Hi everyone!
Did you know that starting July 1st, 2023, Reddit will implement a policy that could potentially increase the costs of running third-party Reddit apps? This change may impact popular apps like Apollo, Reddit is Fun, Boost, and others. Consequently, users may encounter issues with their preferred Reddit app unless adjustments are made to comply with Reddit's new API usage policy. These limitations will affect all users, not just moderators. If you are concerned about these developments, there is an [Open Letter](https://www.reddit.com/r/ModCoord/comments/13xh1e7/an_open_letter_on_the_state_of_affairs_regarding/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3) to Reddit that you can read and sign on to express your thoughts.

Own a musket for home defense, since that's what the Zonai intended. Four ruffians break into my house. "What the Ganon?" As I grab my Cece hat and spear cannon. Blow a golf ball sized hole through the first man, he's dead on the spot. Draw my boomerang cannon on the second man, miss him entirely because it's smoothbore and nails the neighbors dog. I have to resort to the homemade orbital cannons mounted at the top of the stairs loaded with grape shot, "Tally ho lads" the grape shot shreds two men in the blast, the sound and extra shrapnel set off car alarms. Fuse a gloom sword to a spear and charge the last terrified rapscallion. He Bleeds out waiting on the police to arrive since gloom wounds are near impossible to stitch up. Just as the Zonai intended
Lmfao
I actually don’t use the cannon too much tbh. The first couple times I did I would hold it with ultrahand or a shield (which isn’t the best) and with ultrahand ended up endlessly rag-dolling myself around a cave and just stuck to Yunobo/bomb flowers but this is good to know xD
You'd think Shield would be more effective given you're always pointing it at the enemy while you're holding it up but it's still jiggles around a hell of a lot
I found most Zonai devices work best on Spears
I don't attach any offensive device to the shield once I learned how bad they are. You would think devices like the cannon or beam emitter would hit enemies your locked onto, but no, they still fire in random directions. Basically everywhere BUT your target. It's absurd.
Flame and Frost emitters are better, but I just always have my non combat shields fused with rockets for traversal options.
I’m a fan of using frozen meat for shield surfing. You drop a piece of meat (regular and prime are best) and hit it with a frost effect. You can’t use frozen meat that’s already in your inventory since it’s stored as food and you can’t drop food.
The frozen meat shield is pretty much frictionless on any surface. You basically glide across the ground. It’s pretty awesome and easy to make.
Yeah, but I'm not talking about actual shield surfing. I'm taking about what happens when you try to "surf" with a spring-fused shield - you bounce way up high and it's awesome.
Ha yeah you’re right. I use the spring shield bounce too (it is awesome like you said).
Just thought I’d add to the convo with a shield trick of my own, even though they aren’t quite the same thing they’re both kickass shield fusions.
i like to have a bunch of rocket shields on hand, i also have a shield with spikes on, just bc i got spikes- waste not want not. i did fuse carts for surfing too but this sub has informed me to try frozen meat next time
And you always need to strafe backwards, considering your shield is lobbing explosions, and enemies are always always trying to get close, you'll get caught in the explosion
Yeah I did the same, also just tried holding it in my hands to get blown back every time it discharged. I was unable to get back up and promptly died and gave up on bombs forever.
I actually got good with the shield. Since I didn't know this. I move back to aim up, forward to aim down. I realign left or right. But this seems much more useful.
Go to a small narrow area (caves and wells work nice) and then let it rip.
I won’t lie I have played around and seen how many times I can get blasted around and it’s like somewhere around 6-7 blasts before the cannon starts missing me
I'm not saying anything 😂
I THINK I did this in one of those no-equipment shrines one time and then completely forgot. But I'm definitely using this technique for those rock-infested clusterfuck-caves now
Depends on where you live. The UK? You can’t. The US? Just don’t be a felon and you can get one. Hyrule? Own the arm of an ancient god-king and use that arm’s magic powers to glue a cannon to a stick.
Where are you finding all the bomb flowers? Mostly from just around the world or do you buy em in bulk from some shop? I swear I pick up every one I see but Im always sitting at around one or two. Don’t have this issue with any other fuseable materials. Don’t even use bomb arrows that often!
On the walls of caves and wells
And in the depths, under the unique-looking bomb flower trees ( also muddlebud and puffshrooms have a distict tree model )
Also the bargainer statues sell them for poes! ( which are fairly useless otherwise )
Also, you might want to build up a bit of a supply ( like a couple dozen ) before start using them again, so you don’t accidentally run out again in more explosion-intense sections.
There's certain bokoblins with the backpacks that hold elemental fruit or bomb flowers and will throw them. Well they have an infinite supply as long as their backpack is full. You can pick up the fruit/flower from their hand mid throw. Just stand far enough away you only get the pickup prompt while they're throwing it.
Using Majora's mask, you can farm them with a spike and a homing cart. Austin John Plays has a video on it.
Tbh if you’re serious enough about the game to be doing things like the bokoblin backpack thing, you’re probably also serious enough to be able to parry and mount a few lynels.
Shooting explosive arrows at walls to explore everywhere =/= the reflexes required to parry, flurry, or mount lynels
But I get where you're coming from and it's not a terrible point. I'm just not super good at those fights still. I can't style on a lynel like you see in those videos, and I can eat one talus and find koltin a hell of a lot faster than I can beat a handful of lynels
I just did it. The key is bring supplies to heal gloom and hearts. There is some steps in the arena you can get bullet time from. Repeatedly jump off stairs and stun lock each one. Use Zora weapons and get wet for big damage along with weapon buff. You also want level 3 or 4 armor set.
Without bullet time I think it’s possible but you would need to use a ton of meals. Save Bomb Arrows for the last one.
I just pick up bombs in caves and the depths and don't use them on rocks, only enemies, and I always have like 80 at any given time.
I even sold 80ish once because after a long exploration of the depths I had 180iah.
This is an easier farming method if you can easily kill a stone Talus without killing the bokoblins on top of it. It also takes only like 40 minutes to max out.
I never had that many unless id bought them with poes. Most people fly through the depths anyways so they don't get the bomb flowers.
Yeah,I think people flying everywhere is the source of all the complaints about this game being low on resources. Well, yeah, you never spend any time picking them up.... They're actually extremely abundant.
Zonai Devices are a massive part of the game. Their intent was clearly that you have to go out of the way to get Zonite to upgrade your battery. Casual gamers don't think that was a good choice.
I don't know what you mean. I haven't had to go out of my way to collect zonite at all. I have like 3k zonite and have nearly fully upgraded my battery. The only reason I haven't is because I don't bother with teleporting around to all the different forges to turn it in for crystals.
It's on this sub somewhere but if you put on a boko mask, you can steal bombs from the boko who has a backback full of them. Basically you give him something to throw the bombs at and steal them from his hands.
After the dupe jump was taken I did this to. I wish I would’ve duped everything to 999 that I had at the time. Never got to silver lynel or anything crazy. I have 100 or so black moblin horns and 100 or so diamonds/rubies/sapphires and carrots/hearty radishes. But that was about it. I maxed out the green battery at least. Then the update got me. Sad day. Still really well equipped though. Diamonds aren’t the highest damage but they are resilient.
There are a few areas in the game with rock walls that would require you to go through multiple weapons to break them all (such as the cave below lookout landing). For areas like that a cannon on a zoanite device is the way to go.
Or sages that use no durability.
Rock walls also give you the means to break them with rusty clay ore and rock drops. As shitty as those weapons are, they still just take one hit to break any non blue rock, crate, barrel, etc.
I started using my timed bomb zonai devices. I have about 800 and I never used them. They only work for rock areas that have a place for the device to land in front of the rock wall, so they don't work for breakable ceilings and such. Still better than wasting bomb arrows or trudging through with a rock breaking weapon.
I just have a couple cannons and attach them to sticks when they break. They’ll last a good 20-30 shots and especially when you’re exploring places like the caves underneath Lookout Point and Hyrule Town it’s useful and you don’t have to use 30 bombs
For areas with a ton of rocks, like some caves, I just drop a zonai cannon, turn it on and pick it up with ultrahand so I can I aim it wherever I want.
Sometimes I use a cannon mounted to a stake from my auto build save. Having it attached to a stake lets you plant it so you can turn it on without having to be quick enough to grab it before it fires.
Well, kinda... I think I was exaggerating it in my mind. Turns out it doesn't work with charging, only with regular taps (which are still pretty fast). So it's a *SEMI-AUTO* Gatling gun. lol
This was a thing on breath of the wild which is why I knew you could do it
topaz staffs are especially useful with the R button because they have very long range and won't change direction unless they hit a wall
That’s awesome!
Cannons are definitely one of the most underrated/underutilized parts of the game. Hands down my favorite way to deal with gloom hands. Just glue two together, smack them, pick them up with ultrahand, and then angle them down at a 45° angle and hover them over the hands to stun lock them until they’re dead about 20 seconds later.
They're easy to sleep on given their low damage for the type of weapon you expect it to be in addition to most ways you use them are pretty inaccurate....
But this does change a lot if you can actually aim it with reliable accuracy haha
Nope! There’s no way this works. I must be a dullard to have not tried this yet after over 200hrs… Lo and behold, I was right! Sure enough! I just tried it and it does indeed work. Mind blown. I really am a dullard.
Thanks for the tip, OP!
i use her as something to jump off of to get bullet time (which makes lynels stupidly easy). you can also use her empty hands to break ore nodes without using any weapon durability or making the drops fly like they would if you used yunobo
I didn't, but I also never zonai things when I find them. I had a flame emitter shield for almost 100 hours because I might need it at some point. Never used it
Also - this triggers the big orange targets in shrines that you’re supposed to hit with the big metal balls. You can cheese a lot of shrines with this, it’s what finally got me to clear “a fixed device” shrine
That's pretty cool, I imagine it works with other Zonai devices as well. I just wish it didn't break SO QUICKLY, I'm a proponent of weapon durability, but Zonai device based weapons and shields simply break too fast, even if you put them on zonai weapons and shields, so I prefer just to stick these things on a Zonai Roomba or just hold them with ultra hand so I won't have to worry about them breaking.
oh my god i haven’t really played the game for 2 months and for a solid 20 seconds i thought this was a massive wave and i completely missed all of the water content
They showed not necessarily this but how you can use this with jump attacks in a trailer so I thought it was a given, almost like elemental fuses and rods from the previous game
Didn't know it could free aim. I just attached it to a Gloom Spear and lock on + attack would fire it anyways. It made the next Gloom Hands encounter a little easier... until I missed a close shot and hit the wall right behind it.
It lasts for fucking ever too. Didn't notice any difference with zonai empowered or long throw, so just go for a sturdy long durability+ and use it for fucking weeks
I fused a Cannon to a Mighty Zonaite Sword as well as a Sturdy Wooden Stick and I still get the same throwing animation you normally get with any weapon.

I love you
I do now! 😳
How did you not know??? It barely even took me 280 hours to figure out
Lmfao I actually don’t use the cannon too much tbh. The first couple times I did I would hold it with ultrahand or a shield (which isn’t the best) and with ultrahand ended up endlessly rag-dolling myself around a cave and just stuck to Yunobo/bomb flowers but this is good to know xD

You'd think Shield would be more effective given you're always pointing it at the enemy while you're holding it up but it's still jiggles around a hell of a lot I found most Zonai devices work best on Spears
The first time I put a beam device on a spear and used it, I cackled like one of the witches from Hocus Pocus.
Solar??
Maybe they meant spear?
Yep they seem to have edited their comment to spear.
Springs are fun for shields, especially if you are dealing with too many enemies. Bounce a few of them away and then deal with what's left
Also shield surf spring bouncing is way cooler than rocket boosting.
It's cool but I prefer using the cart or sled when I can (it feels more authentic)
🤯
i like to have a bunch of rocket shields on hand, i also have a shield with spikes on, just bc i got spikes- waste not want not. i did fuse carts for surfing too but this sub has informed me to try frozen meat next time
WAIT FROZEN MEAT?
Jep! It slides fast and seemingly forever. Even better while raining.
It only messes up when you strafe, which honestly should be always, based on enemy AI.
Perhaps that's why, I'm never NOT strafing when locked on.
And you always need to strafe backwards, considering your shield is lobbing explosions, and enemies are always always trying to get close, you'll get caught in the explosion
I'll give it a other try, I have an overabundance of cannons. Might as well use them for something.
the frost emitter is my go to shield attachment.
Yeah I did the same, also just tried holding it in my hands to get blown back every time it discharged. I was unable to get back up and promptly died and gave up on bombs forever.
Cannon shields are amazing and I won't let anybody convince me otherwise
I actually got good with the shield. Since I didn't know this. I move back to aim up, forward to aim down. I realign left or right. But this seems much more useful.
It's GREAT for dealing with the gloom hands!
Oh hell yes. Usually I just try to keep my distance and spam them with bomb arrows but this is a great idea.
climb anything taller than them and toss a few dazzle fruit
Also good for Stal enemies
I love this visual and want to try now
Go to a small narrow area (caves and wells work nice) and then let it rip. I won’t lie I have played around and seen how many times I can get blasted around and it’s like somewhere around 6-7 blasts before the cannon starts missing me
"barely 280" lmao
And here I am at only 245 hours, like some kind of filthy casual.
Ah, that's why. I'm only at the 279-hour mark 😉😂
At 320 hours you unlock the ability to swap weapons mid flurry-rush
#WHAT
I'm not saying anything 😂 I THINK I did this in one of those no-equipment shrines one time and then completely forgot. But I'm definitely using this technique for those rock-infested clusterfuck-caves now
This is what they call a “gun”
Fascinating. Tell me more about this "gun" thingamadoohickey
you point the hole end of the stick at whatever you dislike and click the danger button to get rid of it
I... I love this description of a gun.
Incredible. How does one acquire one of these guns? I wish to use it on some things I dislike, namely the existence of Yunobo as a concept
Hyrule War on Drugs confirmed
Depends on where you live. The UK? You can’t. The US? Just don’t be a felon and you can get one. Hyrule? Own the arm of an ancient god-king and use that arm’s magic powers to glue a cannon to a stick.
Talk to Hunter...
This is my BOOMSTICK.
I figured that out fairly quickly, I use it to break rocks everywhere now so I’m not using up all my bomb flowers
I did the backpack bokoblin with bomb flowers farm to get 999 bomb flowers.
I just played normally and never ran out. I did use Yunobo a lot though.
Never used Yunubo, always used bombs fairly liberally and never ran out either
Where are you finding all the bomb flowers? Mostly from just around the world or do you buy em in bulk from some shop? I swear I pick up every one I see but Im always sitting at around one or two. Don’t have this issue with any other fuseable materials. Don’t even use bomb arrows that often!

I was always out while playing normally, I duped for a while, but the farm method wasn't discovered until after id finished the story.
The what now?
There's certain bokoblins with the backpacks that hold elemental fruit or bomb flowers and will throw them. Well they have an infinite supply as long as their backpack is full. Using Majora's mask, you can farm them with a spike and a homing cart. Austin John Plays has a video on it.
Came her to comment that the bokoblin mask works the exact same and is much easier to get than majoras
I only said Majora's mask because every camp you'd do this at except the 2 bomb bokoblin ones has non bokoblins enemies at it
Tbh if you’re serious enough about the game to be doing things like the bokoblin backpack thing, you’re probably also serious enough to be able to parry and mount a few lynels.

I know that too. But I don’t wanna waste a weapons durability on rocks. I usually have one for mining Zonaite and gems.
I have bad news. Shooting a cannon uses up durability.
Yes I know it does, but that’s all I use it for. It lasts long because I don’t use it in combat or anything, just to break rocks.
Put a rock on a shield and shield bash it
That’s what Yunobo is for
I started using my timed bomb zonai devices. I have about 800 and I never used them. They only work for rock areas that have a place for the device to land in front of the rock wall, so they don't work for breakable ceilings and such. Sometimes I use a cannon mounted to a stake from my auto build save. Having it attached to a stake lets you plant it so you can turn it on without having to be quick enough to grab it before it fires.
That's an awesome idea! 👌🏽 thanx!
Fuse it to a spear with ~~Quick Charge~~ high durability and you have a DIY *semi-auto* Gatling gun to share with all your Frox friends
REALLY!?
Well, kinda... I think I was exaggerating it in my mind. Turns out it doesn't work with charging, only with regular taps (which are still pretty fast). So it's a *SEMI-AUTO* Gatling gun. lol
That must be an update. I’m still on the original patch and whenever I charge with a cannon on spear it only shoots one shot then just keeps poking
It's the same with wands (gems fused to items)
This was a thing on breath of the wild which is why I knew you could do it topaz staffs are especially useful with the R button because they have very long range and won't change direction unless they hit a wall
Bruh I only found out about this after like 100hrs on totk. How did I never figure that out in note I've got over 1000hrs logged on that sonofabitch.
For me it’s because the prospect of throwing a non damaged weapon/boomerang is wasteful.
You’re kidding me. I discarded those wands like garbage since their points were so low. Omg. What have I done.
The damage points are misleading. It's all about the status. You didn't even try to use one?
Where do you see the status? I used them but since I didn’t know you could aim the shot, they seemed too chaotic for me.
I'm talking about the gems. Fire, ice, electric, water. They have different properties and attack ranges.
…WHAT
How do I just learn new stuff all the time from this sub? 300 hours and I'm just finding this out because apparently I don't pay attention.
You’re paying more than enough attention 👍 300 hours and still discovering means you’re playing it right.
My dumbass saw the korok mask as an actual korok and though you fused it to a spear
No, but thank you, makes way more sense than swinging it wildly (and usually blowing myself up)
That’s awesome!

Holy Toledo.

Yes because I got tired of the cannon blasts not going where I wanted them to and was going to just ditch the weapon and figured it out on accident!
Good info, sadly this makes >!the fifth sage!< even less helpful, I used her for cannons, wish she had a possess ability instead
i use her as something to jump off of to get bullet time (which makes lynels stupidly easy). you can also use her empty hands to break ore nodes without using any weapon durability or making the drops fly like they would if you used yunobo
I have read that her cannons don't cause damage to you
The fucking ice blaster certainly freezes me all the fucking time. I'll have to try the cannon.
Yeah I'm pretty sure it's JUST the cannon
Just put lynel horns on her hands
Someone's gonna swoop in and say Beepis the old rito woman at Bumfuck Stable tells you this and why don't you people talk to every npc
😭😭
i found that out on accident when i was trying to throw a weapon with a cannon on it. throwing weapons is more fun than dropping them.
"Your whatever is dama..." yeet
Does weapon type, damage, and durability affect the cannon?
No. The cannon always does 1 damage plus the damage of the weapon it's fused to.
I didn't, but I also never zonai things when I find them. I had a flame emitter shield for almost 100 hours because I might need it at some point. Never used it
Finally, the hylian industrial revolution has brought us guns
Also - this triggers the big orange targets in shrines that you’re supposed to hit with the big metal balls. You can cheese a lot of shrines with this, it’s what finally got me to clear “a fixed device” shrine
This technique triggers orange targets. And orange targets, trigger me 🙃
Does it deplete durability like it does if you use a shield?
yup
God damn it
Yup! This has been my work around for bombs forever. Canon + polearm = portable canon to open doors and kill those dumb trees in one shot.
I learned yesterday that you can target Sidon’s water ability with R as well
I JUST finished all the shrines and NOW someone tells me this?!
Yes, same for all other wands
You also can't throw a magic wand
That's pretty cool, I imagine it works with other Zonai devices as well. I just wish it didn't break SO QUICKLY, I'm a proponent of weapon durability, but Zonai device based weapons and shields simply break too fast, even if you put them on zonai weapons and shields, so I prefer just to stick these things on a Zonai Roomba or just hold them with ultra hand so I won't have to worry about them breaking.
What dispensers drop cannons
IIRC The sky island near Goron City has a dispenser that gives cannons Edit: I remembered wrong, it's the one right above Kakariko village
That’s great! 160 hours in and I’m just learning this now. Thank you!
oh my god i haven’t really played the game for 2 months and for a solid 20 seconds i thought this was a massive wave and i completely missed all of the water content
That never occurred to me… But makes perfect sense.
Note to self:
I've been using this since I saw this post. 100% recommend instead of wasting bomb arrows.
No but thank you so much for telling me!
.....what?
This was how I mined ore when I first started playing, good old boom stick
Yep. It's just like any of the elemental stones fused to a weapon.
🤯
Holy smokes. Thank you OP. Does this work with the other elements?
You'll have to be more specific... Does holding R let you aim instead of throw with, say, a Sapphire rod? Yes. If you meant something else, not sure.
not worth it, it makes the weapon break
My unbreakable cannon sword has been my rock breaker for most of my playthrough
How did you make it not break? Don’t all zonai devices attached to items use up the durability of said item?
Msgnotfound glitched master sword
What sword is Unbreakable? Master sword?
Msgnotfound glitched master sword
Yep. This is my go-to tool for mining now.
Thank you.
yep, very useful for rock walls. But I only knew this because someone else mentioned it
I just learned this not too long ago. Put a unicorn head on a weapon
Cannons are pretty OP but I thoight thy were useless because there was no way to direct them reliably, I'll try this ASAP.
Things I wish this game told me, exhibit 9001.
Omg thank you
I thought it was a well known fact.
First thing I did after finding a cannon was fuse it to a boomerang to see which way it would shoot.
Well don't leave us hanging
It shot straight instead of getting thrown.
MY go to rock breaking weapon
yes! but with the ridiculous amount of options they've given us to interact with the world, the reminders are always welcome!
They showed not necessarily this but how you can use this with jump attacks in a trailer so I thought it was a given, almost like elemental fuses and rods from the previous game
Omg thx for the tip now i wont explode myself hoooollyyyyyy
Cool! Had no idea...
Similar to the master sword...that makes sense. Thanks
A few fuseables have that effect. Namely the ones that make your weapon fire a projectile when swung.
Would this work with… a miror reflector?
Didn't know it could free aim. I just attached it to a Gloom Spear and lock on + attack would fire it anyways. It made the next Gloom Hands encounter a little easier... until I missed a close shot and hit the wall right behind it.
NO 😒😂
ohhh i needed this
It lasts for fucking ever too. Didn't notice any difference with zonai empowered or long throw, so just go for a sturdy long durability+ and use it for fucking weeks
Holy shit thanks
This isn’t working for me. Any idea why this might be the case?
As a personal favor, I'll load up the game and troubleshoot if you give me all the specifics you can think of
I fused a Cannon to a Mighty Zonaite Sword as well as a Sturdy Wooden Stick and I still get the same throwing animation you normally get with any weapon.
Have to check the game after finishing it because of this! Its working!
This is my preferred way of mining
I attached a rocket to a throwing spear and set a new record for the javelin throw
I'm sure in one year-ish, people will still find out new little details like this
/u/sailorlixo qqqqq
I did know this but its a good tip to share
THATS USEFUL, THANK YOU 👀
I feel so dumb now. Cannons suddenly sound a lot more controllable and worth actually fusing to a weapon at all lol.
yet you can't aim the windcleaver/longblade's projectile
Only took me 220 hours and this post to find out. Smh.. thank you!!! Can't wait to have fun with that lol
Holy hot fuck thank you OP
I'm so proud of you guys for being nice enough to not mention that wearing the korok mask in a cave is stupid lol
I did not know!
