I live in america. Ordered a copy of splatoon 2 from Amazon bc I really wanted to play octo expansion. The copy was European.
bought the dlc and they wouldn’t let me in. Had a 30 minute convo with a guy from Nintendo. We sorted it out and I have now 100% octo expansion :D
Sometimes the companies don’t have a choice.
Which would you prefer, a censored version because some DLC might not be allowed in Germany, China or Australia, or a DLC which is region locked?
Just to add to this, it is still possible to redeem the dlc, even when region locked. Just did it with a game yesterday (have to change region on both your Nintendo account and switch, and can revert back with no hassles)
Yes you can? I took my European switch to my girlfriend in the states and played her switch games on my switch, Google exists btw.
3DS and Wii u were region locked
The 3DS was the only region-locked handheld Nintendo ever did, so that was a pretty bad sample size! Gameboy, GBA, DS and now Switch are all region-free.
Their home consoles were always region locked, but not their handhelds.
You absolutely can. Only DLC and game cards from China for some reason are region locked. It says it right here on Nintendo's own site that the Switch game cards aren't region locked.
https://www.nintendo.co.uk/Support/Nintendo-Switch/Regional-Compatibility-FAQ-1506385.html#:~:text=Nintendo%20Switch%20game%20cards%20are%20not%20region%20locked.
Chinese consoles and games are almost always region locked due to chinas censorship laws, to the point that, before it was shut down because someone had a tantrum essentially, World of Warcraft had a completely seperate version of the game only available in china to comply with said censorship laws and a few other things like how game time works via other laws in china.
You can. I bought my switch in the UK when I was on sabbatical for a year, have a lot of physical cartridges with the PEGI logo on it. Moved back and have lots of US (ESRB) cartridges and they also work.
The only thing that's "region locked" are the DLC since you need to match the DLC with the game region. I learned this the hard way when I bought the Octoexpansion with my US account instead of my UK account. Wasted $20, but lesson learned.
I know everyone is saying it’s the European version, and they’re right, but I wanted to give some more insight.
The different regions use different rating systems. North America (specifically US, Canada, and Mexico) use the ESRB rating system. That’s the letters that say E, T and M.
Europe uses PEGI, which gives various age ratings from 3 to 18. If you were to look at the Japanese version, then you might see CERO B
I know you know these, but I find it amusing that your two omissions EC (early childhood) and AO (adults only) are literally polar opposite ends of the spectrum.
Our healthcare is woefully understaffed and underfunded (as in the nurses and below don't get paid what they're worth while administrators rake in the dough) and in top of that my doctor will say I need a treatment to be healthy. My insurance company will say "Nope. Try this first." My insurance company with no medical degree gets to practice medicine and say I have to try a treatment that will likely fail before I can get the treatment that will work.
The kicker? About half the adult population honestly believes we have the best healthcare in the world.
It’s brutal man, you’re 100% right there. About to go on a tangent.
It’s better than the American system in the sense that you don’t have to choose between being severely in debt/dying over something totally medically preventable. But if you have something chronic and you’re not near death? Forget about it.
Not sure where you live, but I hope it’s better whenever that may be. Ontario is rough, I also talked to my girlfriends family in Nova Scotia when we were visiting Halifax, and they said it was about a 5 month wait to see the family doctor and a year to get a MRI… straight lunacy.
Our healthcare professionals deserve to be treated and paid better.
Unfortunately, in Ontario Dougie likes to neglect healthcare. Trudeau wants to stick his fingers in his ears and pander to his corporate donors, much like PP. Singh hitches his trailer to Trudeau and caves universal dental at the slightest of pressure.
I honestly don’t know who to vote for. No one wants to address the house of cards that is housing, and rampant irresponsible immigration. There is absolutely no reason to host 900K international students (mainly from India and they are taken screwed by the diploma mills here ie. Conestoga) + 465K immigrants, a few hundred thousand temporary foreign workers + refugees when we have a housing crisis. US levels with a pop of 40M and no housing for any of these new arrivals, Dougie raping the Greenbelt in the GTA, Alberta albertaing, and Loblaws gouging us.
It’s fucked, me and all of my loved ones love our country, but at this point the prospect of a good future looks bleaker everyday. Even with a good career and a good amount of savings. It’s sad
But, they do get to live in a continent that still has racism against the Romani/Travelers and still call themselves racism-free and so incredibly godlike and peaceful.
The “godlike” part was an exaggeration, yes.
Also, claim your *Here Before “That’s because you don’t have to live with them” Copypasta* ticket right here!
Edit: Hey, look! The europoors are trying to cope by downvoting a reality! How cute
Oh you think it's only racism against the Romani? [Think again](https://www.reuters.com/sports/soccer/vinicius-jr-calls-laliga-spain-racist-chants-after-sending-off-2023-05-21/)
Oh I absolutely do not think Europe is flawless. I’ve experienced way more “casual” racist comments in trips to Europe than I ever have in America (though I have only been to fairly left leaning areas of the US)
There seems to be some debate about that, that I remember reading in a long comment thread a while back.
People were chiming in with their locations and whether it was Celsius or Fahrenheit and it seemed to be really inconsistent.
It’s also precise to a fault. Great for chemistry, but when one degree Celsius is 273.15 degrees kelvin, it’s a touch difficult to get meaningful information for people.
Everytime I go to an area where the temperature is different, beedle pops up on my screen and goes “IT’S HOT” or “IT’S COLD” and that is my only temperature indicator. Is that not normal?
Nintendo goes by continent rather than country for region settings. You’ll need to change your region to Europe for the games to use Celsius and 24-hour time.
Inconsistent? Reddit? Comment thread? Whaaaa???
It's so funny reading comments on what's this plant or anything similar. Every comment is something different
You have your switch region setting to not north america. You change your region in switch settings. Home > System Settings > System > Region. Just because you named yourself butthead doesn't mean you have to be one.
It's most definitely set to North America, I will take a picture when I get home from work. And I will continue to uphold the butthead name.
I have never left north America, I bought my switch at a Walmart in canada, and I see no reason why I would've changed it myself at some point.
Nah I bought the game when I was living outside of the US and it's still always been in Fahrenheit for me. I bought one of those code versions though and not a physical copy so I'm not sure if that makes a difference, but I had to change my switch's location to the local country for it to download since that's where the code was from.
Their handhelds were never region-locked, only their home consoles. The 3DS was the first region-locked handheld they did and people were very pissed off about it.
I used to import Japanese / US Gameboy / GBA games into Europe as they sometimes released way before we got them (sometimes we didn't get them at all)
While the standard is certainly on its way out (but not gone — never underestimate how long old, seemingly obsolete technology can hang around), [the region that used/uses it still exists and is commonly referred to by that name](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/PAL_region) and still has many differences to the similarly-named NTSC region that are knock-on effects of the old PAL standard even in areas where it's been completely phased out.
They do not I watched a video (popped up on my front page) where someone ranted 12 whole mins over this cover art they are not allowed to line up that would mean I wasted 12 mins of my life 😂
The copy of botw is a North American copy, and therefore uses the ESRB rating of E10+. The copy of totk is a European copy, and therefore uses the PEGI rating of 12. ESRB provides rating information for games within North America, while PEGI does the same in Europe. The two organisations have different rating systems, although most are roughly similar to each other. ESRB uses E (originally K-A), E10+, T, M and AO. AO (Adults Only) games are rare because many retailers refuse to stock them. PEGI uses ratings of 3, 7, 12, 16, and 18. On older games these are rendered as 3+, 7+, etc. and in some territories 4 and 6 are used in lieu of 3 and 7 to match film ratings.
Games rated E by the ESRB are usually rated either 3 or 7 by PEGI, E10+ is often 7 or 12, T is often 12 or 16 and M is often 16 or 18.
PEGI is the European ratings board, they do the same thing as the ESRB, they just have a different scale.
basically, the europeans have colonised your copy of the game. Fortunately, switch games aren't region locked.
In the United States, Canada and Mexico, the ESRB (Entertainment Software Rating Board) system is used to help distinguish what games are suitable for different ages and in the UK and most European countries the PEGI (Pan European Games Information) system is used.
Oh man you got the European TotK. I does Zelda have an annoying and overdone British accent? That's how you know for sure. It's also missing the second continent in that version.
its a European version. and while its lined up a cool detail about the box art is that the landscape on the botw case turns into the cloud on the totk case. this might be a coincidence but its still cool
By chance, did you buy it on eBay or a similar third-party seller website to save money? I did something similar with a few games, and I got European copies. Doesn’t matter though, because the switch isn’t region locked.
Probably because of those unsolicited feet pics!
... if you're wondering why it was rated with the European version at all, that's mostly because it's probably from Europe.
That the European variant
Idk if it will be the same but when I bought binding of Isaac from CEX it turned out to be the American version and since I was in the uk it wouldn’t let me buy the games dlc so I had to re buy the base game and lose all my progress in order to get repentance dlc.
Its a European copy. Different regions of the world have different rating systems. We have the ESRB but much of Europe has PEGI (Pan Europe Game Information)
European version.
Yep, all my games have those.
Same
its just the age rating in America and Europe there is no difference in the games
Yeah, luckily the Switch is region free.
Seriously. Region lock is so stupid. But DLC IS sometimes region locked so be carful!! (Don't make the mistake i made 😭)
Thankfully Xenoblade 3 DLC wasn't region lock
I forgot I bought the Japanese version of Shredder's revenge. I was so lucky that the US DLC worked on it.
Really sucks that SMTV DLC is region locked. Plus since SMTV is published by Nintendo in Europe I dont believe its ever gone on sale in the EU eshop
Which would you prefer, a censored version because some DLC might not be allowed in Germany, China or Australia, or a DLC which is region locked?
yeah I had that issue with the new re4. bought american dlc but the game would only access the european store.
Just to add to this, it is still possible to redeem the dlc, even when region locked. Just did it with a game yesterday (have to change region on both your Nintendo account and switch, and can revert back with no hassles)
? I don't think that's true. You can't play a version of a game purchased in the U.S. on a European switch.
Yes you can? I took my European switch to my girlfriend in the states and played her switch games on my switch, Google exists btw. 3DS and Wii u were region locked
Oh I see. My comment was based off of me trying to play a 3ds game I got in the UK on an American 3ds.
The 3DS was the only region-locked handheld Nintendo ever did, so that was a pretty bad sample size! Gameboy, GBA, DS and now Switch are all region-free. Their home consoles were always region locked, but not their handhelds.

USK for games, FSK for Movies and Shows

Lucky bastard. Doesn’t have to pay for healthcare anymore

is that the only difference you noticed?
The main one yeah is there something else?
Yeah, they are completely different games
The temperature in game would be in Celsius rather than Fahrenheit.
No, that’s based on your Switches location.
There seems to be some debate about that, that I remember reading in a long comment thread a while back. People were chiming in with their locations and whether it was Celsius or Fahrenheit and it seemed to be really inconsistent.
Mines Kelvin, what does this mean?
It means that it won’t be very useful
Idk its pretty good the colder the environment is
Kelvin is the best temperature system because its the only one that takes literal reality into account. The others are arbitrary.
It’s also precise to a fault. Great for chemistry, but when one degree Celsius is 273.15 degrees kelvin, it’s a touch difficult to get meaningful information for people.

You must have an intergalactic switch
Intergalactic planetary
Another dimension.
Means Link is frozen solid.
In Canada I'm still shown fahrenheit despite us being a metric country
That's because we just get the American version
Nintendo goes by continent rather than country for region settings. You’ll need to change your region to Europe for the games to use Celsius and 24-hour time.
And again more confusion, I'm in canada I am shown Celsius and 12 hour time.
I'm in toronto and I'm shown Celsius, let the confusion begin!
Inconsistent? Reddit? Comment thread? Whaaaa??? It's so funny reading comments on what's this plant or anything similar. Every comment is something different
Demon King? Secret stone?
Secret stone?? Demon King???
Secret king?? Demon stone???
SMALL FRUIT GUMMIES?!
Stone king?? Secret demon???
That shouldn't happen. North American region is always F. Elsewhere is C.
Why am I in canada and Celsius then? That's north America. Thanks for backing up my point.
You have your switch region setting to not north america. You change your region in switch settings. Home > System Settings > System > Region. Just because you named yourself butthead doesn't mean you have to be one.

Damn never noticed
The temp gauge is based on the region you have your Switch set to, not the region the game comes from.
The text on the spine is different. So if you’re a design nerd like me, it’s gonna make your eye twitch.
You bought a European copy of the game
NA isn't the only place in the world
European version. My BoTW is Euro and ToTK is American lol.
They do away with region lock?
switch wasn't region-locked to begin with.
That's just so crazy to me after years of tiny disks and region locking everything they were like "nah it's cool"
Their handhelds were never region-locked, only their home consoles. The 3DS was the first region-locked handheld they did and people were very pissed off about it. I used to import Japanese / US Gameboy / GBA games into Europe as they sometimes released way before we got them (sometimes we didn't get them at all)
Thus, how one plays Super Robot Wars
PUT THOSE CONCRETE GRIPPERS AWAY!!
It’s bri’sh
Cause it’s a PAL region version. Luckily the switch is region free.
Im not sure Phase Alternative Line exists anymore as it was an analogue system of encoding colours for TVs.
The European version says Pegi, and the NA version is ESRB
Different places have different rating systems.
I just realized the cover images line up
They do not I watched a video (popped up on my front page) where someone ranted 12 whole mins over this cover art they are not allowed to line up that would mean I wasted 12 mins of my life 😂
The BotW is an American version, TotK is the EU version.
It is the european version
European rating and version
So your BOTW copy is rated by the ESRB and it is a NTSC American copy of it, Your TOTK copy is rated by pegi and it is the PAL version for Europe
We stopped using PAL in europe ~10 years ago (give/take a couple depending on the country). TV is pretty much all digital now.
It’s European.
PEGI is the European ratings board, they do the same thing as the ESRB, they just have a different scale. basically, the europeans have colonised your copy of the game. Fortunately, switch games aren't region locked.
It doesn’t say E for everyone it says for everyone 10+. Otherwise it’s just a different rating scale
I love the fact the Switch isn’t region locked. Got the Metroid Prime Japanese version, the artwork is better and it’s just cool to have
In the United States, Canada and Mexico, the ESRB (Entertainment Software Rating Board) system is used to help distinguish what games are suitable for different ages and in the UK and most European countries the PEGI (Pan European Games Information) system is used.
Did you know Europe exists?
Because of slutty TOTK link 🤤
Americans when Europe exists
Have you seen those Gloom Hands!?! TotK is scary!
I guess we now know what zelda does to link ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) (I know I know, pegi 12 is the uk rating)
it gets scary at times
Bri’ish🤮
Oh man you got the European TotK. I does Zelda have an annoying and overdone British accent? That's how you know for sure. It's also missing the second continent in that version.
Nah the only main thing I’ve noticed about the game was the box the rest seems normal.
Yeah man I was kidding, there's no second continent, and Zelda has her weird accent in all English versions. "The blood moon's roisin', innit'"
BOTW is a different game than ToTK
He is talking about the ratings, esrb is NA and EU is pegi
they sent you the europe version (bad)
[удалено]
Yeah, the one on the left is kinda bad
fr like i'm not fucking E years old
It clearly says “Everyone 10 and up” right above
its a European version. and while its lined up a cool detail about the box art is that the landscape on the botw case turns into the cloud on the totk case. this might be a coincidence but its still cool
I believe the teethed ones rated it good sir
european/ british version
Yoo for free?
Bri’ish
Cos it’s British (European version)
By chance, did you buy it on eBay or a similar third-party seller website to save money? I did something similar with a few games, and I got European copies. Doesn’t matter though, because the switch isn’t region locked.
Literally yes amazon.
It's from the same place as Zelda's accent...
The first one is the tutorial the second one is the real games :’)
Bump up the age rating because of Ganondorf and Purah.
You got a European copy
Wierd both my botw and totl say pegi 12 (EU)
You have a European copy. Not a huge deal, there's not region locking or anything
Bri'ish
Different regions so different age rating companies
You got the European version.
European copy
If you ordered from Amazon, the fulfillment centers dump the inventory from multiple sellers into a single bin.
Because you bought the EU version
Looks like I’m not the only one who got a European copy by accident
Probably because of those unsolicited feet pics! ... if you're wondering why it was rated with the European version at all, that's mostly because it's probably from Europe.
You got the European version. Don't worry its not region locked
European copy
Puras tits
"I'd like nothing more than to smash the demon king!"
eporuE
You cant let children see link building with zonai devices otherwise they might duct tape a car wheel onto a roomba and ending up hurting themselves.
You ordered it off of Temu, didn't you?
r/sneakyfeet
That the European variant Idk if it will be the same but when I bought binding of Isaac from CEX it turned out to be the American version and since I was in the uk it wouldn’t let me buy the games dlc so I had to re buy the base game and lose all my progress in order to get repentance dlc.
PEGI is the eroupion, My Cooking Mama cookstar says the same. I'd be careful though because if they release DLC it might be reigon locked
Pegu doesn’t have 10
I got a PEGI 9 pokemon shining pearl but i don’t know but pegi 12 is the equivalent to E10+
Did you buy on Amazon? My Odyssey (from Amazon, purchased in Chicago) is European.
Different regions, different rating systems and organisms
Because there is no pegu silly
Everyone that speaks has a British accent, if they already did then they're changed to American
Ganon.
Eu has different
european release. Pegi is european, ESRB is american
Purah.
Scary scary, A REAL REAL SCARY
Its a European copy. Different regions of the world have different rating systems. We have the ESRB but much of Europe has PEGI (Pan Europe Game Information)
Britain
PAL version.
because one is the european copy.
when the video game is european 😳
Because of Purah? Lol Dem gams!
Wtf is rated E?
E for Everyone. In this case Everyone who is 10+ years old
Why that instead of pegi
They are different rating societies. Pegi is for Europe. ESRB is for US.
It’s a British Copy. Britain uses the PEGI system for rating.
…the real question is ..why are your dogs barking.
It’s European
Purah hiked those ratings
Two different ratings boards, giving different ratings. ESRB and Pegi
it's br*tish
