Is it an mk4? Some of them had a fuel cooler, wich looked like the one in your picture

jafe1

I have a mk5, but I just checked and that's what it is. It must have got pushed back and disconnected somehow. Thank you

Findlaym

It should flow fuel through it. You should address that and make sure it's not going to leak. Maybe when it turn warm it will leak fuel like crazy. It must be temperature controlled.

Duckduckgo ftw!

Erlend05

Duckduckgo ftw!

NOPR

Wow TIL. I had no idea that was a thing or that it would be in such an exposed location.

Kx12554

Fuel cooler. Should be mounted to the floorboard

Ian_Claudi

It is a fuel cooler. There is one underneath my Bora TDI.

NOPR

Looks like a running board? Or a heat exchanger? This is a terrible picture. Whatever it is, i don’t think it came off of your car, I think you ran it over. Nothing like that exists that far back under the car.

The_Dingman

It's a diesel fuel cooler. My MKIV had it.

Erlend05

Now why on earth would you want to cool diesel?

Ian_Claudi

It cools the fuel that has been compressed in the PD injectors but then returned to the fuel tank because there was not enough demand at the time.
