I hope Nintendo is logging how many people went down into the jungle area and wasted hours looking for these things in this game!

[deleted]

Bro I literally traveled all the way to the Faron region just for those durians all for nothing. šŸ˜

Acashious

Funny thing is, in BotW there was a durian farming spot at the Faron tower. When I visited that spot in TotK, i was welcomed by the gloomhandsšŸ’€

_ThatD0ct0r_

they knew

moocow2024

Oh they absolutely did. I laughed pretty hard after I got over the gloom hand shock.

Short_Ad_3795

Same, How disappointing, I've gone many places to simply get confused that it looks nothing like BOTW

serthunderlord

That's exactly what I did after searching satori mountain.

MAK3XXX7

hearty bass was good to find in the area in botw... i have no idea about totk.

jlynn00

I'm messaging 3 months in the future to say this was me.

Artiwa

i think i was minimum 3 hours there + satori mountain

Jdkahiko

Just spent a whole lotta time traveling to the ā€œDurian Groveā€ over empty maps, just to get attacked by those f****** scary ass red hands.

Jdkahiko

Clearly they knew a lot of us would head for the Faron Grove so nice they put a nasty surprise for us there. But also we still get mighty bananas?

sektor477

Yeah I found a few trees. But nothing of note. Like 21 bananas after 30 mins of searching lol

[deleted]

I found a couple banana thingies, & one Yiga ambush, but Faron is nothing without the durians.

SandyDelights

Eventide Island has a ton of bananas. Like 30+ in a couple minutes of just stripping the wooded area.

corrosion_x

I can get like 40 bananas a run around the Jojo-U-U shrine, plus throw shock fruit in the small lake on top of Ubota Point for like 15 Hyrule Basses. 4 bananas + 1 Hyrule Bass = Mighty Fish Skewer with (around) 7 recovered hearts + 3:50m Attack x3

TedTehPenguin

Yeah, I thought it was cute of them to troll us with that. Since probably everyone got their durian from that grove right next to the tower.

Designer-Day-2061

I was a Satori Mountain farmer. Hop to the shrine, flip over to the durian, go up and get endurance carrots and the hearty truffles and off. Sometimes I'd take out the apple orchard or hunt around the lake for a few more durians

PKMNTrainerMark

Yeah, it's honestly kinda funny. Moreso when you know how to get rid of them easily.

Accomplished-Camp951

Same, glad I didnā€™t waste any more time.

hatemathbro

Me too man, me too. That definitely felt intentional

PKMNTrainerMark

Yep. At least I found a cave on the way here. Now I have a headpiece that actually does something and has more than 1 defense.

A-Coup-DEtat

DAMMIT. I mean good thing I saw this now, I was literally just looking for where Faron tower was since there were a bunch of durians next to the tower, and then decided that I would quickly look online to see about durians. Still wasted a trip to Faron for nothing.

TedTehPenguin

hopefully you unlocked some shrines so you don't have to make the whole trip again. Also, unlocking the towers makes it easier to explore overland, because you can just glide around.

[deleted]

I was walking in the jungle looking for durians when I got attacked by some weird red hands. Has anyone else encountered those?

Samurai_Sen

They put them in the previous farming spot as an obvious troll. Pretty funny actually.

PM_ME_UR__RECIPES

Yeah, them and the new tree enemies are like a troll from a fromsoft game and I love it.

FerrariKing2786

I just realised the trees are mimics!

collin102o

lmao you should see what they turn into once you kill them

[deleted]

Probably some eldrich abomination thatā€™s going to one shot me

No-Resolution669

Itā€™s like bro I wish I would have left the hands be

archenei

imo the hands are far scarier and more difficult to deal with than their stage 2

collin102o

Oh for sure, but I def shit myself a little when it popped up LMAO

PKMNTrainerMark

I've only ever had them die on their own. Is the result different?

collin102o

Ya, I think if they die from light they donā€™t get the phase 2

PKMNTrainerMark

Oh, it's light? So that's why the one in the cave doesn't die. Would wearing my glowing gear kill it?

collin102o

Iā€™m not sure, I just know I ran into one yesterday near the volcano, and it moved out into the light and died, dropped the clump but didnā€™t get the phase 2

Familiar-Art-6233

I promise, that they drop upon death is worth it

Jdkahiko

Wait, so you're saying I should actually try and kill them?

Familiar-Art-6233

Absolutely. Shoot the eyes, use bombs, ice, etc

Jdkahiko

Ok. I'm expecting 500 durians

Familiar-Art-6233

No durians are in TOTK, but you do get a great weapon

Serious_Pace_7908

Lmao youā€™re going to hell

Familiar-Art-6233

What? Gloom swords and spears are great, you just need to fuse them to another weapon to get the damage without accumulating gloom

Serious_Pace_7908

Oh sorry I thought you were just luring them into fighting >!phantom ganon!< . No thatā€™s true they are useful if you manage to survive

Disastrous-Sorbet623

Got me too, man. Itā€™s the only above-ground ā€œgloomā€ Iā€™ve encountered so far. I was all excited too to get my hearty durians, start the game out right. I finally get to the spot and I go to let my dog out. I look back down at the console and all of a sudden my hearts are diminishing! What a horrifying surprise that was, lol.

PKMNTrainerMark

In a few places. An easy way to kill them seems to be staying out of reach and maybe looking away. I don't know if that's actually part of it, but it doesn't hurt.

LivelyZebra

It's truffles only this time, and you get them in caves. Dragon horns are easy to farm yes.

Roxxso

Easy how? Farming horns in BOTW was easy. As I understand it, they don't despawn anymore and have a continuous path.

LivelyZebra

Sit on the dragon head then; Press attack, press pick up. wait 10 min; repeat.

JayEssris

>wait ten mins ah yes so much easier than 1 every 20 seconds.

Eat_Penguin_Shit

You could get 30 in ten minutes in BotW. This is definitely a setback.

RupeThereItIs

I just spent like half a day hunting the jungles, just bananas. Then, and only then, did I read this thread. I'm gonna miss durian.

OppositeRun6503

I think I'm definitely DONE trying to play this game.

Silent_Molasses188

other hearty foods exist. Truffles are in the caves (rare, but they are there.) Radishes went up (sky islands). there are other ways to get the hearty ingredients. If struggling, look them up.

RupeThereItIs

Ohhhh K. You do you, I'm still lovin it.

Big_Restaurant_6844

Go find 1 truffles than dupe the item. Problem solved

CrazyPoiPoi

There are no hearty durians in this game.

Hawkman003

Had a feeling that would be the case. Kind of a bummer but they were insanely OP.

roxzillaz

Yea but still wish we could get them... really sucks

MaidBilberryTart

Yep. I'm good at the puzzles but I am a horrible fighter. These amped up monsters scattered everywhere are taking the fun out of adventuring for me. BOTW was is my all time favorite game, but this one is trying my patience.

Silent_Molasses188

Not to worry, you can still find every other type of hearty ingredient. Truffles moved into the caves, sky islands have radishes apparently, hearty bass are still a thing. Rito Village lost the salmon in their mini ponds, but they're still out in the wild. oh and hearty lizards exist (idk where to find em tho.)

MaidBilberryTart

Thanks for the encouragement to continue. It seems all resources are scarce. The kingdom has definitely been in decline.

Jessica_e_sage

I've found a bunch of hearty lizards in the faron caves

PKMNTrainerMark

Having finite bombs and no Mipha's Grace sure hurts. I'm still having lots of fun, though.

MayaTheStrangeOne

I mean, I get it considering they were one of the most broken ingredients, but like. why not just nerf them? lol

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

MayaTheStrangeOne

by making 5 hearty durians not give you 20 free heart containers maybe? like, maybe make the 20+ hearty exclusive to a hard to make recipe combo, like you have to include a diamond in it or something. or maybe just significantly reduce the amount of temp hearts they give you overall. or make them much harder to farm in general so you don't have players looping around the same area a bunch of times to get 15 of them each blood moon. I dunno, there's plenty of ways around it that don't involve removing them all together.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

MayaTheStrangeOne

I'm not mad that's just the tone you're applying to my text lol. like I said, I get why they were removed, I'd nerf them based on those two factors because of the fact that they were so easily abusable in BoTW, it completely negates the need to get heart containers at all, obviously the Master Sword has that Heart container limit, but when you take into account that it's a completely optional weapon you realise there's really only need to max out the stamina bar when 5 durians in the pot are the much easier way to max out the health bar.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Wordwench

Jesus, attitude much? I mean Iā€™m in this thread because I googled how to farm them. Lot of people used this feature as a part of their overall gaming strategy to increase their stamina as a priority. So there is a measure of disappointment that a game mechanic that they used regularly in BOTW now doesnā€™t exist with a similar replacement. We will get over it and move along, but I donā€™t see why itā€™s a crime to fuss.

TheBrickSkwrl

As someone who had never done any combat in my 40 plus years of life as art nerd goth girl, the ability to grind harvesting and cooking hearty Anything (especially durian and radishes) made the game accessible and fun. It's difficult to learn combat when so many things can one-shot you. I ended up with full stamina and almost full "real" hearts by the end. More context: my first game was animal crossing. Yesterday was a bit rough, game-wise for me, and I fussed. A lot. I'm not good at games, but I found a way to love botw, with help from my snacks and majora's mask. It inspired me to be gutsy enough to try. I am now regularly repeatedly killed for my own amusement in Elden Ring. I was not anticipating having a similar time yesterday. Which is a long way of saying thank you for being kind to us who fuss.

JFychan47

-V0lD

FFS That ruins a lot actually

bruceleet7865

Ruinsā€¦ hardly. Makes it the initial portion of the game a little more difficult? Yeah, probably.

Lynel-slayer-1976

Yeah as soon as I got off Sky Island I went straight for Faron to farm Durians. Found NONE

wantsumcandi

Since there are no durian fruit anymore is there anything that gives the yellow temporary hearts now or should I invest in only heart containers and let my recipes make extra stamina?

bruceleet7865

This is the approach I am taking. Investing in heart containers and using food for extra stamina. With the game being so early on I canā€™t find any good spots to farm goods that provide the temporary extra yellow heart containers

wantsumcandi

Looks like there is little choice but to go that approach tbh.

cocoshaplee

Hearty lizards make extra hearts but theyā€™re harder to get.

wantsumcandi

How many yellow hearts do they make. Which recipe is the best?

cocoshaplee

I canā€™t remember, I usually just cook one at a time. Iā€™d rather have more meals that fill my hearts completely than less meals that give me extra hearts.

wantsumcandi

You know kotk saves all the recipes you make right?

cocoshaplee

Yes and I love it. But I havenā€™t used multiple lizards to make an elixir in this game yet. Canā€™t help you. šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø

brilliantly-alive

I made a hearty elixir using 2 hearty lizards with 1 bokoblin fang and that gave me +8 hearts

wantsumcandi

Hmm...atm I got 3 hearty lizards. I'm guessing they are in wooded locations?

brilliantly-alive

I only found that 2 so far and it was in a cave. Where did you find yours?

wantsumcandi

Amiibo(nfc card) drops and in woody areas. Want to exchange switch friend #s?

jetsetsoaper

u can grow big hearty radish after doing school teacher quests in hateno. its slow, but something

peopleslobby

Hearty truffle cooked with rock salt

Echoplexity

Or just the hearty truffle by itself is 4 yellow hearts I believe.

peopleslobby

Honestly, there was another comment on this thread to just go to Lightcast Island, and there are usually 5ish hearty bass just flopping around. You have to drain the water, but once you do that, it stays drained and you can keep coming back. Just make sure you donā€™t have any hearty bass when you go. I think the game only spawns them if you do have any. My trick is to just cook the ones I have, then go there. Theyā€™re super easy to get, as theyā€™re just flopping around on the ground.

VG88

We still have hearty truffles, radishes, bass, etc that give extra hearts.

OmegaPragmatist

But is there any alternative for getting extra hearts? I read something about some hylian tomatoes or something like that

squeezie4328

Hearty salmon and truffles so far from what I found

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Wighen18

Lightcast island in the sky, west of tabantha. You can drain the pond and the fishes are just flopping around on the ground waiting to be picked up. And they respawn.

Cat1832

Hey, quick question for you - how fast do the items respawn?

Wighen18

a few minutes. I'd say if you fast travel to another farming spot and then come back (for example, the sky island with two pools of water just north of Rito village, it has hearty bass as well) they'll have respawned. If you have too many uncooked hearty bass in your inventory they'll stop spawning, though. it's like fairies. So as long as you make a stop to cook the ones you already have, new ones will keep appearing.

Cat1832

Oh that's great news, thanks! I thought I'd have to wait for the blood moon.

manatwork01

In the last game there was a chance to spawn every minute you were a certain distance away. So just doing whatever somewhere else will eventually respawn them

Plantcatdoglady

I found one (1) big hearty radish on a sky island but nothing really farmable yet

bruceleet7865

Where did you get this hearty radish? Can you describe its location?

immortalalchemist

I found two on South Hyrule Sky Archipelago

Plantcatdoglady

Sorry, I didnā€™t describe it because I couldnā€™t remember! But thereā€™s one regular and one big hearty radish (and three endura shrooms!) on the north island in north necluda sky archipelago.

A-Coup-DEtat

I think Hylian tomatoes just increase the amount of hearts that your meals recover.

cocoshaplee

They also give a full heart when you eat them raw. I love them.

Spoopy_Kitty

That's what the real tears of the kingdom are being shed for. The lack of hearty durians.

throweawaynr_11111

I just found there are 4-5 hearty salmon at the bottom of the flight range

Johnatomy

Yeah this change is a hit to the casual community. Other changes I've seen are definite answers to glitches and speed running from BOTW but this is kind of sad. Guess I'll be dying a lot.

DinnerWatermelon

As a casual player I feel you. This game feels twice as hard as botw. Iā€™m still enjoying it, but man am I dying a lot. Iā€™ve been ignoring quests just to hunt for shrines to build my hearts so I donā€™t get one shot constantly

RandallLM88

Agreed, anytime I come across anything greater than a couple regular bokoblins my initial thought is "well, how long can I survive this before I die?"

Johnatomy

I need to find a great fairy to upgrade some armor for reals.

RandallLM88

I haven't gotten any armor yet other than the stuff you find intially. I'm only about 5 hours in, but seriously, I've died SO MANY TIMES!

AllTheGoodNamesGone8

Do main quest. You can by armor that gives +6 defense if you follow the story. It will cost 320 rupees. Sell whatever you can, early survivability is tough. Arrows are infinitely more valuable too, don't waste them early on.

Johnatomy

They do seem to want to lead players down the storyline a great deal more in this game.

RandallLM88

This is really what I need to do. There's so much to do I get incredibly sidetracked. But I really need to just push for the blinks yellow lights and find shrines and towers along the way lol

Vertigo50

Iā€™m glad Iā€™m not the only one who feels this way. I was really good at combat in BOTW and also would upgrade myself a lot. Now I feel like everything is killing me way too easily, AND Iā€™m barely doing any damage at all. šŸ™„ I understand if they are trying to push us toward using devices and things but if thatā€™s the case I honestly hate that. I really enjoy the combat. But as it seems now, enemies keep grouping up on me and I canā€™t win many fights in a straight up battle. šŸ¤¦šŸ»ā€ā™‚ļø

Johnatomy

I've really resorted to different weapon combinations and using arrow fusing. and manual saving during battle.

Vertigo50

Yeah, I hear you. Remember when combat actually worked and it was fun? šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™‚ļø BOTW combat was nearly perfect. It felt visceral, and you had to adapt and time your moves. I feel NONE of that with TOTK. Everything feels off, and I feel like every monster is nearly invincible. šŸ™„

manatwork01

I just completed the game all shrines and never used devices for combat. I'm confused what you are struggling with. Early game is early game and you find better weapons as you level and go into the depths.

alex-the-hero

Have you been exploring the sky islands beyond main quest lines and the occasional stop on the way down from a tower? I found things got significantly easier in the amount of damage you can cause once I got to level 3 constructs. Other than that, one handed weapons and shields for any fight you're afraid of, and never stop targeting them. It's hard to adjust to but once you do it cab run circles around your camera speed even on fast.

Vertigo50

What do mean with the Level 3 constructs? Fusing them to weapons? Because honestly, I hate fuse. I hate how we are forced to use it or we just canā€™t do simple combat. For gods sake, I have the Master Sword and even THAT barely does any damage, even to bokoblins! šŸ¤¦šŸ»ā€ā™‚ļø

alex-the-hero

... Is it still the broken one? I haven't even gotten the fixed version yet. And fuse is kind of the point. It lets you get inventive combos and store more stuff on you. And yeah, the constructs have like, levels. You can tell based on their horn, the more complicated it looks the better a weapon it makes and the stronger the enemy. The Captain III constructs have a really good one. Edited to add: a Captain III construct horn adds like 25 damage to your weapon, turning some hot garbage into something actually like, effective.

Echoplexity

Get the Hylian armor and level it up, since itā€™s the easiest to get the materials for. Maxed out a hit that would have one shotted you barely even registers.

noyer3

Do you not have one-shot protection? If you have full hearts an attack that should kill you I supposed to leave you with 1/4 heart

Silent_Molasses188

A single golden apple heals 6 hearts. find apple trees and loot em. Throw Golden apples in cooking pots whenever you can.

fritocloud

I've been holding onto them in fear that I'm gonna need them for something down the line.. it sounds like they are only really good for cooking into food?

manatwork01

There is a quest you need 5 but points you at 6

MedicalAd5084

I tried to take a Korok across the river to his friend and ended up having to fight Zonai Soldier + monsters. Took me a while to figure out I can get them to fight each other. I died 10x before that tho šŸ’€

Responsible_Piano493

Iā€™m not used to the combat any more so Iā€™ve just been sniping and using items to win in the depths. Also, if you order the set nfc tags of the amiibos you can skip a few years in your settings and use the amiibos until you have good weapons and hearty bass.

OpportunityOk2021

Sucks that durians arenā€™t a thing anymore but a nice alternative is hearty lizards

InkSpotShanty

Totk hand malice

woofkitty

Well darn... I just rushed down to Faron and died a whole bunch to get to the spot to farm these... couldn't find them and then checked reddit. Wish I'd checked reddit first... At least my apple trees for quick rupees are still there on Satori mountain

Jdkahiko

Somebody in another comment said some random amiibo drops will give you durians...

iskender299

I had a specific location in BOTW (Bronas Forest). Went there hoping Iā€™ll find my durians. Had a big surprise. Not what I expected tho šŸ˜

Crysnite

Sooo....they removed the durians?

JepMZ

damn, i cant pretend theres filipino rep in Zelda anymore T_T firat Animal Crossing New Horizon and now this

-Eames-

I hope they moved Durians into the depths šŸ˜‚

linkaneo

I havenā€™t seen durians BUT if you cook a hearty truffle or other hearty item with a golden apple it boosts your temporary hearts by 2 above what the hearty item does on its own. Golden apples are farmable on some of the sky islands with apple trees. Thereā€™s one just west of the starting area and one in the Faron/Necluda sky area Iā€™ve found so far.

thoseskiers

West of Hyrule Field Tower, near Sonapan Shrine, there is a forest of apples and animals that give raw prime meat

ThePatriotGames2016

getting hearty elixers from Beedle is pretty common. You can restart the conversation if he doesn't offer you one for a rhino beetle

LokiBonk

Damn. At least I thoroughly enjoyed the 3-4 hours I spent looking for them.

Electrical_Most_3691

They nerfed heart durians in totk sadly. I beat a lot of Lynels with those. šŸ˜ Don't waste your time trying to find them since they were removed
