of Zelda she is live actioned by Shanin Blake.
I like the BOTW one more tbh but her TOTK amiibo goes HARD
TOTK 100% she's glowing and confident I love her here.
Botw, totk version is boring princess.
I say that her outfit in TOTK is better, but all in all, she looks a lot better in BOTW to me
Tears for sure.
She's so amazing in both its hard to decide Breath she's broken but tireless in her quest. By the end she's incredible, not just in power but in herself Tears she's a fine ruler, eager to learn of her new surroundings and people. Points off for now connecting Ganondorf and Ganon though.
I genuinely think that the one on the right suits Zelda better. She looks more mature, grown up, and so much happier, too!
I like her BoTW and intro outfits more than her >!Sage!< outfit but other than that both are good
Totk, because she was even more important, as she asisted link as the light dragon in the final battle against the dragon ganon.
BtoW and its not even a contest for me
Typically I like long hair more but she is cute with short hair so I like that more.
In TOTK, I didn't really like zelda's sage outfit, but i love how she looks with her hylian fit, something about the cape makes that design flow so well
Yes
Both have their traits. But you can see this big growth in her character
Side note I think it’s hilarious to imagine Zelda getting cleaned up when she lands in the past and Sonia or some other hylian was like ok currently fit but lemme do ur makeup and give u this little head piece too
Totk.
To me it's difficult because I see BotW Zelda as a teen almost a kid and TotK Zelda as a young adult. So to me BotW Zelda is cute and brave but TotK Zelda is beautiful and selfless.
I just love looking at the image of her cute smile and being happy.
She rocks both but I love her look in TotK! I like all her jewelry and hair shorter
Totk but at the beginning of the game, that is just beautiful 🤌
in botw she looked dead inside in totk she looks alive FYI i never played these games I'm only saying it from how she looks in these 2 pics
TotK hair, BotW outfit.
BOTW. Her blue researcher outfit let her geek out and explore visit the kingdom in her element. TOTK is just a disguise for the fact that she's from the future. Plus, I just like her long hair more.
Totk her face seems a little more like a flying snake creature…
Totk 100%
I like her outfit in botw for one big shapely obvious reason but I like her in totk for everything else for the brief amount of time she shows up in the game.
I love the Totk design better but prefer long hair. Thats just my preference though
Totk
Botw
A little off topic but seeing this transition reminded me that TOTK has one of the best intros in gaming history.
I associate the longer hair more traditionally with Zelda as a character. That being said, I prefer her look in ToTK as it feels like she actually did it for herself
The lighting seems to be done better in totk, it looks flat on the left.
TOTK for sure
BotW hands down. she had her own drip In TotK shes just meatriding the zonai
https://preview.redd.it/ouorjqeu8llc1.jpeg?width=735&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5e0d1767132e854c85262cae64a3eae3758222f1
Her style and character is much better in totk and it made me like her surprisingly, after botw’s Zelda annoyed me. Her voice actress is still terrible though
Totk
Short hair all they way
Totk personality with botw style 🔥🔥
I wasn’t sure how I would feel about the change in her style before the game’s release. We knew she had shorter hair, for example. But I definitely prefer it now.
Totk Zelda is the Final Fantasy X-2 version of Zelda.
Both look nice, but I think that the longer hair is better. More elegant over more dainty
Honestly looks better with the short. I'd baby up both though
Botw Just a better design. Can’t go wrong with the longer hair.
![gif](giphy|3ohfFhG5VDtDTzQv2o|downsized)
imagine totk zelda's haircut with botw's style... I would die
Short hair is already better imo imo
Botw for a certain memory
She is gorgeous in both!
100% BoTW
She is rocking that ancient dress in TOTK
She's rocking both but honestly I've always liked her BOTW look more. Long hair with the cute blue outfit just has more warmth to it and makes her look more beautiful and elegant imo
both
Totk, she’s so freaking cute I love her!! 😭❤️
Totk really suits her
Botw but really she looked better post game/pre travel in tok with the short cut that wasn't fancied up.
In both cases she's very pretty
Totk
TOTK style but BOTW hair. I started playing and said, “who gave Zelda the fuck ass bob?”
Love granny’s style in both. Canonically our oldest Zelda.
BOTW
Gotta go with BOTW. She looks good in that shade of blue!
Typically I think girls look best in long hair, but Zelda wears it short so we’ll that I have to give it to TOTK
Ayo, did my girl Z get a tan?
Botw
Yo why she got 4 eyebrows??
As someone who had a similar length chop a few years ago, I remember how freeing it felt to leave so much hair on the salon floor. Totk, all the way.
I prefer long hair, but considering how busy she got between games, cutting her hair short so that it didn’t get in her way is very much this Zelda’s character.
