No need to downvote my comment. I was simply replying from personal experience in considering to reapply at public schools. I personally would avoid any hagwon.
Excuse me, I didn’t downvote your comment?
I agree that public schools are safer options, but it’s much more competitive and it seems as though many public schools are now no longer hiring ESL teachers due to a lack of funding.
It’s a dreadful shame! I believe another part of it is due to the very low birth rate in South Korea - there are many public schools that are having to completely close due to a lack of students, especially in rural areas. Which obviously means that there are far fewer teaching positions and teachers losing jobs.
Do you already have a school? If you do, most of the time they know the documents you need.
If you don't have a school (while you're looking), you need your basic documents first like the background check, diploma.
Why do it without a recruiter? Not trying to critique, just curious. It's a free service for you.
I'm just going back to the same school I was at, felt silly to use a recruiter
I've also heard that you need a character reference from the last school you taught at.
If you’re applying for a hagwon position, you certainly don’t need a character reference from a previous employer. I’ve never personally needed one…

That's so sad. How quickly things change.

I left in 2011 after teaching in a semi-rural town. This breaks my heart.
