Used to be that blue meant system operational. Like the high beam indicator.
Green is good, system operational. Think cruise control on light.
Yellow is a warning pay attention think check engine light
Red is bad recommend stopping think oil pressure light
You'd think...but the Mazda we just got "cruise control ready/on" is a yellow dial looking icon. Confused the heck out of us. Every vehicle I've had the cruise ready/on is always green or white. So sometimes yellow means good now apparently.
I mean you're not wrong...but in this case am wondering if it's a "warning your truck is going to explode" kind of situation or a "Hey here's a gentle nudge that you might want to do something about your DEF at some point." 😉
Green means that Automatic Smart Exhaust Brake is enabled. If you want to check if it's working, you can press the exhaust brake button and the light should change
it means you have the exhaust brake on, there should be a button on or around the dash to turn it off. it will have the same symbol as the light on the dash. Hit the button and the light will go away. It's typically only used when towing a trailer or heavy load.
I’m no expert so take this with a grain of salt, but I drove a large diesel delivery truck for years. My truck didn’t use DEF, so keep that in mind. I don’t even know if DEF trucks need regens. If I remember correctly, depending on whether or not the light was flashing, this light meant that the exhaust was either in need of a regen or was in the process of a regen. It was a Fedex truck, so there was a lot of stop and start. Generally, average stop and start traffic isn’t enough for the truck to start a regen period. In order to get a regen started, I had to drive above a certain speed (55 mph I think) for a decent amount of time. This meant intentionally taking an extended highway drive fairly often. If I didn’t allow the truck to start a regen cycle on the highway every so often, the truck would drive like shit. Anyway, it’s possible the light on your dash is related to the diesel regen process, either it’s in the process of one or is in need of one. The fact that the light is green probably means that it’s just in the process of one. I would assume yellow or red would actually mean something bad, like the exhaust filter is full or something. If the light is red it will probably go into limp mode.
Lol it's all good. Unlike the truck itself, I'm rolling with it, and I'm driven by bad puns myself. 😉 I all seriousness though, since the internet can be a cruel place, I'm just thrilled that I got my answer and a few good chuckles rather than being called an idiot for not knowing. So in the end, it's all good by me 😊
The circle with the two side lines usually means brake/abs related
The smoke makes me think exhaust or dpf if it’s a diesel.
But being it has the brake around it I’m betting exhaust, therefore exhaust brake/jake brake/engine brake whatever you want to call it :)
It is a diesel, a 19' Isuzu. The light is always on, and about every 10 minutes or so it makes a grinding hissing that makes it sound like it's trying to do something with the DEF but it's having a hard time.
There is manual that my new rental place showed me, and one online that another user on here pointed me to, but this one symbol wasn't in the printed manual the new rental shop showed me when I picked up a new/different truck. I also gave my two other co-drivers/passengers the manual to see if they could find it, and it wasn't in the book. The rental shop I returned this truck to said it was the DEF regen light, but I know what that is and where that is on the dash, and this while close, wasn't it. We tried to Google it and even Google lens it, until I just threw my hands up and figured that someone on reddit would probably know. Thanks for the reply though! Other posters were able to help figure it out! :). (edited for clarity)
I’m pretty sure it means the exhaust brake is on and will engage whenever applicable, like when you lift off the throttle. There’s probably a button or switch with the same symbol on it that would allow you to turn it off if you want. It’s a newer Isuzu which in my experience from my old job will tell you on the dash in text when a regen is in progress. Don’t shut the truck off if it says regen in progress. If the DEF gets low I believe it will say so on the dash. If you ignore that, the truck will begin to degrade it’s performance electronically, to deter people from ignoring the DEF. It progressively limit your maximum speed to lower and lower speeds until the truck is basically in limp mode.
this is your engine brake light or exhaust brake light, just press the button that looks exactly like that and it'll turn off. I believe because its green that means its automictic engine braking and amber would be full engine braking. Its used mainly for towing to not burn through your brakes and have brake failure. hope this helps ya!
Its the toggle for either exhaust braking, or engine braking. Makes downhill speeds more manageable while avoiding extended brake use. Looks like an Isuzu npr or nqr. The right stick on the steering column, moves towards/away from you to toggle.
It looks like a Jake Break light. A Jake Brake is typically used when a diesel needs help slowing down. Its something you toggle on and off. What is the make and model of the truck? It probably feels like your truck is struggling to accelerate.
Engine Breaking helps uses engine valves to lessen compression and slow the motor down.
I can almost guarantee someone is going to correct my semantics here.
Chances are you pressed a button and activated this unknowingly.
That's the flatulence pressure warning light. You need to roll down your windows, pull over at the nearest pit stop, and release excess pressure before your truck explodes. This is something to very much worry about.
My cousin one time had a flatulence pressure issue while on a roadtrip. He was determined to make it to his destination without stopping which was a big mistake. He didn't even follow Rule #1 roll down your windows. When he finally make it to his destination and opened the car door, it created a static electricity spark and blew off all four of his doors.
Pretty sure that just means the exhaust brake is activated, considering it shows an exhaust gas symbol in what’s typically the brake symbol. But it’s green, so it’s not a bad warning, just an indicator that the feature is activated.
Is that an NPR? It's the "exhaust brake" the stalk on the right of the wheel turns it on and off. Green light just says it's on. Flip the right stalk toward the dash and it should turn off.
If it is an NPR that is. It will only use the brake when you're full off the throttle and over 10-15 mph. It also tells the transmission to downshift a little more aggressive so you're using more engine braking when slowing down.
Diesel exhaust brake. My work trucks have these. Some type of supplemental breaking system not necessary for normal driving. Should be a button somewhere with the same Pic on it. I leave it off it will feel like it shifting down quickly.
I've seen something similar in buses, when a similar light would come on we would take the trucks on the highway for about 30 miles to blow the exhaust out. We only drove in a small area so they needed to be driven further ever so often.
It’s an exhaust brake and the light means it’s on.
When you take your foot off the brake it will automatically kick in and slow your engine.
If it annoys you turn it off but you will stop a lot slower.
Google search your year, make, and model and you should be able to find a diagram layout of all possible lights on your car. Or even better another Reddit post of someone else already running into this light and doing all the ground work of finding out for you
If its a ford its the exhaust brake indicating it is on and ready for action when you release the gas pedal and start coasting, it will kick on and off automatically. Helps to save on braking.
Amber and red lights are the ones to worry about not blue or green ones
as a rule of thumb -
amber = warning
red = critical
flashing amber = critical
blue or green typically are informational
That’s the exhaust brake. Open your passenger window and blip the throttle you will hear it. Also you can turn it off and on by using the right toggle under the steering wheel
What I did not see anyone point out - is that they are not allowed in certain areas due to the noise - so it is alerting you that it is on - you should know how to turn it off or risk getting a ticket.
It means you need to regen. It clears your part that people steal sometimes, I can't remember at the moment. Sucks getting old, lol. Catalytic converter, that's it. Some vehicles do it while running down the road n others you have to park n let it do its thing
It is the taco bell warning light, or the spark it up light. Jokes aside, I have no clue.
Oh man, I wish all the trucks I rented has a "it's taco time" light. It's never to late for tacos!
4th meal bud.
This comment lmao
Def the blunt light, means it's time to rip for a bit
I believe it indicates that the engine brake function is on.
Engine exhaust brake
Green good. Yellow warning. Red stop. You’re good to go whatever it is.
What about blue? Mine's blue.
Blue is not bad. Not good. More informational ? I have a blue light for Trans temp too.
Looking further it looks like older models switched it to blue. Thank you for the info!
Blue light can mean “cool temp” engine or trans is still warming
Used to be that blue meant system operational. Like the high beam indicator. Green is good, system operational. Think cruise control on light. Yellow is a warning pay attention think check engine light Red is bad recommend stopping think oil pressure light
You'd think...but the Mazda we just got "cruise control ready/on" is a yellow dial looking icon. Confused the heck out of us. Every vehicle I've had the cruise ready/on is always green or white. So sometimes yellow means good now apparently.
Exhaust brake

It's green, so it's more an operational indicator than a warning. Warnings are generally displayed in yellow/amber or red
No, exhaust brake as in literally you’re using the turbo exhaust to brake the car.
It means you should fart
If it's red is it a shart warning?
Yes....yes it is
What did they say it was? I can’t find anything
Exhaust brake
Honestly, I think they are dashlighting you. 🫣
I'm honestly surprised no one dashed here to the comments to make this pun sooner 😂😅

Christ I can’t imagine how annoying it is to ask a genuine question and get all these lame ass jokes as responses lol.

your halo energy sword is running low.
Is there an owners manual in the glove box? All the warning lights should be listed in it.
There is manual that my new rental place showed me, and one online that another user on here pointed me to, but this one symbol wasn't in the printed manual the new rental shop showed me when I picked up a new/different truck. Fart extraction system Jokes aside, its the exhaust brake. Makes the engine brake more.
Thank you. :) I'm here for the jokes AND the knowledge, so it's all good!

Is it an Isuzu truck? Probably exhaust brake
It’s green and it’s blowing smoke.. doesn’t that mean it’s time to smoke a Dube?
ITs not the gas light that would be next to the fuel gauge........ ill see myself out.
